Sketching a cover for my comic

>Alt Q: What makes you the happiest when making/showing your comic?
When people show interest on the plot or if they tell me im getting better at the art.

Attached: D2crRyMXcAAHtXK.jpg large.jpg (1536x2048, 1.81M)

aaaand comic here
tapas.io/episode/1272284

today like 80% of my favorite series updated, nice.
i created a smackjeeves for my comic but i dont understand how to edit the website much.

Attached: 42.png (886x1272, 811K)

updates every saturday

want to get over the prologue fast

no, it's worse
you are cool
I love that you can still see the hand in an abstract way. nice job.

Are screen tablets worth the expensive price, then just a cheaper $50 surface tablet? I have a cheap wacom tablet, but would like to know if some artists like the screen or why they prefer one to the other

a comic with dirt bikes? okay, i'll check that out

you're not gonna draw any better, but you are able to get lines exactly right during those times when, on a non-screen tablet, the angle just won't cooperate with you.. I think. I've never used one, always wanted one. It's difficult to justify spending 4 figures on something so prone to breaking. I wonder if you could find a big corrupt art college and buy their old ones off of them after they upgrade. they siphon money off of their students enough to do that regularly, right?

Oh lordy loo it's even better than I thought. It's an IMAGINATION comic, but instead of terrible, it's actually good. And cute. You get a bookmark.
Actually I vaguely remember you posting this before.

The inks are in on the next Tom N Artie Tales page. This'll be up next friday but another hiatus will set in for 3 weeks. Reason is because the next Tales comic, the artist on that did the entire thing in one go (instead of page by page how I normally do) and needs the money for it. So I gotta get that sorted out. At least it means I won't have to worry about payment for the next 13-page comic.

Attached: PAGE 5 INK.jpg (687x1044, 195K)

Something similar ruins the few pseudo newspaper comics I read. they actually let you pay them money to apparently give you the comics with 'fewer clicks' which suggests to me they disable that.. devious.

she's cute

it's shit but hey it's good to atleast try rather than give up immediately, right?
tips and critque very much appreciated if you could give some

>shit
hardly. more like ritz crackers. be proud that you're one step up from saltines, and keep working at it. This is some solidly mildly pleasant humor, and I'll be interested in seeing where it goes. Just like that 'comics and sillies' comic with all the clouds. If you keep posting in here, I'll keep reading it
No real critique beyond the obvious. besides it sounds like this is just practice?

updaed impish today, we get see some old faces again!

not good. eu seem intent on destroying internet freedoms. america barely seems to recognise webcomics exist.

As seen in page 11

>Alt Q: What makes you the happiest when making/showing your comic?

Being able to put a story I've had in my head finally drawn out, and being able to tell it through a comic. If the comic can entertain readers, that's extra amazing!

>What are your predictions for the future of webcomics as a whole?
well, as time goes by, i think digital comics might slowly enter into the market soon with phones being popular and all.
>Alt Q: What makes you the happiest when making/showing your comic?
people actually notice it exist...

Attached: travis ref.png (2072x1536, 1.37M)

Did you draw that or are you posting it ironically?

Aw man I forgot to answer the OP question again.

>What makes you the happiest when making/showing your comic
Probably when it's a page I'm really proud of that gets drawn the feedback on it notes how good the dialogue was or setup. Near the end of 'Office Job' on Tales I was surprised at how many people didn't notice that the guy's phone fell out of his pocket before the end of the comic.

And another pic from that Kaiju project. Big Mama shows a scrapbook of her exploits to her children when they were younger. I've also decided to name the daughter Pestunia (thanks to a friend who suggested that). Next me and the artist will finally get around to designing their deceased dad.

werepires are always good. i feel like you could have picked a better codename than 'vampkid' though. No 17 year old wants to be called a kid.

it's so hard to ensure people notice little things without drawing a big giant arrow and ruining the subtlety
I like leaving really small, unnoticeable things or notes, then calling attention to it later so the reader has to go back and check.

Saw this on the site, couldn't believe it was happening for real. I will smuggle porn to you guys as long as I'm able.

How'd we get from being chased by security (and nose-scratching) bots to here? Did I miss a page?

yeah , i dont post every page here, dont want to spam.
you can read it in order here tapas.io/series/Bhb

I have been! That was the last page, wasn't it?
well that's why.
I can't speak for the whole thread, forge, but I think you can post every page here.

Oh my god I love this, whats it called and where can I find more

Yeah in the second panel of this page, people didn't notice the phone flying out the guy's pocket. A buddy of mine said it was just due to all the action going on that it's an easy miss.

Attached: PAGE 6.png (940x1430, 1.28M)

>What are your predictions for the future of webcomics as a whole?

I'm surprised there hasn't been anything "big" since Homestuck. I expect them to be more like Homestuck like how Ava's Demon and Prequel have taken ques of being chock full of animations or basically interactive web cartoons at this point

Attached: 1470844521521.jpg (800x1075, 181K)

>I think you can post every page here.
The only time I can recall anyone genuinly complaining about posting too many pages was when they were posting whole chapters at a time. A page posted when you get it done or ready to be posted shouldn't be an issue if you are allowing conversation to take place.

reposing the new page. First page on the new tablet. Really happy with it.

I've had it for a week, but from what I can tell yes. $400 for a wacom equivalent tablet with what seems like better drivers, and it came with extra accessories.

My only problem with it right now is that, when drawing it feels like you're scratching the screen. Even when doing next to no pressing, it even makes a pretty bad noise sometimes. but from what I can tell It's just how the tablet is.

Attached: 17.png (800x1102, 222K)

Oh, I never updated the preview version without the white line mistakes. ignore that fellas.

So uuh guys i did this instead of drawing comics.

i didn't work on my comics for a while now since i felt like my art was shit.
I decided to work on that problem, and I think i'm starting to get results.
Anatomy's a bitch man, but i'm finally starting to understand it?

how did i do?

Attached: marieflexophelie.jpg (1065x1232, 515K)

I mean, I'm looking right at it and I don't see that happening.

oh, the third panel, not the second. Uh, you made it glow, so that helps.
Also if you're going to post only one of the two pages, surely it's part 1 that should get priority. Then like "wanna know what happens next? go to my web-a-site"

making huge strides and those lines are gorgeous. How big a canvas did you start with here? I'm finding even on a gigantic 3000 px picture I still can't really do tiny subtle lines like that

i usually start on a 8000x6000 canvas to doodle stuff then crop when i have something that i like.
To be honest this particular sketch was like double the size of the picture you have here so like 2000 px?
I try to use line variation at the best of my ability and try to put less messy lines. I guess line confidence is a must?

You can find the webcomic here.

tapas.io/series/Merchant--Pike

Unfortunately, the pic that I posted earlier is for the next chapter of Merchant & Pike, so the full thing won't be out until late June or early July.

Finished this page!

Aww, but then it loses its weird Protomen vibe

Dial it down man

Amazing. My computer definitely couldn't handle a canvas that big. The shading is really nice too.

>she's not interested! well, time to trick her
i identify with saudra holy shit

Ah crap your right, thanks user.

Well, I guess theres a character for everyone.

I drew it.

Ellen (hellfyre) gave him that name as a joke. He insists he be called vampman due to his egotistical he can be and hates being a called a child.

I'm so freaking jelly. I can't draw muscles.for shit.

That's not much better, honestly.
even Vladlad is a better name, and that's if you're going intentionally silly. But it's not like this ruins the comic for me, I'll still read the adventures of vampkid and his mighty chin.

I made that

I couldn't think of a better name honestly.

It was bound to happen eventually. They'll still dress cool during fights, don't worry.

Also just realized I typed "Chaper" instead of Chapter in the cover art like a fucking retard.

Also2, someone from Newgrounds made some fanart of the blade-rifle in Madness Combat style (I made a bunch of MC fanart in the past so a bunch of followers know me from that). I guess it's the first fanart I've ever gotten.

Attached: bezymannyj.png (941x150, 43K)

Lol. Maybe I could make it a running joke about him insisting to be called "vladlad" despite it being freaking silly as heck .

>Count Acker
>The Were-Vampyr

a serieslong running gag about different attempts at vampire codenames would be great
>bossferatu

Reminds me of a Mauser SR-93

Attached: Mauser SR-93.jpg (800x285, 23K)

>weapon fanart
living the dream

fuck you and suck my penis

What does the thing under the barrel do? It looks like it isn't really connected to much

Just there for one to grip it while holding the rifle. You wouldn't want to hold a rifle by it's barrel without any protection when it fires would you?

Wouldn't it do a better job stabilizing the gun if it at least had a more solid connection? I would expect a couple rings or something
I guess fully exposing the barrel would assist with it staying cool, but I've never seen a gun like this before.

That kind of looks like the original blocky design I used.

The redesign is based off a SOCOM 16 M1A.

Attached: concept.png (1479x890, 100K)

Glad to hear! I really respect the hard work you're putting in to make your comic and improve your artwork. It definitely shows.

