How is it so far?

Meh
No the best, but not the worst

Seems ok, if not having a touch of "all black people talk about is dated black pop culture references."

Which I guess might be true? It just felt a little weird like Luke Cage.

Its actually good. Eve is defining the character well

Better than Bendis.
Waaaaay scaled down on giving the character sloppy worship blowjobs.

But nothing truly new or unique.

>Better than Bendis
That’s a pretty low bar to pass.

I still can't accept how the planets aligned to give freaking Bendis so much power.

Of course the Ultimate Line did well, it was all about putting well known characters in weird situations they could not survive with a lot of 90s violence and cursing.

It doesn't mean the man has the touch to come up with good new characters or even how to write existing characters well following established canon and characterization.

But he has the editorial momentum to do as he fucking likes and the publicity push to sell. He creates a character and it is immediately advertised as the next best thing and put everywhere.

Pretty good but sales are also bombing so expect it to get cancelled by issue 12 unless something changes.

Marvel honestly just needs to start putting all these new characters in proper limited series before headlining them in ongoings that get canned almost immediately, helps keep the story concise and build good will for the characters after the train wreck that usually makes up their origin story and it's better for the writers since instead of being told to map out this many issues and be ready to cross over with some event and then inevitably told it's cancelled thems the breaks they can just write 1 story over 100 pages.

It could be worse: it could be written by Tom King, Chuck Austen, Gabby Rivera, Ya Boi Zack or Vox Day.

>gabby
I miss us hatereading America together

Truly Heartwarming.

>Tom King worse than Bendis
You can't be serious.

Bendis was good when he had editors and couldn't do what he wanted. We've seen this plenty of time with great writers are suddenly given more freedom and can call their own shots.

>It's Iron Man, but, get this.. as a jive-talking spunky black teenage girl who don't need no man!
>Meh.. Don't we already have a black Iron Man?
>Yeah but that's a black Iron Man MAN, not a black Iron Man WOMAN. Besides we'll just kill Rhodie so as not to dilute the market. We can always bring him back later because nothing means anything in comics.
HOUSE OF IDEAS, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!

This

The first issue was surprisingly solid but I haven't bought or read anymore.

Isn't there a Captain Marble thread you should be sperging in right now?

I would say they are both as bad in different ways.
Except for a total disregard for previous characterization.

What they need is a shonen jump format that gets you all the hot new heroes in one book at a decent price.
Gets people reading more than they would if they pay out the ass for every floppy of some nobody they never heard of.

I don't understand why their origin stories are always such massive shits

real good, Ewing has pacing down pretty well, better than Coates alrady

For one, a jive-talking, R.E.S.P.E.C.T. demanding momma would have been more interesting than Bendis talking about how awesome his daughters are and how everybody has to love them.
Second, there is a black girl Iron Woman already, Bendis just needs all the dosh and none of the required reading.

The limited series sell really badly though. Case in point: Cebulski invested whole hog in minis during this weird transition phase between EiC, and a few of them are selling fairly badly, even for characters that have done well otherwise.

As a kid I loved Ultimate Spiderman just cause it was retelling the story from the start. Even as a kid I knew that issue 800 of the same story was not gonna be good, but I loved seeing reigmaginings of classic characters like Doc Ock.
When it got really edgey and "90s violent" I dropped it

They still think they can force popularity, rather than letting it grow naturally

always baffles me how literally everyone is able to write in a good way a Bendis' OC besides Bendis himself.

I've seen actual people using the term latinx now.

I want to have sex with her armour

Don't forget Aaron and Slott

This design is fucking awful

Bendis has never cared about whether a new character he creates is good. Having created a new character at all is his goal from the start.

He's been pretty unambiguous about making new characters instead of using functionally identical existing ones because he wants the royalties if the run becomes popular. You also have to remember that Marvel comics is basically the focus group for new MCU properties, so he really was just shotgunning out new characters in the hopes that one of them would stick and make it into the movies and he would make a load of money.

Someone else can make them good later. Thats not his priority. His priority is that, if the character ever becomes popular, it has 'created by Bendis' written under it when the credits roll.

Honestly limited series need to be about selling as trades and not floppies. Get stuff like a 5 or 6 issue trade, make sure it's good and not something like the America Chavez book, then get it on library and book store shelves to get new people into comics.

It's because Bendis showed them how NOT to write the character. Just do the opposite of what Bendis did, and you're gold.

I still think Zub's Riri is the best, though. Ewing's Riri is more human and relatable, but Zub's is more autistic, weird and entertaining.

I like that Ewing Riri has some pretty huge trauma over the whole Thanos thing.

Pretty much this.

I like her new suit, though. Far more distinct than her last one and the colors work well.

>Zub's
Where does he write riri?

When will she bone Viv?

Pretty awful.

It's alright so far
