Well it certainly didn’t last long

Eliabaal's chapter mentions that there were rumors of distant human kingdoms that "produced miracles, putting water and fire at the service of man, turning mills by force of steam."

This was cool, thanks for storytiming.
Whens the third part?

Is there a third?

Yep there's a third Tome, "Ogres-Dieux 03 - Le Grand Homme". OP mentioned it in the previous thread

Attached: ogresDieuxT3-leGrandHomme.jpg (900x1191, 351K)

Ok, 2 things
How did that happen to his face. The Queen just squeezed his neck
and 2
I can already guess Petit's son and Yori's daughter will be getting together in volume 3.

Is that the Founder and Petit?

Poor Tamas.

F ;_;7

did he bad touch her?

Any place where I can read european comics? Trying to find anywhere that has D-day releases. Really want to read the latest one of theirs

Attached: 21bce2fd5d534945def8e3df1666cecb.jpg (397x527, 59K)

I think its just to focus on how much she looks like him.

>image in a storytime
Stop user.

At least wait till OP is done.

Oh, the founder.

Yeah, his origin is the only thing I want now.

"hand of peace"? "peace of the hand"?

isn't he done for today? is the third volume even translated

Seia deserved better than Yori.

I thought her finger accidentally smushed that side of his face but I went back to the page and she didn't even tough it and he didn't fall on his face either. Weird.

That is clearly a pube.

more like WHORI am i right

thanks for the story. i like this one a lot more than the other one.

Or an ass hair.

Petit was too big for humans and too small for giants. Also Yori is a pretty boy and Petit is more rugged.

Maybe the artist decided to make his face fucked up after drawing the page and didn't wanna change a little detail like that.

The latin? Google says it would translate to something like "Hand of the Gods."

Yeah I haven't been reading the lore pages which probably put Petit's situation in perspective but he just kept making one stupid decision after another. Yori was more interesting to follow and it was neat seeing that humans had a life and society practically separate from the giants. I assume his daughter is going to get focus at one point.

Petit's issue is his heart mixing with his instincts. He's a good man but his giant tendencies do make his decision making a lot more blurred. Also doesn't help that he was raised by 2 radically different people.

It made him strong user.

It's actually a continuation of Petit and Yori's story it seems.

I kind of of feel bad for the bullied Girl Giant Petit spelunked in probably dying at the end

So this isn't the girl Petit's mom tries to get him to make babies with right?

Nope, she just looks just like her.
Maybe she's is Yori's half sister from another mistress.

noooo, sala is the girl petit will kill with his giant cock

Okay, it was kind of hard to tell because Yori doesn't seem to age and snapping and selling his daughter into the meat market or giving her to the giant queen is something I could see him doing.

Also any recommendations for other good comics to storytime? I need to fill up my comic folder, so I need some recommendations. I'll look for downloads in the win-o threads. Please no capeshit.

Attached: ComicsList.png (522x426, 20K)

i hope petit isn't going to murdercock anyone. hopefully his waifu is infertile.

the artstyle kinda reminded me about another french comic, you know the one with the farmer girl with giant boobs and her giant dick little brother.

some of the first issues of promethea were pretty good before moore went off the fucking rails

Kaksus

I dunno' why his mom didn't try to find a tall girl.

The Founder got with a tall girl and she still died. Theoretically, Petit's child would be much to large for any human woman.

Thanks OP for storytiming both volumes. I had seen some panels around but didn't know this is a comic; I assumed it all came from some webcomic with vore fetish or something along that line. Really digging the setting and how everything is fleshed out.

maybe they'd give her a caeserian section

or more likely the comic ends with him cutting his dick off or something equally french

Probably get the child out after 12 or 13 months. It'd be premature by giant standards but probably would still live.

Oh, hmm. Then yeah in that case some poor girl is dying.

Not there yet unfortunately

Hopefully the neighboring countries will introduce the condom to Petit's country.

He could just improve his pullout game.

It's a beauty mark, not a mole
It's called cosmetics, or "make-up"

Kaksus

Prison city, makes sense

>Our family will hold power as long as the ogre-gods reign.
Yeah about that....

I skimmed Death To The Tsar at my library, it at least looked interesting.

What happens if he does anal instead? Does the girl die producing a giant turd?

F

Sweet, thanks for the over the garden wall comics!

Man what a cunt

How long until we get a translation?

Feelsbad.jpg

Oh, cool.

Thanks for the dump

I think it had less to do with giant instincts and more with his mothers' influence. He had protection of the strongest giant, dozens of servants, was strong enough to kill three armed men all by himself with one swipe, and a mom who taught him that humans were like cattle to them and that he was supposed to breed humans for the sake of the family. He was bound to have issues with boundaries.

And like this I lose every sympathy I had for the father for whatever is going to happen for him. How can you be this dumb?

So, Yori's dudes had flintlocks (along with the rest of the world, it seems) and the rebels thought to take 'em out with rapiers?

Do nobles in this country not read newspapers? Maybe they were simply too stupid to live.

Advanced technology might also mean it's more accessible to the common population. The nobles arguably have a decent position between the giants and the poor people.

He knew full well what his kids did but he couldn't side with his bastard. His reputation was at stake.

I really love the architechture detail in all of this

Also nobles are usually too obsessed with social status to see the big picture. Not surprising for a French comic.

We never saw what happened with the fatter half brother. I assume he was killed with everyone else but it's still weird.

keked.

The Indonesian forum?

He could've at least syphoned them enough cash for them to live well enough not to resort to prostitution

The hot people are nobility too

Technically as long as Petit is alive the reign isn't over.

F and F
They both tried

But he's not in charge, so there is no reign.

Petit had to deal with his mum smushing him together with a girl while she was having a nervous breakdown, I don't know what fucking Volume you were reading last thread.

