I guess I'm just a bitter fuck, but for some reason I'm annoyed at the Eclipsa guitar stuff continuing to be a thing beyond one actually funny scene last season. Yeah yeah it's nice to see they're trying to keep up a continuity and all but I'm just burning out on this so hard.

Like Eclipsa's just SO COOL and talented. And oh look at that, so is Moon. Moon sure has a lot of hobbies going on that we hadn't heard about before this season. And, as always, Moon and Eclipsa are BFF and Star just stands in the background doing nothing. Great. This is exactly the show I wanted to see.

Why did this show get S4 again? I mean I didn't like S3 but at least then there were obvious plot points left hanging. This just feels like buying time for the endgame episodes with lame attempts to make Eclipsa (and Moon, but not Star) SO RELATABLE AND FUN.

Yes and no. *MY* hating on was as a result of that bullshit silver bell ball episode. I was actually starting to like the guy following S2. He had seemed to have grown from the light antagonist he was in S1 and S2. He felt like the cautionary tale for guys getting infatuated with a girl, getting dumped, and going all oneitus on them and wallowing in self pity. And him finally moving on was nice to see. BUT THEN NOOOOPE.
So now? Now I'm relishing the lead up to that relationships demise. It fucked over S3 for no good reason and so deserves to burn in a fire.

For Star Vs. I think it's actually because Daron used to draw Star as a preteen, but it was Disney executives who suggested she make her a teenager in high school for the show. So while Star got slightly taller, the design stayed pretty much the same, including the flat chest. And then since I guess they didn't want Star to look particularly unusual compared to the other teens, pretty much everyone her age but Jackie was also made flat and for the show it just kind of became how teenagers look.

Some characters like Skullnick have actual breasts with cleavage, so I think it's more the overall style of the show than Nefcy being like BOOBS = BAD. Actually in her own art Nefcy draws boobs a lot.

His first appearance involved him trying to magically brainwash Star into loving him. His second appearance had him hire a fake guidance counselor to gaslight her into thinking she had no choices in life so she should get back with him like she's "supposed" to.

Both times he tried to murder Marco because he ruined the schemes. Tom was presented as evil until suddenly he wasn't because they realized he was popular and retconned him.

Seriously his whole character arc in season 2 revolved around learning that lesson and moving on. But then they decided that while Jarco had run its course the show still HAD to have a love triangle (with the "bonus" of pandering to Tom's fangirls on tumblr), that was discarded in a completely contrived way.

The whole setup of S3 was bullshit. After S2 showed that Marco couldn't go for 20 seconds without putting Star ahead of Jackie, somehow in S3 he's able to cut off all contact with Star for months to stay with Jackie. And on top of that he cuts off all contact with Tom, who in S2 he was closer to than any of his "Earth" friends, since that's the only way it's possible for Tom to have believed that Star was dating Marco. All of this is despite the fact that going to Mewni is easier than walking across the street.

And the writers knew how little sense all of this made, that's why they timeskipped their way past most of it so as to give the audience as little time as possible to realize it was bullshit.

Agreed, there was literally nothing important nothing established in Butterfly Follies.

Pie Folk was the less important one lorewise. Yeah, they got Moon back, but unless there's some Pie Lore about Festivia coming up that was essentially a recap of Butterfly Trap.

Disney authorized 4 seasons for a show meant to run 3 and the showrunner/directors didn't know how to plausibly stretch the original season 3 arcs into 2 seasons.
They were attempting to do a 3 act structure where season 1 was the fish-out-of-water premise, season 2 was the crisis and 3 was the setup for synthesis and conclusion. By adding another season, they turned most of 3 into filler shit, introduced or overemphasized what were intended to be shorter arcs, had Marco in a holding pattern, etc. and both Marco and Star ended up coming off as dicks you no longer found cute and perfect.
Nefcy should have stuck to her guns and kept to 3 seasons with a mind towards planning better on her next show. She instead opted to keep her friends employed for another year and this is what we got.

I think it could've even just been 2 seasons and end with Toffee's death, maybe if they'd dealt with the Meteora stuff early and did it less godawfully.

I don't know exactly how to work Eclipsa in there since that'd necessitate something different than a magical contract freeing her after his death, but there could've been something. Maybe she's actually fucking dead, like the fandom believed before Crystal Clear, and part of the Heinous stuff involves Star trying to make amends for Mewmans killing her mother for monsterfucking decades before (Eclipsa doesn't HAVE to be over 300 years old and I'm not quite sure why they did that. The Festivia stuff would be way more shocking if Moon's mother or grandmother was illegitimate and this was recent, rather than being so distantly related that she's not even related anymore anyway).

Maybe it could've been 3 seasons too with Toffee's death at the end, S2 mostly similar to how it was, and the Eclipsa stuff happening mostly in S3.

It's really pointless to speculate on how it could have been done better but I'm just trying to come up with ideas more palatable to me than what actually happened.

This episode did a lot to finally show Eclipsa not being perfect and being made to look bad/like a joke.

As the user who's bitched about the show "sucking Eclipsa's dick" I was very pleasantly surprised. I don't know how long this kind of thing will LAST or if Star doubting trusting her will pan out, but this episode was more in line with how I wish they'd typically write her if she's going to ultimately be "good."

Its surprising how relatively chill Eclipsa was after what the MHC did to her. She probably has some scheme rolling around to remove them from the picture for good once she gets her husband back because she knows those fuckers aren't going to let that shit go.

I take it as an inconsequential cartoon gag. But hopefully they do us all a favor a quit while their ahead.

As much as we would all love to see StarVs end on a high note or epic lore cliffhanger, I would hate to see opposite happen and have the writers/storyboarders completely shit the bed.

YES! Thank you. I'm glad I'm not the only one who was digging Star being so openly bi in this episode. Like she was enjoying herself in her typically Star way. None of it seemed out of character and it was done in a way where it didn't feel like they were trying to lecture the audience or prove some point. Star was getting off to the girl as much as she was getting off to Marco or other random buff dudes.
Plus, the episode was so fun and told its own story that Star liking both Marco and the girl were pretty much irrelevant.

She definitely is okay taking liberties in doing dubious or unethical things to get what she wants. She also has very little full control of her powers because she is pretty inexperienced with her magic, though it's incredibly powerful.

I have a feeling this will come back later in the season. If Eclipsa is not evil, she'll do things that aren't above board to get what she wants.
