R&S was influential because it followed up on the 80's era of animation where every cartoon was strictly on-model because they were made to sell toys.
John K was one of the first of a new wave of "creator-driven" cartoons, and he took pride in his absurdist, off-model animations, which would help to define the following generation of animations.
Even if R&S doesn't hold up today, animation would be in a very different place if it was never made.

Went from a nice little webcomic that had some interesting story lines building up and managed to get a sensible chuckle out of me every few pages... To one of the most boring porn comics I've ever read.

Alan Moore lost a lot of my respect for Neonomicon but regained a good amount for Providence. I think like most artists he's just not that great when he's not trying. League of Extraordinary Gentleman got real "old man yells at cloud" as time went on too. Both that and Neonomicon lacked a lot of the research and care Moore usually puts into things to give frankly childish interpretation of other works Moore either didn't care for or about. Providence dialed this back somewhat and was a much more interesting engagement with Lovecraft's works and settings.

Dark Horse is mostly licenses at this point, they didn't bother to keep cultivating an actual catalog of new stuff. A lot of the shit Dark Horse is known for is either 15+ years old comics or series that have left the publisher. The only notable success they've had recently is Black Hammer, and that hardly set the industry on fire.

Case in point, Madman has been published by Image for about 5 years or so.

Novelist obviously are the most skilled in the usage of their prose because that's all they work with, they spend years to develop their particular styles and mannerism and gather ideas, mangakas/comic book writters use more images than words as their storytelling tool, therefore they can't be as skilled in that regard

According to a certain investigation developed by Marvel when they were trying to get into the Japanese market (adapting their comics to manga), they discovered that while manga are designed as a movie, they are supposed to be "seen" while the comics are designed to be "read" (that's why comics aren't popular in Japan, because people there think that the characters in these books "talk too much"), thus a comic writer technically should be more talented or skillful than a mangaka who is specialized in images and scenes.

Then... comic writers are simply bad.

This is what frustrated me the most in my most recent re-reading of Spawn. There were some good ideas here and there but McFarlane is a shit writer with an attention span of an insect. He'd just set something up and then drop it so he could do something cool he saw on TV that week, only to drop it a few issues later because he saw something even cooler.
If only he had written some storylines and let a proper writer do the actual writing, it could've been a decent comic.