>Eliabaal's in the background behind Mihal.

That's a good touch. They're having debates in heaven now.

There was no penetration for that user. It was just awkward.

>posting images in the middle of a storytime
You heathen monster

Fuck off, your mother had to whore around for fucking close to a decade because she chose you over your father, you ungrateful little shit

>it's only rape if there's penetration
user, I don't know what to say to this.

How long will volume 3 take to translate.

He's a literal bastard.

Looking at those rags, and remembering the inbred giantesses, I think Yori struck gold with that old lady.

her hair is quite pretty*frot*

surprised-pikachu.jpeg

It is the place to get Scanlations for some reason, maybe because they don't care about copyright.

What did she see?

>be 14, having to go to shitty lessons with brother and half brother
>Half brother thinks he's smarter than us
>Decide to fuck with him and beat him up
>Hold him down while brother calls him a whore
>Hear the sound of a buckle being undone
>turn around

Emo nigga standing at the top of the steps with a giant mallet.

It would be a story of blue ball.

He lives in a cess pool of shits from little to giant ones. At least he's ultra competent.

Why did he even decide to just suddenly try and rape him. Kind of came out of goddamn nowhere.

Why is his mother like that? Her son rose like a rocket out of the gutters. The means might have been awful but would she really prefer to keep living in the poverty with her son forced to steal or prostitute himself and she becoming an alcoholic?

He whored himself too far longer than that. Also he didn't had her killed. When I saw him handing a dagger I thought he would ask her to kill him or herself.

Nice.

>Where is grandma?
>frot
kek

I think it's just that the artist isn't good at drawing a variation of beautiful people.

petit you fucker

looks like the french demolition guy from atlantis

It's the quickest way to re-establish dominance.

Plus look at him. He was clearly asking for it.

the state of Yea Forums

Pound for Pound, I'd say Gab was worse.

Yori has a very welcoming buttocks.

The God King is the reason why they're all even like that. Before his reign there wasn't any issues between man and giants.

Were you not able to flip one page before asking that question?

huh huh huh

Explorer

Gab always makes me think of One Piece for some reason. I think he has a similar haircut as one of the major baddies.

He's also a retard so he fits right in One Piece.

Gotta link? I'm curious but not sure how to navigate.

He didn't even need to flip a page, you had emo dude suspiciously removing gloves and descending from the stairs a few panels later.

Obviously the nobles are about as inbred as giants by this point, seems kinda natural.

There were plenty of issues since the giants pretty much always treated humans like slaves, it's only with the God King that they took it a step further and started eating them.

Seems like a waste of noble jizz putting it into your dads bastards sons ass.

At first I felt sorry for him but his wife is right, his pride has got the better of him.

True. But Gab is the one who ended the Reign of the King who was trying to get the Giants to stop fucking eating people.

Monstress, please. I need it!

He was educated and she clearly did not want him to become a prostitute like her She was probably hoping he'd find a normal job as part of the proletariat but he was intent on rising through the noble ranks

Scary.

He's really charming and honest in his ambitions. I'd probably suck his dick if he asked me.
Or just obey him loyally.

Le Roi Soleil

So is Vol. 3 out yet?

Apparently it came out last year, but I can't find scans for it anywhere. Not sure if it's translated yet.

Man, I'm really digging these comics and especially the artstyle. Thanks for posting!

It's certainly a Euro style but it's really clean and arresting. The eyes almost remind me of manga or something but it works really well.

>a sphinx
Nice.

this fucking comic

I just see bros being bros. It’s not true rough housing until someone gets it up the butt.

I don't get what happened to his eye. It's fine one page, bleeding the next, completely fucked up in the end. Did I miss something here?

I think it’s just that the artist decided they wanted to fuck up his face but didn’t change the prior page to show it.

lel

pop pop pop watchin niggaz drop

Did Sol throw her down?

based graveyard dude

I don't think you understand how sex works

>lol imma just cripple this dude who so far has been competent and faithful for no reason, just to keep him on his toes
Bad move Emione, you fucking idiot

bois will be bois

That doesn't really make sense considering Giants will just destroy and kill things when they go anywhere. They would not be praised and hailed by people not fearing them.

this is so fucking beautiful

90% of people that receive characterization in this series are aristocrats or related through blood to aristocrats.

That's the French for you.

Meant for

They are slightly more tame than lions and people like to look at those. Assuming these guys were fed and entertained they could even be "fun" to be around. Gab apparently enjoyed drinking with his Chamberlain.

Remember, most people don't know about the farm. The domestic servants are born, raised and killed inside the mountain palace. The ogres are like gods to them, even used to lead their humans into battle.

Not sure how he became like this. His dad was an ineffectual ass but not really that bad compared to some people Yori associated with. And throughout the whole thing the dude was trying to prevent bloodshed.

Ultimately, I think Yori his father for being too weak to protect them and his whole life was about becoming strong enough to protect the things he cared about. Unfortunately, he destroyed most of the things he cared about on his quest for power.

how can you be so dumb to send away a boy and a woman? What's dumb about that? in 999 out of a thousand cases, nothing bad can come from that, and that 1 case still might not be a big problem.

>They are slightly more tame than lions
no, when Gab is in good spirits, he'll try to kill you for fun, and not just occasionally either (as has been shown). When he is angry, he'll kill you too. When he's neutral, sometimes he'll kill you, sometimes he wont.

Now you might say he's especially bad, but even someone killing you with 25% of the likelihood he or his bastards are shown to kill any human in their proximity, this deal just doesn't hold up. If a giant visits a city he thinks he owns for a day, he'll kill like a half a dozen people in broad daylight.

And this isn't even mentioning someone getting peckish.

