Initially it was from the age old ‘I heard something that so and so wouldn’t say’ but then it turns out the Skrull are just misunderstood and are just refugees trying to get the warp drive engine so they can find a home away from the Kree tyranny so they can live in peace

Oh you think so? They're in more danger now than ever, now that Mar-Vell's been introduced. And introduced as pretty old too, so plenty of time for her to have had a life and even a family before being stationed on Earth. Either or both of them could show up twenty years later all grown up in the next Guardians of the Galaxy film or Captain Marvel sequel, and it wouldn't even be difficult. They could make Genis Carol's sidekick if they wanted. Or even her next villain. It would be easy.

That is a pretty dumb excuse, I cared about the characters because I read his comics, I also encountered him while reading old Avengers comics, a mini about his time with the Kree that came out in the 90's I believe, and there is a fucking mini in Secret Invasion dedicated to Skrull Mar-Vell who thought he was the real Mar-Vell.

That's the thing, I know that before this movie people were saying that Carol couldn't be her own character if Mar-Vell was her mentor (which he never was) and if she got her Kree DNA from him (well technically the Psyche-Magnitron did it by copying Marv's DNA, still not sure how that happened).

Yet in this movie they made Yon-Rogg her mentor and she got her Kree physiology from his freaking blood and it just makes it even creepier especially when he said "It's my blood and it courses through her veins" yuck.

You can't have a strong independent woman if she has a positive relationship with a male figure.

The worst thing is that since Yon-Rogg is played by Jude Law fangirls still like him and want him to be redeemed, it's pretty gross.

She does have a positive relationship with a male figure, Fury.

He hits a button and she comes rocketing across the galaxy to help.

I was talking specifically about Mar-Vell's role and how it was given to Yon-Rogg and perverted.

I would have rather have Monica be already an adult or be absent in this movie. Also her powers prevent her from aging right? Not like it matters now anyway.

I think there's just a point where they know they need to be sure to intertwine these characters as soon as they can at some points so it doesn't feel like they come out of -NOWHERE- if they decide to use them as more than a little side character in another movie.

Sort of how I feel with Miles' uncle Aaron mentioning him in Spiderman.

I was utterly convinced Maria'd die to give her some actual motivation in the sequel. Convincing you're mum to go on the mission that gets her killed would've been a solid foundation to build stoic self-loathing post-NextWave Monica off of.
It'd also give her a reason to be angry at Carol specifically. Which'd free up the fangirl slot for Kamala.

BTW I a PISSED as FUCK that she didn't keep Carol's jacket. But if they mention that why she got her own by the sequel I'll forgive it.

For the Kree it was basically to stop it from falling into the Skrull’s hands but at the same time, the fact that it was powered by an Infinity Stone, I’d imagine that it puts anything they could create on their own to shame
