I storytimed this the first time it was done, I’ve read it several times and I’m busy so won’t be reacting or anything but I’ll be checking the thread, thanks for spreading the love around and helping people discover new stuff OP
And that's all I got. No word yet on whether a follow-up to 'Be Prepared!' is in the works.
If you enjoyed this, check out 'Anya's Ghost', and if you like the author's style she also has some short illustrated books aimed at younger readers as well, including 'Leave Me Alone' and 'The Little Guys'.
She’s also recently back doing film work, after previously having announced going to full-time on her books around the time Be Prepared came out. No word what the movie is but given she hasn’t relocated from Portland it’s probably another LAIKA production or Guillermo del Toro’s stop-motion Pinnochio, which is in pre-production there
Good find. >Jane is 13, looks nothing like your standard plucky heroine, and knows it. She lives in a fictional 18th century Maritimes village with her mean parents and is blamed for her baby brother being lost at sea years ago. But when Peter, her crush, is kidnapped by a beautiful mermaid, she puts aside her insecurities and dives into the sea to rescue him. With three gifts from a village crone, she swims down to find not only the mermaid, but all manner of monsters real and imagined. Sounds interesting, although I can't imagine this ends well for Jane.
Thanks for the story time user. It was actually one of these threads about a year ago (in fact 11 months ago) that got me to buy the hardcover version of this book. I also got the Spof cover of Anyas Ghost but havent read it yet.
I speak Russian, so I'll translate for you guys: "So prepare for the coup of the century Be prepared for the murkiest scam Meticulous planning, tenacity spanning Decades of denial is simply why I'll Be king undisputed, respected, saluted And seen for the wonder I am Yes, my teeth and ambitions are bared- Be prepared! Yes, our teeth and ambitions are bared- Be prepared!"

It seems like the Anya's Ghost movie that was supposed to film last fall is stalled in pre-production for now, for whatever reason. Probably a good thing as nothing about it made it sound like it was going to do the book justice Nice try, but I won't fall for your tricks Scar

Those Russians have good taste.
John Moore
ayyy, "Anya's Ghost" was great. thanks for sharing
Joshua Stewart
I think a key thing there is definitely that it doesn’t seem like they ever cast Anya - either they were having trouble finding what they wanted or maybe there was a clash with the studio about hiring someone who isn’t a big name. Either way, shit should be animated and it sucks it won’t be
Charles Rodriguez
Great reading, thanks OP. I hope there is a spanish translation somewhere becouse I'd love to gift it to my niece. Anyways, Vera...what the hell? A true russian would have captured the flag and performed a squat kick dance along the way
For anyone interested, the song does actually translate as "Be Prepared!", which is the motto of the Russian scouts (borrowed from the American and British organizations), and also the title of the organization's anthem. The lyrics in are from the first verse and chorus which translate (very roughly) as:
>Be prepared, scout, committed to an honest cause, >Though path ahead is hard, >Look boldly into the eyes of the unknown, >With cheerful body, thought, and soul!
>Be prepared, be prepared, >Be prepared, be prepared, >Be prepared, scout >Be prepared!
They tend to be more nonchalant than anything unless it's mating season.

>TFW I remember a gregory and I remember picking on him because for once I wasn't the freak It feels bad and at the same time I don't know.
Adam Wilson
I know what that's like. I was friends with my Gregory and he got me into scouts where I began to find him incredibly annoying and I joined the other kids in making fun of him. I actually kinda hated him for a while until we ended up at a new years party where we started talking again and and I realized he wasn't so bad and we've been best friends since. Ironically he's pretty much the only person I hang out with from my old troop.

So are adolescent girls actually as terrible as this and other media makes them seem
Tyler Wilson
Boys are just as bad. Don't fucking be fooled. They're just a lot more direct about it.

>tfw family is so mixed that I have no cool traditions with family members from "the old country" >grandparents all born in america and didnt carry on any traditions to my parents
Its a melting pot of cultures and now I have nothing unless I go through the backgrounds of my grandparents and pick and choose little pieces of culture like a vulture on a corpse.
you've got a blank slate to start your own traditions.
Gavin Nguyen
I know boys aren't that bad because I am one and never experienced anything like that kind of bullying as a kid. That's why I doubt girls are actually as mean as media often makes them out to be. Although maybe it is a regional thing or something
Sebastian Edwards
this was a nice change of pace.

I guarantee if you press them enough they'll have stories to share. My grandmother's family all came over from Bohemia in the late 1800s, but they were still teaching their kids Czech and practicing old traditions until the late 60s.

>fem"cel" takes any chance to bully an incel in hopes of becoming popular with stacy and chad instead of sympathizing with his pain
It's just like real life. I wonder if he'll shoot up the camp at the end.
