I think both Raps and Cass have trust issues have to be dealt with. Raps doesn't believe the spear works on the enemy while Cass doesn't believe Raps can control the moon magic.

When Adira did it Raps merely sucked the life out of things around her. When Cass touched her she specifically sucked up the energy of that evil tree thing.

Rapunzel couldn't stop using the moon magic, it wasn't a question of her not trusting Cassandra. Cass is loyal to her but feels overlooked, ignored and a third wheel.

Just watched it and man the hour long specials for this show are so good.

I loved that he actually beat Adira in a straight fight.

Rapunzel has problem thinking everything will just go her way and will be alright, and Cassandra has problems putting faith in that

Loved the special. Both of the songs were great. "Buddy" was vintage Menken magic. Hector was a great villain, and I'm tickled pink that his edgy donut steel animal companions are WOLVERINES, and not wolves.

And once again, Rapunzel made a decision that left a friend scarred and hardened against her.

Was the tree is still controlled by Zhan Tiri when Hector removed the spear or was it its own thing? It sounded like it was Zhan Tiri trying to kill them, but all it did was restrain the gang.

Tree was a sentient servant of Zhan Tiri going by Adira's story.

"Death magic" withering her hand, I think it will be interesting to see what happens. I don't see how you can ever use the hand again unless a magical cure is found.

Varian will give her a sweet monster hand with a "healing" potion.

He's not in it right now, but Raps' hair does look like his for a moment with blue highlights when using the Moon Incantation. If he does end up having a piece of it connecting him for whatever reason, maybe he could use the healing incantation if Raps can use the moon Incantation. It would be funny if he wound up using it to free his father somehow. It's a reach but who knows.

Why wouldn't you wear a cape with your suit of armor?

Hector beats Adira with some kinds of sneak attack. Normally Adira's skills outperformed him.

Hector may be an enemy of the group, but he is not a full villain based on his purpose. He just obeys King Edmund's dying wish to prohibit anyone from reaching the Dark Kingdom and the opal.

25 years and you're the only person who seems to still care about your Order. Keiran became a family man and abandoned his purpose, and Adira is actively working against everything you all stood for.

Combine all that with his Hiccup voice and this guy has a lot of hidden depths. We may have a new Best Boy in the works.

I wish that they would've brought up the fact that there is a power imbalance between Cassandra and Rapunzel earlier. It's a more interesting angle than just wanting to be captain of the guard.

I thought the same thing, but she's shown flexing it, so who knows.

the amnesia episode has her practicing with her sword and talking about how the hand is a lot weaker now and she has to relearn stuff. later in the episode she uses the sword with her left hand.

I'm getting a little sick of how Cassandra is supposed to be a great fighter when she gets knocked out or beaten down in a couple moves

Obviously Adira and Hector are the master-class warriors. Cass still has a lot to learn in the outer world.

Swordsmanship isn't like being stronger or faster than somebody. It's like being really good at chess. Its really complicated and there's always someone better.

I figured it might have been more neutral since it didn't kill them when it easily could have. Probably due to plot convenience and not letting the heroes get killed. But after rewatching that bit I think you're right about it being Zhan Tiri's tree.

What was the purpose of Demanitus’ spear

It was sealing the tree's dark power.

From what I understood, a hero (this Demanitus?) fought Zhan Tiri or his tree and was able to wound him with it. When Hector intentionally pulled the spear from the tree, it regenerated quickly and tried to kill/possess all of them. So it's a powerful weapon that will no doubt be plot critical at some point to fight the BBEG. I wish Cass had kept it though, magic items belong with a group of adventurers.

Basically put the Tree in a coma, the moment the spear pulled out it woke up and started trying to murder everyone.

Zhan Tiri also seems to want to return to the world, as seen in the episode where the old lady (a servant of his?) hypnotises Rapunzel and has her open a portal. This also means that at some point in the past he was banished from the world to another place (maybe by the Brotherhood?) and wants to get back and despoil things. Maybe Rapunzel's connection to the sundrop makes her able to bring him back, but also grants her the power to stop him for good? Similiar to Korra and the portals at the world's poles in her series.

