My theory before the 700 years old thing happened was that PB's brain got all jacked up by the candy people mass she had to use to age up (specifically Pepbutt's since he's got dark magic coursing through him) and it made her less easily able to deal with the trauma of being exposed to the Lich's mind for as long as she was.

Odd as it is, the only real issue I have with Breezy is the episode felt too boring for one with plot relevance. LSP's rape of Finn was the only massive what the flying-Gob-with-a-flaming-sword-up-his-ass moment of the episode.
But I can't say I consider the episode itself as rage breakingly bad, just sort of meh.
A better way to have done that would've been to use whoever Finn's new love interest would've been instead of a one-ff character.

The problem with Breezy is that the lesson about it is very confusing, he was sad because he can't stop of thinking in his two lost romantic interests then suddenly he has this weird vision about one of his old romantic interests and he is fine again.
But avoiding that part, the episode showed to the public a version of Finn and the general story what the fandom simply didn't want to watch, Finn is terribly sad and he can't do anything but begin to act like huh... well he begins to "date" with many women because he doesn't know how to be happy again and no one close to him cares about it enough to help him (including Jake). The episode is depressive because Finn acts like a character who has fell very deep being LSP moment the cherry on the top. That's fine for Bojack Horseman's fandom but AT's fandom wanted to see something a little more "pure" than these kind of stories.
Believe user, this episode killed a part of the fandom.

Finn didn't need a new romantic interest, in fact everyone wanted to see him recovering FP or beginning a new relationship with Marceline (the only one who never had a romantic relationship with the hero between the three main girls) and that's fine, that's the correct way to manage this plot. Why? Because our hero committed a mistake and now he needs to learn a lesson about it, now his more mature version is supposed to return with his old girlfriend, it's a simple plot. But CN decided to keep making it complicated and writers had conflicts about it (specially Xayaphone when it comes to FP).
I'm trying to be objective here and... well once you wrote FP in the story you simply can't replace her, because you have created the story of a fight for Finn where he needs to defy his own nature to reach a happy ending with his new romantic interest and this kind of plot can't conclude without them being together because the contrary implies a bad end and disappointment for the audience.

Oh I don't doubt what it did to the fandom. I was only sharing my own thoughts about the episode.
After Frost and Fire I was already on the fence about the show, but then we got episodes like The Pit and the season finale in the citadel.
Then Breezy rolls around and I'm like "that's how they get back to status quo? That's weak." but I kept going since usually there would still be good episodes.
Then Furniture & Meat happens and I came to the realization that the show just didn't bring me joy anymore. I ended up dropping it and didn't catch back up with it until the Islands arc and even then I lost track of it again after that because of the horrible scheduling and didn't catch back up again until shortly before the finale.
Well, there's always fanart and fanfiction I guess.

It's fun because The Citadel was the episode that definitively convinced me to watch the show (I was really skeptical about it because the design was ugly to me) and I began to watch the old seasons, but when I compared it with episodes like Furniture and Meat I immediately recognize that something was very different, it's like the adventure like spirit inside the story was subtly replaced by a more like Jerk-episodic model. You know that kind of stories where the characters act like idiots and they put themselves in many problems.
I dropped for a while too then I watched Stakes (I hated it because status quo) and season 7, it was really terrible. The problem with Islands is that Finn is dead already when it began and still it's the most emotional part of the show after season 6.

On another note, I'm honestly glad at least Simon is free from the crown and I know opinions are mixed on that.

The only source that I have is that apparently McHale had another ending for OTGW in which Wirt stays in the unknown but Greg returns to home, McHale considers it a happy ending too. According to a certain OTGW's fan who analyze this story, it seems like McHale being a Madman wanted to create a trilogy about OTGW just like the original divine comedy (three books) but many factors made it impossible (he doesn't have the rights of OTGW because CN rejected his new project related to this story) and now he is trying to continue the story using other characters and a new project (there is a hint to this in Distillatoria, observe the moons).
It seems like Wirt effectively was supposed to stay in the unknown and begin a family with Beatrice... I know that it sounds very weird... but McHale apparently has been hitting it in his twitter for a while.
