what did the MCU do different than the comics that pissed Yea Forums off the most?
What did the MCU do different than the comics that pissed Yea Forums off the most?
white washing the ancient one to appease Chinese censors under the shield of "the ancient one was a racist stereotype"
replacing Uncle Ben with Tony Stark
dumbing down Scarlet Witch's powers
cramming in Planet Hulk references into Thor: Ragnarok, closing the door on ever getting a proper adaptation of the story
Well, Tony Stark being the key to everything is divisive.
For me, Zemo was a huge letdown. Extremis and Mandarin mishandled despite Kingsley being best part of flick.
They made Carol not dress like a stripper.
>replacing Uncle Ben with Tony Stark
Why do people say this? I never understood
MCU Bruce Banner/Hulk in general is a dumpster fire of bad writing.
Was this board ever mad about Whedon killing off Quicksilver?
On a more personal level, I was mad that they killed off Klaue.
>Was this board ever mad about Whedon killing off Quicksilver?
I was, but he's coming back in Endgame, right?
>BUT THEY NEVER SAID UNCLE BEN DIDN'T DIE
The problem is what Peter's primary motivation in life is. In Homecoming, Peter gives zero fucking shits about doing the right thing, he's only in it to impress Tony Stark. Which is incredibly unfortunate, because Maguire's Peter facing off with Keaton's Vulture would have made for a really interesting movie since Vulture's worldview would have been a legitimate struggle for Peter to deal with.
For me, it was making every movie a comedy. For every rare instance a "serious" movie happens (Incredible Hulk, Winter Soldier... and that's all) you have every other movie subvert itself with humor and lowering stakes because no one takes them seriously. Superheroes by nature are whimsical, sure. But that doesnt make them cartoons. They are capable of uplifting people and inspiring them to reach greater heights. The MCU has cemented superheroes as clowns for countless future generations. Just monkeys in suits dance battling for the purpose of creating more internet memes. The fact that everyone is ok with that is what makes me furious.
Besides that, each movie has the effects budget of a CW show. The only impressive CGI I've seen has been their de-aging technology. Beyond that, the effects are laughable at best.
The identity pandering stuff is just icing on the shit cake, and it will continue to get worse in the next phase of films. Feige has made that abundantly clear.
>Incredible Hulk, Winter Soldier... and that's all
You forgot Black Panther. You might not have liked the movie, but it didn't have any of the typical Marvel quips (tm).
Also, ironically, Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2 are both the furthest in terms of being straight up comedy films, yet are also more serious and have more genuine character development moments than the large majority of the MCU films.
>Peter gives zero fucking shits about doing the right thing, he's only in it to impress Tony Stark
>Forgetting that he already had the power/responsibility mindset before he ever met Tony
>Forgetting the number of times he's outright disobeyed Tony to do what he thought was right
>cramming in Planet Hulk references into Thor: Ragnarok
This is unforgivable to me. Planet Hulk would've been an excellent standalone.
not including Death in infinity war.
they should have just made gamora Death at the end when she asked what did it cost.
Black Panther may have been non-quippy, fine. But it was a low risk flick neck deep in identity politics. Everything about it was masturbatory, singing the praises of a fictional African culture that played African Americans like a fiddle to manipulate them into believing they were seeing more than simply a capeshit movie. It was a capeshit movie flaunting itself as an historical civil rights movement. Miss me with that shit.
I was surprised how much I liked Capt. Marvel but I really wasn't happy with the skrulls.
-Zemo being a buttblasted sokovian
-Spider-man being tony starks spider-maid
-Pym being old as balls
-Ultron entirely
>Besides that, each movie has the effects budget of a CW show
I feel like that's not a very good insult considering the Flash had a realistic live action adaptation of Gorilla Grodd as a recurring role, including full episodes involving action sequences using him.
CW budget seems capable of a lot when it's used right. What people seem to actually be insulting that deserves it is the designs of things like costumes and plotlines, and the former isn't a budgeting thing. The latter is probably closer to one.
>replacing Uncle Ben with Tony Stark
he will be also replaced with Happy Hogan in Far From Home
>Was this board ever mad about Whedon killing off Quicksilver?
