Storytiming Wrong Earth and then maybe some Zdarzky SSM, or maybe Weird Detective. Some fantastic and fairly recent stuff, that’s the theme.

Having read it, i like how the comic doesn't treat either of the two worlds as wrong or inferior. It would be easy to just go along with earth-alpha being silly

Yeah, it’s great in that regard. I find it strange that this was marketed as a satire when it actually takes itself surprisingly seriously, if anything it’s more of an introspection on bygone trends than a parody. Or maybe I just associate the words “superhero satire” with stuff like Brat Pack or Eddy Current.

Satire has just become a marketing term to make people who think they are too smart for stuff like this feel better about reading it.

But no Tom Peyer knows' superhero comics and so plays with tropes in a way where he can get a new perspective on them. I love how on the mark Omega-Dragonfly is with later Batman material from waxing about how it used to easier.

“Takes itself seriously” is probably the wrong choice of words. It’s just very genuine about its exploration of capeshit trends, it feels more like a celebration than a takedown. Which wasn’t the impression I got from the initial marketing.

There are already so many superhero take downs anyway. But if Marshal Law and the Boys can't take it down I don't think there ever will be that perfect takedown that will take superheroes off the table. I prefer stuff like this that feels more honest and doesn't try to sneer at either end.

It depends on the context and content, IMO a good bitter parody is a good story regardless. And there’s plenty of space for frustrated vent work, Brat Pack was wholly spawned by Rick Veitch’s bad experiences working at DC, and I find things like Mark Of The Brat to be genuinely funny. But I definitely understand being tired of it, it’s one of the go-to’s young writers print to establish themselves as a “real author”. I legitimately wonder if there’s any anti-cape Juvenalia from a writer who went on to work almost solely on cape comics, I’m sure it must have happened at least once.

On the same hand, Ted Mckeever comes off as a huge douchebag in Pencilhead. It’s always impressive when someone comes off as the antagonist in their own damn autobiography.

Well to be Alan Moore later superhero work vs his earlier stuff can be an example like with Tom Strong and Supreme.

Grant Morrison's Zenith while starts out that way than evens out more and more.

People forget about Bendis Powers series which at the time was seen as subversive by combining procedural with superheroes.

Mark Waid's Empire while not early is a very dark comic about Super villains at times feeling like a Mark Millar work.

Honestly, Dragonflyman’s arc in the dark earth absolutely makes this book. It takes this book from solid to one of my favorite comics of 2018.

The first issue felt kind of "meh" but I'll give it another shot.

I got hooked in about midway through the second issue. The first one really didn’t do it for me.

Zenith seems to be the closest to what I was thinking of. Powers is really more of an elseworlds than any sort of genre critique.

I felt similarly, the first issue is mostly just setup.

This shit is like if someone made an entire comic out of that one sequence in Batman/Planetary, i.e. it is perfect.

Pym ain’t got nothing on this man’s SCIENCE.

i love that they keep their "powers" consistent cross universe. mixups like this generally are always the fish out of water forcing the universe to work their own way, not adapting their tools to the universe

Love this. Really drives home that they would have turned out just like the other if they'd came up in the other Earth.

Now for a vote. I’ll be gone for a bit and then I’ll return to storytime something else. Either Chip Zdarzky’ Spectacular Spider-Man or Weird Detective by Van Lente. Which sounds more appealing?

That was a fun read.

Thanks for the storytime, OP. Can't wait to see where the story goes next

>Yo-Yo guy knew better than to come
heh. He really is the smartest of them all.

I appreciate the way the sillier, lighter versions of the characters aren't portrayed as less effective.
it feels like it'd be too easy to just have this vicious psychopath version chop them up.

why wait a year to finish this story?

So One Prime poisoned the water of other worlds by dumping all waste from his world into theirs? Why hasn't his dragonfly equivalent stopped him?

Are recs okay?

He’s either: dead, or unable to fight the good PR.

Writing, rewriting and paneling can be a long process.

I really hope he doesn't end up killing these guys

I kinda like Marshal Law and The Boys, but to me, superhero parodies where they're not showing complete contempt seem to work better. Law and The Boys work because of the strength of their writers, though, under a lesser writer the whole idea that most-superheroes-are-degenerates would've been unbearable to get through.

Oh my goooood.

Also I wonder what this is implying. Number Ones are all collaborating on poisoning their worlds as instructions from this One Prime?
Or maybe this One simply knows how to relocate all waste and negative issues into other worlds by using the mirrors as a syphon?

I'd be down for weird detective.

SSM sounds fun. I’ve been meaning to read it for months.

Go for Zdarsky's run. It's great.

Well Satan, good storytelling takes time.

A) you should do what appeals to you and (B) you should do it in a separate thread with it's own top image

I think they will be running a set of stories with the dragonflies in their own universes this year.

>police summoning GPS cuffs
My god I love this comic.

thanks for the storytime, I've already ordered the tpb after one issue
anything else you would rec from Ahoy?

wait the trade paperback is already available?where?

Their Edgar Alan Poe stuff is fun.

Ahoy Comics isn't a big company.
It isn't even in the top 10.

Smaller means slower, but usually higher quality on average.