Maybe the EDM Arms Windrunner might be something you're more looking for? I'm no massive gun expert (I do love looking through IMFDB) but I'd usually ask my gun owning friends on details like that. It may just be design choice.

I saw this before and had questions. Wouldn't the bayonet being that size be more of a hindrance? Why not make it more of a removable thing? It's your design and everything, I don't got issue with that so it's more your choice. I just look at it and could see a user easily cutting themselves with that.

Attached: EDM Arms Windrunner.jpg (865x338, 25K)

Very cool. I guess what I was thinking about is like how
the underbarrel post here has a ring connecting it to the barrel. That seems more stable, and it's only a few inches long.
also I assume that huge long blade is for using your rifle as a straight-up polearm

Going for 4 pages this week. Almost halfway done. Here's the first, with the second following. I think I can put 4 out a week if I do almost nothing else in my free time. It doesn't seem as bad as I imagined, honestly. Very fulfilling to see a passion project like this materialize.

Attached: CI_Ch1_Pg55.png (940x1216, 657K)

This is a god awful idea but this king dude needs to grow a pair anyways.

And the draft of the next page.

100% correct on both counts.

Do steadlater pencils or using different pencils with different hardness levels improve someones art?

>What are your predictions for the future of webcomics as a whole?
It become over saturated like most content on the internet.

>Alt Q: What makes you the happiest when making/showing your comic?
When someone reads a speech bubble exactly as it sounds in your head.

Speaking of which, I thought of fun /hyw/ activities we will never do.

>Read a page of another user comic outloud and post the recording.
>Draw another user´s character.
>lewds
>redraw a page of another comic in your style

How do I know if I have an art style?

we've done some of those.
i'd enjoy reading some panels

Post your art and we'll tell you

lol, you mean Staedtler?
I wouldn't say that a pencils hardness/softness would improve someone's art, but it can make certain parts easier for the artist to work with. Which of course means the art has more potential to improve if the artist isn't fighting with their tools as much.
Learning techniques and basic fundamentals like anatomy and lineweight would do a lot more for the quality of art than changing tools.

Is there something you need help with? If you post art your here there are people in this thread who enjoy giving crit to help others out. You should give it a shot, if you're up to it.

>mom bought 20 soft pencils when i asked for art supplies
>burn through half a pencil filling a page with sketches when a hard pencil would last me weeks
i prefer the generic HB pencil that is cheap enough to buy in bulk but isn't low quality garbage

Attached: g0jed2ze8jp01.jpg (957x621, 55K)

Post your cutest oc user

softer pencil (6b and up) erases easier. its like the equivalent of drawing a circle and ctrl+z'ing five times til you get what you want.

You tend to flux back and forth between weird proportional issues where your girls sometimes just look like they're not big, they just have really small heads. Girl in background has that vibe, girl in foreground looks good.

>Alt Q: What makes you the happiest when making/showing your comic?
People predicting what's going to happen next. Whether they guess right is irrelevant, I just really love seeing other peoples' ideas, and checking if my foreshadowing is too vague or just vague enough.

I love that, though it's hard knowing there's no right response

Critique? I'm using a mechanical pencil and its eraser. I'm having a hard time erasing the gesture and construction lines while keeping the finished parts intact. It always erases parts of the finished drawing so I have to draw over that piece again.

Attached: faces study.jpg (1167x900, 318K)

Thoughts?

Attached: Janey WiP 3.jpg (1167x900, 382K)

that's what inking is for. you do the construction lines lightly, and darker lines over them. then you ignore the construction lines, ink, and erase everything but the ink.

the bottom seven look great, the first four don't. You don't quite have Timm style down.
This isn't ready yet, and they don't look like they belong in the same show. very different styles. You're getting there though.
Since you were talking about the construction lines, care to show us your product?

actually more connectors on a barrel to the stock reduces the accuracy of the gun.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free-floating_barrel

Yeah, I didn't spend much time copying Shane Gline's work compared to the others. I guess I got better the more I did, even if it's one the same page.
What do you mean by product?

My brain selected the word "process"
I don't know how product appeared. I'm sorry.
weird! I'd think stability would help

I first do the line of action, gesture, I block stuff in, and then do the fine details. I don't really know how to show that. My end goal is animation so I'm trying to focus on linework and gesture the most.
On this one, I just used a light box to do draw the characters exactly the same. What do you mean about different styles?

>I don't really know how to show that.
I'd like you to show us the construction lines on their own, there might be mistakes being done there
>lightbox
that's another good way to not show your construction lines, so no need for erasing.
>different styles
like, different tv shows

Here's the most recent I could find that I didn't try to finish or erase lines

Attached: gesture construction.jpg (1432x2046, 1.27M)

According to a thread here, hi-budget cartoons are dead and live action will replace non-Comedy SoL shit so we're fucking doomed. It's too early for me to be depressed how most of us will burn out at some point since only a few will recoup our investments in these projects.

Movies are okay, I don't like live action TV as much. I don't want my comic to die but life is slowly catching up to me. I needed that valve release.

absolutely top taste
but also reveals what I was afraid of: even with multiple runs, your circles aren't circles. not even close. Proper geometry is something you want to work out in the sketch phase. Keep adding and adding guide lines until you get there. and don't be afraid to draw in hemisphere lines so that eyes, nostrils, etc line up properly and everything looks 3d

Yeah life's fucking shit. The only return I ever expected on my investment was the satisfaction of opposing that. 'rage at the dying of the light' and all that. We have about as much of a chance as a spider vs someone with a shoe, but at least we know we caused physical harm to their psyche by scaring them so badly.

Thankyou. I'll also see what I can do about keeping the style of my main characters consistent and changing them.

im thinking about writing a webcomic starring public domain super heroes, mainly Captain Battle and/or Black Terror and/or Stardust
id like an artist/collaborator if anyones interested

Attached: CaptainBattle1.jpg (633x723, 288K)

Yeah I see major potential here, and I'm looking forward to a fun cartoon-lookin' webcomic.

what are the odds another person in here is doing the same thing with the same characters and also collaborating with artists.

unless someone does what bahkshi suggested and pump out a film independently, have it be a huge hit, so the studios dont give up.

mane idk id mainly want an artist

I'm having trouble writing the script, but I got some good ideas for it. Actually writing it with little to no dialogue and keeping them in character. Also just procrastinating. I laid out some groundwork with themes and some lore, but haven't written anything in stone yet. The themes should be easy to write about with two magic girls.
>creativity should be cultivated and praised not ignored for easy money and fame
>don't backstab your friends

Might as well drop this page here for now

Attached: ch4 pg35.png (900x1268, 579K)

good themes!

What’s that have to do with comics?

different media have always been somewhat connected. When things are dire in one area, people tend to lose interest in others as well, rather than going and clinging to them for a substitute, since it would never be the same anyway. we want synergy.

Last one for the night

Attached: file.png (1452x448, 779K)

>really want people to give me some opinions on a story i'm drafting
>tell a friend that also likes writing about it
>first time i describe the story to him he tells me that he likes it
>second time he asks me about what kind of project is it even and that i need to work more on the lore
>third time he tells me that i'm throwing too much shit at him and he doesn't understand anything i'm saying
>mfw
Who else has gone through this?

Attached: just.jpg (840x565, 94K)

post story

What makes me happy is just making it and putting my work out there. Having people get to meet and know my characters always feels good, and the steady betterment through the process of making the comic too.

Attached: pg4.png (937x1069, 434K)

Okay, okay.
In the meantime, here, a broad strokes summary.

>the story is about an amnesiac cyborg mercenary girl trying to survive on a post-war world where veterans who haven't yet swore an alliance to any governing faction are shoved to the side and treated like criminals
>first arc is her training to overhaul her fighting skills into being non-lethal after being spared by one of the strongest guys in the world. It ends after a concerted effort by various mercenary missions successfully kill him
>in the second arc she goes searching for clues to her past, the man who created her, and lawfully avenging the man who killed her best mercenary friend; other characters that she used to know from the time before losing her memory join her. It ends after a hero aligned with the most important city state is killed trying to help her and she gives herself in to the authorities
>in the third arc she goes to jail and gets a slow meditative arc bonding with other prisoners while a group of heroes from the same city state are sent on a mission to recover parts of the corpse of the strong guy killed in the first arc. It ends after the guy that created the MC successfully takes power of the major city state through purely political means and snubs the retrieval mission out of the city
>in the fourth arc, the MC is bailed out of jail and thrown into the role of a priestess by her creator while he starts a plan to essentially change the world's culture by any means necessary to bring about peace. It ends after his plans are foiled by an ancient hero and the city state falls into disarray
>in the fifth and final arc, the undead king of all beings discarded and killed throughout the world's history comes back to seek revenge
>I still have no idea how to end it all though

>Kiwi Day Z
i can decide how i would feel about that.

