You know there is a good chunk of problems with SvtfoE in general, but if there's one thing I can praise the series for, it's that I genuinely don't know how it's going to end. They did a really good job portraying Eclipsa in this grey area where she could turn good or evil at any moment and both answers would feel logical and earned compared to other shows where the "traitor twist" (whether it's "I was an infiltrated good guy" or "I was bad all along nya ha ha") comes out of nowhere.

It was nice seeing Star get blown the fuck out about the Spiderbites and monsters. They're completely in the right about Globgor and Eclipsa. Also, its weird noting how they were the only ones willing to visit Eclipsa when Star is dating a Lucitor and best friend's with a Ponyhead.
I mean we literally just had an episode which made it rather clear that Tom's mother hates Star and Ponyhead did meet with Eclipsa or at least tried to, Ponyhead is crazy.

I agree with you that the tension does seem to be ramping up in Mewni. But that seems to be presented as a flaw of the Mewmans themselves, and not Eclipsa.
At worst all you can say is that Eclipsa's new policies etc. are short-sighted/naïve, but I don't see that as a flaw because this naivety is being presented as her hoping/expecting everyone else to be as pure and virtuous as she is depicted.
I'm hoping for more episodes like Swim Suit where Eclipsa is given actual flaws, but the 3 out of 4 segments I've seen today are not like that. I would like more moments where Eclipsa does shit that's objectively wrong in the universe of the show, but I'm not expecting them at this rate.

Narratively I'd expect that, but after the last season or so I'm not expecting the show to actually do some of what it seems to be setting up. The way Ponyhead Show ended does not seem to be what you'd do for a character meant to be portrayed in any way as ambiguous.
I'm honestly not sure what you're referring to about a book being used to free Globgor, unless that's something from the last segment of today which so far I've only seen about 2 minutes of. At the moment it SEEMS like Star should be queen, since within this segment she's the one doing shit while Eclipsa's off somewhere else, but I don't expect the show to follow up on that in a satisfying way given the last season. I'm also sure that within the next 5 minutes of this segment Eclipsa's completely legitimate reason for being gone will be revealed.

Eclipsa was trying to find if any of the book survived Ludo's fire because she could remake the whole book from any piece with magic, Star questioned if she wanted the book to try and find a way to free Globgor, Eclipsa claims she just wanted it to learn spells to help others since she claims she can only invent spells that help herself
Star doesn't seem to buy this though going to her closet where the last shard of the book which was used to revive Golseryk is hidden and she keeps it hidden not trusting that Eclipsa was really telling the truth and being more worried than ever about Globgor after what the Spiderbite family tells her about him

I'm really surprised by how much I ship this couple. It's one of the most casual, stable relationships in the show and I just relish the simplicity of a good fit.

The first episode had Star and Marco go on adventure searching for the person who tried to poison Eclipsa. For the case of the last episode it made sense that they were separated for the plot. Star was preoccupied entertaining the Spiderbites, and Marco had to babysit Meteroa for Eclipsa. At this point its obvious the staff is deliberately holding off Starco, but I'm loving the Star, Marco, and Eclipsa dynamic for now. Eclipsa truly is a Starco shipper.

Eclipsa is the one who hauled the art in and has all those monsters serving her. It seems obvious she brought them in and obvious that Star at least has seen them perform before.
And yet Eclipsa hasn't said or done a thing about that, and Star is expected to be clairvoyant and not only know that this seemingly innocuous dance (1) has a deeper meaning, (2) is potentially offensive to the Spiderbites, and (3) that Globgor fucking ate Shastacan, which going by this episode she doesn't seem to have heard before.
All of this seems to be obviously Eclipsa's fault, for not caring enough to prepare for this or not seeing how the shit she likes could be very easily viewed as offensive by the guests she's supposed to meet, but instead it's all Star's, the literal fucking teenager who's sucking her dick and has unwavering faith in her despite no longer having any obligation to even be babysitting her like this, for reasons that aren't even clear to me. I don't need the show to say she's bad. I'd just like to see more of her actual flaws illustrated sooner rather than later, because it seems like in today's episodes they were laying it on kind of thick.
At the moment I'm just complaining because I'm waiting for this to have larger consequences. It's still possible at this point that they can have her do all those things AND completely justify her motives as right:

I get that the second one won't likely happen since even if she is portrayed worse further down the line I'm sure they'd still want her to be more gray than a villain, BUT then it also turns me off that she's so completely kind to everyone and doesn't seem to have any personal flaws either. I wouldn't be calling her a Mary Sue as much if she seemed to dislike the Mewmans or perhaps was portrayed as antisocial or something.
Something so that she doesn't just come off as the cool kind life of the party who you'd be crazy to hate as much as the Mewmans do in the show, which seems to be the intention anyway so I know this complaint is kind of pointless.

