It's a lot easier for Alderode to seem like the bad guys because of how downright WEIRD it is, and the fact that their very existence is an existential threat to the rest of Kasslyne, but that doesn't stop Cresce from being pretty nasty either. Without Alderode stealing the limelight, a bad day in Cresce would seem downright dystopic.

Duane might hold the opinion that NOBLE ALDISHMEN can't possibly disagree with NOBLE ALDERODE, but I highly doubt the Foi-Hellick's would have just fucking given up what they had if they didn't think the Queen was going to back them. It might not be her fault for planting the seeds of rebellion, but she sure as shit watered them.

A lot of Alderode's nastiness seems more passive. The Dammakhert is pretty fucked up, and they make use of it in a pretty fucked up way. But Cresce seems to very actively be a nation of motherfuckers who go out of their way to make things miserable for everyone on Kassylne who isn't Crescian--and sometimes for people who ARE Crescian, as well.

Plus, I just can't get over the Gefendur twin-eating shit. It's by far the worse of the two major religions. And Cresce is pretty proud of themselves for being almost purely Gefendur.

Pretty much every country is pretty proud of that fact. Alderode is the only country that has another religion in it treated anywhere close to equally. Some Ssaelits live in Sharteshane that escaped from Alderode but if they were ever found out/reported they be summarily executed by the paladins. The Gefendur faither is pretty monolithic in Kasslyne.
