What instance of you going from loving a show to hating it depresses you the most?
What instance of you going from loving a show to hating it depresses you the most?
Horse Show
Simpsons. It was slow, and didn't sink to the depths of shows like Family Guy, but watching something so great descend into absolute mediocrity just... hurts.
Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. First season was ace, but them Bloo's asshole-ness got out of control and the show became really bitter and mean.
Rick and Morty, it's less depressing and more the five stages of grief
>no no its still good
>fuck its fucking shit god dammit
>maybe if they get rid of the women that lazzo hired
>it'll never get better
>it'll never get better and that's alright
Yeah, these two are my biggest. It's sad that the Simpsons' legacy is now reduced to almost nothing positive. It was a cultural phenomenon that's begging to be laid to rest now.
Also Rick and Morty got shit real fast. Fucking Harmon and his relationship drama and lore bullshit in a show that should've just been wacky science adventures.
Also, maybe Spongebob? I think that's more due to the fact that it's not something too hard to fuck up, and could still be funny with the right writers. But no.
Steven Universe, about half way through season 2.
It doesn't especially depress me, that's just the only instance I can think of.
>The Simpsons
Mostly, I'm just numb to it, but I can go back and watch the first seven seasons whenever I want. Really, Futurama is what you are supposed to watch once you run out of good Simpsons episodes.
>Family Guy
I feel similar to the Simpsons; the story of the show is more interesting because they were canceled and came back, but the descent into mediocrity was faster because the creator is more of an apathetic hedonists. I like what he did and he's funny but I would never count on him for anything.
>Adventure Time
The maker of this series was even worse that Seth. He had great ideas, but the creator is a shitty Millennial. The woke tumblr culture made it even easier for him to make some money, stop caring, and let his show go on autopilot and become a testing ground for shitty, self-indulgent new "talent"
>Reddit and Morty
Arguably an even steeper dive into shittiness between seasons two and three than Adventure Time. The took on a bunch of female writers for the purpose of taking on a bunch of female writers and now the quality hops around depending on how many affirmative action hires are working on any given episode.
Basically, we've got the formula for turning something into shit:
>Creators with good ideas get a lot of money and stop caring/get bored faster than ever.
>The company won't abandon an IP that is making them money until every last bit of good will is gone.
>Inserting representation/identity politics into a show will get it extra attention from the woke crowd who don't really care about the genre or story but will buy those shitty vinyl figurines.
>Since the medium is animation, creators can abandon their IP, collect royalties or voicing fees, and let plebs keep their shows going.
>The plebs insert their own shitty politics and fetishes, which the original fanbase hates. Because the plebs no their own creations will never be popular, they destroy what others enjoy out of spite.
I like your choice of reaction gifs user
Adventure Time and Steven Universe, the early seasons were really inspiring to me and it hurt to watch the writing devolve to crap in both of them, so much wasted potential.
hating cartoons is a waste of precious energy. I just stop thinking about them and forget they even exist
same. but nothing has hurt worse than whats been done to the xmen and avengers in comics.
ive had to put them down like old yeller.
young loki being killed for emo loki who then got ruined as soon as he became good is a close second
Horsebutt show ended on a high note.
There's still a ninth and final season. Fuck I don't even keep up with the show and haven't for years but even I know this. Let's check the description for the first episode of it.
>When Celestia and Luna decide to retire and hand off the ruling of Equestria to Twilight and her friends, it send Twilight into a tailspin of self-doubt. The ancient villain Grogar plots to conquer all of Equestrian[sic], but King Sombra has ideas of his own.
Well, that's something alright.
I know it's not Yea Forums, but, Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V.
Why is it so hard for things to not become shit? Ice King was much more fun when he was just an old perverted prick.
I used to be so excited for new Steven Universe episodes for the first couple seasons. The constant hiatuses were part of what killed it for me, but also they just didn't seem to have a real plan for the plot after the cluster was dealt with. Also, leaving Peridot at the barn with Lapis was an immediate red flag for me and predictably ended up being terrible. Not that I want Peridot to be a main character on the same level as the main gems, but it was such a lazy way to not have to change the status quo. Isn't this show supposed to be about how great it is for things to be always changing?
What the fuck is any of that supposed to mean? I can't read moon.
It's ratings from nico nico, a Japanese video website. Basically, the more cool colors, the more positive ratings, the more warm and hot colors, the more negative ratings.
What happened?
Because the phrase "Quit while you're ahead" isn't a platitude. There are plenty of things that despite coming in small quantities, I have much more prolific and fond memories of watching because they only ran as long as they needed to tell a compelling story, rather than become a dancing whore of a corpse. I know it's a meme to shit on Hirsch and I'm no fan of him as a person, but I'll give him credit for his brevity with GF.
The series lasted three years, the first year was incredible and had people praising it as the best Yu-Gi-Oh series to date, the second year had a lot of padding and jerked the audience around by looking like it was going to reveal stuff and pull the trigger on big developments, but pulling back on it. People gave it some rope because it was still a good show, but were starting to get impatient.