That is Gab, who was a bad enough dude to go against his uncle. And even he could sit down and laugh over drinks with his chamberlain. There were at least 3 good ogres. I have to imagine there was a lot of variance from the God-King and Gab to those 3.

Most gods were only seen when they were out to war, anyway, so they were expected to be dangerous like war elephants or something like that. Still nice for parades.

They also didn't eat people except in secret during the reign of the God-King.

And that reign was loooooooooooooong, so much they thought that guy was immortal.

>They also didn't eat people except in secret during the reign of the God-King
this is irrelevant since for centuries this has been their MO.

>Most gods were only seen when they were out to war, anyway, so they were expected to be dangerous like war elephants or something like that. Still nice for parades.
This isn't what the text is talking about.

>That is Gab, who was a bad enough dude to go against his uncle. And even he could sit down and laugh over drinks with his chamberlain. There were at least 3 good ogres. I have to imagine there was a lot of variance from the God-King and Gab to those 3.

>That is Gab, who was a bad enough dude to go against his uncle.
His wife, a comparatively good Giantess kills servants for being slow.

> I have to imagine there was a lot of variance
I encourage you to read the first few pages of Vol 1 to see how dozens and dozens of diverse, well fed Giants with a good supply of food all around them react to seeing a human sized baby.

These were all giants born recently (in the context of ogre history). By this time they were so isolated from the outside world they didn't even realize they didn't actually own all the land they thought they did. This is why the Chamberlain gets killed. Gab's wife isn't a specially nice ogress, she is just a genius by their standards.

We can't extrapolate from their weakest, most degenerated point backwards a thousand years.

Again, they weren't allowed to eat people during the rule of the God-King, the longest ruling ogre of them all, and this was when they started to move away from being conquering war gods to being NEETs.

They were slightly less degenerate than they are now when they stopped visiting the cities.
They could probably hold it together for a while and only kill one or two peasants the real rulers didn't care about.

I looked at this page and "snigger" grabs my attention like a light grabs the attention of an insect.

Surprised Drakan staid bought honestly.
But maybe he just knows where his best opportunities lie. For now.

>holding telescope to his blind eye
Why?

>everything is rape
Stop raping me with your words.

Yeah but he wanted to rape the first woman he saw.

I thought she was going to kill herself in defiance.

That's good because I really need to see how this plays out.

Probably in mutual destruction, seeing what we already have.

It is interesting. It's hard to note whether it was cannibalism or just incest which started the downfall.

I think Petit will come out better than Yori. He has grown to be a better giant after all.

Yori will be the antagonist for sure, but Petit has less of my sympathy, so I hope he loses too.

>Ogres-Dieux 03 - Le Grand Homme

FUCK YOU OP. Now I got to wait a 3 years to get an english translation.

bdgest has a preview of tome 3

I think you can buy the epub raw here

ooh, is that yori's mum?

so I'm assuming yori's now ruling. Man, it's interesting to see how so much ambition can turn someone into a monster.

No. From the previews it looks like she's a member of the resistance group.

Yori's mom has lighter hair and fewer wrinkles. Resistance lady also has a tighter face.

Attached: 2570_P16.jpg (900x1185, 393K)

I just hope it won't end up with some time fuckery where we learn Petit is actualy the Founder.

nah, he's just got sameface for beautiful people.

oh this would be the worst

There's been no magic so far.

You know, there hasn't.
That's one thing that's been really interesting so far.

>The son of the late King Gabaal, helpless, attends the capture of his companion, Sala, by the Chambellan's men, while he is saved by a mysterious man named Lours.

>Cutler and itinerant remover, he joined the Niveleurs, a group of resistant who sees Petit a major asset. In exchange for their help to deliver Sala, Petit will have to claim his throne, disavow Chambellan and restore the understanding between giants and humans. But the road will be long ... And in wanting to trap Sol, formidable strategist at the head of the troops of Chambellan, Lours could well have trapped himself ... Will he succeed in becoming the great man he wish to be since he was a child?

So it's Lours' story? That's interesting.

I fucking love how history is delivered in this comic. We had a complete feeling history with the family tree of the giants, then realized there are humans and thought okay, with the chambellans we've got a good overview now but now we'll see how fucking different the world is really seent hrough the commoner's eyes

>starts with Yori looking hot on the tree
>SIKE his face actually gets fucked up
That was interesting

Should've kept the eyepatch on, it looked good on him.

I feel bad for Petit's mother. Sure she was a giant and encumbered with all that entails, but she really, truly, loved her son and just wanted to stop the genetic degeneration that was wracking her family.

>I-I think Petit was cuter.
you're not alone user

She also killed and ate one of her servants because they accidentally poked her with a needle.

Honestly, I do think the canniblism is more responsible for that. If you look at gab and find out that he's desidee's younger brother you can see that it's more about canniblism.

He's actually her nephew. Gab's dad was Coor.

Ah. It is interesting that the cannibilism and degredation happened at the same time.

>dumb shit pays money to be a faggot and get his eye stabbed out
Nobility.

That scene was super hot, what a fuckin dream.

when you have that much money, you just burn it to light cigars with

If his little brother wasn't such a bitch he would have gotten what he paid for.

Hey he just wanted to beat him up. Not his fault that the older brother wanted to fuck Yori.

Fuck you, Yori. Everyone else has.

>little boy gets diddled
>grows up to play entire country like fiddle
Like poetry.

He just figured out that if you let yourself get diddled by the right people, eventually you can get whatever you want.

Most of the giants are repulsive, but Emione is just gorgeous. Too bad she just slightly too psycho for my tastes. She's perfect when she's toned back in her violence around Petite.

I don't think so but he does have his mom in a pedestal and his daughter looking like her probably ensures she's his favorite. He probably even likes her better than his son because of it.

