I literally just finished the show an hour ago. It's bad enough they killed Allura making Lance not only lose the love of his life, but wrote his epilogue that had him farming while everyone else traveled the universe making a difference.

It's not quite like the ending of Thundercats...but it feels almost as mean.

She was a sexy dark elf action babe that looked like a purple Azula. All they really needed to do was give her a character arc where she steadily becomes disillusioned with Lotor and switches sides at a critical juncture.

Instead they had her flipflop constantly, made her look like a bad leader and friend and then made her change allegiances off screen.

The only people who liked Acxa were the Lotacxa shippers who wanted to see why she cared about Lotor so much and why Lotor trusted her the most.

Allurance is dumb ship. If your character's arc is getting over trying to hook up with someone, the next step should not be hooking up with the same person. I don't know why the fuck they went this way. If they wanted Allura and Lance to hook up, they should just have them hook up. If they wanted to teach Lance respect for wammen, "You need to respect that some people don't want to date you no matter what, than they'll date you" betray lack of commitment.

Something that you should keep in mind is that that Hunk was always the fifth member of a five-man team. I'm not just talking about VLD, I'm talking about the Voltron franchise as a whole. He was the least relevant pilot in Golion, the least relevant in DotU, he didn't have a single line of dialogue in The Third Dimension, and he was a non-entity in Voltron Force.
For all the problems that VLD had as a reboot, it gave Hunk a bigger role than he ever had in previous shows.

It's a combination of character popularity (in Shiro's case) and execs vetoing it, AFAIK.
It's also hard to tell if some of these ideas were just shit thrown on a brainstorming blackboard, or ideas that were actually close to happening.
In general, it seems that both LM and JDS had a darker show in mind.

Say what you want, I actually like this kind of shit. There's nothing interesting about generic happy endings, but this kind of sort of tragic but sort of happy ending is good.

Supposedly he learned to open up and reach to his team as the clone but that's mostly us reaching the obvious conclusions than seeing the progress. Look, the people that said Shiro was drawn over Keith and that Allura was supposed to hug Keith because my kallura and all that jazz are taking things to the extreme. But I do think that many of the PLOT POINTS (not specific scenes, just talking in general here) we saw in seasons 3-6 (aka original s2) were in the early drafts of the season before they had to rewrite it for Shiro. I bet stuff like someone taking Lotor to the hunger games and giving him the black bayard was thought for Keith, it fits his mo. So what I imagined their relationship was going to be like is Keith going all #NOTALLGALRA and Lotor using the half-Galra thing they have in common to manipulate him more. Lotor probably was promising a new place for people like them, saying he understands how it feels. Keith's blood plot would feel less thrown away that way too.

I doubt it would amount to much since apparently S8 was supposed to be all about the parallels between Honerva and Allura, and while that makes sense on a conceptual level if you think about it the show itself didn't exactly showcase that very well. It set them up as rivals, sure, but not much concrete in terms of their respective characters.