Then starting around episode 100, it started really pissing people off, big time. In the last year of the series, they wasted a lot of time on pointless side-arcs and all the stuff that had been built up the previous two years mostly got disappointing reveals. Nobody liked the ending at all, it screwed a lot of the characters over, but in a way that was presented as a happy ending.
Not a show, but Star Wars.
Loved Force Awakens so much that I had a ton of theories, Last Jedi crushed me.
>it screwed a lot of the characters over, but in a way that was presented as a happy ending.
Like digimon 02?
Kinda, yeah. It got us attached to a pretty large cast and the endings for them were just really flat and insulting.
>What instance of you going from loving a show to hating it depresses you the most?
Boy
The only time was Yea Forums related but it was [spoilerp] naruto and i just read it to the end to justify my hatred of it. God that zabuza arc tricked me.
Unpopular opinion but TLJ was better than TFA
Not a show, but Sinfest.
Man of taste. Both were shit but at least TLJ blasted some of the worst shit from TFA and will force JJ to be at least a little original in Ep 9. I've never been so pleased at a sequel for assassinating the plot points in its predecessor.
While it's true Sinfest went FULL MOTHERFUCKING RETARD, it wasn't that great before. The art was great, but the writing was at best mediocre.
TFA was a movie that was pretty much fine without any highs or lows and TLJ was a movie that had higher hows but also had some dumb stuff in it. Both were, at the end of the day, pretty okay.
It wasn't terrifically good. That's not the point. The point is that it was a pure expression of a rejection of all things extremely ideological, in favor of a presentation of flawed individuals trying to live their life and explore their wants and needs in a way that is bold, but at the same time cautious. It didn't have that much insight, but what it did have its finger on was just how much bullshit was in all the politics of division and identity. For something like this to turn into an ideological mouthpiece for gender politics is really depressing to me.
That image of Nique and Slick flipping off the Devil trying to feed divisive propaganda about feminism and machoism and all other things trying to get in the way of their individual emotional relationship is just so sad to me.
I dropped it HARD after Diamond days. The story us over, fuck this I'm free!
>loved Force Awakens
It was shit user
>loved TFA
You’re the cancer that killed Star Wars.
>pretty okay
Well if awful writting, a literal Mary Sue protagonist and a villain whose motivation is literally "I'm evil because I must be evil!" then who I am to disagree?
Star vs, right after Toffe died, literally every single about it after was awful.
You didn't even write a complete sentence.
What kind of game of thrones shit is that?
*wrote
I haven't watch Star since season 1. Anyone wanna give the rundown on the plot after that? I've heard the writers don't seem to have any direction they wanna go with the story.
that anime trinity blood was so cool and then it was just complete trash halfway thru
>Grogar is finally in
Well, shit. I might not go back to catching up but at least I'll try to see how it shakes out
Penny Arcade. It's unbearbly awful now. It's like seeing your grandpa, who was still a healthy and virile if somewhat aging man in your childhood, become a doddering old alcoholic with severe depression. It's that memory of the good times compared to the grim reality of how everything decays over time that really hammers home how awful the world really is.
Star Vs
>went from fun magical adventure with two dorky friends that support each other
>now it's boring lore, relationship drama and poorly thought out arcs
>hardly any fun adventures with the two leads anymore
The fact that so many people here go straight from loving a show to full on hating it with no in between shows exactly why the conversation on this board is so garbage.
To be fair season 2 had some of the shittiest episodes the show has to offer.
But 3 is fine on rewatch, hiatuses just took all the steam out of it.
What did the female writers add to Season 3?
Most recently adventure time. I don't even want to think about it, its that depressing to me. I hope mutto gets gunned down in the street like the dog he is.
I never hate shows I just lose interest in them, every show gets stale after 3 seasons
Gravity Falls had the perfect length
Not Yea Forums but Doctor Who fucking depresses me now.
Bojack.
I keep hoping characters develop and become better. That's my fault for thinking that and once I realized that no one is really going to grow as a person it really becomes just watching Always sunny, but more depressing and less funny.
>Sunbutt and buttsplotch are retiring
God please let this be a reason to have them around more. Their episodes are fun
... m-me?
... you mean ME?
God, I know write? The OT was garbage
>i wrote fucking write instead of right
God I need to sleep
Ed Edd'n Eddy is always brought up as a good example and even that was showing good signs of running out of steam before the movie wrapped things up
you are not alone in this user. the Zabuza arc was golden. it moved me. it had hart, and you could feel someone spend a lot of time thinking the story over. the characters had arcs, the world had conflict. but soon after that the show/comic became shit we got used to. tournament arcs, characters with six arms as powers instead of the more classical ninja traits like walking on water etc. it simply lost it's charm and it fooled me in to watching it.
My friend an I died laughing when we saw that.
It really just looked like he was taking the piss out of Carl.
Watching Steven Universe turn into LGBTQ fanfare has been one of the most frustrating and heartbreaking things for me. As one of the very few hetero fans the show has (or had), I feel so alienated and let down by Sugar.