Not one bit. Even if I liked the character (I don't) ATJ's portrayal wasn't all that good.
I really h8 Mark Ruffalo
that scene in Cap 1 when carter touched caps pec, if it was the other way around it would have been sexist and sexual assault etc
I guess treating Hulk/Bruce Banner as a 3rd-rate character, but I nothing has really pissed me off tbqh.
It's the 40s my man.
Mandarin shouldn't have been a red herring
>what did the MCU do different than the comics that pissed Yea Forums off the most?
What they did with Janet, she should be in Phase 1 and she should be their WW
A lot about Ant Man's development cycle changing so much from the comics but the MCU still deciding "let's get along with it anyway". Ant Man being a founding member of the avengers and Ultron's dad and both of those movies came and went with no Ant Man in sight. Then so much time passed that the only way to integrate him was as Scott Lang rather than Hank Pym, so a bunch of Pym's interesting stories like becoming Yellowjacket are thrown out now, and so is Wasp being any sort of significant member of the MCU because she couldn't be introduced until the second Ant Man.
as far i know, audiences were okay with it.
imagine if chris pines character touched wonder woman in the same way peg is touching cap, everybody would be calling for the writers and directors and shit to resign and stuff
Imagine caring about what twitter has to say.
uhh im a social media (blue check mark) influencer, okay??? i have to care what twitter says.
ugh. i bet youre a fucking straight white male.
Captain Marvel over Ms Marvel
Valkyrie is not a blonde alien with 1.80 and super athletic body
And that's important, we're talking about Marvel's galactic universe
Diversity is natural in that galactic universe, but in this case shows the ignorance of these producers
Ms Marvel symbolizes the muscular, physical and mental explosion of the American athletes of the 70s and 80s
Only those who did not grow up seeing sports dislike athletic women wearing leotards
Once again a new Spider villain knows his identity and is close to his family.
I really do not want to see the same story being told over and over again
After waiting decades, we do not have the pleasure of seeing the blonde Gwen, the redhead MJ and the Osborns with curly hair
Curly hair?
Imagine if the producers will allow it?
The worst thing they do is want to deconstruct something that exists at 50, 70 years
The only thing that should be done is adapt to the present day
Probably the original will be the villain of Shang Chi
Cast a actress with that spetacular body
and put only baggy clothes on her
>pissed Yea Forums off the most?
Everything Iron Fist, if that even counts anymore.
Forget that the scene where she shoots Steve while he's holding the vibranium shield just to "test it out" all because she was mad that Steve made out with Natalie Dormer despite the fact that Steve was not in a relationship with her made me think she was a cunt.
Also SHIELD hired Zola to work with them most possibly during her tenure as Director, then again no Director of SHIELD has their hands clean.
Kevin Feige favorite body style for actresses
>dumbing down scarlet witchs powers
Scarlet witch has retarded powers that are practically limitless though. A powerset like hers from the comics literally cannot exist in a story that has decent writing because they are so broken.
Don't really care much to be pissed off but I did find some of the stuff they did pretty disappointing even though some I understood why it was done and others it was just them being lazy or doing it just because.
Age of Ultron was possibly the worst offender especially since it only affected Civil War and then no one gave a shit about what happened there. Whedon should have been gone after the Avengers.
This is not MCU
''Peter'' Parker.
Fuck MCU Spidey and everybody who likes him.
Thanos being in love with death was always really stupid and cringe though.
I guess there are still teenagers who prefer incel Thanos though.
MAR-VELL
You know some Africans believe in astral plane or whatever the fuck it is and talking to their ancestors, right? Literally ask a Zimbabwean about it, with their spirit animals and that bullshit. Every time I try talk to my friend about it, he just starts jerking off the culture and spirit bullshit instead of critiquing the movie and the characters.
>what did the MCU do different than the comics that pissed Yea Forums off the most?
These casts would never happen if Marvel were in control
I dont give a shit that Valkyrie is black I was personally dissapointed that they chose, of all the black actresses, one of the absolute worst currently working.
