Depends on how it's used. Like in Naruto for example, it comes out of nowhere and it was only there to make him a special snowflake. In Harry Potter, I think it was used well enough since he was already special from the beginning and it's actually explained why Voldmort wanted him dead.

Lol no he wasn't, Harry was only special because Voldemort tried to kill him, and because his mother sacrificed her life to save him. If Voldemort had done anything differently that night (not giving Lily the chance to sacrifice herself, sending someone else to kill the Potters, going after the Longbottoms or even just disregarding the prophecy entirely) he wouldn't have "died" and Harry wouldn't be involved in the plot. Dumbledore even says in OOTP that the prophecy only came true because Voldemort himself set it in motion. Harry is the Chosen One, but Voldemort's the one who chose him.

Yes, he was. He was special right from the first book/movie which is my point because I was comparing him to naruto who moved from being underdog to special snowflake who was destined for greatness suddnly in the middle of part 2 of the story with no build up.

Harry Potter did the trope right since what made him special was the fact that he wasn't special.
He was such a ordinary literally who that the prophecy was shared with Longbottom, the punching bag joke character (granted he got a lot of development overtime but still) and survived cause of his mothers protection that caused Voldemort's plan to backfire.
Voldemort couldn't stand the idea a subwizard like him could do anything, and it was his own ego and fuck up plus his mom playing Voldi that ultimately made Harry special.

You know the prophecy actually describes two people, right? Either Harry or Neville could have been the Chosen One. Harry became the Chosen One because Voldemort himself decided that Harry had to be the one. There wouldn't have been a Chosen One at all if Voldemort just ignored the prophecy.

Then again, that only happened because Snape still had a great big throbbing boner for Lily and asked Voldemort to spare her so he could "comfort the widow". That's what made Lily's death a sacrifice: Voldemort offered to spare her if she stood aside, and she refused. If Voldemort had gone after Neville, Snape's boner wouldn't be a factor and Voldemort wouldn't make Neville's mother (Alice I think she's called?) the offer he made Lily.

Kung Pow's guy might've been more fitting a bunch of years back, but these days Anakin's probably more relevant. There's been a lot of prequel memes and even love for those movies during the last few years. The generation that saw the prequels as children has grown up, and is now posting online about their nostalgia and defense arguments for those movies. Also, OT and PT fans appear to have found some kind of truce in mutual hatred against the sequel trilogy.
Anyway, the most iconic chosen one of Yea Forums is probably Aang.
