if drawing were easy everyone would do it

show us your stuff OP. we won't judge.

hey I remember this book. pretty much got me into drawing as a little boy.
Luckily I don't draw in an anime style anymore

Not really, any bastard can draw. I can kind of draw and I'm bad at everything

keep practicing until you are 'in THE ZONE'

Attached: 3521.png (500x500, 142K)

wasn't there an "how to ink" book in this series that's basically softcore porn? they chose stuff like Bastard!! for the reference/examples

Yo I wanna fuck that cat

That's a no go chief.
Fuck this cat instead.

I had the How to Draw Beautiful Women, which in addition to being softcore porn and blowing my 11 year old pre-internet mind, was an interesting anatomy lesson.

Author?

>can draw mythical creatures, monsters, dragons and shit
>can't draw a human to save my life
I'll never draw my own lewds

Writing is so fucking hard for some people.
But you know what?
Writing = Drawing
And prove me wrong fuckers, they're still the same shit.

If Caliborn can do it, you can do it too.

>I'll never draw my own lewds
>can draw mythical creatures
You just haven't realized your potential yet. Draw mythical creature lewds.

Are this edits, right?

My frickin god, how can they publish this frickin monstrosity, they should have hired the artist, but in their eyes they thought all anime characters have big sparkling eye so let’s just publish this crappy tutorial book.

Honestly this series wasn't bad. The Bodies and Anatomy was pretty solid, and Couples and Animals I still use. They don't wack out the proportions much, and have good advice for foreshortening and characters physically interacting.

Afraid not mate

Those ones are actually good, though. They're just translations of Japanese art books, and I'm not sure why they get memed about so much.

That's nice.

i gotta a shit ton of how to draw books, some are very helpful while others i have, are just cash grabs. although online you can't go wrong with pinterest.

is that from one of those how to manga books? the artstyle is very familiar from one one of the books i have.

don't give up hope user, i've been there.

nothing sexy about a detailed back like that, hair needs more work too

It wouldn't be worth it if it was easy.

>wanna draw.
>ic doesn't help
>get no advice on how to learn how to draw comic faces or learn body

Because people confuse it for all those awful 'how to draw manga' books.

draw this

I dunno, fucking your mom was pretty easy.

Why is this so much worse than what's on the cover?

eeehhh no, that's just fanart i made today to show my skills.

in all seriousness, i never used those books, a cousin of mine had one but i was young back then and just simply had it as a diversion, the best tutorials are the ones at pixiv.

id reccomend this

I thought it would be easy. I watched some tutorials, and watched how some people draw my favorite cartoon characters. Today, the first day I started drawing, I tried to draw my favorite cartoon character and it was an abomination. I couldn't draw it at all.

I just want to draw simple cartoons...

They aren't. This and OP are from the same series. The other two posts are something different entirely.

yeah i got a couple of those books.
local thrift store was just giving them away.

This thread seems somewhat friendly. Not OP and absolute beginner (started taking it seriously a few weeks ago) but I'll post my stuff. Read somewhere about drawing what you see in real life and noticing lines and shit so lately that's all I've been doing.

Who the fuck is Robbi Rodriguez
For that matter what the fuck is preperation h, some sort of laxative?

Neat, a lot better than the how to draw manga books at the local library

seconding this is any drawfags/photoshopfags wanna take a stab at it

OK i'm done with this.

not a bad peni user
as for bodies, look up how to draw how natural human bodies and faces to learn the fundamentals of drawing people. you gotta learn the basics before moving forward

Hes doing the Art for Zoe Quinns book for Vertigo.
He also sent a pic of his asshole to Ethan Van Sciver on twitter.

Preparation H is cream for hemorroids to reduce swelling and hence butt hurt

yeah, i don't wanna end with a bootleg artstyle. thanks.

Forgot to mention Robbi Rodriguez "created" Spider Gwen while working at Marvel
he got mad at Cho for drawing her sexy and called Gwen his child, then told Cho he should be glad he does not run into him in person.

any scans of that Frank Cho book?

It was this one, by Hikaru Hiyashi.
There's a shitload of books in the series, though most of them are OOP.

