is this show calarts?
also hilda thread. i finished it the other day and im very sad about it.
Is this show calarts?

I guess but I feel the word has become meaningless with how people place it on anything they don’t like
>is this show calarts?
Shut the fuck up.
writing-wise, yes. it was very boring.
No. The calarts style, although most don't realize it, is defined more by its writing than its art. Chowder, for example, looks like most calarts shows, but is written in such a way where it feels completely different.
If you are talking about the art style, It's eurocomics with a bit of bean face.
>Very sad about it
Y tho?
sorry. please don't be mad with me user i think that johanna is a very good waifu indeed :)
because i enjoyed it and now i have nothing to watch until something else that interests me comes out. i usually watch these things after work, so it makes me less stressed out.
basically calarts. it doesnt just have ugly bean mouths
No, it gets a pass because it's actually good.
>Writing-wise it’s Calarts
What the fuck does this even mean
Have you tried the comics? They are pretty good, the only problem is you'll think the series is shit right after finish them., kek.
are you saying that it doesnt have bean mouths or are you saying that it shares other qualities with typical calarts animation, just wondering if you mixed up the just doesn't and the doesn't just.
no i haven't. around 15 minutes before making this thread i was doing some looking around for someone selling them. do you know where i might find them? digital or physical, doesn't matter.
>Imagine being this wrong
"Cal Arts" style started as a meme to talk despectively about shows that have le-bean-face, like Steven Universe, but later it evolved into "style-of-shows-that-I-don't-like". It doesn't have nothing to do with writing, you fucking morons.
I just finished it the other day as well. We're all in agreement that Woodman is the best right?
>"The next time I'm in town I'll stop by"
>"You do the same"
>"Just.....walk on in"
Hit he right in the fucking heart. Plus the final scene.
>"I little girl made friends with a giant"
>"I guess she learnt her lesson"
>Odds are she'd do it again"
So fucking good.
The comics were shared in the early Hilda threads.
mega.nz
>Also
I'm watching the 90's and the 2019 moomins, they are pretty good. Pearson take a lot of inspiration from moomins.
>We're all in agreement that Woodman is the best right?
Woodman=Best man
Alfur=Best boi
Thunderbird=Best birb
Fuck off retard OP, you don't even know what Calarts even means outside of what you infer to be 'a bad show'
the former. my mistake.
although i dont think its so calarts-ish. its more lighthearted and normal imo. straight up calarts cartoons like su are full of snobby pop culture references or pretends to be "cultural" or something.
hey does anyone remember that dark horse comic where a young girl had a pet that looked like the flying thing in OPs picture and then went apeshit when it got murdered? Think it was a star wars comic
>Calarts=Bean Face
>No calarts= No bean face
Is not that hard, faggot. Why do you keep adding shit to the definition?
thank you! i'll be sure to read these.
So I noticed a bunch of hanging plot threads/upcoming story hints.
>Tide Mice jumping on Hilda
>David always having bugs on him
>Missing Old Giants
>How there's no longer an Old Giant sitting on the tallest mountain protecting the world
>Hilda's father
>The librarian that's totally a vampire
Any others I missed?
So, guys, what are you watching/reading until October? What are you doing until the next comic? My college keeps my mind occupated.
thank you for clarifying!
>that's totally a vampire
I thought she was a witch/sorcerer
I prefer calling that "Cal-Arts style" "blandstyle" because I see it a lot on CN these days.
She has a weird vampireish accent and we never see her outside which made me think vampire. But she'll probably be some weird twist like a knowledge vampire or something. She always seemed to know exactly what they needed and she seems to have everything in the library/city memorized like she's really old.
the tide mice turn up i think 1 or 2 episodes after the one they premiered in, just one of them though for maybe 2 seconds. also i was wondering about the David bug thing too, perhaps just a running joke between the folks making it, maybe it was in the comics i don't know. i assume hilda's father probably won't be making any sort of appearances any time soon. i dont know about the librarian being a vampire and the giants though.
>I prefer calling that "Cal-Arts style" "blandstyle"
If only there were more people like you, user.
Now it's an official Hilda thread!
>Ends up hanging out with the fear eating nightmare spirits that were haunting her friends, with no explanation given
This was my one problem with the season. Does she even apologize for being a massive bitch?
>"You know you could just clean your room yourself"
She seemed to have a meltdown over such a tiny, easily remedied thing that you'd think someone with her work ethic would have no problem getting over.
tries to be as tame and safe as possible and doesn't do anything interesting with its premise, see craig of the creek and we bare bears as further examples
What did she mean by this?
i think she clashes with hilda very well, frida being a perfectionist asshole and hilda having little to nothing to worry about add to the show, in the tiniest bit. you also have to remember that her parents are dickheads and expect her to be perfect, as hinted at in the baby troll episode, which is probably a contributing factor to her being an ass. i do wish they explained why she was hanging out with the nightmare spirit ladies though.
>nightmare spirit ladies
Speaking of. Are they spirits or real girls with powers? I thought they were just magical spirits but then one of them was living in a normal house with her mother when they were collecting junk.
