Does anyone know any other forums to use if I want some second opinions on my comic while I brainstorm/draw? Would any of you like to volunteer for me to bounce ideas off of?

>beatupcomic@gmail

Ì can't believe Elves on Ice are fucking dead...

sure, got a twitter?
Or does it need to be through email?

Speaking of twitter, I should go ahead an make one. Never been into social media before, but now I figure I should start making the accounts on all the platforms to get the word out.

So no, I won't have a twitter for the next few minutes.

When you make it hit me with a follow and I'll return the favor.
My DMs are open so feel free to bounce ideas off me if you want.
twitter.com/nekomajinheika

Might be me, but I don't think your DMs are open. At least i'm not allowed to send you a message

That's weird, people have been able to do it before.
Try following me, I'll try sending you one.

are scripts a requirement for making a comic? i honestly feel like scripts are preventing me from actually getting stuff done.

I recommend writing them out, even if they're not super in depth they'll give you more structure to work with.

How do I make twitter stop asking me for a phone number?

Give it your phone number.

NO!!!!!!

It's the only way I know...

IDK man I don't think social media needs my personal phone number, not even Facebook asks for that. I guess there's no way around it though.

Looking through the DOs section on the how to guide, it says the two step verification method is your best bet.
That requires your phone number.

as if I needed more reason to never get a twitter, after their most recent content crackdown

For someone that's already done this shit, is it possible to give them your phone number just to register the account and then remove it from the account, or replace it with 999-9999 or something?

Didn't there used to be an alternative phone number generator to use in this kind of situation? Would getting a google hangouts/voice number work?

That sort of thing hasn't worked for years. The free phone number places get blacklisted from twitter/google faster than they can be churned out.

I've never seen a way around it, but if you find one let me know about it.

What did they crackdown on?

No context panel.

fictional underage people. even in text form
and they were extremely smug and self-righteous about it, not even in a we're-being-forced kind of way.

Does your comic involve that?

what...

Invite me to the discord right now please

Odd question! I found a webcomic and far as I can tell it's got no attention, and I want to help him out. Is this email missing anything/no weird tone?

Chapter 03, page 09
"...And Lucas is not a bloodsucker's mindless, spellbound subservant."
Subservant*, also I think the word you want is "subserviant". There should be a comma between "mindless" and "spellbound".
The claw marks on Gilbert's face either switch sides on panel 4, or are missing from panel 1.

Chapter 03, page 09
With Norembridge being set in the 60s, some of these diagnoses are liable to not exist.
I don't think you should change them, just pointing it out- someone's going to say it eventually when the comic picks up steam.
I've heard of at least one story that stopped because someone told the author that Oculus Reparo from Harry Potter couldn't do a thing they had it do (wasn't me who pointed it out, someone in a forum was talking about fanfiction gripes).

Chapter 04, page 01
"Just be weary for the safety of your other patients."
Wary*
The fight throughout chapter 4 is very dark and it's occasionally hard to see what's happening. It is at night, but readability is important- good to consider going forward.

How are you advertising this? I found the comic by searching the 'webcomic' tag on FA. Comic Rocket and TopWebcomics are services that list webcomics, apparently good for early snowballing.
Even just chatting or joking with people on the FA or Twitter account would probably bring in attention- that's exactly how I found Chicago Supernatural Defense Department. You seem otherwise very taciturn on your accounts.
Finally you can host the story on multiple websites: success is measured in how many people view the story and Patreon patrons, not specifically Norembridge.com. Tapas and Webtoons are currently the biggest sites, though I'm not sure how they receive furry content-I haven't been able to find any.

Look it up first, obviously, but apparently prepaid/disposable phones work

Attached: page24.jpg (1100x1600, 1.88M)

If anyone thinks anything they create isn't in danger from censors, they're pretty clueless.

I would appreciate this kind of help, but not everyone would. Maybe preface it with 'hey, I like your comic, I have found a few errors and could correct them if you don't mind'

host your comic on your own server that is literally anywhere but the US

GDI
That would explain why I stopped seeing links to them. I did find a page offering fake numbers, but now I'm not sure how much I'd trust that site with an account's access.

Found some stuff that says if you contact support and tell them that you don't have a phone or something similar they'll unlock you account within a day.
>help.twitter.com/forms/general?subtopic=suspended
Otherwise you should be able to skip phone verification if you use a desktop to create your account and refrain from using it on your phone (I think that's why my own account doesn't have my number). Or delete the number from the settings after registration. Sorry I can't be more help.

I'm practicing my art to start a webcomic, but I'm having a few problems I'd like advice on if possible.
1. I'm having trouble keeping my characters on-model. I can never get the heads and facial features to be exactly write each time.
2. I'm having trouble drawing characters in profile that doesn't look silly.
3. How do I draw hands, goddammit?

Attached: 1546832895683.png (620x541, 89K)

I think you're missing the point. The topic at hand is: Twitter noticed people coming in after tumblr cracked down on adult content of any kind (including anything flagged by incompetent automated systems) and they decided to put their foot down right away about content they apparently have some kind of problem with.
Also in case you haven't noticed, the US is just about the only one protecting free speech anymore.

I'm not saying censorship isn't a problem, I'm just saying there are some hills worth dying on and some that aren't.
I'm not gonna plant my flag on the side of things advocating for lolli stuff, it's an image destroyer.
I'm not even into that stuff.

This is good advice, but this guy just doesn't want a social media presence.

>Badick Obama
>not Bacock
i guess they dont hire for intelligence

post your art, these are very common problems and they're possible to deal with, but we have to know where you currently are and what mistakes you're making before we give advice.
Ideally also post your construction process

It'll be what you're into soon enough. but you're right about picking battles being important
>doesn't want a social media presence.
quite true.

If anyone thinks that Twitter is the kind of place you're safe from censorship regarding sexual material even of a non-questionable kind then they're idiots. I bet you thought Tumblr was going to house you forever.

You live in a brief period of time where you can bank roll depraved porn on the same site that funds inventions and shit. Be happy while it lasts because it ain't normal.

No problem, it's not a huge issue for me.

They've gotta set a line somewhere, if the tumblr types flooded them with kiddy cartoon pics suddenly they'd be in hot water.
They're better off preempting that

This. If I got a cold email like this I'd probably just delete it even if it was helpful. Ask first THEN give advice.

You have no memory of the pre-Obama internet, I take it.

We're two seperate guys.
but I do get what he saying and agree.
Ultimately if you wanna do lewd stuff, and lets face it we're all gonna have to dabble in it to some degree, you can't trust places like twitter not to fuck you over at some point.
I just use to interact with people, I haven't decided where to post porn yet, even though I don't do that underage stuff iy's a bit tricky to pick a place.

English really needs to bring back the plural you, so it's clear when you know you're addressing separate people.
without settling for y'all or youse

See, I think we need to fight for sexual media, porn, dirty comics, etc.
But we can't defend the lolli/shota guys.
They lost the second they realized they were into that.
I mean, face facts, there's no way people are gonna listen to anything you say after you support people drawing underage characters.

Posting cause I probably wont update this week. Ill read Goodlove I think.

>What is the weirdest thing you did in order to learn something for your comic?
I guess posing myself and taking pics of my own body to have a reference for some poses.

>Which original content are you most proud of?
Uh, I mean, I have ideas im proud of, but drawings not so much.

Attached: 39.png (863x1306, 711K)

And my latest attempt at art.

Attached: erwrew.png (1386x2116, 966K)

As someone from a place where everyone says y'all your rejection of it offends me.

I'm not at my tablet right now, but I'll post some when I get back home.

My favorite thing in the whole wide world is the pinky and the brain episode where brain tries being a country singer, and consistently enunciates "you all", usually after a pause suggesting he has to psych himself up to say even that.