I think i saw it in an old Mega but its taken down now.
you should try the free vid lessons by Proko on youtube, sort vids by Oldest first, start at the "Gesture" lesson and go all the way to Shading.
youtube.com/user/ProkoTV/videos?view=0&flow=grid&sort=da

I feel like I can draw half-decent, is just that I can't color for shit. I don't understand color palettes or anything like that, so everytime I try to give color to any of my drawings, it actually make them worse

Common mistake of trying to disguise a bad drawing with excessive coloring detail. Just work in your basic anatomy, my dude. Im not trying to be a dick, sorry, but that anatomy is horrible.

Not bad, but just as I said here work on your anatomy before jumping to coloring.

Again, Im not trying to be a dick.

Attached: anatomy.jpg (952x744, 133K)

That's actually a great place to start. Everything is just lines, just focus on that for a while, don't get too caught up with details- that comes later. Try finding a subject that interests you and try to draw it in 5 minutes. Constantly look at your subject (most people try to remember everything once and very seldomly glance back at the subject) and never fill in blanks using memory. After 5 minutes, stop and evaluate.

alright, when will i know to move on and what do i move on to?

the correction of the legs it's pretty good, thanks

>noticing lines
bro tip: forget about lines, think about forms.

A good start user pick up a book on anatomy that should help bug time

alright shapes and anatomy next got it! good thread.

Attached: glad it turned out this way.jpg (500x375, 52K)

It literally doesn't matter how good you are, all that matters is
>if you draw fanart
>if you draw porn
>if you are queer / poc

>Reverse Proko
looks very much like proko to me

Attached: 1485034141732.jpg (455x406, 25K)

Do you think learning how to draw properly will stifle your creativity or something? Do you think learning engineering will get in your way of becoming an inventor?

It's better to have someone who can evaluate it for you but if not, just remember the point of quick sketches is to drill that the "shape" is the most crucial thing and the backbone to every drawing. Like your hand sketches for example, focus on the structure first and don't rely too much on shading. Observe your fingers for example, they're not just straight lines right? Just keep repeating the same exercise, using the same subject until you see changes (or better if someone can actually critique you) and then, move from the form to the details then to finishing the drawing. Oh and it's better if you try various ways to draw first and see what you're comfortable with (i personally like a looser grip to create more fluid lines)

no, i wasn't being sarcastic. I agreed that I need to know fundamentals cuz I don't wanna end up with a wannabe anime artstyle. Looking back I understand how it might have come across that way lul.

Attached: laugh with you.jpg (565x407, 37K)

Damn, I bought a good majority of those volumes back when they were new.

>op tries to make a stealth HS thread
>botches it and turns into a half assed /ic/ thread
just put this horrible bastard child down jannies

thanks i'll keep workin at the fingers and show my stuff to an artist friend sometime

Oh sorry I misread it then, it sounded that way.
Either way learn things by the book, do some practice and gesture drawing but don't get caught up in the "grinding" thing, if you go on you'll see a lot of people stuck in that forever grinding phase.
Keep drawing things you like and use the books and exercises as a resource to fix problems you encounter.

You really only need 2 books
- How to Draw by Scott Robertson for perspective, read it over and over until you understand what it says
- A book on life drawing, either Loomis' Figure Drawing for All It's Worth, Hampton's Design and Invention, or Bridgman's Complete Drawing from Life. Any of these is good, only get the one you understand the best and stick with it.
You can go a very long way with just these 2 books, there are other resources for light and rendering and other things, but for the time being just focus on drawing volumes in perspective. Draw everyday objects too and sketch people a lot, you don't have to have a super neat sketchbook, even if you see someone's hand resting on a counter and you find it interesting try to take 20 seconds to sketch it and understand the forms, always try to feel the form of things.

meh there are more irrelevant threads up right now

Why are the faces and the profile pose done by obviously different artists

Quite a few of the How To Draw Manga books are softcore porn. The first costume encyclopedia is pretty good, though, its cataloged sort of like a fashion designer's guide to different clothing cuts.

I've heard that /ic/ is no good for beginners, except for the sticky.
This guy does a decent job explaining stylized designs. Scroll down to the end of this article and check out the bonus lessons.
thedrawingwebsite.com/lvl-1/

You'd have better vidya discussion on Yea Forums than art discussion on /ic/

Man, I want to have a "How to draw" storytime thread one day, I've got a bunch of awful art books from back in the day I wouldn't mind scanning.

Attached: 1497499661128.jpg (1500x773, 441K)

This is relatable. I too would gather assorted drawing supplies: various pencils and erasers, tracing paper, finally a drawing tablet... If only I wasn't so easy to distract I could've been somewhat decent by now.