They're on their way to the Dark Kingdom to deal with the Moonstone, a opal with the opposite power of the sundrop flower that originally gave Rapunzel her powers.

the tl;dr for it is that Rapunzel was getting used to being a princess again when Cass decided to help get her spirits up by showing something cool which ended up being the place the king grabbed the flower from and it re-enchanted her hair but also caused indestructible black spikes to start coming out of the ground destroying the entire country side over the course of season 1. Season 2 is about following said spikes to find out what's going on.

But seriously go watch the first special and then season 1, 10/10 plot heavy episodes.

We assume the Opal is the result of the Moon Drop but who actually knows at this point

But I doubt the spear can defeat corrupted Hector quickly. Looking back the spear story of Adira, the spear was supposed to stab into the heart of tree to defeat it. Before Hector was corrupted, he had tried to hit the tentacles by the spear but it didn’t work eventually.

There is an upcoming episode leaked i believe called Cassandra's revenge. I'm unsure if it's season 2's finale or one of the specials for season 3.

Maybe he's a Moon person and it only didn't work on him but she still has it.

I'm hoping aspects of the wedding short will be retconned, such as Cass' absence or her hair being gone again. Since the series was a concept at most when the short was made, Cass probably didn't exist yet. She doesn't deserve it, but if she does go it'll probably be to save Rapunzel. That's not saying much, OP, the show so far's been pretty safe and child-friendly.

Some “child-friendly” show like Gravity Falls also has dark moments.

Cass hates and doesnt trust Adira and likes to use a ton of different weapons. She's gonna end the season joining the Brotherhood to keep everyone away from the moon stone and get trained by Hector in proper brutal anything goes fighting.

Gravity Falls had a series of paranormal mysteries leading back to a demon outside of reality trying to conquer existence and bring about the end-times, which it very nearly succeeded at.

So far as I've seen, Tangled the series has one angsty boi and one mystery regarding her hair.

At the very least it doesn't seem to be slowing her down at all.

She kind of is. Her tough girl shtick was fun at first, but it's worn out its welcome and it feels like only now they're actually starting to do something with it. Plus, it's kinda redundant when Rapunzel is arguably a better fighter than her.

There's also the plotpoint that the King had all the criminals in the country either shipped off to a floating gulag or murdered by the secret police. A character watches helplessly as a parent dies a slow suffocating death and becomes a tragic villain, and there's a greater scope demon wizard who possesses people and tries to destroy the world

Rapunzel strength probably comes from the Sundrop and pulling Gothel's fat ass up and down a tower twice a day every day. Cass is a skilled swordswoman, not the best in the world, and it's interesting to see how much see hates Adira, despite her likely becoming her in a decade or two.

This thread piques my interest, and I would like to give this show a shot.

She's a girl who has the sunflower power flowing through her veins. Nothing else, some character see her as just a girl while others see her as a tool.

She seems more like a conduit for all these various powers than anything else. Like, she started with the power of the sun, but because that's how she started she's been opened up for all sorts of stuff.

So just watched the episode.
Why was it such a letdown? Why? Was S1 really just a lucky mistake? The ideas were there but the execution is so weak.
- introducing a strong villain just to dismiss him instantly
- villain has no buildup other than a master swordsman
- funny song in a supposedly serious episode
- negative song is only sang once and get cut right away
- every serious moment is either taken back right away or poorly executed taking away the weight
- literally no punishment for using the negative song other than the hand burn which Cass shrugs off in a minute
- the wording of the negative song is shit except the first line (wither and decay)
- Eugene does nothing to save Raps
+ Cassandra's song is one of the best
+ Cassandra's armored look is awesome

Hector was established as a serious threat to the team this episode, he'll be back. We also got some Brotherhood flashbacks for buildup, which will definetly continue.

Not really Lovecraftian. Lovecraftian would be her learning the sundrop was the blood of Elder God and going mad, or that her healing magic saps her own health and going mad. This is just dark.

She goes to the nearby tavern to process things when she realizes she grew very old in just a few days.

Now she knows what she must do. It will break her heart in her every single waking moment but she has to do it. She has to raise Rapunzel exactly the same to save everything and everyone. She races towards the location of the flower as fast as she can.

