Star vs The Pie That Turned Everything Upside Down
New episodes airing, and new revelations. The truth about the origin of the new butterfly line, Eclipsa and the monsters and the kingdom, Glossaryck's voice... Still a lot to see and even more to come in this season.
Marco used to be one of my favorite characters in this show, but now the writers make him as incompetent as possible and constantly shit on him. The only thing keeping him from being worst character is Pony Head. What happened?
These episodes were okay. Nothing amazing + I still don't like the new status quo, BUT these had some decently funny bits, didn't do anything terrible, and stuck to their own internal logic, and at this point that's an accomplishment
Butterfly Follies >they sort of did okay with casually mentioning weeks had passed this time? It still felt sudden, but they actually tried reflecting it through Marco/River losing hope and Eclipsa massively changing the kingdom, so it felt plausible >Tom is shit and irrelevant. Nothing to say here >mentioned it in the last thread but the background monster designs are SO shit and non-threatening. To be fair, this is not a new thing >Butterfly Follies scene is genuinely pretty good. They also didn't do what anons predicted and spend the rest of the episode showing how the peasants were wrong or anything. In retrospect, it feels stupid that they left out Eclipsa who should also be receiving some of this hate, but the writers can't stop sucking her dick >"I don't need a wand" is great moment and a nice counter to the passive Star of S3 >glorification of Moon was sort of interesting, as was the crossdressing actor but I'm kind of annoyed by him having the exact same voice as her when in Moon mode. I know they had to do it for Star thinking it's her to even work (she could've just been silent though), but both these episodes leaned way too hard on WACKY IMPLAUSIBLE DISGUISES. Like it was funny the first time but, shit, after a point you need to stop and do other stuff >yeah Star transforming the guy was fucked. I think it's been sort of vaguely implied before that transformed stuff can change back after a while, but he could also just die. Star killed him >I still don't really trust Eclipsa and her ABDL fetish, and Meteora is vile shit. "LOL I hope my forcibly infantilized daughter doesn't remember centuries of mindrape or your ass is grass" + "Star better give up and assume Moon's a corpse." Fuck that
Ryder King
So I meant to write something brand new for the stream last night but juices weren't flowing till today. Thanks /dsveg/.
It was no secret, the fans fully knew That you were in love and you wanted to screw but it's a childrens show, so a girl grabbed a pen And now 3 years later there's no sight to an end And it's called Between Friends It's called Between Friends And it's called Between Friends Between Friends
They didn't mean to fuck but They had the house alone So they went off and got busy And now the folks are ho-o-ooooooome
And it's called Between Friends It's called Between Friends And it's called Between Friends Between Friends Ooooooo Ooooooo Ooooooo Between Friends
>Glossaryck's new voice is fine and seems like a better imitation of Tambor's performance now. I think last season felt more like Keith David just doing his own thing and it was jarring even though it'd be in-character for Glossaryck >Glossaryck saying maybe Star shouldn't have restored the Realm of Magic is something that's been implied since the climax of Battle for Mewni and I'm glad they really are going there. mite be cool >The Beach Day photo being from the future is sort of interesting? There was literally nothing in the present saying "this is a memento from the recent experience we had, in the past" so it's fair that they chose to do that, even though it also seems kind of implausible that Star had been visiting Father Time or something offscreen. I mean, she does know him personally, but still >BUT this also seems like the problem of S3, but in reverse. Like, S3 did way too much offscreen. Now, it's like the writers assuming because Beach Day didn't happen onscreen in S2, it must not have happened at all. It's a weird fan-ficcy kind of mentality, like how they made Moon's hands scarred for a bit there because "she wears gloves" >Still, I'm interested where they go with this. But Marco and his parents didn't even really react to a photo from the Twilight Zone being on their fridge? >I notice both these episodes have a 2018 date in the end credits. Disney really held them back for a while
Yeah, this felt like the season's spinning its wheels, but compared to how the S3 arc began with Scent of a Hoodie this is at least more entertaining wheel spinning. I take what I can get.
Hunter Fisher

>but the writers can't stop sucking her dick
The episode literaly opens with Eclipsa being called an evil queen for forbiding monster ilegal imprisonment and torture.
She is out of the play simply because monsters are now allowed to be in the fair and won't tolerate insults towards their beloved queen (remember how happy that random monster was over Star and her "dumb-dumb" mother stepping out of the throne) It's just safer to insult the family who is no longer in power.
