It was weird how Spider Noir would make a point of saying that he "punches Nazis" if he's meant to be from the 30's. Most of the US were either indifferent or fond of national socialism at the time because of the great depression and the isolationism movement, and it wasn't really until 1941+ that the Americans, being johnny-come-lately as always, began fighting the Germans.
You'd think as a private investigator he'd be fighting the mafia, an actual present threat during the era.

Noir is specifically a post world war 2 thing, though. It was a reaction to a generation sort of soaking in the aftermath of the war, just like dada and absurdism were for world war 1.

Which also seems to prove that the people who wrote him (or at least for spiderverse) doesn't really understand what noir is, or what time period it is from. Too much having their cake and eating it to. He's a private eye, from the 1930's, a Nazi resistance fighter (in the US apparently. I guess his dimension takes place in the same universe as Man in the High Castle) but he's also quirky and uses 1920's jargon.

But I think the weirdest aspect is that all the other spider people live in pretty undefined eras. If you went to Peni's dimension you could go 20 years backwards or forwards in time and you'd likely not see massive change. But just add 10 years to Spider Noir's dimension and it's supposedly the 1940's, then the 50's, 60's etc. Is he going to stay Spider Noir even when the time period moves past black and white film and the spy-genre he's based on? Would Miles be able to visit Spider Noir's dimension several decades down the line and find he's now a hippie in the 70's?

Autistic as it might be, I don't know why they'd tie him so specifically to a time period, and then get the time period completely wrong. That's just poor writing, which is sad considering how amazingly well it portrayed the rest. Miles is easily one of my favourite characters after watching Spider-verse.

Gwen struggling with the symbiote then reaching a rhythm with it was more interesting than her love-hate relationship with Evil Matt Murdock.

Gwens struggles should be internal as well as external - the symbiote means she won't lose her powers, but it should also push her to be more violent/extreme, until she reins it back in, a constant war for control and hitting the sweet spot of not too cruel and not a doormat.

Since Miles is only half black I think Gwenom is blacking Miles at that point rather than the other way around.

Gwen is her own character, but original Gwen was killed in the 1980's (?) - her characterisation was heavily influenced by the way women in comics were written 1960-1980.

There was opportunity to use this in the film and they chose not to. I guess it was pretty crowded already to be fair but there's some lost potential here. Peter B. Should have called her on her apparent death wish. It's not normal for a teenager, no matter how heroic, to so cheerfully volunteer for a clear suicide mission.

Going by the "double the budget for advertising rule" (which may be overzealous for this one) it made a small profit on domestic and did very well overseas. It's enough that Sony wants to make more movies. Blu-ray sales will probably be a big impact on their decision too, I'd imagine.

I just finished watching this and I fucking loved it. I'm a Spider-Man fan in general (I don't really follow ASM any longer, but I've read quite a fair bit + most of Ultimate and, more recently, the recent Spectacular Spidey run) but I never really read anything with Miles nor Spider-Gwen.

The director has some genuinely idiotic views, but the idea of Noir's adventure's taking place in that timeframe is something to think about. The wild brawls between the two, and sometimes three groups. The fucked up morality of what was basically groups of shitty people going after each other and the political structure that served to protect the gangsters who were doing the beatings.

Noir could have a storyline from this. On the one hand, the Nazi associations needed to be interfered with and broken up, but on the other hand the Jewish Mob was still the fucking mob and speaking out and going against them might win you points with the council leaders but it could get you shot by even random civilians

Six Warriors first and ignore whenever MJ mentions she's married, then Return of Hydroman pt 2 but pretend she is water because Electro hit her with energy, then Return of Hydroman pt 1 backwards, and Mary Jane gets resucked by the portal into a dream reality, then Secret Wars and Spider Wars, then Peter brings her back out of the dream reality, then the first episode of the season.
There, Mary Jane and Peter are married and she was never cloned.
