So why was she not added to the original Avengers line-up?

Her power was unstable and got worse over time to the point where she's on the verge of ceasing to exist

She didn't pass the test like Stark

And she was a head case who probably didn't shower

Generally secret assassins don't do missions that get them put on the front page of the newspaper.

This.
Also she didn't have anything relevant to offer that the team needed in the first movie AND it would have bee smart to keep her hidden away.

Had she ran away before that?

Super mentally unstable.

I guess she is more like Winter Soldier then...they have quite a bit in common

To cutee!

She's a liability and was dying anyway.

She's cute.
Also it's kinda nice seeing a bad guy that's not all about self-destruction and actually obsessed with self-preservation

Can she be my wife?

Bucky's fine now. He wasn't an Avenger while he was mindbroken.

I remember seeing this and thinking "Oh shit, this is the perfect way to do Ghost's personality without the conspiracy theorist thing" but it's just for that one scene at the house.

She's still cute though

>Able to beat Hawkeye and Widow
Just because she's superhuman? She seemed to me like kind of a shit fighter who just used her powers as a crutch.

It's not like Widow offered anything relevant to the team

Always need someone that runs with intelligence to get an idea of what's going on, otherwise the events of Winter Soldier would have gone differently without her, Fury, and Hill getting involved.

They never said it, but I've always sort of assumed that she was operating under the part of SHIELD that was really Hydra.

Think about it. Everything about Ghost's backstory sounds *exactly* like how Hydra operates. Picking up a child and training them to be your superpowered assassin? I'm not saying that SHIELD couldnt have done it, but Hydra absolutely would have done it. It also explains why there was no backup plan for her when Shield collapsed, there would have been no official records about her at all. Hydra went underground and didn't bring her with them, probably because Hydra's brainwashing technique of locking you into a chair and hypnotizing you for days doesn't work on a bitch that can phase through the chair on accident and escape at any time. So she never was indoctrinated.

And if you assume she was a Hydra project, that explains why she has no connection to Nick Fury. He might not have ever know she was "Shield".

I always thought that too. She says she had to sell her soul to SHIELD and makes it sound much more hardcore than it is.

She is literally The Hulk’s handler, you need someone on the team to be able to reign him in, and her tricking banner into believing they were romantically involved was just the right kind of leash she needed to keep him under control.

>tricking banner into believing they were romantically involved
Oh, I would have loved this reveal. But now it would just seem like backtracking.

I didn't really see it as her tricking him. I saw it as her being so broken that her role on the team literally defined her as a person and influenced her to the point where she was actually feeling what she needed to to fill that role.

Widow being a spy is naturally a liar, I never felt her and Bruce’s relationship in AoU was real on her end, even when she sees him again during IW she is just kind of like “Ah, there he is”.
Me too, and you’re right, but I wouldn’t care at all

I think this is your head cannon that you’re trying to pass off as fact. Because I can say with absolute certainty there was never any word on Whedon’s part about Widow not actually having feelings for Bruce.

True but it’s supported by how the characters have acted since they first appeared, Widow has shown time and again that even when she’s on your side, she has her own objective. Her first meeting with Hulk is her lying directly to his face trying to gently ease him into what she and Shield needs him to be. It might just be the actors and director not doing their job properly, but I just never got the impression that Widow was being honest, even when she opens up about being sterile it comes off as a fabricated tale that she gives him only after he tells her he wants to run away from the team.
But you’re probably right, there isn’t a chance in hell that Whedon would have written Widow with any kind of depth.

This.
But then she was just angry or sad for the rest of the movie.
Plus she got beaten up by Wasp repeatedly.
Honestly I got more of a sense of threat from Walter Goggins and his wacky goon squad.

based and ghost-pilled

>So why was she not added to the original Avengers line-up?
Because I, her husband, did not permit her. I don't want my wife doing dangerous stuff

She had no right to be so cute during this entire exchange

Context?

Because they'd ruined her life enough?

Not everyone wants to BE an Avenger. She just has the advantage of being an actual liability (severely traumatized).

She wants to fuck Scott in front of Hope but then her powers start acting up and she realizes you can't fuck an intangible pussy, no matter how you try.

>character is unintentionally written with nuances the directors didn't intend
Does this happen anywhere else in the MCU? It seems like a thing that might happen a lot.

O hoped that they used more characteristics from comic Ghost but no.

>vaguely sympathetic anti-corporate terrorist
>in a Disney property
Yeah, fat chance.
It would have been great, I agree. Her backstory wasn't too bad but she didn't really have a lot going on with her.

Stop cheapening this movie with your no gf meme

she offered pussy to hulk

>Plus she got beaten up by Wasp repeatedly.
The fights pissed me off most in that movie.
They establish fairly early on that she can just phase through people and murder them instantly, only to have her never do it again.
It'd be like if a movie started with an elite military sniper taking someone out from a mile away, and then only pulling out his rifle in melee range after that.

So Elysium.

She was so fucking attractive in this scene

I’m pretty sure it does, however it’s something that I don’t usually notice in other movies because I’m not as invested or knowledgeable about the characters presented.

Why is this giving me a boner?

Widow and Hawkeye were agents that ended up in the Avengers because of the circumstances.
The known Avengers candidates were Tony, Cap and Abomination. Abomination got written off thanks to Coulson's scheme using Tony as a patsy. In turn, Tony was deemed unsuitable as well.
Hell, the Avengers initiative was scrapped by the time of A1.

So, each Avenger that ended up in the team was by circumstance.
Cap was under SHIELD custody as he acclimated to the modern world. Tony was brought in as a consultant. Banner was brought in as a Gamma radiation expert. Widow was sent to retrieve Banner. Hawkeye joined because he'd been possessed by Loki, wanted payback, and Cap asked him when he took charge of the situation. Thor showed up to deal with Loki, and got involved.

So the Avengers, as they turned out, weren't gathered as planned, but in a "who is available right now" basis.
Ghost was neither a candidate (unstable and used in covert ops, something that's true for Widow as well and brought them trouble later on) nor readily available at the time.

There's a lot of theories about stuff like that. Things like Odin's change from conqueror to peaceful ruler being due to the Soul stone.

The idea goes that, back in Hela's day, Odin wanted to conquer everything, and tried to gather the Infinity Stones, which is why he has a Gauntlet. He'd managed to gather at least a few of them (we know he had the Space stone, there's an Agammotto relic in Asgard, so he could have had the Time stone, and he knew where the Reality stone was), then went for the Soul stone, found he had to sacrifice Hela for it, and couldn't do it.
So he changed his ways, put the Gauntlet with fake stones in the Vault, hid the Space stone on Earth, maybe gave the Time stone to Agammotto and hid away the other stones if he had them, and became a peaceful ruler. Hela didn't take kindly to it, and we know the rest.

Probably not, but it's fun to think about.

>bad guy

She was gonna kidnap his child user