On hiatus, kinda. I am in similar boat as I notice quality going down and I wanted to say work kick my ass, but mainly just because I started playing video games again.I have been making more personal drawings a quite a bit of lewd drawings. I found an old unfinished sketch book and been adding to it and redrawing stuff from it. Redrawing old stuff is honestly one of my favorite activity. Its weird that I am working my way back into "having fun" part of drawing time and time again.

>Alt Q: What makes you the happiest when making/showing your comic?
That people look forward to it, or they tell me that the main characters are cute.

First one of the day

Yeah, it's not a conventional weapon by realism standards. I mainly just focused on it looking cool, with some realism sprinkled over it. In fact, out of all the guns I've designed, I'd say this one is the most "realistic". Rest of the weapons just get weirder and a bit non-sensical, but that's what makes them cool in my opinion.

it can be used as either a sword or a polearm. It's supposed to be very long so it can be used on a motorcycle too, either for slashing or for stabbing.

What about indie games?

dis is looking bretty good, my friend. I also really like the background in the first page.

these are awesome, my dude. keep it up

I'm afraid it'd be useless for stabbing since the blade doesn't extend past the tip of the barrel. you'd wanna look at something more akin to gunblades for that.

Thought I would share this! The monsters I am working on for an upcoming Monster Artbook/Encyclopedia are the same ones that appear in my webcomic, Color Seekers, as video game characters!

Attached: ColorSeekersFt._Chromamon.png (1261x713, 726K)

Makes me wonder whats worse, a frail king who cannot take any choice or a strong king who takes no shit but only has unconventional/bad ideas.

Getting ready to start your own pokemon game I see.

I've just begun work with some programmers, so hopefully someday it could be a game! :)

Are you using Unity to make it?
Any details?

Yo boys. Just wanted to answer this.
>Nyamo's art is the only good thing about it.
I'd like to clarify. Nyamo's art IS Otto's writing. Otto describes in details everything i must draw. I just do what i'm told.
Otto's script isn't only worldbuilding. It is a meticulous and intricate building of imagery, with tons of references and neat ideas. He's just too humble to point that out, hehehe! Nyamo is merely a servant.

>What are your predictions for the future of webcomics as a whole?
This is the most interesting medium right now. It will grow more mature and interesting (i hope).
>What makes you the happiest when making/showing your comic?
Making or showing comics doesn't make me happy.

Weak men cannot be noble.

You ask a good question, and I don't know the answer quite yet, but my starting supposition is that a weak, frail man cannot be noble.

This is the comic about robots finding Christ, right?

Yeah what said is a good point that it wouldn't be all that great if you wanted to stab someone. Hey it's your work and if you want it like that then no big, the design just makes one ask alot of questions.

When I designed Tom's rifle the 70M with one of my artists (Roger). We were going for a design that could be distinct for him but also wouldn't be too hard for other artists to draw. At first I wanted to go for a more AR-15 type but he talked me into taking some inspiration from Warhammer and Unreal then cooked up this.

Attached: TOM NEW RIFLE.png (1132x1706, 1.32M)

I wanna draw lewds of the red head from squire for hire, its been one of my favourite webcomics that shows up on here every once and awhile. Would something like that be okay? The creator said the red haired instructor was an adult a couple threads back

Wow, holy shit. I've never seen someone improve as fast as you.

also nice trips.

ive gotten the first 2 but ive had to ask people outside the thread for guest pages
id love to do fanart or guest pages for others but no one would be happy with what id give them because im dogshit at drawing

*middle 2

I want to say he specifically said that one would be okay. They all look fine to me. As long as they're enjoying themselves.

>matching quads
WHOA!
I'm always okay with fanart no matter how shitty. Guest pages are different, I find it's best to ask, or wait for them to be going on vacation and asking for guest strips.

Alrighty then.

I made the tip pointier. Also added some rings around the barrel just so the blade doesn't look like it's hardpasted to it. What do you think?

Attached: redesign2.png (800x600, 5K)

This is the latest page of my comic (magicshop.smackjeeves.com/).

I'm not completely happy with the way the colors came out. I tend to sort of add gradients until I can't stand it, then call it finished. Any tips?

Attached: 1 - Page One.png (612x792, 713K)

Very unique. Now it's semi-okay for puncturing through mail. Unfortunately, it lacks the kind of heft found on something like a bec de corbin, which would be required to actually give you penetrating power. This puppy would require all the stab power to come from the user, with no aid from gravity or inertia. Even a sharpened barrel-tip is still so much thicker than a speartip, and I think your average nerd is going to be sort of instinctually aware of that. On top of that, if it ever successfully got in a stab, the barrel would be fouled and clogged by the dude's skin and muscle
Like I realize super realism isn't that important here, but there's a reason bayonets stick out from the barrel. It gives you several inches of clearance.
And actually, come to think of it, even for slashing, you'd still have the thing getting stuck in whatever you cut into, once you cut more than the width of the blade. Physics is really hard on abrupt changes.

Love this comic. Binged it the last time you posted. I was wondering how you did the beautiful colors in this dang thing. It's really just improvised? Works for me.
I don't have any problem with the colors, but now that you have me looking at it with my eyes, I'm seeing 2.5 things that don't really work
A) the bathroom mirror is repeated 3 times, but the background color changes kind of dramatically, and not even 'in order'
2) she's exactly the same amount of lit as she approaches the camera after stepping away from the mirror. shouldn't she get darker as she steps closer to the camera maybe?
B and a half) that same amount of lighting is present on her body once again in front of the kitchen window, and she's viewed at the same angle in front of something similar in shape to the mirror and sink, which does weird things to the eye, as if the scene didn't really change. Since she's having light beaming at her, maybe in the kitchen she should have more contrast. brighter lit-side and darker unlit-side?
I'm super new to any kind of lighting and shading stuff myself

Wonderful little robot girl!

She's a sweet treasure.

I'll try not being too long-winded.
Also, have in mind that it's the continuation of the story I made up while I played with my toys back when I was young so there's plenty of backtracking and backstory, and some of it is weird and needs further explanation so ask away; or just tell me the concept is cringe.

>the setting is a post-war world where the factions are trying to live in harmony or recoup their losses
>veterans are maligned unless they swear loyalty to alliance led by the winning faction
>after being humiliated by his former master, one of the strongest warriors (let's call him ninja) becomes obsessed with earning a warrior's death and forms a guerrilla under the pretense of protecting unaligned war veterans
>the protagonist (jetgirl) is forcibly inducted into this guerrilla after being kidnapped and having her memory wiped by one of ninja's associates (bad skelly)
>she is paired with a guy (batbot) that believed in the guerrilla's purported purpose but came to the realization that it was all about ninja's ego
>he convinces jetgirl to escape together and she accepts to go through with it
>bad skelly suspects them so he splits them up and sends them on different missions with two really loyal mooks to keep an eye on them
>batbot is sent to hijack a secret mission dedicated to steal and unearth ancient power ups for one of the allied factions while jetgirl is sent to track down and kill bad skelly's rival (good skelly)

This is where the story actually starts
>jetgirl has successfully tracked down good skelly to an abandoned mansion in the mountains and gets ready to kill him
>on the way to good skelly's lair, she is pestered by a homeless girl that claims to be a starving singer
>jetgirl just gives her some food so she goes away and continues
>it all goes to shit after good skelly is only woken up rather than killed after being stabbed in his sleep
cont.

cont.
>good skelly is mad strong and just ragdolls her around like it's nothing
>as good skelly is about to kill her, the homeless girl from before comes to ask good skelly about all the ruckus
>he apologizes for the inconvenient and is asked by the homeless girl to spare jetgirl since she thinks she is a good girl
>he thinks about it and reluctantly accepts on the condition that he will train her to not kill unless absolutely necessary
>bad skelly's mook runs away after being spotted by good skelly
>from then on, jetgirl stays to train as other mercenaries are then sent after her and good skelly
>she feels indebted to the homeless girl but still becomes good friends with her
>during that time, one of the mercs gives her the news of the death of her partner which motivates her to train harder to go out on good skelly's approval to search for his killer
>though that motivation is put into question after one of the few fighters strong enough to put up a fight with good skelly wipes the floor with her and goes on to nearly defeating him
>the next day, four different missions to kill both of them coincide after good skelly's last fight and manage to defeat him in a pyrrhic victory
>the arc ends when jetgirl then decides to go to look for answers for everything that happened to her since she now can't stay under good skelly's wing anymore

PLEASE ACTUALLY COMMENT BECAUSE THESE ARE FUCKING HARD TO REDACT
I'm only posting the first arc for now.

I love using stories you came up with while playing. That's the more pure form of creativity.

Thanks, man.
I can always list the toylines I were using back then, though the reinterpretation I made while playing have more weight to their characterization than the official lore of their respective franchises.

lest we forget, colorful horses was written that way, with the personalities in powerpuffgirlsguy's wife's imagination when she was a wee lass, rather than the intended ones.