My guess: originally Marco was considered an expert. He was Star's guide to Earth and his safety prone neuroticness actually had a great chemistry with Star's wild and carefree nature. But on Mewni, that doesn't quite work. He tries to fill in as her conscious. Of sorts, but it feels far more empty than what he originally was. Part of the problem is Marco himself hasn't really decided his own goals, made up his own balloon. We know he decided that Mewni was a place that was deeply important to him, but we haven't seen too much of him acting like that is actually the case. Arguably, the closest we see of this is during the S3 finale episodes. Hopefully we see a little more of his resolve in the coming season.
Bentley Jones
True, but that guy was also meant to come off as obviously wrong and Star immediately calls him out for being wrong.
The Follies stuff was sort of more justified, even true, and Star didn't have much to counter her throwing her kingdom away beyond "NO that's not how I do that spell!"
Grayson Robinson
>It's just safer to insult the family who is no longer in power. Is it, he got zapped into a toad
I'm still a little confused what this season is going to be about. I doubt Star is going to get the throne back again, what is she going to do now outside of trying to get her mom's memory back?
Austin Lewis
Fucking awesome, Jebus! When you can pick up the tune parodied by just the lyrics, you know you've done a good job.
Brandon Evans
Isn't the whole "cute-ifying" of monsters kind of counterproductive to whatever message they're trying to tell? Monsters are ugly and weird, but that doesn't make them something to be feared is what I thought the message was.
Escape from the Pie Folk >Star and Moon's outfits were super cute. I really liked Moon's apron strings looking like butterfly wings >a lot of this Pie Folk business was just filling time with "I tricked you!" "No actually I am the one who tricked you!" x 100, but it was sort of entertaining. Star seemed more active than usual compared to so many eps where a one-time character just takes over and Star stands around and does nothing because the show's apparently not about her anymore >Pie King also wasn't too bad for a one-off. I'm gonna remember him after this week at least, which is more that can be said for, like, Eddy or Ben Fotino or whoever >I like Foolduke and Ruberiot a lot, but they kinda felt like a blatant deus ex machina in all of their scenes. And I don't think Battle for Mewni's ending counted as one at all, to put that in perspective. Foolduke just happens to be descended from the Pie Folk and visiting and they just happened to have a hot-air balloon. I dunno. I don't ask for more one-off characters but maybe someone else helping out would be more appropriate >everyone here loses their minds because CINNAMON, except going by these terrible thread memes Star isn't supposed to like it so fuck you all, it was literally nothing >had the tune Moon was humming even appeared on the show before? I know Star recited it at one point but it was played as "you should recognize this" when as far as I'm aware only the characters did >the song scene was actually really cute >I REALLY thought they were going to reveal Festivia was an ancestor of the Pie King and Star and Moon really were royalty, but she was a rando even there. Weird to just recap it like that then. The pie showing the scenes was pretty cool though
Yeah this was also okay. Both kind of felt samey/like one episode and were somewhat repetitive, and the Moon arc just feels like delaying the plot a few eps longer, but nothing pissed me off and at least Star's no longer a prop
I find girls trying to hide their big boobs really cute
Brody Cox
He had no idea Star could do as she pleased when she is no longer a princess.
Take into account Moon let Mewmans rebolt against her family when it was revealed Ludo had the Book because of Star. They actually think insulting the ex-royal family will have no consequences because they weren't even with them in charge.
Glossaryck is a roundabout dipshit to Star to mimick how she treats magic in general, I believe? I haven't read the newer books, but the first one seemed to view Star like a daughter-figure, same as all the other wand-holders, I think.
Its not the episode user, but rather the entire series.
Evan Martinez
To the one that asked, yes, I'll be doing S4 as much as I can, but because downloading episodes is slow on base and I don't have a lot of down time, expect the 4guys collages to be done near the end of the week since the episode batches release Sundays
She was going to have a spin off, now that i think about it, is her show still going or ended?
Luis Bennett
Oh and I guess one more thing.
I do enjoy that both of these episodes felt like genuine adventures for the characters and not just standing around in one location talking or otherwise doing dull shit. There was plenty of magic use and action and I think they aren't lingering on jokes for quite as long as S3 would.
So points there. The other episodes coming up also seem to be in unique settings and I'm looking forward to that.
Elijah Long
Why the fuck did you make this thread? Fuck off. We already have this one over 50 posts.
Aiden Ward
Decent episodes. Weren't really good but servicable as plot/comedy episodes. Star and Marco actually sleeping in the same room is pretty overt.
Ended, unfortunately. Our girl Sue is looking for work.
