As far as the reason why, I usually just scout these threads so I can get some daily exercise in, looking for ideas (I mostly do fusions here to practice some principal design elements of source materials)
So when I see something i sorta enjoy, I don't really care too much who made the request - if that makes any sense?
I know spammers show up quite often in these threads, and that's probably part of why a lot of people are turned away from these threads. But it's not that bad, easy to weed the ones I'm not personally interested in, but I'm sure some other artist would rather do those instead.