Being totally honest, if it wasn't for demon donkeys I wouldn't have gone back to buying toys.

The irony is I have always been good at seeing through transparently terrible toy-marketing campaigns, whether the toys are lousy and the cartoon is good or vice-versa or both. and as time has gone on, toy-selling cartoons have gotten better while toy quality has tanked at least in terms of fun and creativity.

>girl

It's not like she has two X robosomes. Robots are just whatever they're programmed to be.

I haven't been watching many toy-related cartoons, or anything for that matter, lately but I always hear good things about them.

What do you think of my wall, though?
Is there anything good on it?

I made a cover for the second half of my comic, A Story Of Fire. Tell me what you think anons. I already have a lot of self-critique. Mainly I think I fucked up the protagonist which is like the worst character I could have fucked up.

Attached: astoryoffirecoverb.png (969x1387, 952K)

Thank you so so much! The god of gets has blessed you with quads.

I have to try that one since I heard good things about it. Right now im catching up with Dr Goodlove, somehow I never got to read it. Till now.

It's great to see other people using the public domain super heroes! I use them myself in my webcomic and text stories. What are your ideas for them? I had the Black Terror mass produce his formula and create an army of Black Terrors for Uncle Sam and Captain Battle become an Allied weapons designer.

If you're looking for artists to collaborate with, I suggest asking here or in the discord. Tapas' forums also has artists and writers looking collaboration and commissions so check there as well.

I think it maybe ends up a bit too busy looking. A lot of the characters have pretty similar looking color palettes, and the flat colors aren't helping, particularly on the top. The composition is maybe a little haphazard as well.

Your line art and actual art are certainly getting noticeably better, though. If anything, I think Rau actually stand out pretty well, since you've got her in light colored clothing, with the Priest guy in dark clothing behind her kind of sets her forward more.

Page 13 is in dev, meanwhile, Ame-lee got a really hard mission for the half genie hero!

Attached: Amegetsagenie.png (1024x768, 262K)

Thank you, its good to know. It might be busy-looking indeed since I wanted to put all the relevant characters in there. I actually like the composition though, I mean, in general design, I agree there is too much going on maybe.

My complaints with Rau are
-her anatomy is kinda fucked up imo. Legs and shoulders.
-should have given her an actual expression and not just a blank face.

I think so, but it's a particularly wallish wall of text. I couldn't penetrate very far into it.

It's rare that, when I describe what makes a webcomic good, it's a list of events that occurred in the story. I want a good story, but I won't be saying "and it's so great how this happens and then later this happens"

Couldn't be any harder than all the DLC game modes where you have to wrestle with unfamiliar new controls and there's no way to get more hearts
I like the way this girl thinks.

That was my problem from the beginning.
It seems like I'm just bad at putting a straight forward plot in a few words so I end up making these walls instead.

Is he about to give her a wedgie?

That's okay, let that be your guide, but make each comic one comic at a time. People can digest that.
it's like when you go to the food store, you don't buy just a pinch of garlic, you buy a whole jug of it.

He is a recurring Kaiju for a super sentai parody i want to do.
His name is Drak and he is mostly harmless aside from property damage.

weird, I read this a little differently at first

theres going to be a lesbian couple in my comic

I guess that's no stranger than them having blueberries.

adjusting proportion at the sketch phase.
I wonder, do you just mentally make corrections for shapes so they look right in your head? That wouldn't surprise me.

>girl fundoshi
Boner-inducing.

It's weird, right? those are just for men, but somehow women totally rock them.

Before I commit to comic, I wanna practice first but I'm out of ideas for short comics. You guys got any suggestions?

When the fuck are you gonna make it Coldfusion? You're almost old enough for senior citizen benefits, at this rate you'll retire before you even get started.

uh... what do you mean exactly?

Girls look great in men clothes in general.

practice with a comic

I really like it! Of course, I'm a sucker for illustrations with lots of characters on them.

My only real critique on this is that the dark blue/purple background doesn't contrast well with the top left character. Like, if I squint, his hair and green outfit totally blend with the background. I wonder if aside from adjusting colors, if adding a glow around that moon would help. I think it would also make the piece extra dynamic. Overall, it's a pretty good composition!

If you have a main large comic that you want to eventually work on, try thinking of short background or side stories you could do with those characters and universe. Stuff that you feel like you can't focus on in the main story due to plot relevance, tone difference, randomness, etc.

i just realized prequel was started 8 years ago
and it still hasnt ended or even got to a point where a satisfying ending could be written within a reasonable time
what are some steps i can take to avoid such a catastrophic fate?

Attached: 1535440533068.gif (498x278, 2.72M)

and we look a lot better in theirs, with significant modification.

Like, all the shapes. The titties not being round for example. It's all like close enough, using the same eye that makes us see faces in everything abstract

The white guy with black hair and yellow horns too, I think. his hair blends in a bit with the background, and he seems to have lines on his hair but you can't see them due to contrast. they should be simpler and starker.

I guess avoid a situation where your comic's patreon becomes your fulltime job and you spend all your time drawing reward pictures
also don't replace a comic that became popular as a series of simple, heavily-recycled one-panel updates with a bunch of massive interactive flash games

in my day, we didn't make webcomics to 'make it'
unless 'it' was 'a webcomic'
everything on the internet was free and non-profit, which is why it was so open, and could be anything you wanted.

Thank you very much! Im gonna try adding a glow around the moon. Im not sure how to change the background there since I want it to be a night sky yet the character dresses in dark clothes. But well, this is all trying and trying and trying and learning.

Same for . The lines arent particulary important though, its just that for dark-haired characters I fill the hair with scribbles before scanning. I dont dislike how it end ups looking, but yeah, could be... tidier? I dont know the word.

Attached: eh.png (236x288, 90K)

Are you telling me you don't have dreams of threadfuls of fans happily discussing your comic? Of a cartoon adaptation, or selling the books to millions?

>tfw you dream of the day some guy like aleczandxr makes a video essay about one of your characters

yes, yes but that's not realistic, and no

>that's not realistic
RIP kiwi day, you never even lived

Ok. I absolutely didn't expect that spoiler image. Legitimately shocked me hahaha!

As for the night sky, you could perhaps try a different brush so that it isn't as solid and saturated as the characters. Would you mind if I tried something with your image on my computer and see if I can help you with that by showing you what I mean?

By all means, Ill be glad!

I have the Kage reveal pic saved on my cellphone even.

I'd be happy if just someone here talked about it

I don't get it

he said no on opposite day, implying that he actually wanted to go

Seriously?! Haha that's amazing! I'm honored!

Ok, here's a quick edit I did to try and show you what I mean. (I'm not great at explaining this so my apologies in advance) I'm not sure what program you use for coloring, but I did this in Manga Studio with default watercolor brushes. These are different than what you used to color and ink your characters with, so the background and characters don't blend and clash quite as much. I tried to use the transparency of the brush to create the dark night sky colors, while going lighter around the upper characters, to add a bit more contrast....
I probably could have done better, but yolo....

I'm sorry, I wish I could explain it better....

I really would like opinions on Lance's dialogue, I can't tell if my foreshadowing is hamhanded or not. What's it look like he's implying?

Attached: ch5pg26.png (618x800, 628K)

that's not funny

I assume he's talking about himself, though it seems a little out of character he'd be okay calling some kid 'little boy' if he sees so much of himself in the kid. I wanna say in the previous page (or previous version of this dialogue?) he used a lot more ambiguous phrasing about him not being the first, so this is better.

I think it's supposed to be cute.

And here's the sketch for the next page. Matt unlocking his magic was the really obvious conclusion to the chapter since they started the day off by talking about it. I'm glad to be done with the proper fight scenes and ready to indulge in some over-the-top wizard screaming.

Attached: ch5pg27sketchs.png (773x1000, 996K)

I like how his repeated shut-ups go from dumb right around to badass again

It wasn't supposed to be

He is talking about himself, but he's also implying that there were other kids in between. But I don't want to spew that out too clearly because it's not going to come up again for a while. On the previous page (attached) he talks about 'all these replacement sons' but Tony is also in the scene so a reader could interpret it as referring to both boys present. And then when the full history comes out much, much later I want it to be something that readers can go back and realize.

Attached: ch5pg25.png (618x800, 674K)

No no, thank you very much, I think I understand what you are showing me. The way the background doesnt blend makes the characters stand out better, plus varying the tones, and the fire is really cool too.. I was using photoshop and the gradient tool for my background, I have to admit that its the first time I use it so I gave it quite a few tries and the program crashed.

I might be at the point where I need to download some other program since everyone is telling me to get ClipStudio or Manga Studio.

As always, im grateful to you.

It's really obvious, user.

I don't think it's so obvious it beats you over the head. This works.

wait, I think that user means he DOES get it
it's opposite day!

You were definitely on the right track with a gradient! But yeah, varying the tones will help a lot.