>After waiting decades, we do not have the pleasure of seeing the blonde Gwen, the redhead MJ and the Osborns with curly hair Curly hair?
We've seen all of that?
Wait for an asslet She-Hulk my friends
at least they should be in great shape
but the MCU has come to a point that they just put any one there that will work
Any critique you might have has been repeated ad nauseum.
>story about a country that allowed the countries around it that share an ethnic and cultural bond to get fucked over by slavery and colonialism for centuries
>gets rightfully called out for it
>moral of the story is to not go so far in revenge as to become like the people that have wronged you
>B-BUT THAT ONE WHITE GUY HAD TROUBLE FLYING THE PLANE THE EVIL SJWS TRIGGERED ME I NEED A SAFE SPACE
I'll never understand how people get roped into the /pol/ mindset.
Ant-Man in the comics was always boring and forgettable, and the Wasp was just as bad.The Yellowjacket storyline was also the piece of garbage that cemented Hank Pym as a wife-abuser in the minds of casuals everywhere. At least the MCU has a chance to wipe that stain from Pym's reputation, which he never deserved in the first place.
Oh, boy
>Combining mandarin and Extremis stories in Ironman 3 and gave worse version of both.
>Hank pym becoming an old mentor character instead of founding member. And top of that Ultron is created by Tony . Good thing they didn't change that in comics.
>Hawkeye being a family man in farm. They put Mocking bird in trash which AOS gladly picked.
>Spiderman's entire cast is different. There is no many familiar members. the ones who we know are drastically changed. like Flash and MJ and Ned.
>We initially hated Ancient one announcement. But we liked Tilda since she acted just like ancient one . She is different only in race and gender. Characteristics are same. Unlike MJ and Flash.
> Mar-vell
>Carol
I don't like zoomer spiderman.
Spiderman is an incel nerd that got superpowers.
Stop taking that away from me.
I don't like him when he has friends and shit like a regular normie zoomer bitch.
Gunn intentionally butchering the Nova Corps because he didn’t like them. GotG changed a lot of things really, but that was the only one that stung
Mainly the changes they made in Spider-Man Homecoming. I am very much a purist when it comes to Spider-Man. The two big ones are replacing Uncle Ben with Tony Stark as Peters mentor and making a new love interest called Michelle but for some reason she is now called MJ? Why is she being called MJ when she is a totally new character? So fucking stupid, if you want to do Mary Jane then do her. If you want a new love instead then do that. Don't try and do both at once.
Does Universal still own Hulk? I thought that was the reason he can't get a solo movie.
He didnt butcher it. There is still potential . Gunn just dont want to do Nova , because of that asshole journalist harrassing him for Nova and asked his readers to harras Gunn.
yeah they own all film rights to him and I think she hulk so they won't ever do stand alones for them which is a shame cause it'd be cool to see the leader in a proper movie
They don't "own" Hulk, they just own the distribution rights.
Terrance Howard wanted more money
He is. He's gonna get the kill on Thanos and then he'll say "What? You didn't see that coming?"
Howard not only wanted more money, he wanted more money than fucking RDJ was getting. And RDJ was only getting his insane stacks of cash because Marvel Studios agreed to a % deal instead of flat rates because they didn't see the cultural explosion of the MCU coming.
>when you're not alone in a chestlet world
I was mad about Gunn changing Xandar and the Nova Corp but after watching Captain Marvel, the baseline for motherfucking dick rider was born.
They never showed Xandar getting fucked for the power stone.
They can easily insert a Nova Prime Dick Riding origin in there with the power stone like that stupid cunt got hers from the space stone.
Damn, you made me remember. I'd honestly rather have an Iron Fist movie than a Shang-Chi movie. And if they wanted an Asian lead, they could've just racebent Danny.
I just want an Iron Fist movie somewhere between a martial arts movie and battle shonen in terms of tone.
I've given up on a fair discussion of BP on this board, user. It's really sad but that's how it is.
It's okay user. Lots of people are fucking retards. You have tons of peers
>After waiting decades, we do not have the pleasure of seeing the blonde Gwen, the redhead MJ and the Osborns with curly hair
Aren't all those already in movies?