Why was this deleted
i think they are simply regular chicks who go out and do stuff like giving people nightmares at night. kinda like how hilda sneaks out and adventures. however i do think that a couple of them are entirely supernatural, like the chick giving david nightmares.
But they can all turn into that spirit form stuff.
yeah but i think that power is just given to them by the supernatural chicks. or maybe its like the tide mice and you have to do a spell thing to get like that, and the longer you use the spell, the closer you are to becoming a nightmare spirit forever.
You see her outside for a few seconds in the last episode. Her accent is also Swedish
Stop trying to force your own definition of Calarts you brainlet shitwit. If you think the writing sucks, just say it sucks. Don't insert Calarts into everything cause that's the surest way to not be taken seriously by anyone
What about Tontu?
I call him an enjoyable cunt. Not in a bad way but his demeanor is cuntish in a good way.
I thought he was an enjoyable dick until that part as well, but it shows that he's actually like that because he thinks they're such good friends.
>It doesn't have nothing to do with writing
Dumbass. The shift to expanding the roles of storyboarders to also replacing the writers is entirely Calarts driven.
Pretty sure it started when John K. used it to describe stuff like the Iron Giant and Disney movies that the internet mangled into what it is today.
All the Nissas are called tontu.
>The shift to expanding the roles of storyboarders to also replacing the writers is entirely Calarts driven.
[citation needed]
I mean, characters have bean mouths, but you can tell that actual effort was put into the drawing and animation.
Cal Arts is more like the complete free-for-all that was Steven Universe.
Johanna is unreasonably sexy. I want to just grab her hand and eat some cucumber sandwiches.
Your neck is calarts. Kindly squeeze it VERY hard.
No - this show is awesome and I'm waiting patiently for Season 2. Social Justice Universe and Star Vs. Her Own Fucking Obnoxiousness are fine examples of CalArts, my dear binary user.
She's a witch. And one who knows how to dress with class, too. Post more of her NOW.
Be honest, Yea Forums.
City or forest episodes?
I want to hold hands with the one who dresses like Hilda.
I mean best Tontu.
>tfw no quirky MILF gf
>tfw you'll never be Hilda's step dad
>tfw you'll never get to tell her shes going to have a little brother or sister
>occupated
Well, I can see english isn't your master.
>Post more of her NOW.
Ok
Pretty sure the actual conception was when people noticed the similarities in art style between Gravity Falls, Steven Universe , Star vs, Gumball and Adventure Time and some rando noticed that all those people went to CalArts
How is Johanna "quirky?"
I think David's thing is a joke, the giants were said to all have left since humans came and like hilda did with the elves, I guess the evil is done or was made up so giants wouldn't fuck with man, hilda's father I'm curious too, and the librarian is probably a witch but I wonder what her story is. Was she an old nightmare teen that got serious, some women who studied so hard she became a witch, or apart of the towns history? Also you missed the scientists women capturing a cloud, the halfling giant with penis envy, the woodman himself and possibly what will come after the elves since the giant myth seems to be cyclical.
>you missed the scientists women capturing a cloud, the halfling giant with penis envy
I don't think they're hints at future stuff.
>the woodman himself
This could be though.
I'm convinced all the stuff I said will come back. Especially the David bugs things since they've called it out so many times and the evil needing yo be stopped by someone sitting on the mountain thing. Screenshot it.
Although it might turn out to be different in the show, in the comic the thing with David and the bugs was a one-shot joke. He was trying to find a bug to earn a badge, but wasn't aware that the bug he was looking for was on him the whole time.
>the frida pasta is so well known it now gets banned
It was practically furniture in a Hilda thread. You don't really need it, but it has to be there
I just feel that they've drawn attention to it too many times for there to be no payoff.
Kino is back on the menu.
Absolutely amazing.
>TFW You’ll never rub Johanna’s large, sensitive MILF Feet.
is luke pearson working on the next hilda comic?
Calarts is a meme word that retarded weebs use for anything that is western animation because they don't know what it actually is
MOAR.
Shill harder.
Hilda is dead
It's a running gag you autist
and we killed her
Forest
I don't know where the creator went to school but the art looks Adventure Timey AF so I'm going to assume he's an ex writer/ story board artist from AT and prob a cal arts clique guy.
His original comic (started around mid-2000s, I think?) started out with a very different art style. However as it developed it started to resemble the CN/AT style. You can trace a similar trajectory in Scott Pilgrim
Luke Pearson said that he may or may not elaborate on where Hilda’s Dad is. He is still alive, though
One day people will ditch the stupid term
Comics>cartoon or series as a whole?
>Hilda comics > Hilda series
Basicaly that.
thanks
we should replace the term with "blandstyle" for how bland the artstyle looks
It's a calarts show.
No one places it on things they don't like dumbass.
They place it on lazy ass same art style as Steven Universe and Adventure time etc shows.
Be original. Make your own style instead of imitating lazy ass artists.
Yep.
It's Calarts.
And here's a Calarts fetish user.
to be fair, I have seen people call Netflix's Carmen SanDiego as Calarts
>No one places it on things they don't like dumbass.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
The funny part here is most of the artist weren't to Cal Arts either.