There's also nothing wrong with working in Photoshop, and there are TONS of great brushes you can download for it, too, if you haven't already. You can find a lot just searching for them online. I guarantee you'll find some you like and they're really gonna add even more to your artwork, I'm sure! Experimenting that way has helped me a lot, too.

>but Tony is also in the scene so a reader could interpret it as referring to both boys present
That's actually what I had assumed when I read it, you're playing your hand very well.

Haha i love him!

In my head he just sounds like a little kid having a weirdly focused tantrum.

Nice, thank you!
Lance is actually ignoring the hell out of Tony (and Mistaire) because he's clearly some kind of random wizard monster that has nothing to do with Pauline's past. Lance and Matt are archetypal Robin type sidekicks and he recognizes that role and purpose. And Matt is wearing Lance's father's jet boots. The boots don't work for Lance [pg 25 panel 6: "So what's with the boots? Do they work now?"] and this is actually going to be a very large source of resentment for him.

Attached: fuckjack.png (500x628, 237K)

you're now aware that you are my fan

Attached: 1553499110227.jpg (750x975, 217K)

I'm picturing Lance tinkering with the boots, going over the blueprints and notes again and again, reviewing any footage of his father in action and seeing that the boots worked, disassembling and reassembling them over and over until he can do it half asleep and in the dark, like a soldier field stripping his weapon, trying to figure out why he can't make the damn things work, even to the point of making his own set from scratch that still won't work. Maybe he even uses what he knows to make a lesser version of his own design that does.
And then this replacement who isn't even old enough to shave is wearing them and they work beautifully.

Messing around with a new pixel brush, not really knowing what I'm doing, but had fun making this anyway! Dangerous dogs seem to be common in this story....

Attached: PixelBally_SpacePack.jpg (780x1020, 1.56M)

That's actually way better than the real version where I ignore Lance for several chapters to focus on some aliens instead, and his squad scuttles in afterwards to reverse engineer the tech they leave behind. But Dad's dead and Mom only sort of knows how the tech works (it actually doesn't, you just need to be magic), he had no chance. Pauline never used tech to fight crime, and the skills she passed on to Lance are all combat-based. His main thing is being an absolute beast in a hand-to-hand fight, and collecting soldiers that compliment his weak points.

What’s your comic?

>Alt Q: What makes you the happiest when making/showing your comic?
when I'm making it? I absolutely love doing linework for some reason. hate coloring though.
when I'm showing it? if I can make at least one person smile or chuckle, then I'm happy and consider that week's comic a success

>What makes you the happiest when making/showing your comic?

There you go, user
Your week has been made twice

Well. if he's smart enough to reverse engineer alien magi-tech, he should be smart enough to try tinkering with his father's boots.
It's your story, I'm just making observations.

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR IM A TURKEY BRRRRRR

What the FUCK

How many textures are in your texture folder? I tried making some but only 1 looked decent enough to use. I need to get around to making more and I think watercolour will look better than the acrylic I tried using the first time.

I gotta say, your process for character design seems really amazing.

Your consistency between your own style and 'hard ass anime men' not so much.

Harmonise your colours to make it less busy. If you think of the image as having foreground background middle ground tiers, one tier can be dark and less saturated, and the ones in front can have more colours to pop. Etc. Colours don't need to be exactly as your swatches if the value is right. A shadow on white can be purple, a grey can be blue. I might fiddle with the pics colours in Photoshop if I have time to show what I mean.

i kept reading thread and found somebody already did an edit. i wont worry about doing one.

i wish i knew more about the culture on tapas, because this isnt unusual at all if all the comics in fresh are anything to go by.
ive seen comics with awesome art at sub 30. ive seen comics with awesome art in the hundreds. i cant figure out what it is that people want, theres obviously an audience for stuff besides the BL.
or is there? maybe some comics are just advertising outside of tapas and not relying on the inbuilt readers?

There we go.Not super satisfied with this one, next page I'm going to really work on some more dynamic angles. Getting tired of gradient backgrounds and chest-high camera angles.

>What makes you the happiest when making/showing your comic?

Honestly just having people talk about it. Speculating future events, asking for more details about the world, telling me which character they like the best, etc. Their questions help me hash out more about each character and flesh out the story more. Plus my grandpa is into the comic and every time he talks about it makes me want to get the next page out even faster.

this comic is still ruined from making her a girl
what was you thinking

I was thinking I never *made* her a girl. She was always a girl from initial concept. I like tomboys, so sue me.

Attached: 1418302081624.jpg (329x399, 44K)

I'll keep that in mind for next time. Thanks for reading!

I have about ten big pictures of rock textures that I got from google images. I like to mix them up with each other too.

So a powerful fictional character is now loose in the real world. This is fine. All will be ok.

>What makes you the happiest when making/showing your comic?
Getting feedback on the designs and story, nothing makes my day brighter than someone coming around and saying "Hey, I like that, hope to see more form you". It's a great feeling.

i found a secret to cutting the length of time it takes to draw a page WAY down to like
20%
(used to take me several hours)
now i can do it in about 1 hour with this method

It's one of his minions who does the engineering, he's the one who applies the potential into building an army. I love hearing observations though, it's so good!

Well, I draw men a certain way. I am guessing they stand out too much for you? Although I wonder what "hard ass anime men" would look like if they were more consistent with my style, as you say.

Thanks! I think.

Attached: color_pencil_experiment_2019MAR25.jpg (1701x1200, 420K)

Thank for the offer though, thats helpful. In all honesty, I havent bothered to study coloring since the general consensus was that I need to improve my art first, so I just color by feeling.

Big SEGA feelings there.

Is that nyamo???

Where?

Aww, poor anxious girls. Hopefully Morgan will get them back on track.

Hate to nitpick but is Betty on her knees in Panel 8?

Also I feel like I kinda look like Robin, though I've yet to be mistaken for a boy, haha.

Attached: Screen Shot 2019-03-26 at 10.52.57 AM.png (751x307, 142K)

Hrm, good point. I can easily fix that by making Robin bigger.

We should run character popularity polls for our comics. That would be fun.

Like, in all comics or in each individual comic?

mother fucker i love radgirl amia. make more you dumb bitch

Attached: 1526417368280.jpg (200x200, 7K)

Sketching some flesh kernel fanart. Im wondering whether to just try to imitate the art style or to draw a less-cute, more-realistic Anai(:)s in my own style.

Gotta make the hands bigger too.

So he finally used the staff like it should be used, good for best boy.

Im in to vote.

Awesome! Sorry for being a nitpicking Nelly! Looking forward to the exam!

I wanna get into capeshit my only problem is finding ways to be more original. the only thing making a bit more interesting is the main characters and it's main focal genre being urban fantasy. no superpowered fights and characters actually die for good (well, only supporting characters or side character, i can't bring myself to kill main characters).

each individual comic.

I mean we could do a comic/protag popularity contest but that might cause drama.

Thank you:)) the imagination parts are very heavy in the prologue, but it will be used thru the whole comic.

There's actually no programming involved in these robots, only in their physical bodies for processing sensations and all.

ironman numbers?

So agree.

i got i trouble for making political webcomics for my campus newspaper and i'm getting expelled from my college

should i kill myself?

So glad smash bros got rid of the fucking paper fan. now they just have to get rid of the smoke bomb.

I always feel that way with fanart.

Good. I've read some manga that start out with imagination or dreams really important, but then that tapers off. I want it to be used throughout!
souls have programming tooo... riiight?

sue 'em

Still training myself before trying to rework the comic. I've got to the point my characters start to look like actual characters.

Attached: comparison.jpg (1613x1102, 409K)

Major improvements in musculature. Your faces sure do vary!

Can they even do that? Webcomics are freedom of speech.

i'm working to improve that. but then again i feel like i'm getting a better grasp at proportions.

They can remove it from the campus newspaper if they run the publication, but they sure as fuck can't expel you for it.

make her have less muscle

why? I want this character to be a heavy brawler

What did you write?

thanks~!

Tiny terrors are entering into and bonding with Mr.Bun- (spoiler, he's a terror)

It looks off somehow

Yeah!! Still new to it, so I'm going to keep practicing! :)

Oh wow! I didn't even realize they removed it until you mentioned it! No great loss, haha.

Hiseo is the true champ.
Also nice work on that fanart!

that's a hell of a spoiler!

>can't expel you for it.
Wrong, if you make a comic going NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER WHITE POWER then you'd be expelled by the end of the week.

you'd be a pariah but they can't expel you for writing it in a comic. at most they might suspend the paper's editor for allowing it

>they can't
Lmao according to what? Students have been expelled for way less, such as posting racist messages on social media.

no ones going to care if they expel some sperg that called everyone nigger

According to basic law? Like you have an understanding with a place you're paying money to, they can only get rid of you if you're a major disruption or your grades get too low

Ha, sorry- it'll be revealed soon!

There's an even bigger spoiler about what Terrors really are...

