Second Chronological Mignolaverse storytime thread of the day!
It was around this time last we had this discussion, and I want to have it again: what the hell is Lobster Johnson? No one else is so dedicated to Justice, and he constantly shrugs off everything, including fucking death, to see it done.
Also, Kate best character always.
Also this is the third thread not the second
Living spirit of Justice
Revenant
Lobster is one of those guys whose story isn't finished yet, even though we know the ending(s). Like Anders, there's a solid chunk we haven't been told, and we may end up twiddling our thumbs trying to figure it out for years.
That said, besides his incredible endurance, the claw mark he uses is a bit strange. If it's a mundane but advanced bit of gear? There's no equipment for heating up the mark, nor enough insulation to protect his own palm. He also goes out of his way to only mark the guilty, even when he's not the one to kill them. According to research the reporter did, he may have ancestry in shapechangers, which implies a level of magical ability may be with him. Reciprocal charms/pacts can provide even a mundane person with incredible luck and durability, as seen in Crimson Lotus.
I think that the Lobster inherited some mystical knowledge and is using it to fuel his campaign for justice. The dead he marks with his claw provide him power, but he's careful to never mark an innocent (souls have power in the Mignola-verse... but it's not good for them to be used like that). We also saw Baba Yaga fuel Koschei, already deathless through his own magic, into a seemingly unstoppable behemoth by fueling him with souls.
I think that the Lobster has a sort of invulnerability, luck-factor or regeneration that's powered by the ritual he performs with the unrighteous dead. He keeps acting out justice, and in return he gets... in gaming terms, temporary HP, which is expended as he tanks explosions or bullets or whatever. He'll wear armor and take cover, because he doesn't want to risk running out and being strictly mortal to the shot that comes next. After his death, he uses that "stored hp" to temporarily become solid/real despite being a ghost, or to forcefully possess people.
>The dead have nothing...
>Not even their secrets.
i honestly can't believe it ends next month
>Johann steadily transforming back into the sickly scholar of his original life
Nice.
Panya's a real bitch at this this point, isn't she? Guess she resents the fact that she's still being confined and isolated.
So that WAS Panya in Liz's earlier dream!
You deserve this Devon.
I have a friend called Devon who looks exactly like him and for some reason he doesn't like me reminding him that the character is such a bitch.
Hahah! Call back.
Bruno, just immediately using his Chad sense to lock in on Kate.
Kate is a damn fine woman
Klaus got friendzoned
Short thread to keep the next big set together

Tier-2 BPRD soldiers! Finally got that R&D project finished. Gotta keep up the tech tree, or you get swamped by the end game.
Critically underused tactic.