You are a man of taste.
Somehow out of everything they did with those two that stands out clear in my mind to this day.

what's the deal with this. give me some context.

I bet dan and swampy intentionally had doofenshmirtz do the same basic plan out of love rather than copying or coincidence

Nothing wrong with a nod here and there.

Comic I made to git gud at art but now im uploading it. Explaining the context there is complicated but basically she is forcing him to help her -in a misguided attempt to get his forgiveness- and he wants to kill her because she ate his family. Hijinks ensue on their journey.

Story is about two man-eating oni sisters who become the targets of a demon hunter. It has lots of reveals and badly drawn battles.

Attached: ijWlAHy1.jpg_large.jpg (868x1252, 219K)

Oh and is the sisters currently and how they were like when the story began.

Kinda fucked up but I am intrigued.

You are more than invited to give it a try if you can endure initial edginess and bad art.
tapas.io/episode/1272284

thank you very much for the interest in any case, really

no problem, I'm alway up for looking at other people's stuff, got a twitter?

yeah but its more of a personal twitter. I upload pages but they are between lots of other stuff. I doubt you would be interested in that.

Probably good points.
In a vacuum, does the final block look okay? Not sure if 'How are you advertising this?' reads confrontational

I'm interested in connections to other artists in general.
So if you wat a follower post your twitter.

alright, but its just a huge weeb tweet
twitter.com/ArdiHel9
thank you

better to say "people need to see this, are you doing any advertising?"

No worries, return the favor if you feel like it.

The weirdest thing I did was proably act out how my characters would in a situation, because as the creator you know how they would react, but it's a different thing seeing it. Here's page 2 by the way.

Attached: pg2.png (937x1069, 305K)

How do you generally design a bedroom for a character?

pretend you're moving in?
oh you asked how I generally do it
I just put in a bed and sort of forget how real people live and decorate

No context panel pt2

Attached: file.png (186x287, 50K)

they dont have to be written perfectly if theyre only for you. "jake says something about cake" works just as well as "jake: this cake will be a fine eatings, i tell ya."
are you posting links to your comic in most posts? probably thinks youre a spambot.
twitter is a shit platform for anything but celebrities and politics.
>drawing underage characters.
someone should distribute a dot to dot puzzle that ends up looking very riske when complete. then everybody becomes a disgusting crim.

I know this is a thread about webcomics but I’m a retard and I need help. If I’m going to draw something digitally and then send it to someone to print, how big should my page be? The bleed and safe zones are confusing me. Should I set my page up to be the size of an average comic THEN add the guidelines for bleed and trim OR do I make my page with those added to it from the start so it’ll be bigger than the average comic page? Please help a moron out.

>how big?
big, dude. 3000 pixels is a good start. if you wanna learn how "dpi" works you can look that up, it's simple math, but in essence, 3000 pixels
>Bleed and safe zones
aint nobody understands how those work. Just leave some space. give the final digital image additional blank "Canvas size" if you're worried.

sounds like you need a template. bam. ka-blam.com/main/standard-sized-page-template/ (click it for the full size version.)

Small hiatus last week so I could write an unplanned episode. Anyways, Eerily Lovely:

>What is the weirdest thing you did in order to learn something for your comic?

After many years without using traditional techniques, I bought some markers to draw till I could get a new tablet and return to digital.
Now I don't want a tablet anymore for this new comic.
Not for B&W at least.

Cute!

For short comics I only use rough storyboards, adding scripts to the formula for longer ones. It's easier to fix words than drawings.
The detail I put into them is limited, though. As they are meant for me to read and understand, only.

Depends of the size of the final print, I'd say that you can't go wrong if you go 300 dpi for something smaller than A2.
Prepare to expend lots of time with unnecessary details (that will go unnoticed for the printer or average eye) if you go higher than that for a small print.

Check this video for a good understanding of bleed in PS: youtube.com/watch?v=9HASYQ6ldtM

Thank you amigo

1. Grind.
2. Grind.
3. Grind.

If you're uncertain of character looks, doodle the character 100 times (in the same or different poses/expressions). But really just a dozen repetitions will help.
Profiles, hands? Take the bull by the horns and just draw them, take a pause and draw something else if it begins to hurt.

you can just thumbnail instead

page sketch

post your handle

Attached: pg15.png (940x5640, 475K)

My artist sent me a bunch of textless sketches for approval before inking them. Editing, cropping, layering text, etc. is extremely frustrating and tedious, but ultimately doing this work feels gratifying. How do you motivate yourself to slog through the repetitive parts, Yea Forums? Sometimes it's tough, especially because I work 2 jobs while doing this.

Attached: TS011_MomentofTruth.jpg (2822x5550, 3.19M)

here. Sorry, I forgot the sketches are uncropped/resized and are pretty darn big.

>How do you motivate yourself to slog through the repetitive parts, Yea Forums?
Look at your finished comics and recognize how good it feels to have them done. The finished product is always a good motivator.

Interesting concept. It's a bit rough, but I genuinely had a chuckle.

I heard from ic that grinding doesn't help

>tfw someone made r34 of your character
oh no

youll build confidence but you wont improve unless you actually focus on learning things.

that's an honor user, i always say you've only truly made it when people draw porn of your work

what if you cut out the middle man and just draw your own porn?

sure
as long as you are better than dewd then you're fine

only good artists are allowed to post here

Here is something, although it is kind of a spoiler.

This is a new storyboard page I am thinking about adding to later in chapter 2 of Rococo comic. Its a bit of a spoiler and it'll take that scene into a somewhat different direction.

I am thinking about how much world building do I need to do before someone can understand what they are talking about, or if they needed to at all. I wonder if the inference someone reading the dialogue can draw from about the world would be interesting enough for them.

Attached: ROCOCO02_proposed_storyboard_40plus.jpg (848x1200, 219K)

not to be rude or anything but how are you still only on chapter 2 of your comic? you've been here for aaaages

How do I know if I'm better than dewd

post your work and we will see

He's actually decently quick for the quality he puts out. It's just that he gets side tracked by other stuff, which wouldn't be so bad if those actually led somewhere.

I would caution you to be a bit careful, maybe even work with a proofreader. I know English isn't your first language, but when tackling some of the subjects like this, it is easy to get lost.

With this much text, you've got a lot of errors going on, and when you're trying to describe these super scientific terms and stuff, it is easy to get lost.

Further, I'm not sure if some of this stuff is actual science, or if its just made-up stuff for the story. Like, I am familiar with things like Quantum entanglement, and mentioning "Black Knight" makes me think of the Black Knight Satellite conspiracy, but I'm not sure if that's what you're going for, if its all just made up lore stuff using existing science terms.

Its kind of confusing for about, five different reasons. Then again, I'm sure the page itself is really out of context since I don't know/haven't seen the other pages is sandwiched between.

wip

Attached: 7 version 2.png (620x877, 557K)

There were at least two older iteration of Rococo Comic. The previous one is rococo2007 on smackjeeves, and a previous iteration on my dA. The last reboot was in 2016-2017.

On the far left is the first Rococo Comic and its posted 10 years ago, and two right page is the same scene this year for comparison.

Never the less I can stand to speed things up if I can properly focus.

Hey thanks for the comment. yeah, I really need to get it proof read. Although This is kind of a first draft stuff, to quickly get an idea across. This will get revised at least two or three times from this point. Some panels will expended out into multiple pages depending on how important I think the visual accompanying its components are.

A lot of these are referencing real life stuff, but technically made up. Like NATO aircraft identification broadcast only have up to mode 5 for example, mode 6 is made up. Although judging from your reaction what's discussed in this page really hasn't earned its lore, so I'll probably rewrite it in more general terms if I were to go in this direction.

