Capitalism is a system where you work for money and exchange it for goods and services. It does not force you to work, it exists because people want something in return for their work, and it's those people valuing their labor that force you to comply. If you don't like that, tough shit, it just means you do not have anything of value to offer or do not wish to participate in trade. Nobody is obligated to help you live, we're just obligated not to interfere with your life as long as you return that favour. Ironically, that in itself is a trade, and not given for free.

Capitalism is a system where you sell your labor in exchange for money. You are forced to undersell it because labor market is so crowded. This allows the capitalist to buy your labor for the cheapest price.

Another thing is if the pie represents something like jobs or bank loans then it's assumed that a more meritocratic system would result in less waste than a less meritocratic system, all other things being equal, resulting in a bigger pie. On the other hand giving big tax cuts to the rich can result in a lot of things but a lot of times it means they can purchase more lobbying power to get laws that favor themselves and actively make the pie more uneven over time.