>They never showed Xandar getting fucked for the power stone.
Apparently it was part of the plan but cut for running time
Judging by Captain Marvel I bet they'll make the Nova Force out of the power stone.
Not in the same movie
And never with the Osborns with that curly hair from comics
It has a gold material from the 70's and they never used it
I expected something spectacular from the MCU space universe
The Krees are just actors with blue paint on their face and the Skrulls...
I believe that Kevin Feige is no longer the person who should command the creative part of the MCU
His vision is very limited, the actors do not do the action scenes
the aliens wear baggy clothes, they look like aliens costumes from that tv show from the 60's Lost in Space
conceptual artists are making exactly the same worlds
Without competition the MCU is delivering fucking nothing
Hulk is seen as an actual fucking monster of a man, what is the comparison here?
How else are the Skrulls supposed to look? Makeup wise, they seem spot on
>Tony Stark being the key to everything
I really didn't like this. You have so much stuff for Tony to be part of and that leaves very little for other characters.
Gunn didn't butcher the fucking Nova Corps, they were portrayed almost exactly as they were back when Rich was the only one that had powers.
>I was mad about Gunn changing Xandar and the Nova Corp
He didn't change them. Read a Nova comic older than Annihilation.
user, regardless of whether or not you liked it, it WAS the very first mainstream Afrofuturist movie and in that, it was pretty significant. I know you have to put on your internet blackface routine on for Yea Forums though.
People join /pol/ for the same reason they would join ISIS/Al Qaeda. Young men with no place for them to belong anywhere else in the world will unite, just to be a part of something and feel human. Man is a social animal, and that will always overpower the logic of any weak-willed individual.
Not sure if it's Disney or Sony sabotaging Disney, but I didn't like "Michelle Jones." I liked Zendaya's character, and I don't give a shit if they made a black Mary Jane Watson (so long as she's a redhead that looks better than Starfire in Titans), but why the fuck make an OC character and give her a nickname overlapping with a "classic" character's?
Also, I'd love to see the Paki as Agent Venom
They should not look like someone with makeup.
If not entirely in CG, at least be creative
And that's what MCU is missing
Everything is generic, Skrulls could have a different walk, more skinny
What I miss right now is a bit of creativity
They are just picking up the characters and puting on the big screen without creativity
Ultron was the biggest problem for me
I like sports a lot, I grew up reading comics, watching sports and practicing sports
I am sad to see actresses like Gal Gadot and Brie Larson not working hard to look like Captain Marvel and Wonde Woman of comics
Forget the agenda, I'm talking more about female pride here
First of all I think they failed to bring the super athlete side that has always been seen in the super heroes from comics
I was very disappointed with them
I do not know if I ever go to the cinema to see any capeshit anymore
"All I ever wanted was to be like you"
I still haven't watched Age of Ultron because of it. It was ultimately just Whedon bending over to Fox and saying we can't compete. Easy way out. Think of how Pietro could have affected Civil War.
In Infinity War Thanos just freezes him with the Time Stone
I wish we got Comic Star Lord and Gamora. I miss Bug. I like MCU Drax more than Comic Drax. MCU Rocket and Groot are awesome. MCU Mantis is qt as fuck. I loved the cynical Star Lord. He needs his Helmet. Gamora's so boring in GOTG.
They're just looking out for their careers sadly, Jessica Biel had a hard time getting roles after getting even moderately buff after Blade: Trinity.
Gwen was in Spider-Man 3
Pretty much all the villains. A lot of them are written to be wildly different like said and to only show up in one film where even if they don't die they're in MCU limbo. Some do well enough to make up for it though like Ego, Vulture and Thanos.
Lack of scale and complete stripping of major themes for Civil War, basically downgraded into a bromance triangle.
The Civil War comic was so shit that I was fine with this.
This is a weird one considering how easy it is to fix. Like a throwaway line about Tony using some Pym AI that went awry a long time ago for Ultron. But Marvel seems hellbent on ignoring certain aspects of AoU.
MCU version of the core conflict made more sense.
I loved all those changes
What did you mean by this?
>what did the MCU do different than the comics that pissed Yea Forums off the most?
