Apu is staying on the Simpsons but he’ll undergo some changes

Apu is staying on the Simpsons but he’ll undergo some changes.
>The Simpsons showrunner, Al Jean, has admitted that while the controversial figure of Apu Nahasapeemapetilon is still being kept on the show, the character is still a "work in progress."
>"I apologize for anyone who was bullied because of Apu. I hate bullies," Jean told The Daily Beast. "I was bullied, and if you're a bully I'll kick your ass, so certainly that was wrong. But as a writer, I always wanted to make Apu an original character -- more noble, more hardworking, and more intelligent than the average Simpsons character." Jean made it clear the creative team listened to concerns and also pointed out Apu did come off inspirational to others in the past, and not just as a joke.
>"When we were doing Episode 4, there was a big joke that Reverend Lovejoy didn't even know what religion he was, and Apu was just being this wonderful volunteer fireman, and there was an article in the Guardian recently by a South Asian writer who said that moment made him feel really proud," Jean continued. "So I think there are a lot of things about Apu that have made South Asians very proud, and it's a very complicated issue. But no one should be bullied because of him, and I'm very sorry about that."
>As for what changes were being implemented, Jean wouldn't say much as Season 30 only kicked off last month. "It's a work in progress. That's all I can say," he concluded.

Imagine still being a 'work in progress' after thirty seasons.

The Simpsons was a joke after so many phoned in seasons, now it’s just pathetic.

This is what they should have done from the start just say "Hey, we get that this being the foremost representation for Indians in pop culture can be trying, but there really is no malice in it." and carry on.

>I always wanted to make Apu an original character -- more noble, more hardworking, and more intelligent
He's already all of these things though. No fans thought he was a shit token stereotype (despite him being such), it's just that one faggot who used the character to boost his own popularity and the media latching onto it for clicks that started the whole idea that a Simpsons character of all things was offensive and needed to be removed.

I've been doing some thinking, and I got some ideas to improve the show. I got it right here. Uh, one: Apu needs to be louder, angrier and have access to a time machine. Two: Whenever Apu’s not on screen, all the other characters should be asking, "Where's Apu?"

>I apologize for anyone who was bullied because of Apu

No one was bullied because of Apu, they were bullied for being Indian/Pakistani/miscellaneous brown. I'm a white hetero male, still got bullied in school because hey, people are terrible and kids are even worse.

Why can't The Simpsons just shut up about Apu? It was a non-issue anyway because they already felt weird enough about Apu that they decided all on their own to stop using Apu YEARS before "The Problem With Apu" came out. That's right, Apu hasn't had a line since 2016. After the documentary came out all they had to do was put out a statement of "Sorry our character affected you in this way, we'll be more thoughtful in the future." THAT'S IT. If they just did that then it would have immediately blown over and no one would have ever talked about it again. But instead they just can't stop bringing it up over and over again and fumbling every single time.

>feeling proud because of a fictional character in a teenager's cartoon

Are pajeets retarded in the head or something

>why is a creatively dead show trying to get attention

>apu returns
>literally the exact same as before
>even same VA
>SJWs will still pat themselves on the back

>Apu did come off inspirational to others in the past, and not just as a joke
Can confirm, vegans really love him in Argentina and use giant prints of him for their stores and events and dismiss Lisa as a poser

>always wanted to make Apu an original character -- more noble, more hardworking, and more intelligent than the average Simpsons character.

Litreally already done

This is so surreal, what a bunch of stunted adults

jesus even more intelligent than he already is? did they forget this is a comedy show?

>unironically apologizing for people getting bullied for a character

If that's the case why not apologize for every fat or nerdy character in the show? I saw way more kids growing up getting called fucking Milhouse or teased for sharing attributes with Ralph, Martin, Homer or Uter. Kids will make fun of fucking anyone for sharing attributes with some random cartoon character even if they're a positive one (which Apu IS).

That quote in the OP really does make it sound a lot like that.