Asher Jackson
Too cute to be made by a dude. Too focused on the subtleties of sec to be made by a dude. Guys only give a shit about getting they're rocks off as quickly as possible. Just look at the primary criticism of the comic: "takes too long, could have been done in 15 pages". No way someone like that could create something as impactful and heart boner inducing as this. A guy *attempting* to do this basically spends a couple of panels, or at most a page trying to establish some kind of gap moe appeal for the female and male chemistry.... then devolves into little more than a sloppy fuck fest. No way a dude made BF.
Wait one more thing. These probably were the weakest full episodes the show's done, in terms of lore being revealed or shocking twists etc,, but also had fewer problems with the larger plot compared to something like Monster Bash and were stronger than an average S3 episode.
Is this the best we can hope for? I hope not, but it's not offensive or anything. I wonder if maybe both could have been combined into a single full episode or two halves of a split-segment one.
But she did say she liked it and it's the only ship she's mentioned (I believe). So that counts for something.

that'd be pretty big

I'd guess she's a magical construction like the MHC, but wasn't made by Glossaryck.
I don't think she's ever gonna show up again given that so far she hasn't and even in the spellbook she wasn't mentioned outside of an offhand reference to Glossaryck being annoyed by her or something.
I just... really fucking hate Star Vs. the Forces of Evil? I feel like I got meme'd into thinking it'd be good. Look, I've watched Sugar's work. Steven Universe is often lumped into "the s 0 y trilogy" with this show and I honestly find that unfair and insulting to Sugar. To call Star Vs. the Forces of Evil "farcical" would be to undercut the sheer magnitude of bullshit it employs. Plot threads that arise only to contrive one another. Hundreds of pages of nigh-endless, retconning lore that establish a lot of important, but ultimately pointless worldbuilding. All to justify the most interesting character spending most of his screentime lying in wait only to job to a Super Saiyan butterfly.
I mean, not to call /ourgirl/ Daron Nefcy a hack or anything, but her magnum opus just feels needlessly cryptic and tone-deaf. Don't get meme'd into watching it, it's Gravity Falls for people who hate fun.
I wish they made another OP for the new season. The old one feels so outdated.
Robert Bell
This sentiment right here. It was outdated almost immediately following BfM

I wonder if Heekapo allowed him to regain the body or there some dimensions, were Marco takes his adult form
Matthew Watson
No one agreed on that template.
Brandon Roberts
I agree with this. It could've been more interesting if neither nor Star nor Marco knew where it came from (don't know how it'd work since it's obviously a photo, but each thinking it's a fake/edit made by the other or something), during their discussion in the bedroom somehow that comes up, and maybe Star assumes it must be from the future and that's a sign for Marco that maybe she's delusional about finding Moon or something.
They could even still have it connected to Father Time, but just not state immediately that he gave it to her offscreen. Like maybe it could have just appeared in Marco's house instead.
It would be mysterious and just borderline creepy. I'd love it.
Lucas Jones
>want to care about S4 >can't after the abomination that was S3 How do you girls find the motivation to continue? It's seriously bumming it out because I used to be the biggest shill for this stuff all over the internet and even IRL, and now I'm just... ech.
I doubt they'll make another opening. By the old one, you mean the second one that started on season 3?
James Morgan
Don't force yourself to enjoy it if you don't like it.
Noah King
Do you think Hekapoo let Marco hug her as part of the reward for earning his scissors?
David Reyes
Not a girl, but i still like the season. Don't try to overexpect things as if it was an epic series of royal proportions or anything, just go ahead and enjoy, have fun with the humor and go with the ride instead of expecting it to be one rigid way.
Tyler White
Because I know it'll be over in 19 episodes anyway, so I'm just sticking it out until the end.
If the show had gotten renewed for 100 episodes or some shit after S3 I guess I'd drop it, but by now what's the point? I've already seen the majority of it so might as well see how it ends too.
But I know what you mean. I still say earlier episodes were actually good but by now I'm really going to recommend it to anyone.
Liam Perez
Meant I'm NOT really going to recommend it to anyone. Not anymore, anyway

Nolan Evans
We're getting all the way up to the mid-season climax by the end of this month. Three weeks. No need to find much motivation when they're just dumping the end of the series on our laps. We might even finish the series in its entirety some time this summer, or earlier.
I corrected it because if I didn't I knew some user would say BUT IF YOU DON'T LIKE WHY ARE YOU RECOMMENDING IT. I can't win.
But I mean at least you cared enough to respond, so thanks.