"artist" is putting it lightly. Back when this was the hottest new meme I looked up the signed pages he sells on ebay and they were tremendously underwhelming and if memory serves, none of them broke the 3 digit mark if they even got a bid. Meanwhile, Cho's originals routinely broke the 4 digit mark.

>Cho he should be glad he does not run into him in person

Talk about making an ass of yourself.

It's like learning Chinese. But since Chinese kids don't know it's hard the learn it anyway.

literally me

Read the fucking sticky dude
Learn the fundamentals if you actually want to be about to produce consistent work.

reading the sticky only get you so far while actually having someone explain what you did wrong and tell you how to get better is another thing. /ic/ isn't the place for that, it's a cycle jerk of people showing off their art and getting mad at other peoples art

only if you're bad at tit

she was just a background character based on this. i commissioned a couple of pics from Madoc

Huh, how so its bad? it's perspective and she is supposed to ducking anyways

can we talk about software? how sinful is to use the 3D character modeling for drawing on Clip Studio Paint?

there's nothing wrong with using shortcuts / references and even tracing, just don't trace works from other artists

This explains this board so much.

1. Learn Loomis
2. Learn Preston Blair
3. Get Profit

Hi Greg.

I'm currently writing this post.

Like all forms of art, it requires practice, dedication, and refinement.

Very, very few people can just pick up a pen or sit at a keyboard or behind a camera and draw beautiful things, write a good novel, or shoot a quality movie.

Practice your heart off at whatever you wish to achieve. It's never too late to start and any limitations you think you have are just mental blocks because you're afraid of failing.
Keep at it and never give up. Start simple and work your way up.

Also, stop holding your pencil so hard.

can someone draw a cute anonymous (me) playing with the 1997 pippi longstocking

All ic artists are shit so I don’t think they are a good example of success.

Even Makeup gurus on youtube will talk about how makeup and color theory are important.

Walking around a ghetto puts a lot of things in perspective.

the important part is to focus on palettes and the "mood" they give.

I went through a phase of collecting fancy art supplies I never bothered to use.

These days I've settled on cheap sketchpads with a reliable 2H .5mm mechanical pencil and a Moo polymer eraser.

David Chelsea's "Perspective for Comic Book Artists." Which itself a comic book so it's easy to read through and absorb.

Work with what you know dude. There's a massive market for people who can do lewd dragons

This Loomis book has a few pages on perspective

What NOT to do. Draw individual features: a mouth, an eye, etc.
The right way is to rough in the figure as spheres, cubes, and cylinders. THEN and only then do you start adding human details.

Try books by Andrew Loomis. Old, but still unsurpassed.

I really don't like recommending Hampton to beginners. He frames his stuff as being for people relatively new to drawing, but he's actually for people like who already know how to draw but have a shaky understanding of form. Loomis is much, much better for people starting from the basics.

so is loomis body book the best way to learn. i have it and wanted to know how i am doing.

Anime and manga sucks

What am i supposed to learn after perspective?

Stop touching the paper, The oils in you hand will make the graphite stick and cause smudges everywhere.

>What NOT to do. Draw individual features: a mouth, an eye, etc.
It's a bit different for anime style faces, since the features only have a very loose correlation to an actual 3 dimensional shape. The only real way to learn how to draw anime faces is to copy drawings until you get a feel for it.

i feel you OP. besides lurking here, Yea Forums, Yea Forums, and /trash/ i also lurk /ic/. because of my ocd im retarded with doing things to the letter. i believed what a couple of niggas on /ic/ claimedfor and tried doing certain books in strict order so i wont be /beg/inner level.

my short attention span for certain things in books like Keys to Drawing or Fun with a Pencil prevented me from finishing them, illiciting some ridicule from some people there. ssome on /ic/ claim im retarded FOR believing the strict mymbo jumbo in the first place.

the fear also lead to me procrastinating a lot.
currently working through michael hamptons design and invention which seems to really appeal to me, as well as me actually learning more things.

trying to git gud so that mid april i can publish a comic in my community college's nespaper, i'll let you guys know how that works out in the future.

don't lie mate

dude just remember that humans are shapes eventually you'll make your own "base" of human-ness and it'll turn out great

Good luck, dude.