Attached: 983948.jpg (640x480, 42K)

Thank fuck. Writing him out would be the stupidest thing they could possibly do.

>We hear you guys
>He needs to be more special now
>Because he's a pajeet

Clown world

>just that one faggot
i know boomers who unironically call most indians "apu"
the "one faggot" wasnt just wailing about nothing.

>"I apologize for anyone who was bullied because of Apu."
literally who?

>"I always wanted to make Apu an original character -- more noble, more hardworking, and more intelligent than the average Simpsons character."
>instead of a convenience store owner, he is now a Google software engineer
So racism, but in the other direction? Ok, lol.

And yet they haven't bothered to give him any lines or have Hank voice him in nearly THREE years.

imagine being this fucking pathetic that you feel bullied by a cartoon character

Imagine caring about the Simpsons after season 10

Sneed

>Why can't The Simpsons just shut up about Apu?
because it's a billion years old, nobody likes it anymore, and they need media publicity to get people to tune in?
That's why they're doing a fucking gamergate episode in 2019.

Just replace him with Manjula.

Attached: Manjula-Nahasapeemapetilon.jpg (566x320, 20K)

>That's why they're doing a fucking gamergate episode in 2019.
Wait what?

Imagine a single crybaby on twitter making you re-think a character you've had for thirty years

They did. They said that there's no real pleasing everyone and that there's nothing wrong with that, especially as times change.
Lisa literally said that in an episode.

Then a few weeks later they caved anyway. They're stuck in a social media bubble and lack the spine to tell people to fuck off.

Apu takes off his wig to reveal he was Apollo Nightcorn, a half black half native American man from Capital City this whole time, only to resume his double at the end of the episode promicing to tone down his racial overtones

The progressives grabbing onto this rotting carcass of a show makes no strategic sense to me.

he’s talking about this
>Bart vs. Itchy & Scratchy
>Original Airdate: March 24, 2019
>"Krusty releases an all-female reboot of "Itchy and Scratchy," so Bart and his crew of all-male friends decide to boycott the show. After Bart's friends turn on him for laughing at the reboot, Bart joins a woke group of sixth-grade girls who commit crimes against patriarchy.[3]"
Tho this sound more like a Ghostbusters reboot episode to me... which might be even worse because at least dipshits on Twitter STILL whine about gamergate. Who gives a fuck about the Ghostbusters reboot in 2019?

Attached: D7EAC10C-0057-409E-8087-F2908BBEFC8E.png (3840x2160, 2.06M)

In this same interview, Jean also said that he made the decision to pull the Michael Jackson episode out of syndication because he thinks Michael used the episode to help groom kids

It's time to let old things die.

Are they supposed to be looking at Bart in this shot? Their eyes look off

>Their eyes look off
because nusimpsons design eyes are fucking terrible.
They started drawing eyes like that for new characters because celebrities were too vain to have stylized bug-eyes and it's just snowballed and fucked everything up.
Like shit, I'd be so much more okay with it if they just looked like Simpsons characters instead of overdesigned deviantart OCs.

Also the cheekbones.

Deep down it's really about Captain Marvel.

Al Jean is a cuck: first the MJ thing, now this.
Anyway, I don't see why we should really care: anyone who watches whatever The Simpsons these days is already retarded, so let them have their sanitised piece of crap.

Simpsons is becoming the most cucked show on television.

I was about to say, holy fuck.

The current stereotype for indians is that they shit in the street and are all tech support scammers. Meanwhile Apu has a real job, is a diligent worker, and a devoted husband and father. He gets along well with the other citizens of Springfield.

He's a goofy stereotype but so is literally every other character on the show. There's no more reason to get buttmad over Apu as there is about Comic Book Guy or Krusty or Homer Simpson.

>I feel we should WOKE-ify him by 30%

Attached: Poochie.png (460x570, 100K)

But you didn’t answer the big question: Does he shit in the streets?

Course not. Its just a shit comic trying to guilt his way into a job.