I'm not incredibly interested in Star Vs. + Eclipsa episodes right now/I don't have headphones right now and so I have to keep going back to catch some of the dialogue anyway because the volume's low/sometimes the mega would just pause and I'd have to reload the entire page and video.
Like each of these segments takes forever to get through while I'm watching it like this, so I end up with a lot of time to think about Eclipsa.
It does well to show why the mewmans have grievance with Eclipsa, if she was a truly capable queen she'd look for a practical solution that prevents leaving the people she's supposed to lead homeless. She doesn't even seem to want to be queen, she could easily appoint Star or Moon as queen.
This is something that confuses me. If Star is supposed to be more powerful than Eclipsa, how did Meteora beat Star last season and then get taken down by Eclipsa with like three spells?

They won't. It's supposed to come across as a good thing, that's why the monsters aren't shown to be in any way angry. Though I was surprised when I saw them actually showing that family winding up homeless on-screen. I mean anyone who watches this is bound to find it cruel. Did they think people wouldn't , just because that family has a bit of a southern touch to them?
It's generally part of something that always fascinated me about this show which keeps me interested. Nefcy is very obviously trying to make it the second Steven Universe, or rather a more racial Steven Universe but she goes at it with a certain sincerity and (unintended) self-awareness that makes the political messaging seem a lot less one-sided than intended.
She will have Star make a crusade for monster rights her calling to convey that it's the right thing to do, and how evil others are for not jumping on the bandwagon on command. But she then winds up having the character go overboard with it so much, she looks unreasonable in the process. She will try to write monsters and their sympathisers as nice people, but have Eclipsa put art on display that celebrates ruthless mass slaughter. She (admittedly) projects traits and behaviours from her exes onto Tom in an attempt to make him unlikable, but winds up making the viewer sympathise with him instead. She will have Star say she's a strong independent princess who don't need no man, only to not even be able to carry her luggage and to later indeed need Marco's and Tom's help after all.
I don't know what the cause of it is. Perhaps she has other writers looking over her shoulder and deliberately making her avoid making it SU2, perhaps there is just a disconnect between how she expects things to come across and how they do come across.

I’m generalizing, but Nefcy is a Californian born in L.A., she’s likely completely naive about circumstances about displacing people and the causes of racism in society. So we see monsters being portrayed as comically clean upstanding citizens and Mewmans as racist inbred idiots, as a reflection of Nefcy’s own world views.
We do see some compromises, but with the exception of Eclipsa and Tom’s parents, I honestly can’t name any adults who are portrayed as being on good terms with monsters.

I've thought this as well with the monster stuff. Especially with regard to portraying monsters as incredibly dangerous and seeming to justify Mewman prejudice.

The episode was also written and storyboarded by two women (Kristen Gish and Amelia Lorenz), so they probably did it with intention and purpose. I'm honestly a little surprised they haven't done it a little more (or maybe they have but they got stopped by S&P)

My thinking is that Eclipsa is exceptionally powerful, but also hyper-specialized. She's incredible at her personal brand of dark magic, which focuses on offense and shady stuff, but has otherwise strongly neglected to study the wider potential of magic. As such, she's probably stronger than Star in a straight fight, but Star is much better at magic as a whole right now.

Eclipsa's song and the final scene with the kid were the only good parts of the Ponihead episode. The last one was surprisingly powerful.

I can't tell if I liked how Kelly handled that or not. On one hand she, at a glance, seems to have the emotional maturity to excuse herself and walk around when confronted with unsettling information and doesn't have a tantrum or anything. On the other hand, she also might be kidding herself and putting on a mature front when really she is still pissed at Marco for ruining wrestling for her.