Was popular with normies.
>he will be also replaced with Happy Hogan in Far From Home
It's what I'm dreading most in an otherwise anticipated movie
That's very different from what you said before. Doing something because you want to emulate someone is not the same as doing something to impress them. If Peter wanted to impress Tony Stark, he would have done what Tony asked, but he wanted to be a hero.
>For me, it was making every movie a comedy
Fucking this. I hate how every scene that some way serious it has to cut off by fucking quip.
Fuck off, casual. How can you make that movie any less stupid if they would have included Death?
I'm surprised that nerds didn't freak out more over Annette Bening being Mar-Vell.
Then leave, normalfag.
no u
There's potential to make Star-Lord punished after Endgame, Bug couldn't be used by Gunn because of legal rights with the Micronauts. Ditto about Gamora but it looks like she might not even come back and with Thanos done her arc is pretty much over.
Some people got upset but in my case I fucking knew they were going to pull some shit to downplay Mar-Vell or fuck him over somehow and I was never expecting him to be anything like he was in the comics. So I really didn't have any expectations to get upset over.
Also apparently he was going to be in the movie as a guy but the female Director had the idea to combine his character with Helen Cobb's character. Before she did that Feige said they were casting for male actors and were thinking of having Brad Pitt play Mar-Vell.
Oh my god I was just reminded of that fucking rumor with Happy Hogan's middle name being Ben but I honestly wouldn't put it past Marvel Studios doing something like that.
Although if it does happen it would be enough to piss off a few normies that I know.
You perfectly sum my thoughts up. That's also why I only love Phase 1 (fuck Avengers though), WS, and a bit of BP
So Brad Pitt's only capeshit role is that invisible guy in Deadpool 2
Tony Stark
Kill Quicksilver
Malekith
Zemo
Strucker
Most if not all needless villain changes really.
1. Have shitty Thor movies
2. Living in a world free of consequences
Age of Ultron
> Messing around for no longer than a week
Civil War
> parring in an airport because half the gang won't sign a damn paper
Ragnarok
> oh god
Infinity War
> "would you kill somebody because you love them?: the movie"
Everything Spider-Man (except when fighting in a Russo's film)
Everything Taika Waititi
Hulk never a hero, never fighting bad guys as strong as him, everytime on screen to be a problem for his allies more than an asset
> "would you kill somebody because you love them?: the movie"
>Would you care if we killed someone that you already know has written a contract for at least five more moves
I feel insulted that they are trying to pull at your heartstrings with Peter's death
>has never read a spider-man comic
Only us spergs care about muh contract shit faggot
literally turn your brain off for that part sperg.
- Making Ego into a "Celestial"
- Baby Groot in general
- The Sovereign not being directly tied to the Universal Church of Truth anymore
- Starhawk being a regular space pirate, while the rest of his crew were comic book accurate
- Not giving Mar-Vell any powers and making her (don't mind the gender swap) just a scientist
- Eternals dying over some petty resource issue despite being so technologically advanced (though this might be Thanos lying)
- Xandarian corps pretty much just mall cops, no Nova Force, no Worldmind
- Killing off Klaue and Killmonger in a single movie
- Killing off Minn-Erva
- Killing off Ronan
- Nerfing the fuck out of the Cull Obsidian aside from Ebony Maw
There are ultimately a lot of visual choices and references I like from the movies, but some decisions make the universe feel smaller than it should be.
Same (I still wanted to like it but I was worried about the reviews), though I'd keep in mind we only saw a portion of refugee Skrulls anyway, they're definitely not all innocent.
I like this idea quite a bit.
The Kree are literally humanoids with blue paint though. How are you this casual? They have no external physiological differences with humans and are often indistinguishable when they aren't blue.
In Agents of SHIELD they gave them distinctive patterns but they were still blue and that's how they should be. Blame Star Trek for that decades old trend, but that's how it is in the source material.
>Shafting Adam Warlock for MUH CAROL
>Doing nothing with Howard
>Just everything about Avengers 2
>Ruining Star-Lord and Ego
At first she was rumored to be THE Supreme Intelligence so I was bothered by that, but when I saw the movie and realized she technically was only the projection they chose for it (cleverly hiding the green head), I thought it was okay. The actual gender swap was obviously going to happen since this happened in the comics.