Fuck him.

Didn't Al Jean defend the Apu character and told fans to chill out? I think he wrote that episode with Lisa lecturing the audience about old things being offensive with the Apu picture at her side (unintentionally the staff admitted The Simpsons is old and outdated)

Regressive progressives literally have no endgame, they literally just want to infest every hobby on Earth and make it untenable for the original fans. It's an inherently hateful ideaology. They want everyone to be as constantly miserable as they are.
>NO FUN ALLOWED

Attached: 1547955087534.png (321x322, 162K)

All this controversy about Apu, yet no one ever brings up Ralph Wiggum, who is probably the most offensive stereotype in the show
>Mentally retarded
>Does gross and strange shit
>Overweight
>No positive traits other than "being cute"

So basically Marge.

He’s white.
Well, he’s yellow but the point is he’s an acceptable target.

I thought it wasn't okay to make fun of retards no matter what color though

Well, if we go by those black kids that tortured a white mentally handicapped kid on live stream, I’m pretty sure white retards are an “acceptable” target.

Marge and Lisa have several thousand no fun babies and now they're complaining about Apu online.

The second part is my problem, along with not going on record with anything but limb wristed PR statements and refusing to make a proper statement.

If they'd just aknowledged that shit was being slung and owned it, it would have taken all the wind out of the sails of the people complaining.

By handling it the way they did they made themselves look like aknowledged they were in the wrong.

I doubt anyone is going to stop bullying Indian kids by calling them Apu, just because the character changed.

>This
>”MJ wanted to promote male grooming”

Can we all agree Al Jean is a hack?

>sjws whine about "unrealistic standards" in media
>then they demand that a character be "upwardly mobile"
That's the most unrealistic standard of them all.

Jean has really been shitting out of his mouth this week.

Honestly just lose Quimby and make Apu mayor, boom, "enlightened."

Loose a tired womanizing Kennedy parody and adulterer, and a dark skinned dude gets a big promotion, the bleeding hearts would eat that up.

Attached: 1539696517568.png (1000x971, 410K)

Yup, fuck him.

Why would anyone waste their time trying to bilge this sinking ship? They should have hired the vocaloid crew to make synth cast voices and slash their VA budget to 1/10th a decade ago.

Why does this look like cheap Flash animation?

Based Wormwood poster.

Seriously, No one cares anymore. They must be courting controversy on purpose.

Jesus those females and Bart being right next to each is extremely awkward. I hate when cartoons make the background characters look more detailed.

This is the only wormwood comic I found funny, mostly because I’m from /int/

Imagine art not evolving in any way after 30 years have passed and more than a hundred different writers have taken on the project and then passed it along.

When the only pop cultural icon from your ethnicity does something good, you get to feel proud. Its the rules.

>Apu hasn't had a line since 2016
Really? Wow.

I know Indians who respond with angrily when you say "tank you, cum again"

>"I always wanted to make Apu an original character -- more noble, more hardworking, and more intelligent than the average Simpsons character."
>don't worry the brown character will be portrayed as superior to the loutish whites
>all things are determined by race
SJWs must be thrilled.

Crazy people come in every color, user.

Just have an actual Indian guy voice him and not a white guy impersonating a white guy impersonating an Indian guy

>Regressive progressives
Knock that horseshit off, pigfucker.

America will never be socialist. You will never be an apparatchik aristocrat.

All those traits just make a boring character. Take Token Black in South Park for example, his gimmick is that he's the black kid who's actually well-mannered, rich and nice to others. But no one really likes him as much as the other boys because flawless characters aren't very interesting. No one really dislikes him either but it's worse being mediocre than hated.

>apu
>not hadji

They won't stop talking about him because the Apu shit is the only reason the Simpsons is being talked about. I wouldn't be surprised if publicly pulling the Micheal Jackson episode was designed to do the same thing. You don't usually pull things publicly, especially something so old. You just have people notice like six months later that one of the season 3 episodes is missing, and then the controversy happens. They want the controversy immediately, while it's big.