Sol is the real Chad in all of this. Right hand man to the guy doing everything right, killing people like a midnight assassin to secure the places of him and his lord, and NOT getting fucked by other dudes for half his life. Got to kill the shit that caused all this, too.

In the end I do like that she was able to take Gab on. Showed that she was willing to do anything to save her son.

The giants are all dead now, user. At least the ones in the kingdom the story is set in. Except Petit.

This was a great read - thanks op

i'm guessing that's changed now he 'disowned' her

Sol is definitely a dark horse.

>not getting a raging boner from physically dominating someone, then raping them in a haze of lust, confused and angry for the rest of your life but still stimulated by the memory
there's a lot of straight men out there who've been raped by straight men and both are troubled by the experience, stupid sex and violence circuits, so close together

I went back and forth on whether or not Yori had an Oedipus Complex regarding his mom but in the end I don't think so, since the women he pursued were nothing really like her. I think he did use his devotion to his mom to justify all the bad stuff he ended up doing and his daughter looking so much like her grandmother is what allowed him to banish his mom. Because now he has someone new for when they're surrounded by bodies he can say, "but I did it to protect us". I could be totally wrong though since it seems like at the end he's snapped and just doesn't care anymore.

In the presence of the giants there is danger, always, the story is weakened if that ever lets up, they are powerful and ruthless and nobody in this whole story is ever moved by ethics.

Wouldn't Yori need Petit to restore ogre rule and thus his status as Chamberlain?

i think he loved her so much at first because he was a child, and since he has done such humiliating things for her, he had to keep loving her with the same fervency or he would have, by his own standards, demeaned himself for nothing. until he essentially had a reason to get rid of her, that made it her fault and not his

Except we learn of 3 giants that liked humans just fine. We even meet one that would like giants to go extinct for the sake of humanity, even after humans turned her into a circus beast.

Ironically all 3 being the children of the human hating God King.

I'm assuming that due to his status he's already the defacto leader.

Still feel bad for Yori's dad.
Until the end, he was really trying to do right for his son Yori.

Even Yori trusts that he planned to save his life. Instead of softening his heart, knowing this, he calls his father an idiot for not trying to finish him off when he had the opportunity.

Dude tried as hard as he could to be a normie, too, and people still assumed the worst of him.

Haven't practiced my french in almost 10 years, but I think in the preview he says he needs to have gods on the mountain.

Yori and his half-brother both turned out to be psychos. Maybe there really was something wrong with their lineage.

What happened with yori was he slowly just let his life and need to further it matter more than anything. He wasn't always a completely sociopath but he became one after getting to into political games.

I do wonder why his mother did nothing.

>and restore the understanding between giants and humans
Isn't Petit the only giant left, or did some survive the fire? Or maybe he needs to make more giants? I think to prevent inbreeding, the female giants can just get artificially inseminated by human males.

I think the "cannibalism caused the giants to get all fucked up theory" kind of loses steam in volume 2, when you see the nobles aren't much better and aren't shown to engage in cannibalism.

1st volume is giants, 2nd volume is nobles, so 3rd volume will be about various commoners/rebels through the ages?

This guy says he can "get around" a translation if someone can get him the raw. I can't speak French, does buying it provide a digital download or a physical book, and how much are 26 frogdollars in burgerdollars?

Attached: gloryholanon.png (1007x117, 8K)

The thing that shocked me the most in this entire volume was that Sol, whose first encounter with Yori was "you caught me doing something illegal so now I'll have to kill you", is the only person of importance that DIDN'T betray him.

Nah, I think the cannibalism hastened the effects of the inbreeding. Human and giants can interbreed and produce viable offspring if the size difference isn't too great; therefore under most scientific classifications, they are both the same species. All sorts of weird shit and diseases crop up when you eat your own kind.

Great-grandchildren actually. The God King's elderly grandchild succeeded him after death.

Sol seems very pragmatic. He has no reason to betray Yori, since Yori has been right about everything every time, and he has also shown that he is more cunning than him. Why rock the boat? His only ambitions before meeting Yori was making loads of emone selling giant's teeth. Yori probably gives him all that and more.

Maybe he secretly wants to bone him

Whoa wait, there's a 2?

>Have you heard anything, is Chaz gonna be Okay?

Not sure if it's a translation thing, but I like that they're seems to be a distinction between 'Giants' and 'Ogres'.

Like that the royal family has degenerated so much since the God-King's reign that they can't even be called Giants anymore. Instead they're Ogres, twisted and hideous things. Desideé was the last true Giant.

I can speak simple french, I could loosely translate most of that 17 page preview if anyone would like.

Here's tome 3 in case anyone wants to translate.
mega.nz/#!2BdUyawb!Gs4-_O4wvj9tq7nglmUq1CLdpcSt-UtzlGWFq4UWr8E

If there's people willing to make a team to get it translated, I'm in. Don't know shit about what's needed other than bare translating though.

Reading this is like reading a manga adaptation of LN.

Aww nice

Does anyone else get a Louis XIV vibe from the God king? Apogee of the line, seen as something grander than what preceded or followed him, established ultimately ruinous precedents, and living long enough to outlive his descendants. Even his design and poses remind me of the Sun King.

Aside from that, the whole thing is a grand indictment of royalty and nobility. We have incest rivaling the Ptolemaic line and Habsburgs, royals callously feeding on their subjects, a royal family that cultivated an air of divine aloofnes, nobles too focused on their own interests to make much needed reforms, schemes and backstabbing, it's all here.

Without a doubt. The French authors are drawing on French history. The designs are very intentional.

I wish I could translate it, I really want to read the rest

I can try, I only speak French as a second language tho and it's a while since I lived in France so if someone wants to go over my translations it'd be grand

Good storytime OP, keep em coming.