Henry Smith
When this is over I kind of want someone to take the last 2 seasons and re-cut them into a single acceptable final season worthy of the first 2 seasons.
I have only seen Season 1 and 2 Do Marco and Star get together? That's the only plot point I want resolved desu, everything else should be episodic adventures.
Hudson Young
Because we're boys and watch because star makes our peepees feel funny

did this scene give anyone else an extremely awkward and confusing boner(and I don't mean a regular boner, this was like one of the hardest I'd been in years)?
If by boner you mean cocked my spas 12 to shoot that unholy sight, then yea I guess.
Hudson Thomas
Sorry user... but the scene in the same episode with a group of girls asking for Marco to "play with them" did
Gavin Bailey
no that's usually the kind of thing that kills boners
David Parker
that's the weird part, I do have a transformation fetish but normally ugly transformations like that are a boner killer, but for whatever reason that specific scene makes me diamonds, I find it really perplexing
>Sorry user... but the scene in the same episode with a group of girls asking for Marco to "play with them" did that was also pretty good for that
Anthony Collins
Oh you aren’t joking. I actually find transformations quite horrifying.

I really liked how open and in-your-face the Butterfly Follies episode was about just how badly Star has fucked up. I mean the parody play was on point and not really wrong about anything other than Moon being able to save the day.
>In retrospect, it feels stupid that they left out Eclipsa who should also be receiving some of this hate, but the writers can't stop sucking her dick Or you know. They're afraid of what "the Queen of Darkness" might do to them if they criticize her. Would YOU publicly criticize an absolute monarch who could vaporize you with a swish of her umbrella? Or whose adoring monster followers could eat you over it, and would have impunity because apparently she outlawed the imprisoning of monsters regardless of cause?
Jordan Moore
She might have killed the moon actor
Bentley Stewart
So what are the odds that the Pie King is actually Moon's father? All we know about her father is that he was a chef and was divorced from her mother years before Toffee assassinated her.
And that could maybe be why Moon ended up with the Pie Folk whereas Star ended up back in the castle when the unicorn kicked them out of the magic realm. Maybe Moon was born on Pie Island, and the unicorn being stupid thought that wherever they were born was where they belonged.
Kevin Moore
Tom already knows about the kiss. He knows that he's a cuck, he's just hoping he can still be Star's side bitch after this is all over. (Or maybe he wants to be Marco's side bitch.)
I do think that makes sense from within the episode, but as a viewer I've just been feeling lately that, so far at least, the crew seems to have fallen in love with Eclipsa as a person and so never seem to portray her in any kind of less than flattering light as a character. Like she's always right morally, deserves everything she has, is extremely skilled and clever and likable and if she's ever in a scene that's meant to be funny, you're going to be laughing with her and not at her. And when I thought about it, it just seemed to extend into them not doing anything that'll seem like it's making a joke of Eclipsa, even though it wouldn't even be the real her but an actor portraying her.
I did like the overall scene, but considering they did do a good job mocking other stuff that happened , it just seems weird that Eclipsa or her family don't get a mention at all beyond just Star giving the kingdom to monsters. They're Butterflys too and monsters are what this is all about, right?
Maybe from the writers' perspective it could also be seen as distorting the legit points that are being made about Star if they just complain about Eclipsa because monsters, though.
I did think something like that but they didn't seem to confirm anything either way. At first I was thinking maybe they'd have him try to make Moon the Pie Queen, but they never went there.
It being her birthplace could be possible. I did think it was strange that Star was sent back to the castle when she wasn't, since neither one is that closely related to Festivia anyway.
Eli Cooper
The other thing we know about Moon's dad is that the Book of Spells makes a point of saying he didn't even show up for her wedding (freaking Mina Loveberry had the role of giving the bride away instead). So maybe he was the kind of asshole who'd exploit his own amnesiac daughter to make money off of pies.
Brayden Jones
>the crew seems to have fallen in love with Eclipsa as a person >coal burning diversity queen who chose herself over the kingdom and behaves in inherently evil ways - see: her magic and children What's not to love?
Grayson Nguyen
I thought the horse send her to the pie island, because Festivis from there, so her whole family line belongs there, the same way River’s family line comes from the swamp
Lucas Murphy
Some of them have pale skin meaning they are just a greedy criminal ethnic group. Its possible they live on that island because they were pure cancer back on the mainland.