Is that what you did?

awesome. can't wait.

Anyone who knows vector art, how do I make a continuous line that doesn't automatically curve every point? Like so I can draw a curve followed by a straight line followed by another curve, etc?

>to basic law
Wrong again. Just because you paid money to an institution doesn't mean you can do whatever you want. If nobody reads the paper or makes a fuss, you'll slide by. But once the media catches wind and organizations like NAACP get involved, it's over. The reputation of the school is worth more than whatever settlement one sperg can try to wring out of them at court.

The reputation of the school should hopefully involve not getting expelled for doing drawings, no matter what jesse jackson said
which you're assuming, all he said was 'a political comic'

I'm not assuming, I'm addressing your assumption that universities can't expel you for words or drawings by giving you a very common example with a clear history of action taken against it. Even you are aware that you're wrong at this point, you're backing up more than a garbage truck.

I have a suspicion I'm talking to coldfusion, this "just drawings" argument is a favorite of lolicons. Drawings/words carry meaning behind it, there's no college in any developed nation that would not expel you if you drew black people with giant lips and googly eyes raping a white woman with the tagline "WHITE GENOCIDE, NIGGERS MUST BE STOPPED". Imagine trying to slide with "it's just a drawing"

For every node in your line, there are two draggable squares. Those determine how curved your line segments are.
For two adjacent nodes, take the draggable squares that correspond to the line segment and move them on top of the node.
That way the line segment will be straight.

Oh, or cheating. They can expel you for that.

here's gorgon unmasked!

did she always have that underbelly coloration?
nobody deserves anything, everything is a gift.

wip art for some other webcomic...i think this one will be simpler i guess. also cute girls.

Attached: yuki-chan.png (1061x700, 417K)

this, no one deserves anything. We just try to get things and some fuckers achieve them by doing nothing while others put on effort their whole lives and never accomplish much. That said, by being smart and working, SOMETHING has to be achieved.

Yeah, she does, just look at the chapter 15.

At least that's the last time I remember having her show her belly.

Thanks user, means a lot that you like and enjoy it.

how does popularity eat time
get the digital stuff

My monster girl comic takes place in a realstic setting so there should be boys and girls but all ive designed were girls so far

Attached: 1546121263717.jpg (1028x732, 340K)

well there's two things you can do:
enjoy the fun of drawing male things
or make an excuse like an all girls school

>how does popularity eat time
I deal with people, partnerships, and people wanted to talk to me. When I want my "Freetime" I want to plan this.
I am planning to buy SAI and use get a new Wacom tablet soon, and I thinking of naming the webcomic, "Westwood"

ah I see
well westwood isn't very original but it is catchy

SAI is free though

>well westwood isn't very original but it is catchy
Can't really come up with big names, kinda want to keep things more chill, mostly all the Calart shows I see kinda have the same tone and shit.

Oh, well shit, I'll just save up to buy a tablet then

simple's good, it's just maybe best to pick something nobody's ever used. is there an in-universe reason it's called that?

>Have the skills
Post work

>Want make comic web
>Have talent, lack skill
>Must grind fundamelons
>Hate grinding fundamelons
>Can't afford tablet rock
>Draw with stick instead
>Scared stick drawings won't be unga enough because can't afford ink

Attached: grug.jpg (800x450, 41K)

wtf does "talent" supposed to mean?
>the drive to create something
>passion of a subject

talent is when you're good at something without practicing

>have multiple premises and potential stories in mind
>don't know how to pick one over the other
>story is non-linear, can pick any in any order
>tried to pick two best pitches
>still don't know which to use

To be fair, she called him a piece of shit in the last page. To be fairer, he just kicked a child in the head and is trying to rob a bank. To be fairest, she raised him, so surely her parenting can be blamed for his criminal life choices. I'm trying to maintain a carousel of blame where you're never quite sure who's the bigger problem.

>webcomics
>newspaper
fake!

what if it's an e-newspaper

Who would put electronics in a newspaper? You just throw them out after a day.

This probably sounded clever and funny in your head, I’m sure.

if there's someone lurking that has an understanding of the comic industry, how do you get into it?
do you have to make a whole comic and put it out onto the web, and gain a following before you can get picked up by a publisher? what goes into that? or do you just go to any publisher once you have a finished comic and pay them to do a run?

It depends entirely on where you’re trying to get into.

Can't place my finger on it either

Need to see if this will respond to the third post in the thread (did in a Warosu thread), /hyw/'s seen weirder bumps

>tried to pick two best pitches
Couldn't you toss a coin? Hell, write down every idea you have, roll a dice.

>Couldn't you toss a coin? Hell, write down every idea you have, roll a dice.
I guess I could

>This probably sounded clever and funny in your head, I’m sure.
What your principal said to you before you were expelled

What manga?

>SAI is free though
Only the cracks. Actual legit license to use it post-31-day-trial is about $50.
There are free alternatives to it, like krita and medibang which offer more features like a basic text tool.

>Wacom tablet
Do some research before you buy Wacom. That brand used to be the only decent drawing tablet on the market a few years back, but now they've got decent competition and now Wacom recommendations are more habit than legit advice.
Check out other brands like Huion/monoprice (and others) which offer comparable tablets for a fraction of the price.

>That brand used to be the only decent drawing tablet on the market a few years back, but now they've got decent competition and now Wacom recommendations are more habit than legit advice.

Id even push this further and say don't even consider wacom. years of having no competition led to them getting sloppy, and not caring about the customer. it's overpriced garbage, with shit drivers. there's many other cheaper/better alternatives.

>getting sloppy, and not caring about the customer.
There was some drama a while back where it turned out that the new textures on the newest model of wacom tablets was devouring the pen nibs at a terrifying rate, and wacom at the time saw no issue with that. If I remember correctly, they also decided to pair it up with a price increase of their propriety style nibs which were unavailable from any other manufacturer for that extra fuck-you flavor.
Yeah, look for other brands first.

guys, my new wacom tablet just failed to start. Is this normal?

Its weird but over the past few years I've seen a resurgence in decent webcomics. It might just have been what I was reading at the time but before the twenty teens there seemed to be more bad than good. As well as good series going bad and bad series getting worse. Now I don't think I've found a truly bad one in quite a while. Hell even furrys are starting to get better at it.

an artist I watch on youtube has been reviewing xp-pen things. they seem decent, though no eraser end on the stylus.

>Now I don't think I've found a truly bad one in quite a while.
Nah, that's not weird. It might be weird if no comic you ever read has ever gone on hiatus/dropped or permanently deleted.

My web comic is continuing.
Thanks for asking.

Please comment if you want to see the comic continued. I want to see how many people are interested in reading it.
And to see if I should continue it, or wrap things up in a few pages, and leave the characters in limbo forever.

inb4 stonetoss

Since I set up my game controller to use CSP shortcuts I don't even use my pen's eraser anymore. Not even a set back, to be quite honest.

Common, not normal.
Restart computer, restart drivers, update drivers, update computer, unplug and re-plug tablet, change usb slots...
If one of those doesn't fix it then I have no idea what the problem is.

Mysterious Girlfriend X comes to mind

I read it the last time you posted it!

Yo, I'd like to recommend that instead of using comic sans, you should use a font like Laffayette Comic Pro, or even Letteromatic.

It'd make the comic look a lot more professional.

Nice work BTW.

The 2000's were a weird time for webcomics, being so new and all, but there are without a doubt some pretty bad comics out there still. I wouldn't be surprised if the reason you don't see so many bad ones lately is because you aren't looking at the "newest" section, or the places you go to upped their analytics game to only show you ones with good traffic.

Name a single non-wacom tablet that has >1080p resolution.
Beyond that I've seen no other tablet that supports tilt, rotation and has no parallax.

the tablet maps to your screen area, resolution's irrelevant. You can have a 6000 pixel image, make a sweeping stroke, and the pixels will be fine. the art program handles that, not the tablet. Computer processor is important too, and which program you use.

Are tilt and rotation really useful? I feel like those might get in the way. What's parallax in this context?

What is he going to do

I'm talking about tablets with a screen.
If you don't want a screen, yeah, sure, even some cheap chinese knockoff will do, but otherwise the screen quality is pretty important and I've seen no other company that comes in even close.
Tilt is mostly a gimmick, I feel. I've never really cared for pencil shading and that stuff, so maybe if you're interested in emulating that it helps? Never really used it though.
Rotation I really like though. You know how some brushes have a direction? In the past I found those pretty tedious to use when working digitally normally, because you either have to live with the fact that the brush is always pointing in the same direction or you have to constantly manually adjust it. They can look pretty nice though and with rotation it just feels very natural to use. It's like rotating a pencil so that it gets evenly used, it's not really something you have to focus on.
And even just for a hard round brush its way more visually stimulating when you reduce its width, which also gives it a bit more of a painterly look.
If you have access to an iPad with an apple pencil, give it a spin! It's pretty fun.