Giving (you)'s in case my message gets buried, I may start a job in a week and so won't really have time nor dedication enough to translate 200 pages on my own.

frog here, it seemed so obvious your post has weirded me out. Should this kind of stuff be put on sidenotes ?

it's like someone saying
>"Am I the only one who feels like 'Maus' has some holocausty themes?"

>when you see the nobles aren't much better
The nobles are way, way better tho. They're maybe a bit morally corrupt, and some of them (especially the older ones) look ugly as fuck, but none of them are outright bordering on animal-tier retarded like so many of the giants

Btw does anyone have tomes 1 and 2 in mega form? English preferred but French is also ok, thanks!

Some foreshadowing in the third panel there.

Links can be found in desuarchive. Just search for "the ogre gods".

It's pretty much a mix of French and Hapsburg absolutist monarchy, but with even sharper divisions between royalty and everyone else - to such an extreme that it is charicaturesque.

It's a two-caste society, with one caste being less than 0,0001% of the population, living in a bubble, and biologically incapable of outbreeding (until petit comes along). Non-ogres have class divisions and a little social mobility (though all social climbers we me've learned about needed someone above them to pull them up) but their ceiling is far below the floor for the most incompetent ogre. The Chamberlain system remind's me of absolutist monarchs' favourites - essentially, as the skill requirement to admnister the realm kept increasing, kings and queens would usually leave some ambitious mastermind to do their whole job for them, limiting themselves to leisure and signing decrees someone else wrote.

wow

You gotta fuck yer wife, bro.
It's not even about your sexual gratification.
It's about intimacy and affection, bro.
Got to make your wife feel wanted.

Eh, he was more precise than that, but it's about the same level of common history knowledge around here
Now I'm curious as to how much european pre-modern history is taught abroad

Oh, thanks a lot.

Anyhow I'll try to translate some pages of tome 3 today since I have some time, let's see how far I get.
If you're a native speaker, do you want to be a proofreader since I suspect I'll miss some wordplay or such?

t

seems like early modern era, and not pre-modern, was what I was going for

Sure.
I have cbr of the three tomes If you prefer it too.

However he managed to overcome that urge and stop himself before it was too late.
Petit is a constant odds with himself, with the cruelty of his lineage.
He was able to resist entirely later on.
He's a bit of an idiot, but at least he's slowly developing into a more mature, kinder person.

Oh, I might - wouldn't it be easier to get the individual pages as jpgs off that, for typesetting?

Please, I've already dealt with this in Jak&Daxter.
Not again

Attached: Statue_of_Mar_at_Haven_sewers.png (1102x1065, 1.45M)

They're all suffering from prion diseases.
It would explain why they're all so stupid compared to Desdee

I guess so, for cleaning too. Got them on ygg. I have shitty bitrate, so, since it might take quite a while for me to upload, you may want to get it from there too.

I actually thought it was cool. Daxter being made in the image of the precursors was a terrible asspull on the other hand

She had her moments but she was just as needlessly cruel as the rest of them.

Her only true saving grace was her unconditional love for her son.
However that was marred to by using Petit as a tool to revive their dying bloodline.

I'll admit though, she was gorgeous by any standard, and angelic when compared to the other Ogres.

I think Sol recognizes Yori's competence and would rather stand by him than the other idiot aristocrats.

Agreed, the comedic ending was not appreciated given the tragic buildup.
All that drama wasted on a shitty joke

I don't know what ygg is? Anyhow I'll be translating just the speech to a text file first, so it'll be a while before I'd need the pages to typeset on anyway

yggtorrent, current biggest successor to t411, francophone torrent website. I try not to use it too often, but sometimes I can only find my stuff there. not unlike its predecessor, its kinda scammy

>It's about intimacy and affection, bro.
Sex has never been about that to Yori. He is mentally broken in the head.

here's tome 3 in cbr.

If this thread dies, you guys can make a thread here for the translation project.

boards.plus4chan.org/coc/
It's for "long term projects."

Native/fluent speakers could be good to help non-natives recognize any puns or subtext or whatever and make sure it comes though in the translation.

We'll also need people to erase the original dialogue from the word bubbles and type in the translated text. If anyone can recognize the font used for the comic, that'd be great so it remains consistent with volume 1+2.

Putting text in white word bubbles is easy, but sound effects onomonopeias used on the background is trickier to replace but can be skipped if nobody knows how to do it.

Burger here, I know diddly squat about European aristocracy besides King George III (the guy we fought against to be free) and Richard the Lionheart (went on the crusades.)

I wish he could at least understand on an intellectual level that others around him view sexual intimacy differently.
He needs to engage with his wife occasionally if only to keep her relatively contented.
A happy wife does not plot behind your back.
Fucking her is the pragmatic option.

he's probably teh big gay though

It may be because he understands that that he does not want to do it anymore.
Getting rid of pragmatic obligations is the royal way.

To add to that, clearly with being a whore most of his life, it should have been a satisfying decision.

Thanks, I didn't know this existed.

I guess I'll proofread at least, like the other user asked. Onomatopia should be ok though, with languages being close ? english ones never ticked me off.
Also, you're missing on great fun, if only for Louis XIV

If this comic was an anime or a Netflix toon, fujos would probably be all over it.

absolute legend

That was a good read. Thanks for sharing, friendo.

I really like the idea of taking those stories of royalty and giving the kings incredible physical power as well as social/political power. Like, not only could the king have you and your family executed, he could literally just stomp his foot and do it himself. It really drives home the feeling of hopelessness.

Thanks!

Oh, thanks for the plusboard hint, didn't know it existed.
Yeah, with sound effects it's such a hassle to first photoshop away the original effects from the pictures before you can write in the new ones - personally I'd rather read the original, foreign sound effects than have, like, a part of the picture dodgily erased from under the new sound effects. With speech bubbles it's so much easier because it's just white space left for text.

