Are there any other shows that redeemed themselves in the finale? I'm genuinely asking, this isn't a stealth SU thread. Most shows, especially contemporary shows, shit the bed with their finaly. Adventure Time being the best example of this. Good shows have bad finales and good finales. Bad shows have bad finales. I can think of not one other example of a show that was losing steam and then had an amazing finale to make up for it.

>redeemed
I would argue the point
Primarily on the point that that wasn't the finale, nigga
I still don't know what they were thinking, that was the perfect place to end it all on the strongest possible note they could have, this is like what happened with Supernatural back in the day.
I wouldn’t say it “redeemed” the show, and honestly I’m glad the show isn’t 100% over because some characters absolutely needed more time to get fleshed out, but honestly there’s a great bit of poetry that the one 2010s animation finale Yea Forums unanimously agrees on is for fucking Steven Universe.
It’s almost like making a show off certain premises and delivering on those promises is... a good way to write?
How did Steven Universe redeem itself? I've followed the Show religiously for years and the way it ending was so soul crushing
CYM sucked donkey balls
Scrubs went on with a new cast, Spongebob went on after the first movie, American Dad went on after the hot tub episode, Simpsons went on after Behind the Laughter. They're all pretty much finales even though the show went on after them, and can be discussed as if they were the finale.
Granted, we haven't seen SU post Change Your Mind, but I guarantee future discussions will split the series between this episode.
>Yea Forums unanimously agrees on is for fucking Steven Universe.
Not even true
>delivered on promises
literally the one promise made was that Steven wouldn't handle white like he did the others and it was a lie
I guess you skipped most of the time after the finale where pacing and the resolution were being shit on and fans even placed it after AT's which they didnt like
Should I watch this? I was put off by all the drama regarding Social Justice Warriors who like the show. Similar to the Captain Marvel situation. That brouhaha surrounding that movie put me off from watching it because I don't want to get involved in some stupid culture war that I'm not even a part of. Doesn't help that it wasn't THAT appealing to me at the time.
The drama is meaningless and retarded, try watch at least a few episodes from S1 and see if you like it. Consider tho that at the start the show followed a monster of the week formula that doesn't really characterize most of it's seasons
It really isn't worth it.
First two seasons are alright and max comfy which you might enjoy, but most of the actually interesting story stuff in them and afterwards is surrounded by countless episodes of filler that serve no real purpose.
It has neat ideas but they're never fully explored. It tries to talk about social issues but it never goes deeper than the surface level. The characters are endearing at first, but quickly become grating as they get Flanderized, and almost none of the characters really develop in any meaningful way. And the animation slowly degrades in quality with each passing season until it becomes distracting, and it only makes it worse when there's like 5 seconds of god-tier animation in the very last episode and then it goes right back to the normally terrible quality.
Overall, it's just really not worth the investment. It's disappointing in every conceivable way, because it relied on tricking people into thinking it would someday be good.
Steven Universe gave too little and too late for me. The only good thing is a less than a minute James Baxter delicious animation
The "I still love you, Mom" moment.
>redeemed
>finale
I think people would've been far more upset if this was the finale.
Don't listen to the other anons and form your own opinion.
They only got that far because they liked something other than 'promise'. The cast is very good. That's all I can say is an objective quality this show has. It has a good cast, good music.
If that doesn't hold you, whatever
A few seconds of good animation didn't 'redeem' this shitfest.
>form your own opinions
>the show has an objectively good cast
Retard.
Keep watching up till Ocean Gem, from that point on, you'll know if it's good fro you or not.
Here is the watching order for season 1 (itune has it a bit off and one epsiode of season 2 has to be watched in season 1)
I'm really curious to hear about why AT's finale was bad , other than "muh dykes" or "muh nuffin for the straight white male", which seem to represent 90% of Yea Forums's complaints about it.
It's Yea Forums's version of Mass Effect 3's ending pre-Extended Cut
>dream scene was unnecessary and way too long
>war didn't go nowhere
>all those villains teased at the end of Gumbaldia do nothing
>GOLB does nothing
>Finn does nothing, has zero importance, doesn't get closure, his relationship with HW isn't mentioned, he's left homeless and with no arm at the end
>zero bro moments with Finn and Jake
>Rebecca Sugar's song
>Simon goes back to normal and loses the only thing that mattered to him. And according to Muto, he didn't want to give him a happy ending, just go all the torture Betty went to bring him back to normal
>no Lich
>the scenes at the future
>"they moved on with their lives"
>almost no scenes with Finn in the ending montage other than the last one
>Are there any other shows that redeemed themselves in the finale?