Attached: Rococo2009_2019_comparison.jpg (1421x646, 229K)

geez man how many times are you going to redraw the same thing

if it will look this good I hope he never stops !

it's not about the art, it's just seems to be that he's really indecisive what exactly he wants to write
i don't want him to end up just redoing it again and again and again

>Although judging from your reaction what's discussed in this page really hasn't earned its lore, so I'll probably rewrite it in more general terms if I were to go in this direction.

I get the gist of it, I think. I don't think you've failed. My take away is that Rococo is listening in on/or comes across an old frequency from some old supposedly decommissioned program, your Black Knight program, which was about planting super soldiers in other places for later use. And they're trying to figure out who is even around now that could actually still be a part of such a high-end project. Is that right?

I think maybe its just a lot of text for one page, too. Could maybe be split into two pages to help make it more digestible chunks.

r8 my comix

Attached: yahyeetyah.png (1524x551, 17K)

I'm just going to echo what a lot of people have said, but I think your work as-is is absolutely fantastic. However your constantly re-doing things has me a little concerned for the future of your comic.

Serious question: Have you put your foot down on redos yet? I feel like how your art is now and the direction that you're going, you need to make sure to take any future redraws off the table and power through with what you've got now. I'd hate to see you continually spinning your wheels on the first few chapters when I know the rest of your story is just waiting to come out.

discord please

Steve Huston is so much more superior artist than Prokopenko. Have you seen Prokopenko's drawings? It's fuckn kindergarten.

Anais is such a darling girl

Practicing with unfamiliar weapons? Splinter would approve.

the sketch phase is the redo phase. that's why it's so freeing. It took a few seconds to sketch, so you can redo it in the same time.
true it's still hard when you do an amazing sketch and don't wanna get rid of it, you can save it for later.

you could've been 100 chapters in by now
stop redrawing things aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh

Jesus fuck, stop remaking things and get a fucking move on already.

Please be my waifu

Attached: 1486602936071.jpg (455x406, 17K)

this is Disney's fault probably

Hey! I was wondering if anyone had any input into these character designs? I know without a script it's harder, but any of them that feels "off"? Or you don't like/have changes?

Make sure they eat horses. Otherwise horses will just go to waste. That's my design feedback.

Just twice, hopefully.

Yeah, I am planning on splitting it into multiple pages. There are about 10 pages between where I am at and that page. So there are still a few page I can add to build up to it. Although the current structure of the chapter is magical girl focused, and simpler, get to the point quicker. So I might follow the original plan and leave the whole super soldier business for later.

Yeah, my current iteration should be. Even though I am unhappy with some of the page in first chapter, I am going to try my best to leave it alone and finish out new chapter first.

Uh, I don't know about that. Its been 10 years. Depending on the length of the chapter, that might or might not be feasible. Currently my planned chapter is about 45 pages. Currently the fastest I am able to do this comic is 3 black and white pages a week. A chapter will take about 15 weeks, which is 3 months and 3 weeks. 100 chapter in 10 years, thats 4500 pages, 10 chapters a year, I don't think I ever drawn that fast.

Yeah, I got the message. Yup.

lies! lies! LIES!!!

Guys, today for me totally sucked, i'm super depressed right now because i spent the whole day lipsyncing, my computer restarted and now my .fla file is corrupt.

I know it's not webcomic related, but it was for the west tree pilot, anybody know how to recover a .fla file, or just some helpful advice?

General advice: Make frequent backups and do some basic versioning i.e. every few iterations, save as version x+1. That's also just helpful in general.
Either do automated backups or at least an occasional backup on some cloud server.

Recover advice: A .fla file is a compressed archive file. Depending on how corrupted it is, you may be able to extract some of it by just opening it in something like winrar. If you're feeling lucky you can also try repairing the archive file.

>chapter 1 of my comic is done
>been working on it since october
>friends tell me its pretty good but probably need to draw out the second chapter too for more context

idk where I'm going with this I'm just proud the first chapter is finally done. I feel like I've been in literal hell trying to drudge through this

>what if you cut out the middle man and just draw your own porn?
it's not about getting porn of your characters specifically, it's about the feeling of people feeling so attracted to something you created that they needed more jerk off material of it. it's less special if you just draw it yourself

Yeah i do have a back up that i can use, it just sucks that i wasted a day even though it was completely out of my control.

I already tried all the winrar stuff, that didn't work either.

Depends on the names?
Sometimes they come off as fun, but sometimes they seem forced.
Whatchu got?

holy shit harro this is your next thing? Looks pretty amazing as always. I love that you're doing a just flat-out fantasy thing here.
The head-body giants are incredible. Super unique and instantly retro.
The punk goblins aren't super my thing but they're fine. I do love when goblins have tech, and the smaller weaker male goblin thing is an established thing.
The orc faces are super interesting, nicely inhuman. seems like their pokey-outy fangs should be further apart though in those closed-mouth shots, if they are indeed tooth #2 rather than #3
Super fucking cool trolls. I love how the royal sculptor made these horribly beautiful golems in his image.
I assume the myu are meant to be comical-looking, but there's no excuse for those tibias. Kitty needs to work on his posture.
What is going on with the wing membranes on the dragon though? such thin spindly wing arms and then membranes only on the finger area on top of that? I love everything else here, but those look just awkward.

I'm glad someone gets this. it's a very special feeling.

Any thoughts on this character concept? She appears in one scene in the comic so it's not too important.

Attached: IMG_20190312_200113.jpg (896x2080, 432K)

I just got a better computer, but I can't seem to make the fucking pen pressure work for some reason. It's frustrating since I wanna draw my comic.

>Awww yeah. Business on the left side, rave on the right side.
i'd be her friend.

I'm sure you've already looked this up and tried it, but... update drivers? look up potential incompatibilities with other programs you might be running, such as VLC?

Hey thanks for the extensive feedback!

Yeah this is a project I want to pitch, so I'd like to do it as "right" as I can. This is definitely high fantasy, although hopefully I'll be approaching it in a way that sheds some light onto parts of the fantasy world that are kind of taken for granted.

The Myu, cat people, are still a work in progress- I need to do some cat studies really!

And Big Muscley wings on the dragon is some good feedback. I'll give it some more room to draw around and buff them up-

thank you!

Nice to hear! She's actually a former sexbot who now runs a charge bar for robots, so I was hoping for that vibe.

finally leaving us for the big leagues? I knew it was inevitable.
Yeah just, let the wing membranes follow the whole arm and connect with the body. Even better if you have a secondary membrane from wrist to shoulder, it took me literally 20 years to learn why that's so important. There's a nice guide on tutsplus about wings that includes thoughts about dragon wings at the end.

this guy did some art guides, pretentious as fuck i assume, and they weren't good, but in fact, were bad? like that is his bad drawing.

What's an atelier?

I havent really watched enough Proko to get a sense of what he's capable of, just the few motivational ones like where he goes around cons interviewing others. I'm more into Sinix's less-produced art videos.

just...hand draw the scream

I think it's just an art studio, not sure why that matters regarding art skills though.

Famous YouTuber whose entire channel is about constructive anatomy attempts to draw "from imagination" on stream and turns out he can't even draw basic volumes in perspective
is supposed to be a cartoon dog
What is insane is that this hasn't tarnished his reputation one bit, even on /ic/ he's still recommended.

It's not like anyone here can draw a better dog

he draws better than anyone here and almost all of /ic/
not being able to draw things without the practice behind it doesn't make you a bad artist

I did it for you then.

Proko is meme tier. There's way better instructors out there

Attached: 1551736428218.jpg (558x614, 80K)

>not being able to draw things without the practice behind it doesn't make you a bad artist
That's exactly what it means. Are you insane?

draw the mona lisa right now without looking at any refs
clearly you've seen it before so you know how it looks like
or are you garbage at art?