But if someone wants to track down a free font that's as close as possible to the one used in tomes 1 and 2, that'd be awesome. I'll just use something on my computer or something I can find quickly from Google fonts, otherwise.

t. wannabe translator

cc wild words looks like it. Still got to find something for the interludes, both titles and text.

>Righthand man is a stereotypical sullen alan rickman knock off
It wouldn't make it to the end of the first trailer without having mountains of gay porn dedicated to that ship.
Also Yori recognizes Sol's competence. Another noble would probably extort him in the most simplistic of ways while looking down on him for his position.

inside text of the interludes should be Garamond. I'm having a hard time finding something for those title pieces.

Ok, brilliant! Just making sure, CC wild words has euro accents, right?

Honestly the text interlude initials are so decorative I wonder if I should just leave them in. Maybe somewhere like dafont might have some super special extra decorative stuff that could be used, but imo the coloring, design etc is such a part of the overall visual design I'm a bit averse to just slapping in a different typeface?

Actually never mind, the big initials are the William Morris alphabet, I think I can track down each initial as a picture and slap it in

We're talking about those right ?
Everything else looked like Garamond to me
They've been translated everytime, I think, in the previous tomes
Didn't find a ccwildwords with accents, but it definitely looks like it otherwise

Attached: Ogres-Dieux - T03 - 0022.jpg (1920x2520, 2.51M)

ah, yes
Didn't pay attention to those william morris letters, nice.

should be something Gensch & Heyse

Ah no shit I was talking about only of the big initials in the backstory parts, not those.

Oh boy. Well if nothing decent enough comes up, I might just slap a subtitle-translation on the bottom of the page rather than mess with the style? But it's some time still until we're at the typesetting phase, urgh :D

If you can find a similar font to type it in, I could redraw the title fancier in english. It wouldn't be perfect but I've done it for several side project books before.

as for ccwildwords, maybe search for an int version made by scanlators ?
like this one nk-mangascans.ucoz.org/load/font_cc_wild_words_int/1-1-0-1

Yeah, it's just boring to search for fonts, I want it done the best we can the sooner.
haven't explored it, but it definitely is like I said

Well, that'd be awesome! I can look through the book (actually started just translating and haven't even looked through the story, ha) and translate the decorative pages to redraw first, if you want?

Yea damn right it's boring to search for fonts, and I really, really appreciate it when others find the fonts for me. A lot.

Well, there's a bit of a conundrum.
One major new character is called Lours. This is a pun, because "l'ours" is French for "the bear". Dude literally walks around going "my name is Thebear, like a bear". Also the bear features heavily in the story bit intro pages as a visual motif, and Lours' name is stylized as L'Ours (the bear) in the text.

So, I don't know what to call him. Just Lours is the most simple option, but it completely drops the bear connection. However I kinda don't want to call him Thebear or Bear even though that'd be the literal translation.

Any ideas? Comments? Opinions?

I think it will be needed for "Les dits de Lours" but the subtitle for each interlude can be inaccurate without hurting too much. I do think they proceeded likewise, since it's clearly a font, but the upper text got little spikes not appearing below, and different within the same letters ; also the capital letters are different, so I opt for a handmade variation

Though there's only six of them, we could copy paste at least some :
LMGNÉ(E)OP
eaîtrénlivu'èsok

Still haven't found a suitable font otherwise though

Let's call him Al bear

did you check the dafont ornamental historic section? They have some fraktura that could maybe be used as a base?

Previous translator called him Petit still, so what about keeping Lours to be consistent ? for this one we can fill in some quick it comes from my people's language , Since I don't think "Petit" was ever explained

Alright sweet! Once you translate them, I'll need the biggest version of the files you have (basically whatever files you're planning to use), and I'll rewrite the titles in there.

I agree, keep his name as Lours. People can infer that Petit means small eventually since it's such a common word even to anglophones. As for Lours the pun might be worth explaining in the margins or something.

Besides, keeping the pun isn't that important, since like for petit, we keep getting reminded what it means through the whole book.
Lours shouldn't sound too bad in english too, like a heavy Lars

You can just add an extra "translators notes" page at the end for stuff like that.

Myeah, but each backstory page is headed by this gorgeous "les dits de L'ours" page which kinda translates to "The fables of the Bear", so the animal element is a strong literary allusion to other French "dits" of various animals, especially combined with the strong visual imagery of the bear.

With Petit, it kinda worked to leave it as-is, because even though it's also a pun because he's so small, it came through because petit as a word is so well-known.
But with Lours - well, it plays really heavily on the Lours - L'ours joke.

So I kinda do want to put the word "bear" in there, but.
I wonder if I should really just name him "Bear". Or have him say Lours "means bear" or something

Well in any case. The main title is
"The fables of the Bear". or "The fables of L'ours" or whatever his name ends up being. In French it's the same thing, but.

The subtitles are:
The Master
The General
The Leveler
The Student
The Oloks
The Pariah

Fraktura seems further away from it than Gensch & Heyse to me, but yeah. Also, variations within letters appear too in the subtitles, between the "e" from "Le"/"Les" and those from the other words.
I'm down to looking at type fonts from the end of the nazi era currently

Or well, one option might be to have him introduce himself as Lours, "it means bear", and then have the backstory pages about him still be titled "The parable of the Bear", as a reminder of what his name means? While still keeping his name as Lours in the text?

Awesome! I only have the files that have been linked into this thread, check out which ones are larger. Possibly the cbr?

Hey I just ended up reading some article about medieval French literature in trying to figure out how best to translate "dits", I didn't expect this. But it's kinda fun.

