Foolduke was cute and funny. Her and Ruberiot's return was probably the highlight of the second episode for me. Tom calling both Star and Marco was cute, if a little sad. I'm glad Moon is back, but I'm certain it'll be weeks until we see her get her memories back. Also, we got some cool in-show perspectives on Mewni history and society, so we'll probably get more.

I know we weren't getting a Battle for Mewni style opening, but it was still underwhelming. Glossarcyk freaks the fuck out over Globgor for an entire fucking season and Star doesn't even try to get Glossaryck alone or talk to Eclipsa about ANYTHING. There wasn't even any development of the romance drama.
I wouldn't even call the episodes bad, but it's not the way I would have wanted the final season to start out.

I think Escape from the Pie Folk, animated by Sugarcube, looked better than Butterfly Follies animated by Rough Draft Korea.
Sugarcube no longer seems to look really stiff and obviously computer-animated, and Star and Marco looked better generally in that one and more like teenagers. In Butterfly Follies they seriously seemed to look like 10 years old for a lot of the episode. And I know they almost never look their actual age in general, but it really felt like in that episode they were drawing them much younger and rounder even compared to the usual.
I don't even really think about the different studios much but the difference seemed pretty blatant this week.

I'd guess Star just felt awkward about saying YOU SHIT IN THEM when River was so interested in the toilet, or it just wasn't a great joke/maybe whoever on the crew wrote that really thought they shouldn't have Mewmans shit but everyone else thought "no that's dumb." Though I think the Ludo joke could also be taken as him just sounding like a perv wanting to watch her shower too.

It also doesn't seem like Mewmen are banned from Monstertown, since you can see some Mewmen working in the castle.

I got reminded of the episode when someone complained the new monster designs in season 4 were too "cute" compared to earlier monsters.
Most of the monsters we see in season 1 were soldiers in Ludo's army. During the interview for the evil advisor position, it was mostly "civilian" monsters who showed up to apply for the job and a lot of them didn't look so tough.

Soldiers and guards learn to trust each other very fast as their lives are on the line.
Keeing figures of authority mixed also avoid power-drunk groups to take over and increase civilians trust.

Seriously this. They made terrible choices on what to put in the S3 intro. I guess they didn't want to spoil that Toffee was getting taken out so soon, but they could've easily handled that by not even including the intro for the initial run of Battle for Mewni and formatting it like an actual 2-hour TV movie.
Of course we'd still have the same problem in S3 if the intro had depicted Meteora as the main villain, since she's now a baby in S4.

I'm almost certain Eclipsa isn't really, totally innocent. Did anyone notice the almost ominous musical cues that played when they first arrived in Monstertown, or Eclipsa's shady behavior as she was trying to get Marco to tell Star that Moon was dead? Her spell not working on Moon? Glossaryck subtly telling Star she's made multiple mistakes, and spending last season yelling about Globgor for some reason, which Eclipsa never bothered to clarify what he was saying? Even last season, it was incredibly suspicious that she told Moon she didn't know how to do wandless magic only to instruct her, right after, on how to perform wandless magic.
Not to mention that background artist on the show who posted a background which showed six hands, wielding the color of Star's magic, fighting against another, six handed magic wielder with a green color.

Perhaps I've been playing too much Cultist Simulator recently, but the moth thing from the piefolk episode really intrigued me.
Even outside the game, the moth is associated with change, chaos, uncertainty. Star had known her mother's little trademark on pies as a butterfly all her life. But according to the piefolk, (who as it turns out, have a much deeper connection to the Butterfly family than we thought) that symbol was always a moth, not a butterfly.

Shastacan was murdered right after Festivia arrived (most likely by the High Commision) he didn't rise her, Hekapoo did by making her travel to the places of her choice.

In S3 Eclisa wears two wedding rings in some scenes, meaning she couldn't get a divorce from her first husband.

Plus Star was the princess, not the queen. I think Star was basically trying to get Mewmans used to monsters so it wouldn't be such a drastic change when she eventually came to power and wanted to give everyone equality.
Although it'll make me wonder how Moon will react to this once she gets her memories back. The wand was Stars, but the Queensland was Moon's. On the other hand, Star was Acting-Queen at the time, so I supposed the transfer of power was still legitimate.

You'll get no argument from me. Nefcy even said there's rarely additional budget for generating a new intro. It seems strange that the crew decided to keep those aspects as the first things you see when the show starts to play...
This is actually the first criticism that I consider both unbiased and valid. Perhaps it has to do with the identifier Star was looking for. "Moon", as Star knew her, no longer existed. Same goes for "Mom". Instead, only the "Sky Baker". It isn't like Moon was trying to hide her identity and it was something to reveal. She herself was unaware of it. As far as the multiverse was concerned, Moon had ceased to exist, so Star asking the spell to find her returned an error 404.