>Shafting Adam Warlock for MUH CAROL
Dude he was never gonna be part of the movie, they had already set up for GOTG3 as part of the Universal Church of Truth plot (in which he becomes the Magus, their own hero/villain combo).
How did this piss anyone off?
jesus christ this is a casual ass post
Giving Caps' speech from Civil War to a token womyn side character.
>Casual
Want me to post my GOTG/Cosmic collection?
I wish he was still in the toy box, so to speak, but speedsters are always a problem to write around, and I guess redemption in a heroic death is better than Fox's Quicksilver's "ok, time to walk out of the movie"
Janet is a rare character in that she's probably the only character worse than Carol Danvers. Making her a heroic but old woman, absent for most of the story is an improvement.
Black staining Valkyrie instead of introducing a legit black superhero
One can only speculate, but hadn't all the Wright troubles happened, and had Ant-Man been in Phase 1 as originally planned, maybe they would have done Ultron better, with Hank replacing Banner in his creation.
Also the Ant-Man movies themselves would have been better under Wright.
Degrading Mar-Vell and fem washing him into an old lady
I don't so much mind making him into an old woman, but that she's not a hero that inspired Carol, she's just an engineer that got shot.
For all that the movie tells you that Lawson was important to Carol, there's no sign of it in their interactions. Mar-Vell is no longer what inspired Carol to become a hero, instead s/he's just a "huh" in Carol's story, like everyone else.
>The MCU has cemented superheroes as clowns for countless future generations. Just monkeys in suits dance battling for the purpose of creating more internet memes
That is literally what they always were, and you're a fool for believing otherwise. Superman's entire concept was based off of fucking circus showman for fucks sake. Superheroes are inherently cartoonish, they have to be in order for their entire concept to even function.
>cramming in Planet Hulk references into Thor: Ragnarok, closing the door on ever getting a proper adaptation of the story
The door was closed when they made The Incredible Hulk. They signed a co-financing deal with Universal that means Universal gets some control over all future Hulk movies. Feige and Ruffalo have said they wanted to make another Hulk solo, but Universal is being stubbon over who gets the profit.
The Snyderverse did WAY more damage to the idea of "serious" heroes than the MCU ever did. BvS, SS, and JL had such massive blowback that no one is going to want to go near that concept again.
2 of the biggest are both from Captain Marvel.
1. Skrulls
2. Supreme Intelligence.
And Fury's eye
Dumbing down =/= powering down.
>trying to save innocent refugees of war from becoming captured and put to death or captured and tortured
>not a Hero
She's not really in it enough for it to matter. Although that does also mean there was even less point changing the sex.
>cleverly hiding the green head
Piss off.
They are popular.
>this is what Raimifags want to believe.
Much better than denying its existence altogether or changing its appearance, yes. Sorry this bothers you so much.
>changing its appearance
is what they did. By not giving it a real appearance. Just think how many ways they had to do something that was basically 'a green head/face', instead of just pussying out of doing ANYTHING.
Brie is gonna go Lesbian for the sake of it.
We're all pissed user, but its not a hill worth dying on, or even walking to anymore.
underrated
Fury's eye was Rian Johnson-tier shit. It retroactively makes the 'Keep both eyes open' thing laughable. Captain Marvel really should have been much better considering how cool the Skrulls and Kree can be and what the Supreme Intelligence should look like.
I'm guessing Ronan's 'Grr, we'll come back for the girl!' means he'll either be a bad guy in the sequel that also takes place between the Captain Marvel and Endgame or the Krees will come back to Earth after Endgame.
This was apparently not scripted, lol. Based roastie
This is why I unironically watch Super Sentai.
It actually gets real and uplifting despite being power rangers' source material and a toy commercial.
When did she ever dress like a stripper?
Can't really think of much aside from how Quicksilver was bitched out so hard for the sake of drama. I'm just glad that Captain America of all characters to be well-liked all over the world because of the MCU.