Failing to draw basic volumes means he can't do the very things he teaches, he clearly learned to draw by copy and he probably copies his anatomy shit from somewhere offscreen while trying to make it look like construction because if he told people to copy shit 1:1 he wouldn't have a channel.
In the videos where he draws from life he tries to make it look like he's constructing by drawing overcomplicated boxes but he's really just copying, any person experienced in construction would draw better and simpler shapes that actually make sense. All his live drawings are garbage and tons of people on /ic/ can do miles better.
There is no way a person experienced in construction would produce pic related, he didn't even use basic volumes for the dogs, they're just random wonky things with no form, it's just impossible that a person that uses construction would NOT use construction for cartoon shit. Most webcomics in here look better than this and this man fucking teaches how to draw.

This really goes to show that if you are a complete and total fraud and somehow you get famous you can even totally expose yourself and people won't mind, fame makes you bulletproof. Same shit with Ilya Kulishinov who got famous by swiping shit and even claiming he "sketched" some girl in a Japanese metro when he actually traced a photo of a Chinese cosplayer.

/ic/ is trash. People like Proko are transmitting "progressive teacher" culture codes, without having decent education or intuitive feel for arts. People on /ic/ are just wanking all day, demonstrating each other how good they are at receiving these codes (cos it is simpler than actually understand which theory is good and which is bad). Or drawing fucking boxes, i dunno. Just fuckn futility and degeneracy.
Did you see /ic/ recommended books lists? Mostly fuckn memes and garbage.

Btw, i heard, Proko is like the most successful youtube "teacher" right now. Amazing, right? He sucks both at drawing and teaching.

i watched the full video. he says its an exercise in pulling together different shapes to get something new, it was the 'imagination' exercise. i agree with the rest of what you said though.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell.
Alex Rider Series by Anthony Horowitz.
Chaos Walking Trilogy by Patrick Ness.
The Old Kingdom Trilogy by Garth Nix.
Magisterium series by Cassandra Claire and Holly Black(still ongoing).
Coraline by Neil Gaiman.

howsa?

You'd figure drawong from imagination is quite simple when you are so used to draw from real life. I mean, proko can't even draw dog legs correctly. I've only seen the dog comic making video, a'd from what i saw he seems to not be able do see what dog anatomy is. It feels like he doesn't understand what he's doing on a deeper level. Plus the way he lays out the page seems to show he never looked at how a page reads. He may be good at life drawing, but it seems he can't translate these reproduction skills to use when inventing stuff

I think user was talking about art education books from /ic/

>kim jung gi
aargh why arent his books published in the west? i want one.

Jesus this took a while. Between moving, a weekend trip to reno, and drawing that environment in the first panel this took way fricken longer than I'd have liked. I am glad to be done with this so I can finally move on.

>What is the weirdest thing you did in order to learn something for your comic?

Look at porn. No seriously, there are some fantastic artists out there who do great environments, colors, and framing. Buttsmithy's alfie has been a big inspiration. I really love some of the environment shots and panel layouts in his Alfie comic.

>Which of your original content are you most proud of? Can you show/tell it?

I'm working on some portfolio stuff while doing my comic. (Though if I'm honest I'm neglecting the portfolio stuff to work on this comic, it's kinda become a problem.) I've got this awesome sci-fi concept art for a theoretical cartoon pilot I've been developing. It's not a webcomic (and it seems kinda gauche to turn this thread into my own personal art blog) so it's probably not appropriate to post it here.

tapas.io/series/Squires-for-Hire

Attached: Page 20.jpg (1200x4260, 2.8M)

If I want to learn to draw things like pic related, just shaded stuff, is there any reason whatsoever to learn color theory?
I'm assuming no

Attached: new_yorker_dog.jpg (1050x700, 72K)

I don't see why she couldn't just name some books that are recommended and bad, but whatever.
Pic related is the first result on google. The anatomy book is an unusual choice but not bad, especially because it's easier than a 'real' anatomy book, and the environment book is kinda meh imo. But otherwise I don't see the issue.
>You'd figure drawong from imagination is quite simple when you are so used to draw from real life
What? Copying from life is trivial if you use the grid/sight measure method with enough time and does absolutely nothing for your imaginative drawing. It's like studying a book by reading single letters rather than words. It's why shit like drawing on the right side of the brain is misleading trash.

Attached: ic list.png (1000x1200, 1.36M)

Damn this comic is getting better and better! I just wish you'd put a little more details on the backgrounds for the small panels too, like, for instance, some background characters since the girls are in a crowd, but i like it!

I kind of agree with you but there is simple reproduction and studying what you're copying. I mean, i've stopped my comics recently to hone my skills, when i'm doing figure drawings, i prefer to think about what I'm doing, see how the muscles are under the skin, stuff like that.

he also specifically said he would draw the previous one again with a blob. the one he said he gave claws. it was all over the place and he said several different things as if he was still reading chat.

tell us more about that fantasy project pitch!!! is it for a show? I love the designs, especially that fat head dude, it's far from what we usually see from fantasy like just elves dwarves and stuff. I'm a sucker for unusual fantasy, like k6bd

>Alfie
>by Buttsmithy and not Incase
What did he mean by this

I don't see how it could hurt

I am absolutely terrible at elevator pitches, but I've tried my best to write a summary- Hopefully this captures some of what I want to convey. Actually feedback on this summary would be very helpful!

As wizards begin to expand onto a new continent, a resident Lich is put to the task of non violently bringing down the wizard's greatest weapon, their magic. Seeking to invade the wizarding school in the city the Lich brokers a deal with a young homeless girl to switch bodies. The Lich is able to infiltrate the school in human form, however the young girl soon realizes the power that her new Lich body contains, and begins to raise an army from the non humans of the island in order to exact her revenge on the humans that mistreated her. As the Lich begins to enjoy the human school and make new friends, the Girl's eyes are widened more and more to the atrocities humans are capable of.

This book would be aimed at readers ages 14 and up that enjoy fantasy worlds with a deeper analysis of what makes them fantastical. Although there will be high stakes and drama, the overall tone should be semi-sweet, and even hopeful, with many moments of humor.
The setting is a grassy and mountainous semi-tropical island. There is a wizarding settlement in a bay area that was initially constructed by traders that exchanged goods and services with the Non-Human species of the island. Very recently the trading port has been massively upgraded into a large (and growing) Experimental wizarding school, focused on bringing magic into widespread military use through the harvesting of non-human reagents from the non-human denizens of the island.

i'll write you something of a critique later to convey how i feel when i'm home, is this a graphic novel project?

yeah, I'd like it to be one thick book with a very clear beginning, middle, and end. At worst I may have to split it into two books.

And thank you!

>Lich tries to switch bodies with a Girl to get rid of magic forever, however the Girl begins to hate humanity and turns
>mix of [semi-sweet, hopeful, humor series you like] and [high stakes and drama series you like]
I'm not an expert, but elevator pitches usually work with you saying less. Try to summarize the plot in a sentence.

Okay so here's my two cents. I think it's a really good premise. Your designs are unique enough to make it worth a rrad. Tbh i'd like to see more environment designs to see how you'd like to flesh out more your vision. For instance, arleston, a french comic writer that's very proficient in fantasy (he wrote trolls of troy, lanfeust, ulysses in america, ekho and other stuff) describes very precisely the look of the setting to give his stories a strong identity. Your designs, especially the lich (which looks adorable!) breathes originality for me.
As for the story it has very strong points, the fact that the girl becomes aware of what the world of the living has done, and the lich discovering what life in community feels like could be a fun twist on the whole isekai genre in a way, even though it's not your focus i'm sure.
From what i read you could have a tonal dissonance if written poorly so be careful with that i guess? A bad writer such as myself could easily turn your idea into a teen angst drama about an edgelord little girl discovering being a lich is fun.
But i'm sure you'll do great.
As for the pitch as is, cut back on the setting and go straight to the point i think: "a fearsome lich swaps body with a poor homeless girl to infiltrate a wizarding school he's set his eyes on. He discovers what companionship is for the first time. The girl is subjected to the horrors of what humans can do to non humans in this world" or something?