I don't know, it'd help if you posted an actual example of this.
And the future characters were pure shit
I cannot think of a single instance. Most works that go on long enough either end up with talent either leaving or descending into hackery with the finale being little more than a death rattle
I was okay with SU only because my expectations were in the gutter and it managed to hit the right beats
I've not watched AT since S3 or whatever but a common complaint i've seen is that it forgot Finn is the main character
Bite me.
Well , I actually agree with pretty much all of these.I heard that the show's team got warned they needed to ended only four episodes before it.Is that true?
see Also bubbline was shit too. BTFO.
That ending sucked so much cock I got a contact high realizing just how many people it would have pissed off or dissapoint that my inner asshole came buckets and I became one with the universe for a brief but glorious moment. It was the perfect fuck you to SU fans.
steven universe is a colossal faggot.
Nope, they had a whole season of warning, and I think they even thought last season was the end too so they had a freebie season and still dropped the ball.
>redeemed themselves in the finale?
>Steven Universe
I bet you believe that crap.
That's the truth, no matter what other user and Muto said in interviews. Ghostshrimp (the background artist) confirmed on his podcast that CN cancelled the production on the final season, leaving the crew with only four episodes.
soundcloud.com
Half of the finale doesn't actually happen because they are asleep and none of the villains from early seasons do anything.
S1 it's actually pretty good, indeed it almost feels like a different show if you compare it with later seasons.
But do not start with S1E1, go for giant woman or mirror gem.
>four episodes
Geez, that's actually pretty sad, because if you see the finale character sketches and pay attention to the finale opening the crew was planning a lot more.
>>Rebecca Sugar's song
What's wrong with Sugar Song? i think it was pretty good.
That's the thing: I was expecting the song to be some emotional moment between Finn and Jake after hearing it for the first time at SDCC. Even DiMaggio was crying while listening to it. But instead it was used as a weakness against GOLB. And that's it. Not even Finn sings the fucking song.
>Finn and Jake moment
Yeah, I was expecting that too, specially because the part of "if there some amazing force outside of time" I really thought Finn would die in Gold guts and Jake would try to rescue him somehow.
Also Sugar version >BMO version
>Redeemed
This episode was whole lot of shit happening without any sort of impact to it.This entire show was just about making half assed "lore" about shit that was just a backdrop for muh feels and lesbians.
So here's the thing about SU... while there are a lot of things to hate about the 10-11 minute episode format, the one advantage about it is that it lets you get through content twice as fast as normal shows. In a two hour block you can power through everything from Gem Glow to Giant Woman and get a pretty good feel for what the first... probably half to two-thirds of the show is like.
Grab some popcorn, jump on kisscartoon or whatever, and give it a watch. If your interest isn't peeked by the end of Giant Woman it's probably not the show for you, but you've only wasted the equivalent of a movie.
White Diamond was ruined in one fucking episode.
It's basically the finale of the "arc". Everything after that would just be Dragon Ball Z. As long as Dragon Ball Z isn't out yet it's safe to discuss Dragon Ball aka Steven Universe as a completed story.
The filler's not nearly as bad when you're watching it all at once. It only felt terrible on top of all the countless hiatuses. Honestly, just about the only thing in the series that felt truly pointless was Lars of the Stars.
Escapism was a completely pointless filler episode plopped right before the fucking series finale
I dunno. I wouldn't consider Escapism to be filler, considering that it sets up Bismuth. Peridot, and Lapis coming to the Homeworld for rescue.
The civil war shit between the melons must mean something since that's not how CYM played out.
I think the melon shit is just supposed to be background 'humor.' I never felt like it was actually setting something up. At best, it's going to be used to mirror the rose/pink diamond split
Steven Universe's finale was satisfying because of how conclusive it was. Everything is solved, every mystery is answered (except the chest), and I wasn't left feeling like I wanted to see more of the show.
Also I forgot to add this:
>Finn does nothing, has zero importance, doesn't get closure, his relationship with HW isn't mentioned, he's left homeless and with no arm at the end. And according to another interview with Muto, he did this because it was irrelevant to the finale.
>Beyond that, there were so many where it’s not necessarily important — where do Finn and Jake end up? What happens to them? How old do they get? Who do they marry? It’s important to focus on this section.
