Imo Lydia seems more important than Marco at this point. We've gotten hints of his internal conflicts/backstory, but it hasn't come to a head like it did for Lydia. He's still just kinda supporting cast rather than a focus character, on par with Hana or Cillian

I don't think that's the problem, that's kinda just standard cartoon exaggeration. I think people just don't like the androgynous qualities he has in his facial features. That'll probably never go away completely given his preferences.

I do think he's also got a problem with making faces seem more three dimensional. There's a strange flatness to them when he draws them at a 3/4 angle. It looks like he starts with a boxy frame for the figure but leaves the face plane too flat or something. Sometimes it looks like he does the same with the bodies, but I suppose that suits the twinky body types he usually goes for so it doesn't seem as off. Did seem like he had some trouble drawing Cillian consistently though.

The independent pieces he does however seem much more refined. Maybe he just gets sloppy on the comic to keep up with his schedule.