J. Jonah Jameson in the middle panel

TELL WHERE YOU ORDERED THE TPB! I've been googling and I can't find it!

I don't think Ahoy is going to be alive by then.

Alright whoever the fuck came up with this has definitely had a lot of fun doing it.

Now this is some good capeshit. Also, Duece it top-tier waifu

Oh dear? What’s wrong with them?

>storytimes are always some of the best threads on Yea Forums
Especially when it's unknown but good stuff like this. Thanks OP.

The idea of “silver age Harley Quinn” had me rolling my eyes at first but she definitely won my favor in the third act.

I just got the biggest damn smile on my face.

fuck me this was better than i expected, and honestly i didnt expect it finishing the way it did

Normally this would bug me, but the bit earlier shows that the writers are giving both realities a fair shake.

If you're still accepting votes, I would like to see Weird Detective. Anything that isn't Big 2, really.

I suggest reading the back ups in the issues. Actually adds to the worlds.

Why hasn't marvel or dc gotten on this kind of thing? This is actually really good and makes me want to see more.

Bumping because I was in the earlier thread and checked this out.
Good stuff.

Nothing, I just don't expect them to go for too long.

great dumbass now they'll get serious.

>she joins the team as a suspicious batgirl, not as a reoccurring annoying catwoman
this story just keeps throwing me off the scent of what i expect them to do

>this kind of thing
Meta shenanigans? The big two are practically drowning in meta shenanigans. Really it’s the in-depth character study that makes this book unique. Zdarzky actually does something pretty similar with his spider man (which lost the vote so I might not get around to it tonight.)

Also everybody hop in I’ve got some Weird Detective going.

>Do you want to be.
Dragonflyman is too good for this world.

I didn't know what to expect but I had a really great time reading this. Shame we have to wait until next year for more.

They're going to publish The Second Coming, which will probably garner some attention at least.

Dragonfly and Dragonflyman #1 comes out on Free Comic Book Day.

Nice. Will definitely grab.

Not that user, but I found it up for preorder here: scorchcomics.com/products/wrong-earth-tp-vol-01-tpb
I'm vary of ordering stuff from some unknown shop tho, even if as an European shipping from England would not hit me that hard.

Hm, it's no up on Ahoy's website...

cartoony campy logic is overpower as fuck

I just found the preorder also on my local importing Polish shop's site, so I just wrote them an e-mail to ask what's up and if Bookdepository/Amazon is an option.

>anti boolet antidote pills

Oh so thats how its gonna be huh? This kinda comic book bullshit?
WELL THATS WHAT I LIKE!

Nice, mind popping into /shelf/ or something when/if you get a reply?

fuckin NOBLE BRIGHT vs GRIM DARK

Stardust is best example of silver age OPness

That was great. 2020 can't get here fast enough.

Ahoy wont live that long

WTH wasn't Flashpoint like THIS?!

Stop spamming this, it’s just a year’s time.

Because Johns is a hack

Bump

One Prime makes me think two things: Prime immediately makes me think Superboy Prime (a world where Clark is the only hero with no villains) and the scene we see at the end makes me think of Lex Luthor

I'm wondering if Earth Zeta has *no* Dragonfly which is why their One is able to be so successful (and it definitely looks like he's siphoning the pollution to the other earths), and that perhaps they'll need to find the earth with no One, an earth with a Dragonfly Prime. Or... something. Maybe One Prime is trying to kill all the other Ones so that he's the best One.

I bet Dragonfly would have murdered the kid who his counterpart is trusting.

When you think about it, is this really any more powerful than all the “I’m so tough/have such great armor I’m immune to bullets!” guys running around?

I'm thinking either
>One Zeta is One Prime, he created the mirrors and sent them to his alternate selves under guise of help from another world when really it was just his water scheme
Or
>One Prime is some sort of mirror/multiverse god and One Zeta using them like this is just unrelated

He's gotta be number one.

Now this is some golden age Batman and the Joker/Riddler shit, nice.

Thanks for the storytime, OP

You fool, if he's as paranoid as you think he is this will obviously be a booby tra-
Oh. It's still a trap you know.

Because using the meme 60's Batman that's been a joke for decades is too cliche for most writers. Not Peyer tho

So I'm guessing they never invented the vast network of pointless trivia and circlejerking fanatism known as The Internet in the alpha world.
Snitches in ditches.

Thanks for the (late)storytime OP.

Maybe One-Zeta is the Richard Fame of his world

Holy shit, thread is still alive! Glad more people took interest in this comicbook.

Thanks, user, preordered. And thanks OP for storytime.

Alright I'm staying In this thread. That was great.

Right? And he's trying to hit them skins, too.

This book is amazing and Dragonflyman is precious, so bump, I hope more anons read it.

>its probably going to be a pre death and pre swap considering that cover
well color me intrigued

Ok, now i understand why the criminals mostly run free. In that world it makes sense.

What are you going to do, imprison dat ass?

Never. That should be preserved for the future.

Bump

Is he cutting his wrists and then transfuses blood from his henchmen?

Yeah, it seems he needs blood for something. Maybe it will be revealed later with omega one?