I felt sort of the same way with the Adventure Time finale, like that kiss between Bubbles and Marcy was just a big fat middle finger to us "hetero demons" that dared watch the show.
Basicly all Fox sitcom cartoons. Some started meh and turned worse but they all start to suck hard.
Nothing really changed about those shows, imho, it sounds like it was you that radicalized yourself in an attempt to fight imaginary demons.
Rick And Morty S3
>hating Always Sunny
That's his point though. It's alway sunny is funny to see them dig themselves deeper and not grow because your not supposed to take it seriously and that's the joke.
Bojack needs to end because it does and expects you too while never letting any substantial developments stick
Star vs, some point the characters stop growing and maturing and instead go full backwards faster and faster as the show progress.
Star is more spoiled and impulsive than ever, Marco is no longer the voice of the reason and is currently more retarded than Star herself(making his presence in the show compeltelly pointless) Meteora turned more and more 2 dimensional until she got literally brainwashed to think she is a baby again by her totally not evil I swear mother.
lol Season 2 was way better than 3. Sadie's Song was really the only low point of it and it's honestly not that bad an episode, just painfully generic.
Season 3 had so many boring episodes and even the plot relevant episodes left a lot to be desired.
Season 4 probably had the worst episodes the show had to offer. That's when the fan fiction-y feel started to get overwhelming.
Steven Universe was always going to have those elements. Adventure Time was a kick in the balls.
Gumball, too many memes, politics and sucking Twitter's cock for me to care about this show.
I don't mind it. I mean, think about it, the most important character in the series is actually "heterosexual" and attracted to human males despite being a genderless alien rock. I wouldn't say that's straight exclusionary.
Also, Russia and homophobes in general can climb a pile of dicks. I'm glad Sugar made her content difficult to censor, even if that made it unnecessarily racy in some segments.
South Park
It was so good before Obama's election, now it's a zombie show.
Man I agree with this really hard, I know that it probably wouldn't work but I always wanted to keep bloo the way he was from the movie. He became so aggravating it was getting hard to enjoy the show.
The Simpsons of course.
Granted, that happened a long time ago, but it still hurts since the show went from being one of the best shows on TV to being one of the worst.
>>hardly any fun adventures with the two leads anymore
S4 just might sway you
>As one of the very few hetero fans the show has (or had)
You bought into the loud side of the fanbase too hard. SU used to be pretty broadly popular in seasons 1 through 3, I seriously doubt that you're "one of the very few" heterosexuals that watched it.
This is accurate. SU was rigged from the start; it just hid the gay stuff until it could ease you into it.
AT jusy kinda bumbled into all that lesbian stuff and no on ehad the guts or willpower to stop it. Look at PB and Marceline's original appearances and tell me they were meant to be gay. It's all retcon BS because the show became its own fanfiction.
>lore bullshit
YES THANK YOU! I always thought that it should've been wacky adventures with a drunk scientist and his autistic grandson. Same thing happened to Steven Universe for me. When they started doing more it was like wtf why. I just want an episodic cartoon about space lesbians god.
Season 15 of RvB. Shooting Washington and crippling him broke my patience
>watching RvB post season 6
I saw the writing on the wall with that when they tried to be super serial with the Director/Dr. correspondence.
Series ended with season 5 far as I'm concerned.
I held onto the simpsons longer than I should have. I think it was mostly due to my disdain for the post 4 family guy episodes.
Huh, that was also the last episode I watched.
Simpsons was pretty bad even before Family Guy was uncancelled.
Marcelina looks more like a snake as time goes on.
The west can’t do power scaling cause after Toffee, nobody seemed as competent or powerful as they were previously made out to be.
>9648
which election?
Gunnerkrigg Court, aka one more onto the lesbian pile.
Man did I use to love that webcomic when I first discovered it.
Second place... maybe Homestuck? I used to be super into it, the community was a major part of my life, I was even into cringey RPing. Then the comic went to shit, it was obviously a gradual process but the Alpha Kids's introduction stands out as the moment when it became actively painful to read.
As if to punctuate, some time after I'd left the official forums were wiped, so all my GOOD fandom memories are gone forever.
It's hard to let go after you've invested so much time into it though...
It's like having a son or daughter that you love very much and want to grow up to be happy and successful, only to have them whore themselves out in the future for a quick buck.
They made Toffee too hot and likable.
Once he died at least a fourth of the fanbase mourned the death of such a cool villain.
Timon and Pumbaa: they changed animation studios and more importantly writers in Season 3
>Watching Steven Universe turn into LGBTQ fanfare has been one of the most frustrating and heartbreaking things for me. As one of the very few hetero fans the show has (or had), I feel so alienated and let down by Sugar.
Someone actually wrote this out
Still no porn of this scene yet...
Its funny I always hear shit about censorship being "THEY GOT RID OF TITS ON THE COVER OF THIS THING" and yet not a peep about the dumb lesbian kiss being censored in other countries. Really quite telling.
O shit I didn't expect to see anyone mention this one. Definitely agree though. First couple seasons were pretty weird but kinda funny/enjoyable