I'm really really glad I don't have to do the whole thing alone though.

It shouldn't be the fables save for the alliteration, since it's the tales from his actual life. Fables are by definition made up stories. Isn't "the sayings of" something used in english ? or "xxx's sayings" ?

They're equal size I think, 276 mb
jpg should be easier to work from I think

Parable is but a compromise, but I think I might like only something that means as the french meant it, it sounds so good in it, like Lours, which looks like a harder Louis, the royal name.

I thought the "sayings" of something sounded a bit too clunky and thought the whole animal aspect was meant to play into it, that's why.

But maybe it could be "The tales of" xxx instead?

Calling it "the sayings of Lours" like the literal translation imo doesn't work because it's more his backstory told in story form, and not some wise opinions or musings or teachings he's telling.

Yeah, but calling it the fables get rid of the subtelty. Also, the animal fable allusions aren't quite kept during the interludes. It's really just a cosmetic thing.
Agreed, even "Lours' sayings" wouldn't sound good. Maybe there use "the fables of the bear" and trust the reader to make the link with Lours ? I like that. As much of a compromise it can be, "parable" does get rid of the Renart feel.
(and there's no " ' " on the titles, it's just the "L" font being pushed up by the succeding "o")

glad too, Yea Forumsmrad

Well, but you're right that "fable" isn't the best choice, I got too caught up in the bear aspect, and the whole animal tale thing, thanks for pointing that out.

However again "sayings" doesn't work either, because it's like a story, a parable or fable or whatever, told of him and his backstory as if by a narrator.

So, perhaps it's either "Parable", or "Tales of"?

Parable works when his name really does read like "bear", which is how the French authors intended it to be; indistinguishable from the word for the animal.

But if we'll keep his name as Lours, which kinda waters it down but which people seem to like best, "parable" stops working as well, so in that case it should maybe be Tales of Lours?
In that option the "sayings of" element is kinda represented, too.

God, translating puns is hard.

Meaning-wise for what follows I find "the words of" to be the closest of "les dits", but again, we do get rid of the fables (and a wordplay on "the edicts" too, by the way, as meaningless that one is)
I say let's meme supreme and call it "The Isopets of Lours"
Isopet being an old name for fables coming from Esope's tales but also reading like a portemanteau today for "equalfarts" with a technical taste.
I'll say too that using fables is rather tasteless given that in english it comes from the french, so it's hardly a translation at all. But maybe it's an immediate recall to Lafontaine and such ? wouldn't know that.

so it will be either :

[The isopets of Lours]
The tales/fables of the bear
or
The tales of Lours

What makes you say that?

Isopets of Lours, ha!

But ok I read a bit more on dits and agree even more now that it's either "parable of" or "tales of" and I made a mistake with "fables". Sorry.

So many people seemed to want to keep his name as Lours, so let's go with that. It's easiest after all.
I'll have him mention that "it means a bear" in the scene where in French he introduces himself as "Bear, like a bear". So that's settled.

Thus, it's probs either
>The Tales of the Bear
>The Tales of Lours

(or
>The Parable of the Bear)

As the text itself is a narrator-told story of Lours' past, calling it "Tales of the Bear" would imo emphasize the real meaning of "Lours", tie in nicely with the visual imagery where he's represented by a literal bear (like where Petit is riding a bear, meaning Lours taking him somewhere) and all the literary allusions to animal fables - and would also have the "sayings" element in it.

Could be a good compromise? Huh?
But "The Tales of Lours" could also work well if people really prefer that.

I think the top ornamental squiggle of the letter L is clearly meant to be the ' in L'ours, tho. Just in an artistic way.

I'll mention that translating to "the bear" gives an overall oral taste to the translation work, I find. Like someone was already told this story from someone else and thought it was the bear's sayings, not catching on the hero's name, this kind of loss of meaning creating hermetic knowledge and newfound symbols.
Not that it doesn't go against what the authors may have meant with those books, I don't know how it will all end, maybe it isn't meant to be told from someone else's point of view despite the quasi omniscience of the narrator over three tomes, that may just be a craft since the interludes taste like young adult literature.

So, tales of Lours ?

yeah, maybe to get on the ambiguity, you're right. I just didn't see it for the whole read, so it seemed unlikely to me

Works for me.
It has the same vibe as keeping Petit's name Petit in tome 1. It means "small" in English but they didn't translate it.

I should have refreshed. Now I want the bear too, again. What a pain

let's vote, tales of the bear or tales of Lours
I vote tales of the bear_

>Like someone was already told this story from someone else and thought it was the bear's sayings
That doesn't become the pervasive feeling though, because again the backstory itself is a narrator-told story, where dude is called Lours. So "Tales of the Bear" would imo just remind the reader of the meaning of the name Lours and bring it a little closer to the intention of the authors. He'd still be called Lours in text and by the other characters etc, it'd be clear. And the "oral taste" (nicely put) is also strong in the original, I feel. With the art representing Lours as a bear and the constant muddling of his name and the word bear, there is a really strong fable or fairytale element to it, like the hero is the bear who is Lours, and in intentionally writing his name in the "sayings of" subtitle part as "bear" (L'ours), not Lours like it is everywhere else.

(But then, I just really really like the Thebear-bear thing and want to shove the word bear in there somewhere.)

I'll mention that we cannot call it the bear's tales. This isn't tex avery.

tales of the bear

For the last font, Maximilian/Maximilian zier/Fraktur or Moderne Fraktur/Gensch & Heyse mix maybe ? I think I'm going to draw them all out of frustration, even without the help of the user who proposed to help with that

I'm still here user, just eating lunch

so, Tales of the bear it is

>lunch
I'm about to go to bed, just have papers to do and maybe proofreading ? and font-founding

Tales of Lours

Noted.
No-one's suggesting the bear's tales, thankfully. I agree it'd sound silly.