Hope any of this helped man!

>hyw collab tutorial channel when

well yeah, the stinger is the vagina.
how did you escape the tumblr purge?

>holding someone who sees himself as a teacher to much higher standards is fair.
Yeah I can accept that. I try to teach people who I notice are specifically at that narrow point where I have something useful to impart. they immediately get better than me after that. I could never just teach a large number of people in a general way.

how do you get inspiration for what you want your comic to be about? is it just the random first thing you like?

Is there an actual Discord for these threads, or is it just a running gag?

there is an actual discord that people are randomly invited to

That part usually comes before the desire to make a comic.

Damn, wish I could get an invite.

Dear lord no. If I could pay someone to do backgrounds for me, I would.

Attached: file.png (648x634, 125K)

But your backgrounds are great
and this little pangolin or whatever is really cute.

There's several discords.
One is very big and has almost all the talented people of hyw in it plus many more.
The other discords are smaller and are mostly comprised of artists who have not joined the big discord for various reasons such as:
>less crowed
>less / different approach to moderation
>small subset of people who've been kicked out of the big discord or left on their own accord

There is a weak tendency that "less talented" or more inexperienced hyw anons join the small discords but ultimately it can't be said that the big discord is better than the small ones or vice versa. The "fights" between members of different hyw discords are dumb and petty. It all comes down to preferences.

Huh. Interesting. I wouldn't mind an invite to one of the smaller ones, in this case. My Discord handle is "The Hatchet Man#5502" if anyone would be so kind.

yay

You also forgot:
>were banned for being real pieces of shit
Ask Dewd sometime why he was kicked from the big Discord. It's an absolute riot.

And yet here in the threads they make it sound like a fun fantasy land where people act fun and wacky
I think the lack of anonymity makes it tougher for some people

We won't miss ya.

...

For example, the posts above and below this one. Imagine how this person might speak differently if their name and comic were known.
Whereas some of us just want to treat others the way we imagine our moms would approve of.

Honestly I'm just so, so very tired of drama.
Every single time I try and join a community with similar interests it turns out there's always pettiness, backstabbing, whining, etc. generic drama you'd think adults would be over, but instead they just want to recruit more people to be on "their side".
/hyw/ threads have all that, but at least I can ignore someone here and not have to deal with pms asking me why I blocked/ignored/muted them, or asking why I stopped showing up to group meetings. Or asking if I'll join in on asking mods to kick someone out.
Aren't you guys tired of the high-school level drama?

Anonimity is a crucial point.
I turn off my trip for about two thirds of all of my comments. A couple of those are shitposts I'll admit but they include most of my contructive critique and comics as well. Some people just prefer to stay anonymous because they're shy and some, such as myself, mostly stay anonymous because giving advice on comics wouldn't sound very convincing coming from a guy they know is incapable of drawing a straight line - yet people thank me for my advice on the regular. The issue of anonimity is a bit more complex than saying it allows people to act like assholes. People should be mindful of this on a website whose sole foundation is the principle of anonimity.

>Every single time I try and join a community there's always pettiness, backstabbing, whining, etc.

Welcome to the human condition, traveller.

>Laundrymom how to draw manga
They need to learn to draw it themselves first

Fair point. I guess I just miss that part of my childhood where I could join a group of friends and everyone just wanted to have fun.

I think the majority of people are fine, there's just a few very dedicated cranks
see for me, that was childhood. then we grew up and became nice. Yea Forums is a backslide.
But even then, Yea Forums was love for the early part of this decade. and i'll admit, some of the problems were my fault. It was a shock to go BACK to that childhood defensive mindset

>Every single time I try and join a community with similar interests it turns out there's always pettiness, backstabbing, whining, etc. generic drama you'd think adults would be over
Sadly this is with basically any community that involves creative people, whether they be artists, game designers, etc.

I'm surprised to see so much negativity about the big discord.

If it means anything, I've been in the big one for three moths and have seen literally zero drama. Everyone is gracious and sweet to one another as far as I've seen. I'm honestly shocked that I've only seen political conversations go political for about one or two sentences before everyone realizes what's happening.

If there's anything to criticize in the big discord, it's that at least half of everything posted qualifies as shitposting or is meant to generate shitposting. Webcomics themselves are meaningfully discussed the rest of the time, but it is less than what I had envisioned. That's not so much a problem as it was my misinterpretation.

looks exactly like it should. I've never even consciously thought about effects like that, but I'm realizing now I've seen them a billion times.
You should know that you're me.

i stopped posting because i always comment on other people work but my posts have been ignored every day for a month. i give up dudes

i don't post my work anymore either, i just respond only

I really appreciate the thoughtfulness-

Environmental designs are a good idea, and I'll definitely make them. I have a strong idea of what I want- I can almost feel it

I'm going to try and avoid the edgelord route by having the Lich-Girl really enjoy the company of the non-humans. She wants to protect them, although finding the balance between "protect those you love" and "destroy those you hate" is a fine one

And I like that short pitch! I'll try and do something like that- I hate boiling down hundreds of pages into something so simple, but obviously nobody is going to read hundreds of pages if they don't like the short synopsis.

Thank you!

Finished this page!

I started a tumblrcomic page to post comics I'm writing as a portfolio thing. The first thing I'm posting is a 13 page thing in 4 parts. How does it read? This is page 1.

Here's the tumblr itself, I've got 8 pages up:

Hey I remember you, you posted ages ago asking people to look at your script because you wanted to publish a zine-comic or something to get published. Good to see you again!

Pages look good, nothing sticks out as being off to me. You might want to find a different hosting site though. Tumblrs purge a while back has made hosting there rather difficult and personally I hate how it forces the next and previous pages to open new tabs instead of just clicking through.

Dang I didn't think anyone would remember me. How's the writing? It's the only thing I actually did myself. Also, what sites do you recommend? I was going to go with wordpress but all the wordpress themes I saw didn't seem to conducive to comicing without spending like 300 dollars.

I probably remember you because I was one of the people who looked your script over to give you advice. I'll have to bookmark this and see how that initial script compares to the end product.
>How's the writing?
Looks good. I didn't spot any spelling or grammar issues that didn't seem intentional.
P5 "peep this" seemed kind of weird and stuck out to me, but the characters seem over the top (in a good way) so it fits. Somebody else will have to give it a better once over, it's late for me so I might be glossing over some things.

>Also, what sites do you recommend?
Just the typical ones: smackjeeves, drunkduck, tapas, "self-host".
Which wordpress themes were you looking at? Maybe someone here can give some advice on using or creating a theme. I think that Saffron and Sage guy does development on wordpress, but I'm not entirely sure. It may have been something else he works in.
I know comicpress is constantly recommended to and from comic artists, and that same creator also made the comic easel plugin which are all free. Did those not work for you?

I'll have to double check, I can't remember what turned me off comicpress. I think there was some cost to using thirdparty plug ins or something? I might have misunderstood it.

I vaguely recall comicpress splitting and having a free and paid version.

When you guys draw your comics do you draw the backgrounds or figures first?

I'm very inconsistent with my workflow. I just do whatever is most convenient for me at the time.

i draw all the boobs first and then work out where the feet go and finally any beds that might be in the scene.

