Why is Jasmine played by an Indian?

Why do her clothes look like gaudy Bollywood costumes? Why does this bother me so much?

why not

They don't want to piss off Muslims by having her be how Muslims used to be 700 years ago.

The actress is cute but her outfit is bad. It's not even that it's not a bikini, the color design is really weird and doesn't fit the rest of the movie.

People are people yo

They should have set it in China.

She's supposed to be an arab, her dad is a sultan.

Indian you say?

Attached: nice.gif (320x240, 680K)

whats the difference

The production design is horrible. Looks like a 80’s sitcom

The Aladdin story has always been a weird mishmash of cultures written by people who had never been to those places, so I don't understand why it would suddenly bother you now. In the 90s movie she dressed like an erotic belly dancer as opposed to a princess and the original story from 1001 nights was written by a French guy who says he heard it while travelling in Syria and was supposed to be set in China.

Why does she look nothing like the one in the original film

This. It's garish and and the fabrics look cheap.

It honestly looks way closer to how a princess in that region at that time would have actually dressed.

Look at a map. Or look at an arab woman and then an indian woman.

>that region
Agrabah?

are indians even muslims?
i mean i can see half her tits

It confused me at first, but if you think about it for even a second it makes sense to include actors from all of the regions that Disney's Aladdin took influence from. Her tiger's name is Rajah for god's sake.

Hindu, typically.

Unless you want to go "it's actually supposed to be China" then Agrabah is mostly set in medieval Arabia (Disney was originally going to set it in Baghdad, but changed it because reasons), which was the Ottoman Empire.

It's still better than Pocahontas. "Hey, let's just clean up and disneyfy real historical events." that will go over well.

because this film is being made under the pretense of being more inclusive (its set in the middle east, so let the cast be middle eastern) but they aren't willing to put in the effort of really understanding Arabic culture and will grab whatever they deem 'looks' Arabic. This is where you see their real reason for making the film, a quick cash grab.

All this talk of China makes me wonder how a Disney take on Romance of the Three Kingdoms or Water Margin would have went down.

it's not an indian, it's a mannequin

Attached: *drinks tea*.gif (500x299, 591K)

God forbid Aladdin use Indian influences in its designs. We would never want that.

Attached: Aladdin_Palace.jpg (1912x1080, 466K)

they'd probably do lu bu's story since it's the one with the princess character in it.

I can easily see them pulling a Kessen 2 and have Liu Bei trying to rescue his beloved Diao Chan from the evil Cao Cao.

Cao Cao did nothing wrong, Guan Yu was an asshole, Tiger Family for life.

the whole thing is going to look like a low budget bollywood film anyway

This was probably calculated because if an actual Arab woman showed cleavage in a major Disney movie the muzzies would put a fatwa on her ass.

It's in a different fucking continent.

An extra dimension.

Because you're an idiot. The palace in Agrabah is basically the Taj Mahal in Agra. It's vaguely muslimland, which India was when the Taj Mahal was built.

There were sultans in India.

About 170 million

People just want excuses to complain that muslims exist. Either complain that they're conforming to your stereotypes, or complain that something doesn't. So long as you have something to complain about

You know in the 13th and 14th Century, the Middle East was at the forefront of like science and technology and enlightened thinking until the Mongols came and fucked everything up...right?

They're all the same to me.

aladifaggotboy was originally chinese in the storys. who gives a fuck

>Middle East was at the forefront of like science and technology and enlightened thinking
LOL

The Christchurch Community Theater was originally going to audition for the role today but they had to find a sub on short notice.

Which they in part inherited from the Greeks

No midriff = complete and utter fail.

Kek. Different skin tone and facial features

You know that was because they jacked archives and textbooks during their violent expansion, right?

They're too brown for Yea Forums's liking to have contributed positively to humanity in any way.

Is that the Pink Ranger?

>Implying the Roman's didn't steal most of their shit from the Greeks

Every great empire is built mostly on the shit they stole from someone else.

This is probably gonna get marketed the fuck in foreign shithole markets who like that sort of thing and don't find it tacky.

These live action movies are not meant to tell honest stories. They are not meant to be art. They are simply meant to rake in the maximum number of money from the maximum number of global audiences by any algorithmic marketing means possible.

Why they aren't uyghurs?

>Bollywood costumes
>gaudy
No shit.

Nobody wants to see your shitty OCs, go back to deviantart.

The mongols fucked everything in West/Central Asia in the 13-14th centuries, idiot

I thought that was the point the guy you were replying to was making.

Mughal architecture spans a pretty wide area; basically persian and indian influences combined.

small insignificant part

That is clearly based on the Taj Mahal. You won't find anything quite like it in Arabia; don't bullshit.

Taj Mahal is classic Mughal architecture. In fact, it's the BEST, most quintessential example of that style.

She’s so fucking hot I don’t understand

Some of them. Most of them are next door in Pakistan.

The time has come.

Wasn't he arrested for human trafficking?

Oh boy, wait until you hear about the Mamluks.

He's truly a sikh man

Quite the pun jab you made.

It's also in India and not even close to Arabia. If you object to the outfit in the OP then you should object to that just as much.