>burnt myself out on drawing shit to get into college
>got into college at the cost of my motivation
>barely ever in the mood for drawing anymore, gonna have to psych myself up into doing it

GODDAMNIT

>tfw want to draw qts and normal people but keep creating decrepit ghouls
send help

/ic/ was co-opted by douchebags who claim everything is shit, and spread rumors and gossip milling about artists just to fuck with them

Dude just learn how to make 3d models then learn how to cell shade then just trace em and boom! perfect anime
Thats how it works right?

If your gonna go with the japanese manga style, go with the old manga artists that look up American illustrators from the 1890s to 1970s to avoid getting the bad parts of emulating manga style. Japanese manga artists tezuka/that castlevania guy/bastard/berserk/shirow just emulate what they liked from mc escher/kay nielsen/gibson girls artist.

The obvious innovation of jap comics is their adaptation of basic filmography into comic pages making panels dynamic. Japs also expanded on comics iconography of the west particularly on jap manga faces and expression. Elaborate use of background sound effects too.

Man, I am actually might look for a full copy of it, its a great source of inspiration, because I am a spiteful person.

I wonder if the profile image was traced or based off something. Its very 90s.

Derp, forgot attachment.

Anime and manga is shit

Attached: 156160.png (1280x931, 308K)

It took me ten years of practice before I got to a point where I felt confident in my abilities to draw.

So for everyone starting out, you've got that to look forward to.

So I've beem fumbling around with making a comic about dwarfs, and since art supplies are expensive I've been trying my hand at Illustrator.
How is this? I haven't messed with shit like weightline yet because I'm still waiting for my Wacom desk to arrive and I can't do any better than that only with my shitty mouse.

Attached: cor.jpg (736x800, 475K)

also those greys are placeholders for the actual coloring I intend to do once I get a better hang of the progrem so ignore how shitty they look

No. This is wrong.

Monster Girls, son. Monster Girls.

every human i draw looks like a distorted police of shit

Wrong, manga artists practice real life figure drawing and then they learn good caricature.

yes but calarts came durning the caveman era.

I started by trying to draw Pearl from SU (who at first glance is just a stick figure) and it looked horrendous. Just stick with it and you'll eventually figure it out.

That's why "redline it" is a meme on that board. Everyone is a critic, but none of those fucks can actually draw.

>2-4 months on Charles Bargue
Are you out of your damn mind lol?

>porn is main inspiration for learning to draw
>nowadays have no desire to create porn
>zero ideas for sfw projects

not mine mate
not mine
yeah 4 month for both Charles Bargue and Ctrl paint is a bit too much
also should have cut that time constrain off since most of you are like spent most of the time watch tv and playing video game

how can I be this good?

this is just depressing

No worries user, I started as a guy who drew like his hands were broken and my imagination was almost 100% shit.
I was hoping I'd one day be good enough to draw cool things like what I saw in my mangos and funny books, and you know what?
Now I am, I can draw porn, manga, comics, the works, all thanks to being diligent and not giving up when I really wanted to kill myself for being terrible.
Hang in there user, if I could do it you can do it.

Attached: 1520042099518.jpg (423x383, 48K)

What kinda porn did you originally want to draw?

does it matter? the pic I posted sums a portion of it up anyway. are you going to suggest I do the trademark male writing trick of taking all of my fetishes and use them as the groundwork for a sfw comic?

I'd probably just recommend the exact opposite.

the opposite of which parts?

says who

>tfw cant do both
kill me aldready

Trust me, it isn't. I know people who can draw but can't write to save their lives.

thicc

I think I'm alright. I'm not good, never claimed to be good. I think I got anatomy down a bit but my drawings are very stiff and lifeless (even when I try to make them more fluid). Also, my drawings are very simplistic and flat. I think drawing is fun but that's as far as I go with it. I never show anyone my drawings because I know they're not impressive. Its alright though, I'm more of an editor than anything else. I'm pretty good at that and I can say that with confidence.

hot, i actually saved it.

i saw you on the pc engine thread the other day.

Bargue is the kind of thing you spend your whole fucking life on. Better to just skip it if you aren't trying to paint Renaissance style frescoes for wealthy people.

google Peter Gray mate

Oh, so that explains the outraged Gwenpool

your attempt at a stealth hs thread turned into a regular art thread

bless his little hart

The non-horizontal bra straps doesn't behave like fabric would, it looks like they're just painted on.
