I'm hoping if she gets more focus in the next movie we can see more to her. I like that she's sorta got the Ballerina gimmick with her costume. Between that and her band there's at least something you could sink your hooks into in terms of characterization.

He's as cliche'd as they come.But the way they write him makes it work. You see his struggles and you believe them. He's likeable, he's relatable and he's got a good dynamic with the other characters. It doesn't matter that he's cliche'd. What matters is that he's endearing. So long as Gwen can manage to be both charming and somewhat relatable, she should be fine.

oh yeah that would help her a lot actually. Her detachment tells me she is way too in to her own pain to care enough about others. It's often a way to protect her self but so many girls do that as a trope it's hardly new or original.

She did keep trying to insist that he shouldn't do it. She even offered to do it in his stead. So I guess some part of her did want to protect her "friend". But I think the age gap sorta changes that dynamic. Ie. an adult telling a child something is a bit different than two children deciding something between themselves.

However with Gwen, that depends on what you mean as charming and relatable. Because what I suggested her being into music is good but being a drummer in a garage band isnt as relatable as people think. Yeah I do think it's a very racial plot device. A lot of movies want to sell how "smart" their black MC is but they also wanna depict that difference between the change in society between their home and the "smart" school. Emma Stone was an amazing Gwen Stacy though. It may have been the only good thing in their movies but the Emma Stone/Andrew Garfield scenes worked and they worked well.