Really, I'm just relieved that they finally realized the Problem with Apu guy was just supremely butthurt.

Wow, that's an awful comic.

It's the same reason they're doing the itchy and scratchy episode.

He's already a college graduate with a loving family
What are they gonna do to him?

You're either a middling troll or a colossal mong. Oh, Poe's Law, help me in my hour of need!

You are not welcome here, Kondabolu.

Why did people ever think Apu needed change?

1. A wholesome episode about mental illness and why you shouldn't prejudice someone for being crazy.
2. We got to see homer character develop.
3.'"Lisa its your birthday! Happy birthday Lisa!"= pedophilia now?
4. Flanders is ridiculed for being a Christian, and his religion is constantly made fun of yet I see no backlash, but with apu it's a travesty.
Really makes you think

Attached: MjtciuH.jpg (580x424, 39K)

There's no regressive progressive boogeyman. This is simply social media at work. People do everything in function of social media and coming across as a modern, progressive person gives you a fuckton of brownie points. All this indignation about fucking everything is just a form of self-advertisement.

I will always remember when I went on a trip with a friend of mine many years ago and we went to a museum and he didn't for one second, not even once, look directly at the paintings. He just took a photo with his fucking phone so he could post on facebook how the museum was the best thing ever.

Basically what used to fuel religious fervor in the past now fuels social media. People feel so much need to fit into their community that they go literally insane.

>There's no regressive progressive boogeyman
There definitionally is, as there would be no brownie points without regressives.

Also, obligatory
youtube.com/watch?v=F68l9FozxJ8

Not a bad deal. Quimby has been rung dry of all the good jokes you could get outta him at this point.

MAKE MY CULTURE FOR ME WHITE MAN!

Tress MacNeille isn't asian but she voices Cookie Kwan just fine.

Who the fuck thought those designs were a good idea?

The more one learns of India, the more one wants to vomit.

Can the Simpsons just end instead?

Yea being called apu is too good, pajeet is proper term.

How? (children didn't work on The Simpsons)

She dead

Groom them?
Like what, with a comb?
The fuck is grooming?

Kids aren't even the target demographic for The Simpson's anyway. It's an adult comedy cartoon. Yes The Simpson's is the most tame of them all but parents in the early 90's never let their kids watch The Simpsons.

I was bullied because I was prematurely balding, they called me Homer and shouted "D'oh!" at me.
Al Jean needs to ban Homer, because this isn't okay.
He NEEDS to do better.

It's an accurate description. These dense fuckers are so ignorant and lacking self awareness that they don't realize they're making things the exception and not the rule

>imagine being bullied as a child for so long that literally one bad comment by some random nobody makes you so depressed that you remove a popular character from a show you're working at just to please a small minority that's not even your target audience

This actually wouldn't be the worst thing, can't even remember the last time Quimby was even relevant.
Everything about that episode just seems awful...
user, you're making too much sense, you're gonna offend their delicate grasp on reality.

SHAMONA

Every 7-eleven I go to have indians behind the counter.

Dunno if this is just east coast thing

I don't see anything wrong with this. He's saying that Apu was never meant to come across as a bad stereotype, they're keeping him on the show, but looking into how to make everyone happy.

I know the Simpsons is complete and total garbage now, but give a little credit where it's due.

>There's no regressive progressive boogeyman. This is simply social media at work.
I think it's a combination of the two. One begets the other because one becomes the other through the process that you mentioned.

first Michael Jackson using Stark Raving Dad to groom more boys, now this? Al Jean is on full damage control isn't he

Wow only one year after this shit happened.

Yeah. I mean, if they'd actually taken him off I'm sure everyone would also bitch.

This kind of feels like non-news honestly, or even what they should have initially said in response to the Problem with Apu controversy like 50 years ago or whenever that was.

No one has ever been "bullied" because of a fucking cartoon character. Get the fuck out of here with that.