I try and sketch them all at once to make sure the composition is ok, then I ink figures first followed by background. In most cases people don't notice a shotty detail in the background but will notice if a foreground element like characters are off, so it's better to spend the time focusing on the important elements first.
Of course, dialogue placed before anything else. Pretty pictures don't mean much if your dialogue is smashed into corners or covering up all the art.

Oh, nice. Semi-webcomic related: Celsys (clip studio paint) just updated their TOS so now they're going to start moderating better and remove all the low-effort crap in the ASSETS website. I hope this means we'll start seeing less spam and more decent tools again.

I guess they paired it up with another CSP sale, too.
50% off until the 19th, for those who were waiting.

What's the difference between pro and ex?

Finished scripting the first chapter of mine after some beta readings, after struggling for years to find a good way to start it while building the confidence necessary to do it.
Would love to work on the chapter's cover but after sleeping badly twice in a row I can't bring myself to do it.
In the meantime I made a sheet explaining how uniforms in the comic work.

Attached: uniforme apprentiENG.png (1414x3050, 700K)

Ex has a few extra features. Unlimited animation frames, more line extraction settings (fort turning images into background "drawings"), multi-page/story support (you can only do one page at a time in pro), and special print previews/functions.
Honestly right now ex isn't worth the price, it's more than twice the cost with a limited number of extra bits.
Stick with pro if you are going to buy it.

and a lot of people use krita for animation which is free.

Looking for character design reference on Pinterest is one of the worst best things. Once I start I just get bombarded with a ton of potential inspiration, it gets overwhelming.

You rebooted your comic?

Yeah, I know.

There are advantage of doing that, I admit, but I am just not very good at being concise, to to break up into smaller story that have tighter focus. Although maybe its time for me to learn.

Aim higher, user, although depends on what you wanted to know about I might be able to share some knowledge and experience.

Wish I was working with an artist this talented.

Wish I was an artist that people liked

proportion / art style really messes with that too. after all you don't want people having heads twice as big as other people's heads, but you don't want gigantoheads on short people

Are you the artist in question, and if so, why do you think people don't like you?

I'm a different artist

just dump the script and an artist might draw it without your permission

I got pro bundled with a tablet but it’s only a trial and that price looks really good.. how often do they have sales?

Often enough that you won't kick yourself if you wait, but not so often that you should wait if you have the money now. Go for it.

Maybe 3 or 4 times a year. The next sales are likely to be in June, September and/or November, but that's not guaranteed.

Mitch, don't whine!

>I got pro bundled with a tablet

This guy has his priorities straight

I wonder if I ever properly learned facial construction from books instead of copying anime and did daily drawing practice, would I be able to draw a character's face consistently the same now?

Attached: 04.jpg (868x1228, 224K)

serious question:
who is the intended audience for this

I like your faces. anime faces are just better.

Anyone I guess
Or nobody

the only complaint i have is the fact the hands could be looking a tad wonky at times, but in general, this is fantastic stuff.
But yeah, study how faces work, just be careful not to lose yourself down the rabbit hole, facial features differs from races to races.
But if you can apply what you learn to animu style, it could be amazing.

any unused comic ideas i can steal?

on the other hand, how many jobs do you not only GET to do the Costanza "build a nap spot into your desk" technique, they actually BUILD them with that? how fucking cozy would that be? Just pull over, climb into the back, and have a snooze.

>Thoughts?
it looks really good. hard to make any SU association
definitely better, hope that cheers you up because you have shown legitimate improvement.

Well, it looks good to me. I don't see any SU semblance.

Thanks!
Well, it's not just the art style but I did ape off of the whole "fusion" thing in the comic, but with elements instead of gems. Unfortunately that part might have to stay.

that's a lot more appropriate, like what a particle accelerator does to make new elements.

oh thanks. I take that stuff seriously

Anons. I've penciled my entire comic and now get to go back to inking. Still figuring out a style for my inking approach, though.
You have a very appealing style. I'd certainly be interested in seeing a comic.

Cute stuff. Looks like a hybrid of Green Knight and Favourite Crayon, and that's a good thing.

>Which of your original content are you most proud of? Can you show/tell it?

A combo of my senior film from college and my Oni x Fox Kickstarters. I'm so grateful and proud of getting my comic into printed form. As for the film, it was and is still great to have finished my first animated short. It's pretty stupid and even though it was made for school, I had a blast making it.

This is my first time popping in this thread, and I've gotta ask: for those that have worked on/are working on a webcomic, how do you stick to it? How did you take the first step towards creation? I want to do it, but I just can't seem to find footing or desire to continue. I try to world build, write down bits and pieces of story, work on character design, or just about anything else to try and motivate myself on the ideas, but I can never follow through with any of it.

I have no other reason to live

My characters needed me to continue their existence

One thing that always gets me working is the understanding that no one will tell the story that I personally want to tell.

I occasionally spend time getting frustrated at media for not doing things the way I would want it to be done, but I prefer to redirect that energy into making things and telling stories the way I want to tell them.

Also, if motivation is an issue, I'd recommend starting with smaller, shorter stories. I think a lot of webcomic artists make the mistake of committing to long-form ideas that they ultimately cannot complete and wind up losing interest. They commit years to an idea that ultimately needed more thought put into it and never get around to working on the better ideas that they come up with along the way.

If you start smaller, you can get something done, reflect and have an easier time getting to work on a more ambitious project down the line.

i just want to learn to draw so i can have a really cool comic

people underestimate the value in having a message in a story as a way to remain motivated in telling it. find something you really want to say.

I really don't like that I've been wandering more and more into color. It takes my caveman brain a long time to figure out. This Saturday is coming up and I haven't started on the 2nd page yet. This God damn page is taking forever. First time I've felt genuinely frustrated, even if I'm getting close to what I want.

Attached: CI_Ch1_Pg51.png (940x1216, 1.12M)

heh, welcome to the pain of a comic that gets elaborately better-looking over time.. you lose, but the readers win.

Like whut

My desire to fuck all my characters makes me them draw them more

about taxes or something.

wouldn't you like to say something like "frilled lizards are really cool" or "it's only okay to shoot some people and not others" ?

>frilled lizards are really cool
That goes without saying

and yet, when things go unsaid long enough, sometimes we forget!
and other times it's just nice hearing or saying something that's already well known.
or maybe you have something new to add. after all, how many of them do we know from comics and cartoons? one. and he was the jar-jar binks of that movie.

I don't want to talk about dirty lizards, I want to do something cool

Well that was just an example! What do you think is cool?

I dunno, Magic

there's a lot there, even if there's a million fantasy comics, there's still tons nobody's gone into yet.
Hell I've played a couple dozen semi-predictable cliche-ridden JRPGs and I'm still being surprised. In this one, the "oh stop using so much mana" green imperative is countered with the earth apparently OVERproducing mana in response to heavy use, which supercharges all the life that relies on it, causing disruption. it's got more diabetes to it than the standard malthusian peak oil spiel. How often do you get to compare something to diabetes without you meaning 'because it's so sweet' ?

Why would someone even read it, if your art isn't even good enough to draw human figures? What's the point in getting an audience of just one or two people?

well you didn't mention that part. Get better or just write literature instead of comic.

Bump

literally just draw at this level and if your story is great then it will easily carry itself

Attached: 7e17c4ee88f2e32ccabf6c9baf897624926a964e_hq.jpg (585x790, 85K)

How can someone draw this well and also have five different faces for one person

Fuck I should do this

You can make animations longer than 1 second with ex, basically pro only has a demo. The animation tool is really solid.
You also have a bunch of tools for making serialized comics which is more useful than it seems, and other stuff that lets you rip poses from photos and turn photos into manga backgrounds, but from what I've seen that doesn't work too well, the photos into screentones tool is really hit or miss depending on the photo you use. There are also other tools like a machine learning tool for colorizing stuff based on sample colors, and other features.
I bought the upgrade just for the animation tool desu.

