I believe that snake people started appearing in Conan in the Marvel comics, followed by the movie, the D&D adventures in the 80s and the 90s cartoon.

Which shows how both titles have very little in common with Roy Thomas' run of Conan, in which he kept pretty close to the novels.
This new Conan have no pulp novel tone to it, which is kind of sad imo. Both titles are fast passed adventures comic bookie style. I know Marvel already covered all the novels during the original Barbarian and Savage Sword and the writers now don't feel like doing that again but I don't know, I kinda wish they did anyway.

I seriously don't want them to revisit the original novels AGAIN. I'd rather they make new stories, but ideally keeping with the spirit of the original material.

For you it wouldn't be as fun but literally every conversation I had to about this new Conan run the other guy starts with "I'm not that familiar with Conan but". I'm guessing it would be a new thing for most potential readers. If they started with a good adaptation of a novel it would set the tone for the character.
But I get they don't want to do that. I mean this Conan is to be integrated into Marvelverse where he hangs around with witches, sorcerers and an alien. Real Conan would just stay as far away as possible from that stuff.