Parallax refers to the visual effect that happens because there's a small space inbetween the pen and the display due to the glass. If you look at it from a bad angle (which happens pretty easily on the larger displays when you're not drawing in the center), there's a disconnect between where you're actually drawing and where the pen touches.

>I'm talking about tablets with a screen.
Nobody else is. That explains the parallax thing, that sounds like a major pain
The rotation does sound pretty useful though.

Been trying to get a story off the ground for years but I can't come up with a basic plot synopsis so I'm not motivated to draw without any sense of direction for my characters. Every time I try something new with the plot I stumble upon a cartoon or comic that's already done my idea. I don't know anymore. I hate this shit. My characters are here but they don't have a world or story to live in. Fuck everything.

Attached: 1553548049216.gif (360x152, 1.02M)

Those plots may have been done before, many times, but they haven't been done Your way. Only you can tell your story.

I'm gonna post a formal request once I posted my comic here and maybe made a tripcode and so on, but just to test the waters:

Has anyone here paid someone to make their website?
I read conflicting infos between the pastebin and some other webcomic guides, and I know literally nothing about making a site and I'm gonna need help.

making a site just isn't that hard. Especially given that we're in a world where people settle for terrible mobile sites

I just can't decide. Regardless of outside influence. Let me ask what sounds more appealing and get a census on which sounds better here.
A kid who's a loner in a small town with an undead sidekick/sibling type figure
Is the gist. Problem is
>kid is magic and lives a double life trying to hide their magical life from the town or just found a magic tome that they didn't think would actually revive the dead/create magic and they get thrust into things
>is the undead friend a zombie or a ghost/ghoul
>what adventures would they go on
They've been written since 2014 but I can never get an idea of what to do with them outside of the dynamics between the two.

Don't worry, that type of thing has been done in several dozen ways, from Shaman King to Golan the Insatiable, so you can surely find one that's your own
What if it's a skellyman? What if he wears clothes to hide that and go about his business? What about a lady skellyman?
In terms of adventures, do you really need help with that? If you don't already have a bunch of fun ideas, then it's surprising you want to do this as a comic... but maybe just ask what you would do with your very own undead pal

But I don't know how to start.

I felt mildly confident after reading these sort of guides:
pauple.com/make-webcomic-wordpress/
conceptartempire.com/make-a-webcomic-site/
but they use wordpress.

In the pastebin they give hosting sites, but then how the fuck do you code the site?

So like are there some trustworthy webcomic site builders that people here would have used?

hosting sites almost always provide some help making a basic template, and some of them actually force one on you.
a wysiwyg html editor would also be your friend, so all you have to do is click and place things where you want them. The one i use costs money but there must be free ones

The adventures bit only gets me because of the plot. Is there an underworld in my universe? Are magi hiding in plain sight? Are my duo solving a problem they caused? The worldbuilding has me stuck at go. I guess I should be asking how to get my foot in the door and just start.

Are those going to come up in the story? If so, what would serve the story best? You can answer that as you go, if you want. You can have someone ask, if it's in-character for them, and you can have a lack of anyone to answer, if you'd rather not explain it yet.

Okay so out of the 3 hosting sites on the pastebin which one has the best template options for comics?

Take the most bungled idea you want to do and this time do it proper.
Be the Luminosity to [show]'s Twilight.

BTW what do you have nailed down so far? I like trying to come up with stories from scattered facts

Attached: Shrug man.jpg (384x313, 83K)

>kid who has only one good friend because they're a spaz.
>lives with some relative because single parent is out on the road selling shit or something
>relative is or isn't magic
>protag may be training to be a witch/wizard
>or they just find an occult book in relative's collection and being a bored teen decide to pretend a ritual
>accidentally summons a spirit/revives a corpse in whatever abadoned shack they ran off to to study/play
>this becomes their buddy, some washed up wannabe cool guy that partied too hard one night or something
>kid tries to stuggle with fitting in/growing up while also dealing with magical hijinks
>undead friend tries to be a mentor and also learn as much about the other side/magic as he can while being there for the kid

The BIG problem is the nitty gritty details and that's what's stopping me. Mainly whether or not they are magi or the sidekick is a corpse or a spirit with the option to be tangible. From there I'm thinking they'll episodically deal with random monsters and creeps buuut then I don't know why others would be tracking them down specifically either. So that's another snag.

>is the undead friend a zombie or a ghost/ghoul
I say ghoul, but I like ghouls. Something physical that's very good at hiding?
Something based off SCP 372, a very fast monster that likes to hide in people's blind spots?

>what adventures would they go on
From the description so far it doesn't sound like plot hooks is the big problem compared to there just being two characters- and one can't or won't interact with the rest of the cast, because they're a monster. I'd say have some people know about the 2nd character.
... That said;
>trying to break a non-malicious 'curse' on an area, like a ghost train or a fairy ring, because it's very obviously supernatural
>a mystic can perceive the undead character and is making their life miserable- trying to talk in a crowded space, assuming they're hostile and warding MC's house, etc etc
>any number of concepts stolen from the World of Darkness RPGs
projects.inklesspen.com/fatal-and-friends/
projects.inklesspen.com/fatal-and-friends/kurieg/beast-the-primordial/
(Big collection of tabletop game reviews, WoD titles always read like [Noun]:the [Concept]. Game lines are usually about monster politics in a scummy, run down world vaguely reminiscent of the 80s in general and Dark City in particular. Unless it's Hunter: The Vigil, in which case you're normal humans who found out about the supernatural world and really want to murder everything in it (probably deserved, fuck vampires). Reviews mainly focus on gameplay mechanics but do discuss backgrounds, Disadvantages and adventure hooks. No one follow that link unless you have a lot of free time, it's fucking massive.)
Particular shout out to Beast: The Primordial. I think it was either an attempt to crowbar in all the monsters that would be too unique for a gameline, or one where you don't have to play a tortured antihero and can just be evil. Owing to incompetence though you always play as a Mary Sue abuser- every Beast in that book is worth punching

cephalobump

>accidentally summons a spirit/revives a corpse in whatever abadoned shack they ran off to to study/play
>this becomes their buddy, some washed up wannabe cool guy that partied too hard one night or something
Okay apropos of nothing I thought this was going to be something lame like Monster under the Bed. An entire webcomic about Norm the Genie sounds amazing. Fuck yes.

>that partied too hard one night or something
Also that's a fair explanation for why this summoning went weird- he was drunk and got shanghaied/Bound.

>relative is or isn't magic
>protag may be training to be a witch/wizard
In general I'd say have the hero not be a magic user (not based on much, feel like audience has a better idea of how mundane solutions work/*solving* a problem with magic feels vaguely deus ex machina) but if you can think of somewhere to go with it the MC apprenticing to their uncle or just helping him carve healing crystals and shit sounds kinda fun

>buuut then I don't know why others would be tracking them down specifically either.
Well that's easy enough- the grimoire he used was the Necronomicon, and... it called for help/people want to take it and destroy it/people want to take it and put it on Megaupload/it upsets the Balance every time it's used.
Norm the Ghast is very bad at making friends around his power level and has picked up a number of enemies and odd curses over the centuries.
MC caught the attention of psychotic Stephen King bullies and can't use overt magic but subtle magic just makes the problem worse. A neighbor is determined to prove that 'oh, mundanes will ignore anything that doesn't fit their worldview' cliche wrong and is investigating every suspicious noise that comes from the uncle's house. Aforementioned neighbor has a machine set up to detect something that MC 2 isn't, but it gets set off when a [whatever] visits and he joins the story to complicate the problem.

It's fetishbait on top of waifubait on top of mass appeal. Some day you will understand the wisdom of these words.
...Also simple digital art with effects thrown on top always makes me think of furry comics,

What I'm hearing is "Eew hets should die"

These are great episode ideas!
And this is really solid, thank you. I was leaning heavily on non magic kid who accidentally uses a tome because I feel like they'd rely on the spirit friend more if they couldbbarely defend themselves from monsters and magi themselves. If the MC was magic the spirit would be a jobber. And the idea of the Uncle being magic but the kid isn't sounds interesting too. And the Kami type character. Basically almost everything you typed is sounding really good to me. I appreciate the feedback.

>It's fetishbait on top of waifubait on top of mass appeal.
How are any of these negatives? Just seems like a case of sour grapes to me desu

Hope this style looks the same.

Happy to help!
Second MC's personality probably doesn't work with the SCP power set but I personally say no ghosts because friendly ghosts are a very powerful ability when you have a known enemy- at any given point that character could be spying on anyone they know is trying to start shit. A ninja would be powerful too, but they could be stopped by doors if someone's looking at it, and they can't move through ceilings.

Attached: 1530266971070.jpg (400x325, 32K)

Also they're all the same thing. The mass appeal is cute waifu, and the only fetish I can see is "being a cute girl that a boy has secret access to"
I mean that is the oldest fantasy ever written. Usually it's the other way around actually.

oh man, ghost ninja. there needs to be more ghost ninja.