Alt A: the story I'm currently doing is the most oc thing I'm prod of because it brought people I didn't even know the exsistence of, to feel excited about something. Having the chance to share emotions It's the kind of thing that makes you proud of what you are doing. I guess.

One Punch Man isn't a good story. It is popular for meme reasons.

There is a completely different comics culture in japan and there is no way in a billion years a thing drawn like OPM would get noticed in the western world unless the author is a pansexual transracial Auschwitz survivor writing about the war in Syria as experienced by the local polygender asexual population.

this

Space Jam-themed Kingdom Hearts parody

>character from a cartoon that just came out looks exactly like my character

OPM is cool. It's a mess of a "story" but it's enjoyable.
OPM is still alive mostly thanks to Murata's art.

Attached: 000.png (800x1138, 923K)

Huh

it happens too often to me too...

when are these posters going to stop.

Using the fact that OPM did well as a crutch to draw like shit is fucking stupid. no, you are not going to get popular with shit art cause a couple shitters did it. no your writing is not going to complely carry your comic. stop pretending that since one dude could do it you can too.

learn the fundimentals, get decent, and stop making excuses for your shit ass art.

mob psycho 100 is better

Attached: mob-psycho-ep2-reigen.jpg (366x206, 27K)

How do i get better at drawing

maybe youll think twice now before saying manga all copies each other. theyre just all subliminally being inspired by the same stuff.

I dont think OPM is even a good example, dude probably had to shit out 10 pages a day compared to most webcomics schedules.

Cyanide and Happiness

There are several layers in terms of creating a consistent likeness to a characters. Although to be honest I am not the best to speak on that myself but I have some thoughts I think it might be helpful.

You kind of have to break down each elements of a character's facial design and ascribe specific characteristic to a specific characters. A simple list is, for example, the shape and size of their eyes, their placement, size and shape of their jaw lines, shape of their cheeks as the line intercept with their craniums. Do they have rendered lip or not, how big is it relate to other elements of their facial features? how long are their faces?

There is also general design elements, like for example, Rococo is a short blond woman with hime cut, pony tail and a baby face, with sharp eyes and bushy eyebrows.

Vivian is a tall busty woman with narrow hips missing right ear, a scarred through her right eyebrow that's since faded, MC haircut that likes to wear a side pony tail to obscure ugly scarring on the right side of her head. She has a long face with rounded but flap eyes.

If you get distinct enough design on some of the other elements like hair or accessories you might not need to be totally consistent, but in this instance your design is more grounded so it might take some extra work in terms smaller details, but if you get the eyes, nose, mouth, the specific placement, shape of the cheeks and jaw shape will really help with feeling its consistent if keep it on a specific character from instance to instance.

Its a lot of mental energy to keep track of it in the beginning but if you do it enough it become more natural.

The attached is the kind of exercise I do, where I draw characters without their hair and accessories so I can deal with something like eyes, headshape and their placement to distinguish it between them. I don' t know if I make sense.

Attached: 2019MAR15_likeness_study.jpg (910x722, 107K)

thats mostly copy-paste now isnt it?

Yes, like Garfield

fucking start your comic and never stop. dont even think about it. you dont have to make a masterpiece. I say this all the time but if I didnt start my comic id still be drawing characters standing doing nothing and hiding hands. making a comic forces you to try new things and drawing situations you would never draw.

It's less copy paste than it used to be to be honest. There's more playing with actual art and gifs and stuff like that nowadays.

I recommend 'Drawing a Blank' by the way, where they all draw on one comic. There's a lot of actual art there.

b-but i never said that...

look up croquis cafe on youtube and practise figure drawing

LOOMIS

>b-but i never said that...
because youre thinking twice about it.

>Drawing a Blank
what program is letting them network draw?

I don't want to draw humans

>spoiler
Agreed. I think it's also good because the art is a direct improvement over OPM while still being unique

Attached: 015.png (715x1013, 794K)

draw food people waging war against animals then

That already exists

something you can relate to and feel strongly about. one of my messages is "find somewhere you belong", but that can be interpreted differently by anyone and each character cause each person has their own idea of where they want to be and same goes for their characters. Now toss in a bounce of creative conflicts and you have a stew going.

draw food people having a philosophical debate about being food then and the absurdity of their existence

Proko gets bullied for this all the time, but there have been countless instances I can personally recall where I tried to half-attempt draw something only to realize what I was drawing is turning out like total shit. He was attempting to draw a kangaroo there. He didn't really know what one looked like. You can't knock his skills because he didn't have very specific domain knowledge about a specific animal while on stream.

>says its a cartoon dog on video
>I-It's a K-kangaroo!!!!
No, don't apologize. He just has shit skills

Hey everyone, I'm looking for some motivation. I've been drawing for years and I always wanted to make comics. I have tons of stories in mind but I never manage to put one down. I don't draw perfectly, but I have fun.

I'm asking because I'm not sure if it's against the thread rules somehow. Would you minded if I posted some of the designs for the comic I want to make to have some feedback?

>against the thread rules
There aren't any real hard fast rules here, to be honest. As long as it's loosely sequential art based, no one seems to mind.
Go ahead and post your stuff.

Here's Page 4 of the crossover story going on in Tales!

tapas.io/episode/1353919

I am going to be extending Tales Arc 1 by three more stories. Those ones won't go by the 7-page rule I've had. aiming now for at least 15 pages. All the artists seen in Tales so far will be returning to do them.

Attached: PAGE 4.png (675x1024, 1.37M)

I didn't see the first wip til you posted this. such a good page. I love your art!

Thanks. I'll post a few of the design, tell me if you'd watch a comic with something drawn like this.

Even while making these I always think "there's no place in the marked for this style"

Attached: IOQA7581.jpg (2848x4032, 1.36M)

I specifically picked only designs for the comic I'd like to make from the sketchbook, this one got a few more than others because, of course, he'd be the main char.

It'd be a super over the top fighting shonen thing. I decided to start with something that woudln't be too hard to narrate and super fun to draw, to motivate me.

Any feedback help, so if you got some advice don't hold back.

Attached: PBCO2865.jpg (2932x3951, 3.44M)

>Would you read a comic that looks like that?
Yes. For fuck's sake you're already one of the best artists I've seen in these threads, please make a comic sometime.

>There are also other tools like a machine learning tool for colorizing stuff based on sample colors
Pro has that too, though it requires a connection to work in a way that doesn't for me for some reason

just an FYI, you seem to draw foreheads pretty high but then that's nearly the top of the head, so there's no more head above the forehead, or behind the ears. Also seems to be a consistent diagonal slant forward down towards the chin and backwards up towards the head.

No, I wouldn't read an ugly thing like this. No matter how good of a writer you are.

HAHAHA oh fuck, you’re right! I will adapt the design accordingly, thanks!

... I will put a goriller in it now.

Definitely. More apes. Glad I could help. I wanna see more comics like this.

Some landscape/brainstorming for Lich//Girl

The island it takes place on used to have large orc population that extensively carved and worked stone. Some time ago (100's of years?) a dragon came to the island (and is still there, but lazier now) and eradicated most of the civilization. The orcs on the island never fully rebuilt, and live in smaller stone carved dwellings in rock faces. Still, there are lots of remnants of their "glory days" around the island.

Also a small bakery will be a central place in the story! It's supposed to be the epitome of "comfy"

This is great! Are you looking for any kind of feedback in relation to what you want to achieve or are you just showing what you have?

Feedback away!

I use to post a lot on /ic/, and the majority of those responses were basically "give up and die",and I kept going, so happy to hear what you have to say

Its a persistent problem of mine. I often relapse if I am not particular conscious of it. Although I think I tend to have it fixed when I added hair. Although the way I do it mainly to try to keep track of placement of features.

