I don't think I got mad over it. It's a dumb, cheap joke that the show acknowledges is a dumb, cheap joke. The problem was how many people went around screaming I'M PICKLE RIIIIIICK for fucking months after the fact with absolutely no self-awareness of how fucking dumb they were being.

It was a solid episode in terms of self-parody. "I turned myself into a pickle, what wild adventures will this lead to?" is like a caricature of the show, and in the actual episode this is immediately revealed to be an excuse to get out of family counseling.
But PICKLE RIIIICK was used in marketing like a year ahead of time without the other shoe dropping on the "it was all an excuse to miss counseling". It just seemed like the epitome of cheap flanderization and forced memery.