That and the commute, people forget about the commute!
And time spent trying, and failing, to sleep due to work stress.

my commute is only about 5 minutes, so that's always a uniform thing, and some people work from home.
losing sleep from work stress is the real deal. i can't sleep fully anymore because every morning even on days I don't work i wake up to check the time, interrupting my cycles.

Here are some plot ideas for the first two stories. I think about 12 pages for each should be enough. Anyone have any tips on determining page length, or thoughts about the plot?

Thanks. I wanted to set apart the twins so people could tell them apart from a glance.

I really like the Priest's expression in the second panel. I find it oddly cute haha

Alright new page. Not gonna lie, I didnt experiment at all with this one. Next one will be.

People make sincere expressions when taken off guard I guess. As a side note he is SUPPOSED to be attractive but I dont think I nailed that.

Really? Im glad then. I think the quality of panels 3 and 4 is terrible scan-wise. All grainy. But if others see it okay then its okay.

forgot to post the ACTUAL page, dammit

is coldfusion unbanned from discord yet? He's changed, isn't it time for new starts? You know the reason he hasn't drawn any new comics is because he doesn't have the creative environment available on your discord.

latest xp-pen. review i was watching showed off the tilt. and the cursor was directly under the pen, reviewer even pointed out if it looked off it was the camera angle. really good srgb percentage too. my cintiq has shit colours and makes everything look too red.

>the creative environment available on your discord.
creative perhaps. but not productive.

almost everyone is productive on the discord wtf

/ic/ joke i guess.

wow, not bad. you can get a 21.5 inch for 500 bucks. I paid 180 for my not-even-a-screen tablet at a comparable size, and that was on sale.

Well here's a list specifically of actual online stores that are made using Wordpress and various store-oriented themes:
torquemag.io/2017/02/wordpress-ecommerce-examples/

There are also Wordpress themes geared towards image galleries, or videos, or whatever other types of website you might want to make. The software at the core of every theme is still a blog, but the core concept of a blog is just "make post -> arrange posts by date -> categorize posts by tag" and what a 'post' is can be just about anything you can create with HTML.

For webcomics that use Wordpress w/ the Comicpress theme, Miss Melee and Salvadora are Wordpress. Raccoon Girl too, I believe.

>>not compatible with windows XP
Sounds like you need an OS upgrade.

Do I need to polish this page more or is it ready to post?

Tilt is moderately common, but I don't know off any other tablet that supports rotation.
>reviewer even pointed out if it looked off it was the camera angle
but that _is_ parallax! That's like saying the resolution is perfect as long as you just sit far away enough.
>really good srgb percentage too. my cintiq has shit colours and makes everything look too red.
I'm sorry, but unless you're comparing really old cintiqs with newer models (which I'd hardly call a fair comparison) this is just nonsense. If you correctly calibrate it and don't have a faulty one, cintiqs will just absolutely trounce anything but a standalone display.

xp-pen and all the others aren't bad especially if you're on a budget, but there is nothing that comes even close to wacom in regards to screen quality.

I don't do artwork, just scriptwriting and toning/layout/setting fonts/etc.

Having said that, I'm getting a bit better at making panels look more professional. The first two attempts were awful, and I'm finally starting to feel a bit more confident.

Is this your first time posting? I don't recall seeing this comic before.

Quick critique- Most of your dialogue looks good, the only things you might want to change are 1) the CIA explanation gets lost in the toned background due to the similar darkness, adding a small 1-2 pixel white outline might make it more readable and 2) the "I'm here for my interview" bubble looks a bit jagged and stands out (and not in a good way). Adding anti-aliasing and thinning the line a bit to match the square dialogue balloons will go a long way.

>that _is_ parallax
he started shooting it from a side angle to talk about other things. you dont draw from the side.
>really old cintiqs
and why would this matter? they were still just as expensive. why should a dell monitor from the same time have better ootb colour reproduction than something costing 5 times as much? proves that just spending money on something that costs more wont get you a perfect device.
i dont really have an egg in this race, my cintiq does its job still. anybody looking for a screen tablet should thoroughly research the latest models and make their decision. wacom would at least hold its value if one decides to sell it later.

we have new comics?

>Is this your first time posting? I don't recall seeing this comic before.
I lurk occasionally and am on a couple Discords, haven't posted on Yea Forums in a while.

Good recommendations. I'll definitely factor these in.

This actually looks really good.

>and why would this matter?
are you actually being for real right now? Technology improves with time and gets cheaper to produce. A decade ago wacom's screens were a lot worse.
>why should a dell monitor from the same time have better ootb colour reproduction than something costing 5 times as much?
Because they have different specifications? You can't just jam in a digitizer into a display and call it done.
>proves that just spending money on something that costs more wont get you a perfect device
well, obviously. I can't think of a single piece of hardware that doesn't deprecate quickly.
Paying a lot of money will not get you a perfect device, but it will get you the best available device today.
I'm not saying that Wacom is the be-all and end-all, but if you're looking for a premium screen tablet, they just straight up don't have any competition at the moment.

looks pretty nice, name of the comic? what is it about?

I've only gotten 7 pages of my comic done, keep that in mind.
My problem is that it seems like no one is willing to touch my comic. When I show it to people over discord and they respond they seem like they're weirded out by it but I'm worried that I'm misconstruing it and that they're just saying the comic is bad and I'm delusional. This is of course if they respond at all.
There are very few times where people say anything at all though and I'm getting worried.

The working title right now is "Don't Pee Your Pants in Front of Your Crush Quest". It's about a girl who's trying to save the world from the war god, "Jerry", after the passing of Elvis, Earth’s protector. Without Elvis to protect them, the war god has possessed the two major factions of the wasteland - the Elves and the Elvises - who are both fighting over the ownership of the title of "elves".

Thanks.

Huh. Interesting concept. I mean, I'm not a fan of the title, but that's just me.

If you think this is even remotely comparable to an actual cintiq, you've probably never even touched one.

why would i touch it? i use it to view my porn.

let me know when they make one that isn't a downgrade.

If you are determined to keep XP, I'm not going to fight you on it. That's your business.

What I *do* want to know is what is so fantastic about XP that switching to a separate OS like Linux or using a virtual machine for XP on a newer system is out of the question. What's so special about it?

>I can't think of a single piece of hardware that doesn't deprecate quickly.
I have the opposite problem, I'd love to get an older tablet monitor at a nice discount, but they don't seem to go down in price properly

You are writing pretty far up my alley

If the differences are such that you can't explain them, but rather they have to be experienced, then maybe you can be more understanding about the difficulty and/or skepticism people are experiencing. If they can be explained, maybe you could just explain them?

There's not a lot out at the moment so don't get your hopes up. Also, a lot of the beginning art is kind of messy.
webtoons.com/en/challenge/dont-pee-your-pants-in-front-of-your-crush-quest/list?title_no=274424

>but they don't seem to go down in price properly
Yeah, I've noticed that with some of the second hand screen tablets I've seen online. Not even gently used, but fully worn and scratched all to hell and they're still asking for something like 75% cost of the model when new (4-5 years prior at the point). Fuck that, I'd rather get one new that's still in warranty and doesn't have dead pixels and gouges on the screen.

What an intriguing title. Do you have a fetish for it?

No one believes me but her peeing her pants has symbolic meaning, I don't want to spoil it.

Nah, I buy it. How much of the story you have planned out?

Post a page, I'm curious

I have up roughly up until page 50 planned out

Attached: posgetti1.png (1856x2478, 1.06M)

A bit hard to judge from 1 page like that but I understand if you don't want to post more.

What's the genre/intention?

Have you ever drawn on fucking plexiglass?
It's just slippery garbage, while wacom products have a paperlike friction to them which is why they feel a lot better.
There's also other issues like parallax out the ass, interference, glare, etc, but they're not as big as the shitty texture of plexiglass.

I'm actually giving Linux a lot of thought. and 7 isn't that bad.

Okay these are convincing differences. Texture and glare are absolutely important.

It just works.
I keep wanting to try out Linux, but I just always have tons of issues. Drivers messing up, login screen breaking, weird graphical issues, wine randomly not working, file explorer occasionally crashing and so on.
I don't have the time to constantly tinker around with shit like that.
Maybe I should just buy a mac.

I love it when someone else replies to a post replying to me, and I realize there's more than one of me.

OP, you gettin a new thread ready?

Yeah, 7 was decent. 8.1 is ok, definitely an upgrade from 8 but probably not as good as 7 in terms of reliability. 10 is shit, though.

>It just works.
>Linux problems
Fair enough.
You might want to check out local computer or library centers before you go all in on a mac, there's a chance you can rent a mac for while to test it out before buying.

>OP, you gettin a new thread ready?
Yup, already set up and waiting.
Low effort OP image edit incoming, running on empty this week and couldn't handle doing more.

No prob, anything is appreciated