I don't quite understand the second part though.

The kungfu rabbits looks rad as hell, do it man.

Also, I want that dialogue "I am a lion" from a Gorilla, making everyone confused, but maybe he is referring to his school of martial arts.

it's cool, you're awesome. your comic is awesome.

I have an image folder of "inspirational" images that rotates all the time, and this one just popped up- I don't know when I saved it, but it's still rad

Keep up that good work!

Well the reason I asked and not just gave feedback is because I want to know what you're going for. because to me the change from panel 1 and 2 to panel 3 is almost jarring in how exotic the orc sites are and how very earth-architecture the bakery is - but I am guessing you want that contrast deliberately, underline the mundanity to really hit home the weirdness.

So basically my question is: what's your aim with your aesthetic?

Exactly! The Orcs, goblins, trolls, etc of the island have really not been bothered by humans before. This small fishing/trading village that was set up on the island is an oddity that the Orcs and goblins tolerated because the humans brought in interesting things to trade, and vice versa. The fishing/trading town is going to be designed to be cozy, unthreatening, and kind of "the niceness of humanity". The fact that there is a dragon on the island heavily discouraged human settlements.

The Orcs and Goblin settlements will be tricky. I don't want them to be savages, but they don't have grand cities either (or at least not anymore). I would love for their to be a disconnect when seeing the way they build. Basically sophisticated techniques applied in a way that modern and ancient builders did not use in the human world.

The wizard tower is going to rise up through the story, and is built while the students are attending it. Since it is built using magical construction techniques it will stand out from the surrounding architecture. It will symbolize progress, aggressiveness, and unfettered power. (I should draw this next) It will likely have more organic designs- although I'll try to not make it "Alien"

You are much better at this than you've ever given yourself credit for, harro.

Also, Ghadar has its own Discord Server!

Hey thank you- I hope I can communicate those ideas effectively!

I'm looking for criticism about my shitty art. I sketched two characters on my ipad, I couldn't figure out how to take full-sized pictures of the left one, so they're like a third the size I drew them at. I want to one day start a webcomic, but I know I'm too shitty.

All of the images are supposed to be the same character, 15 year-old girl, except the large image of the other wilder-looking girl on the right.

Any critiques are welcome, I know I'm garbage.

Dont be so self-rude! if you think what are you making is special, it WILL be special! Dont lost hope!

no problem, you draw the same way a lot of people do. You have the basic parts there, now you just have to start using basic construction techniques to get them arranged in the right proportion and placement. You'll get it.
do you need help with getting started with construction or are you aware of what it looks like?

Top tier shit.

I don't know anything about construction, yeah. Also how to keep the parts the same size each time I redraw the character, or how to draw hands and shoes.

construction helps with all of that, you just break everything down to the shapes it's made of. I think there are good tutorials in the OP, take a look around and if not, I'll look for something better for you

Fell a little behind, but I'm on my 6th page now.

Hey, who feels like making a guest comic for West Tree Academy of Heroes? It can be whatever you want.

i have the utmost confidence in these heroes.

Question to both creators and consumers... Color vs line art for webcomics. Is not coloring your comic egregious? I'm not exactly the best at doing gray scale stuff but i feel like coloring takes me the longest.

But on the other hand a lot of people say my color choices are really good [whatever that means] so I feel like that's part of the draw.

I just worry if i dont color pages ill lose interest.

Fuck Nyamo

at least quick fillbucket flats, that can't cost you too much extra time

>see sexy bodysuit girl from behind
>hear the clap of her ass cheeks, gud sheit
>she turns around
>its that ugly faced goblin girl

Side Note: Would posting a webcomic thats primarily furry [well okay zootopia themed yeah shooting myself in the foot here] be bad for Yea Forums? I know Yea Forums hates furries but i'd like to try and broaden my audience a bit.

if you're still here i'd like to know what exactly you meant by this
do you mean it's entirely uninteresting or you just don't get what i'm going for? or is it something else?

Yea Forums doesn't matter
furries do

the high density cuteness in this thread motivates me to create the best comic that this thread will ever see. i will fuck every last one of you.

>"Maybe I need to put on a harem veil or some shit"
then it just sticks out 10 inches from her face

Yea Forums likes furries. as long as you're posting something for your comic it should be fine, but posting shots of your characters by themselves is possible to trigger janitors, so you might want to link from offsite for that.

Nah it'd be just comic pages/updates. I wouldn't just suddenly start spamming the thread with my ocs without context.

Another side note: Hows DA for uploading webcomics? I use smackjeeves and used to use tumblr but tumblr is dead.

tumblr is slowly dying. DA could work, i just never seen anyone pull it off for comics.

uploading? it's fantastic
everything else you could desire of a comic host, though? pretty crap. no navigation. though still better than tumblr for navigation
stick with smackjeeves and its ilk. things that have proper forward-back buttons and an archive page

If only you knew how bad it gets U_U

They can handle it!! They.. they'll work through personal issues and grow closer and friends and probably kill some kind of octopus-mushroom hybrid
Fuck me I love fantasy so much

Yeah, and I assume that the description coding to make like links to next/prev are annoying to do?

I also should probably link my comic by now right?

>They can handle it
Ah geez

I just woke up from my benedryl induced coma. Getting the next thread set up now.

quite. some people do it (check out the awesome comic Africa on DA if you haven't) but it means going back and re-editing each one later to add the url of the next one

That shit really does the jorb, doesn't it?
even if they have setbacks they'll learn more from their mistakes!!

Eeeyup.
Though when I'm breaking out in hives and feeling like glass and salt is being shoved down my throat I wish there was a better alternative than spontaneous unconsciousness.

Attached: fuckingbenedryl.jpg (600x660, 75K)

yeah it sounds like non-drowsy claritin wouldn't exactly do the trick in that kind of situation.
we all appreciate the work and innovation you're doing in the threads.

I'm gonna wait till next thread to share it, as not to spam the comic.

But I warn you.. my art changed a lot and it shows between page 1 and current page whatever it is.

Aw, thanks but I feel like you're giving me too much credit.
And yeah, I take the generic claritin (loratadine I think?) usually, but past the tipping point I need the good shit.
Zyrtec worked well, but I wound up with withdrawal symptoms from them. You ever have the feeling like ants are crawling in your skin while you're on the freeway? -10/10, do not attempt.
(I'll stop whining about allergies now)

Cool, looking forward to it. Shouldn't be too long now. 15-20 minutes would be my guess.

Looking forward to it, I always like seeing art improvement.

Hoy, didn’t see that answer, thanks a lot! I like weird sentences like that out of char I’ll keep it in mind for sure!

You keep up your stuff too, remember to always keep a folder of authors/inspirational pics/both open for reference. Whenever you have a doubt lift your eyes and search a bit. Even just the fact you’re TRYING to reason them through is good both for your art and yourself. Of course always keep a big anatomy folder too and study the hell out of it.

Again, thanks a lot for the feedback!

That's my worst fear. Reading something I made, only to realize that the quality of the art got better the farther along the comic went. It's best if I just don't do one at all.

I will keep that in mind myself (bunny kung-fu guy)

A lot of long-running comics show something like that. I wouldn’t see it as something negative, but as a positive. It’s inspiring to see someone starting “weak” and getting more confident with time. Never perceived it as a bad thing!

Plus, most times, I don’t realize it for the whole running time of the comic. I look back at the first numbers when it’s almost done and I’m like: “wow! Did it start like this?” It’s almost as if you grow alongside the characters.

Just copy yojimbo or some shonen you faggot

Trust me, if your writing is good people wont mind the coloring and even then its better to start out and improve as you go than wait.
Besides people say the best way to get better at art is to work on it, and what better way than actually doing a comic?
