While it's true that SU resolves most of its conflicts by talking (not incredibly compelling but not the worst way to handle things, imho) at least it shows the characters suffering from making bad decisions and characters telling each other how and why what they did was wrong. sometimes it even goes on for more than one episode, forming mini arcs.

I haven't watched all of Star VS, so maybe I'm wrong, but everytime she did something incredibly stupid in an episode, at best she was scolded a bit by Marco and then they go being friends as always, and no one addresses the property damage or the hurt she caused to other people. it's just unbelievable and, like I said, it made the show feel boring and inconsequential to me.

and I'm not against cartoons being just silly sheningans, but Star is not Unikitty, the writers clearly want us to emphatize with those characters, but their world feels empty to me.

Also the greg/amethist situation helped Steven understand that adults can behave Ike idiots too (and that's a part of growing up), and set up Amethist's loneliness and self doubt, thraits that helped understand her later character arc.
It wasn't "resolved" because it didn't need resolving, that episode was preparing the ground for later character interactions.

Opening a portal only helps if you know where you're going, so they didn't use the scissors when looking for Moon. Though there's certainly still the "why didn't they grab her and open a portal as soon they found her?" issue.

But in general the writers of this show prefer to just not acknowledge the "they can just make a portal" factor unless the plot specifically requires portals.

The buildup in S2 really made it seem like Toffee would be the main villain of the whole S3, and had everybody wondering how the show would mix wacky adventures with a war for control of Mewni. Instead they just killed off Toffee in a mere 4 episodes and the rest of S3 not only didn't have any real threat until the very end of the season, it also was lacking in fun wacky adventures.

It's become the accepted narrative in entertainment for decades now that keeping fans frustrated with "will the or won't they" is the same thing as keeping fans invested, and that somehow giving fans what they want will make them leave instead of make them come back to get more of what they want.

Is dragon prince the next best chance for this? Reyla and Callum seem to be working towards that, but they also lack the raw attachment and support that Star and Marco have shown

A "will they/won't they" thing CAN keep audiences invested, but only if it doesn't drag out for too long. If you keep it going for too long then fans will stop caring whether the pair "will" or "won't". You have to make it at least FEEL to the audience like it's getting closer to a resolution. If you do too many false starts happening for too long, then the audience will realize they're just getting strung along and give up.