Honestly I have great faith in you font-finding and drawing guys and your visual eye. It's gonna look cool.

Nope, you'll have proofreading sometime tomorrow, sorry, I want to get a bigger chunk done. Should we create a google doc or such?

eh, I found something similar enough in my nazi list, but it doesn't exist in computer font.
I'm resigned, so I'll remind myself here
that we need a T,h,f,b,S, and d, right ?
and there's the d I missed in the title already.

I don't think Jak or a version of Jak was Mar, he was a descendant of Mar after all. If Jak was somehow Mar that would make him his own great, great grandfather which doesn't make any sense. I think they completely dropped the "Jak is actually Mar" plot by Jak 3 when it was revealed that Damas was your dad.

Yori and Sol would be the hot new ship immediately, you know it. Overthrow the old regime together, and so forth, couples that plot assassinations and revolutions together stay together.

That and and I've made a thread on plus4chan to keep the tab, etc.
Please check in

I don't think I'm going to sleep much in the end

saw this, I'm tied up with something for 40~ minutes, will check the thread then, thanks for making it

ya crazy diamond

Not how well this would work, but if anybody is still wondering about fonts, maybe this could help.

I haven't looked at Vol3, but I think if Petit is going to be the main good guy and Yori is going to be the main bad guy, fujos would dig the foeyay elements.

Thanks, it helped. I was busting my ass for nothing lol
so, it's pentagram's callygraphy

Bearnard might be a fitting translation

What about Barry?

Wow wow you found it?

That's brilliant. We already settled for Lours in the comic but damn. I'm going to remember that.

no love for Albear nor Lars

wait a fucking minute, plus4chan is alive?

It could be just because of those text pages but I feel like I've been missing some of the story. The first volume ends with giants dead but the second volume doesn't even get to this part. And then the third volume is about Petit and resistance.

>Albear
What sorry I'm a bit slow or distracted or something, I didn't fully realise till now.

It's also brilliant.
Albear and Bearnard.

>The first volume ends with giants dead but the second volume doesn't even get to this part.
Pretty sure the second volume ends shortly before it since the last part had "as long as the ogre gods rule, Yori will be sitting pretty" and we all know what happened to the gods. So I am guessing 3rd volume will be shortly after the death of the giants.

I don't really think that's the thing. It seems like he just likens sex and affection as something of a tool to use against other people to get what they want. The step-brother used it to try to assert dominance over him and humiliate him, and whether his mother knows it or not, she used her love/affection for his 'father' to her advantage to keep the two of them in high status.
I think it only sort of clicks to him how he can use it to his advantage when he gets paid by the noble for sex, which is probably why he models himself after said noble so much afterwards as creepy and sad as that is.
But now that he's gotten what he's wanted there really no need for him to keep up the charade, so it's pretty useless to him now.
What I'm saying is his fucked up childhood has warped his view on sex and relationships, which is why he's practically a psychopath now.

So did his attitude on these things.. He wanted more no matter the cost.

You ever read the Kite Runner? It's some mix of establishing dominance and genuine pleasure. A hole's a hole.

Considering the ogres are seen as literal gods, it strikes me as odd that some enterprising normal man hasn't tried to shack up with one. It's seen that the ogres come in many different sizes and like Petit's cousin, she was about twice his height. Well Petit himself is only a head taller than most men so it's not such a radical different between him and a normal man, towards his smaller ogre cousin. Plus the ogres themselves are obviously fairly dumb on aveage to prone to trickery.

Like Yori for example being just the type with his ambition to climb in power, what could be higher than landing himself a goddess wife? He seems ballsy enough to try anyway, and as it was seen before with Petit's cousin, most of what it took to win her affection was just some sweet words and kindness compared to the blunt sexual advances of the other ogres she's used to. A charmer and actor and a risk-taker like Yori in this specific example, you think that would be his highest goal to strive for if ultimate power is his hunger.

Probably could have been an interesting angle to portray as well for the story, even if his courting efforts failed (perhaps that being a better reason for his maiming? Tried to woo an ogress and failed and was maimed, hence his gained hatred of them?), seeing a human's efforts to lure away some gullible ogress with promises of love and better living, like living as direct queen over all the little humans compared to some nobody up in the big castle. Only for it all to blow up in his face, when perhaps his acting lover role wanes like with his wife but an ogress wouldn't just tolerate that, or perhaps the other ogres eventually find out and rain some more punishment down on them like that former chamberlain. Or even if he gets too big for his britches and tries to relocate to the big castle and fancies he could rub elbows with the ogres.

Dunno, just seems like another interesting angle that could have been tried, and seemingly in-character for one like Yori.

>never stick your dick in crazy

Hasn't that been Yori's whole life? And people learning that the hard way, with him.

it might have happened before, but when the giants got small enough to breed they were already so secluded in their castle that only their servants and the chamberlan's men ever saw them.

They also had no contact with foreign kings or princes, as they didn't even know what parts of their realm had been conquered

Well I'd have figured some bold chamberlain or assitant of one. It seemed like at that level of power they could all come and go from the castle as they pleased, though obviously kept away for their own safety unless absolutely necessary. But still, some brave guy you might expect.

Hell that would be a pretty neat plotline as well, like thief(s) that try to sneak up to the castle and even ogres themselves to steal stuff like hair from them, considering how valuable it is. Already seems like a handy gig for a chamberlain or assistants, when you go up there with a document to sign and on the way out you stumble over an ogre toenail in the hall, or a hair on the ground.

>wait a fucking minute, plus4chan is alive?

Why wouldn't it be alive.

I guess nobody is that crazy, even the actually crazy Chamberlain with the big tower.