I have no idea. In my part of the world musicians are usually just war criminals.

>If you object to the outfit in the OP
No, not at all. Seems pretty appropriate to me.

Disney ever state explicitly whereabouts agrabah was?

The movie has a song called Arabian Nights. Also the sultan refers to Allah. It's pretty clearly a fantasy version of Arabia.

It's a hodge podge setting that itself is based off of a story that was set in China.

Persian

>You know in the 13th and 14th Century, the Middle East was at the forefront of like science and technology and enlightened thinking
>all borrowed from Greek philosophy and mathematics

>Why is Jasmine played by an Indian?
Because vaguely brown and being descended from somewhere in the Middle East/South Asia area is good enough for Disney. If 9/11 hadn't happened we'd probably be getting a more accurate live action Jasmine. Plus Naomi Scott has been in Disney stuff before so she already had her foot in the door.

>Why do her clothes look like gaudy Bollywood costumes?
Going back to what I said earlier, Disney basically thinks Middle East and South Asia are close enough that they can just blend them together and call it a day. They might also intentionally be trying to distant Aladdin from the Middle Eastern roots they gave it in the 90s.

I didn't know what middle eastern was as a kid (and I had a fuckton of arab classmates) so I thought Aladdin's setting was India. They look the same, basically bignosed white people with dark skin.

13th and 14th century BC, yeah.

>You won't find anything quite like it in Arabia
muhfucker you find onionbulbs allll over arabia and the europe-asia border. taj mahal is the most arabic building in india by far.

I rewatched the trailer and wow, the guy playing Aladdin actually does a decent job emulating the guy who voiced him in the 90s. Naomi Scott was autotuned to hell and back in A Whole New World, though.

I like them a lot.

yeah basically aladdin was the muzzy equivalent of dubbed anime. we'll set it in china for that 'exotic, far-away' flavor, but... it'll really be just like what our readers are familiar with, because they don't like things that are different from home.

>ACKSHUALLY it's set in china
The MOVIE which is what we are talking about is clearly set in what is overwhelmingly a fantasy version of Arabia.

Its because you're that retarded. Arguing over stupid shit when its painfully clear you're wrong.
The story even says it takes place in some city in china

Y'know, I wonder if such a structure is feasible in reality or if it would fall apart on itself.

>The story even says it takes place in some city in china
The movie or the original story?
If the movie, do you remember when or where - I don't seem to recall them saying that.

I try to justify Disney's Pocahontas as just being from an alternate universe where she was much older when she met John Smith.

Better than the time they tried to make real life look more grisly than it was.

Lets see its based off a book based in fantasy China, but the animated movie the location is based in Agrabah in fantasy arabia. Yet this new movie casts an indian actor for the arabian princess.
Almost seems like the entire thing has no clear goal and the whole thing is just hodge podge bullshit.

“Agrabah” was always a made-up mashup of Arabian and South Asian shit. Consider that the city in India with the Taj Mahal, which clearly was part of the location insp, is called Agra.

>source: your ass

>and was supposed to be set in China.

this factoid gets thrown around a lot with no context. far western china is basically afghanistan, and only came under chinese control in the last century

no navel/10

Where are you two getting China from...?

The original tale and it's origins?

Original story is about a fantasy muslim telling a fantasy sultan about a fantasy story about a China man and a lamp.
>this factoid gets thrown around a lot with no context. far western china is basically afghanistan, and only came under chinese control in the last century
Where the fuck are you getting this?

Isn’t it from a 1001 Nights story? If that was influenced by a Chinese story that sounds plausible but at hat point it no longer has anything Chinese left in it

I think it looks lovely.

Attached: flora-sleeping-beauty-9.61.jpg (210x240, 16K)

Also she owns a Bengal tiger named Raja, which is impossible to spin as an accurate middle eastern thing. Disney clearly didn’t mind throwing in rando Indian stuff in their fantasy land. The new movie having the same trait, instead of suddenly being a correctly Arabian setting for no reason, seems a natural translation.

It’s going to be as shit as all the other adaptations anyway.

Attached: giphy.gif (500x195, 466K)

this has no basis in reality

>Its because you're that retarded. Arguing over stupid shit when its painfully clear you're wrong.
>The story even says it takes place in some city in china
The story? Yes. We're talking about the movie you dumb shit. The new movie is an adaptation of the old cartoon movie. The old cartoon movie was clearly set in fantasy Arabia. Also the old story was of Middle Eastern origin and just set in China because it sounded exotic. You bringing up China just makes you look like a tryhard bragging about knowing some supposedly obscure fact which everyone in this thread already knows. It has nothing to do with the subject we're discussing, any more than if we were talking about Thor movies based on Thor comics and you kept going "BUT ACKSHUALKY IN THE NORSE MYTHOLOGY..."
You're not smart, no one thinks you're smart, and no one likes you. Fuck off and die.

What makes it even more absurd is that the original story takes place in china, not the middle east.