Cut scenes about her days as a mom to Rapunzel. Cut scenes how happy is she with her, then how bad she feels for hurting her. Cut scenes as she secretly helps her younger self through the years. The days before Rapunzel's 18th birthday she cries herself to sleep every single night. But she will do it. She may not be the main character, she may not be for achieving amazing things but she will do her part.

I'm a big Fable fan, so I'm used to looking on the bright side with my games. My opinion of Inquisition and Trespasser is a lot like my opinion of Mass Effect 3. Does it rewrite everything we thought we knew about the lore? Yes. Is it a ton of great ideas with some sloppy execution? Yes. Does it take the PC generic leader guy and give them some depth and daresay, pathos? Yes.

My biggest complaint about the series is that each entry seems to be lighter in tone, and Dread Wolf is supposed to be the most optimistic in tone, which is alarming after the sometimes saccharine Inquisition. I know nothing will ever pass the horror and grimdark of finding the Broodmother in the Deep Roads, but I like some dark with my fantasy.

She's thinks that's she's a 3rd wheel in every regard. Rapunzel doesn't need a best friend because she has Eugene. She doesn't need a teacher because she has Adira. Considering that the heart of the Zhan Tiri monster was at the bottom of the chasm, everyone would have likely been squished before she got to stab it with the spear. The conflict in this episode was a real “no one is right or wrong” case and it was interesting to see.

Zachary Levi, Eugene's VA, oozes charisma and charm. You can tell he's having a blast. There's a lot of love put into this show.

S1 had a good balance of plot and fun, S2 just goes funfunfun then some plot. I don't like the S2 way.

The first half of S1 also covers mostly non-plot fun stuff until Queen for day mid-season special and then goes serious afterwards.

Why is it called a mid-season special if it's close to the end of the season?

I keep hearing this but this isn't true. We almost always see the rocks being spooky and expand. There is a constant looming threat. Raps wakes up with her tentacle hairs levitating her several times. In S2 you can forget the entire reason they are travelling.

Fuck, I love me some Eden Espinosa. I haven't seen this show but I might just do it for her.

Before Queen for a day special, the rock stuff was just mentioned twice out of 15 episodes (not counting the pilot). The first is Raps visits Varian’s Lab and the rocks spout out close behind the wall. The second is after the science Expo, Varian brings Raps to see the rocks invading the land inside.

The 3rd season IS the final season though

The third season will have the nude episode.

So what the fuck was up with the graphtyc? Why did Varian ask Rapunzel et al. to get it from his house? That he clearly has access to?

My guess is that he wanted her to try and get it so that she'd be force to go to Old Corona and see the damage. Why? Well I suppose on an emotional level he wants her to witness the damage done - this does make sense since his original plan was to steal the Sun Drop and bring his Dad back himself without her coming back in the first place. The second plan where she has to come to his lab was a response to the flower not working. It also makes a bit of sense considering Varian may believe the King is oblivious due to his Father's lies and not being present during the storm.

Besides the emotional need to demonstrate to Rapunzel what she did, the other consequence of this was that Rapunzel realised her father was lying to her, which primed her to go along with Varian's plan in Return of the Alchemist. If Varian was aware of the rift between Rapps and her father, this would actually be a pretty clever tactic. Did he actually know that the King was lying? I don't think he did and that undermines the whole conceit of the episode.

And, just to be sure, Varian got that graphytc from his father's chest right? Did he react at all to any of the other stuff there? The weird symbols?

A good idea, but I have my doubts. The guards are all healed by the time Varian attacks - he has to incapacitate Cass' father himself. So while your idea is good, it wasn't actually put into practice.

But even then, such a plan would still be contingent on there being a conflict between Raps and the guards. He knows that the guards are government agents (?) and Raps is with the government, so unless he knows about her fight with her dad, he has no reason to assume that they'd fight.

The only way that plan would work would be if he thought that the masked men were thugs planning on moving into the village to pillage it and he wanted someone else to come in and scare them off so he could work in peace.

But of course, if Varian really, truly, desperately needed Raps, why would he ask her for help? If whole fucking problem is that she doesn't fucking help him.

The hair and backgrounds shouldn't be the focus. This gives me an idea. The viewer should be able to control the camera to either focus in on the action or stare at the pretty backgrounds and python-like hair.