This the outfit really doesn’t fit the style of the film, it’s like she belongs in a completely different film

You're arguing over a thrice bastardized work if thats not retarded what is?
>You bringing up China just makes you look like a tryhard bragging about knowing some supposedly obscure fact which everyone in this thread already knows.
Its meant to say you're an idiot if you're looking for consistency in a fantasy novel or cartoon but clearly that point has flown why over your head.
> The old cartoon movie was clearly set in fantasy Arabia.
Just to fucking spite you i can argue it takes place in fantasy israel.
>BUT ACKSHUALKY IN THE NORSE MYTHOLOGY..."
I'd be right then too because without the norse mythology Thor wouldn't exist you unbelievable retard.
Fucking kill yourself for making people arguwe about a childrens movie.

Yeah because the Europeans didnt give a shit about the ancient knowledge and their Christian ancestors were the reason it was lost in the first place

> Europeans didnt give a shit about the ancient knowledge and their Christian ancestors were the reason it was lost in the first place

chinese history is full of weird shit my dudes

The one thing I hated about the Maleficent movie was how it made the godmothers total idiots.

The weird woman baby bodies didn't help either.

Attached: Mal-godmothers.jpg (1920x1080, 345K)

i think you forgot the part where he said
>in the 13th and 14th Century

ah yes.

>"""borrowed"""
>tfw Muslims preserved Greek classics because Europe wasn't responsible enough to preserve them on their own

Peace be upon you

Attached: 1551049013107.png (1357x1319, 1023K)

Why isn't she and Aladdin Chinese?

Especially when the godmothers did pretty much everything in the original

>"""Religion of peace"""
>Founded by a pedophile warlord and literally translates to "submission"
What did he mean by this?

Why AREN'T

In the original story they weren't Arab. They were Chinese Muslims.

"Arabia" didn't us to mean what it means now and people outside of Arabia worshipped Islam. It's vague muslimland, just leave it at that.

The readers of that story were Europeans, Aladdin got added in a French translation. See also: orientalism.

Is that the fucking cartoon with the space cowboy and the bipedal horse? That shit was mix of weird and decent.
Because 3D is PD.

a pedophile and homosexual warlord.
get your facts right.

There are like 6 major religions in India: Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Buddhism, Jainism and Christianity.

Jasmine is a persian origin name

Persian arnt arabs

porn star as your example.

>Muslim means Arab

Attached: 11638390-A883-48FA-B1B6-694FB3DC4F8F.jpg (1400x1400, 239K)

Actually, the Byzantine empire preserved all classical knowledge, and when muslim animals conquered Constantinople all the scholars fled into Italy, ushering in the Renaissance. This is actual history, before liberals infiltrated academia and subverted it to fit their evil narrative.

the fact they're in fictional Arabia means they're Arab you cretin

Persians aren’t Arabs, boss.

No one mentioned Islam, and sultan is an Arabic word for a type of ruler? The citizens of Agrabah are clearly Arabs. The religion part is a bit trickier, the sultan refers to Allah so they could be Muslims (of a much less conservative type than is common in the Middle East today, given their style of dress for women). Allah can also be a generic name for God/a god so they could also be pagans, Christians, basically anything.

They have non-white skin, tanned at the least (not sure but I think the bad guys tend to be less white looking than Aladdin in terms of facial features, although in terms of skin color Aladdin is pretty tanned). From what I understand the Persians who are brown only started looking that way after they got invaded by Arabs and mixed with them? So Aladdin & co. are Arabs, and even if they were Persian (not sure where you got that idea from?) they would be part-Arab.

Only if you ignore people like Thomas Aquinas

If you notice in the trailer some of the musical acts are very clearly being turned into Bollywood musical acts.

Its fucking weird.

No, unlike Emma Watson, Naomi can actually sing. So no autotune required at least not too much.

Because India and Indians are a market that it makes sense to target and Muslims kind of aren't.

>Roman's

Attached: image.png (720x529, 253K)

How the fuck was the 90's movie a mishmash of cultures, besides the Genie making pop culture references?

>BWEH WHY PEOPLE HAVE EXPECTATIONS I JUST EAT SHIT WITHOUT THINKING WHY CAN'T YOU

Always apologists with no standards or taste saying retarded shit like this. Fuck you. I hope you die today.

Sorry, it's just Barneybait

Where are my slutty outfits from the cartoon you disney bastards?

funny thing is, Aladdin was supposed to be Chinese. arabs had fascination to east as much as Europeans did. So whole Aladdin story was actually set in china.

It was written by a French guy anyway. Eurotrash didn't know anything about the orient.

WHY ISN'T BEN KINGSLEY PLAYING JAFAR YOU FUCKERS

There used to be more, but they decided to make their own country, without blackjack and hookers. So Pakistan was born.

And if I said I could tell the difference between white people, you'd be all REEEEEEEE!

The original tale as written in 1001 Nights was set in China

I don't care as long as they keep my favorite joke in the movie

>the princess...will marry...but you're so old!

>From what I understand the Persians who are brown only started looking that way after they got invaded by Arabs and mixed with them?
Well you're 100% wrong on that one, sport.

Because she's broen enough and hot. That's it. Hell, she doesn't even have the Indian nose.

why is the left one dressed entirely in roast beef?