Colton Phillips
Why are the MHC against monster/mewman mixing? Seth and Toffee seem to be the driving force behind the continued conflict with the mewmans, but there's a lot of propaganda fuckery going on, so it's kind of difficult to gauge how much concern I should have for the lizard folk. They're asshats who hold long-term grudges in part because they're near or fully immortal. MHC seem to have very large responsibilities, but don't seem very competent with many of their duties. Glossaryck is a bumbling jackass, and seems to agree with Toffee's plan to fuck over magic.
Is magic the final boss? Star's gonna fight her unicorn child and blow up the realm of magic.
Will this drawfriend return for some funtimes with S4? I sure as hell hope so...
Camden Lopez
I can see an ending in which magic is destroyed and maybe Butterfly rule ends too. I could even see Glossaryck being final boss but I don't actually think the show will go there.
Nathan Ross
Hairy pits
Ethan Stewart
Did we have a thread earlier today? Can someone link it?
Alexander Brown
Glossaryck is precisely who seems to avoid the Realm of Magic for some reason. Even in yesterday's episode he claimed it was a bad idea to restore it.
He is not the final boss but something else related to the Realm.
We still have no idea how Toffee "corrupted" it. We've also seen that whatever Eclipsa's spell does, the magical marks/scars it leaves are some kind of corrupting force because they're one of the few things that taints the color of magic realm from yellow to purple. Perhaps Eclipsa's tapped into some aspect of the power that Toffee ultimately used.
Adam Perez
>Inb4 it turns out to go Demons Souls route. All fun and games until shit goes horribly horribly wrong and worlds and realms start getting fucked
Damn, Foolduke is fucking stacked. Ruberiot needs to cream that pie and put a baby in her right away.
Also, do you guys like the implication that Babby Meteora remembers her previous life, or prefer the mindwipe? I like the latter better since Meteora isn't really dead but instead given a second chance at life. Sort of like Skullnick.
I still have (perhaps misplaced) faith that season 4 can finish on a strong note and make up for the missteps in season 3.
I think of the show has a strong ending, people will say "this was a good show even though season 3 was kind of weak" instead of "ugh, why did I watch this show Nefcy is a fucking hackette!"
I kind of wish they handled the monsters the same way, where while they have the capacity to be good (as the lobsters claws episode showed) many of them are bad because their societies were effectively dismantled by Moon and fucked over by other queens before that. So we have Ludo telling Lobster Claws to "act like a monster" and give him the wand, the monsters from On the Job admiring Buff Frog for his brutality and bragging about how evil they are, and Buff Frog teaching his kids the virtues of being an effective spy.
In season 3, the monsters were all turned into cuddly dindus.
Don't let it get to you user. Nefcy had to do that too after graduating and failing to secure a job. It'sonly time to panic if that's all you're aspiring for
Dylan Miller
I moved back too, own business failed cos you cant compete with many big corps that sell way cheaper than you because of their shitty backdoor deals or they shafting people out of actual fair price in the excuse of being "competitive 2
Colton Turner
Eclipsa's darkest spell is the one which corrupts magic and it was Glossaryck who pushed Moon to use it against Toffee by opening the forbiden chapter. Even Eclipsa warns about that precise spell to be used only if you really need it.
So maybe septarians are closer to magic that we might think and that's why killing them is forbiden by the realm. It's a fact he knew way too much about how the wand works and the level of expertice he achieved with magic in no time is frightening... defeating the MHC and Moon in minutes.
Then there's the septarian queen shown in Total Eclipsa of the Moon. My guess is that septarians used to own the wand and used it to turn themselves into an inmortal race. When Mewmans stole it, they realized how dangerous it was and decided to destroy magic itself (this last part is mentioned in Eclipsa's chapter)
So killing a septarian has a "corrupt" effect because the Realm granted them with said inmortality and you can't deny it. This explains why "dark" magic is so bad ballanced and there are many evil spells that not fall into said category.
>Also, do you guys like the implication that Babby Meteora remembers her previous life, or prefer the mindwipe?
Both scenarios kind of feel like weird fetishy bullshit to me, either she just got erased from existence and is just 100% baby now or she has an adult mind trapped in a body she can't control, but I also admit I'm just salty the plot went that way and that that kind of plot device in a story doesn't appeal to me. Just grosses me out a bit and I guess I don't like babies.
Blake Hernandez
>and I guess I don't like babies. What did babbies ever do to you, user?
Jeremiah Anderson
>Also, do you guys like the implication that Babby Meteora remembers her previous life, or prefer the mindwipe?
I prefer the mindwipe because it would be fucked up to make Meteora's life miserable TWICE. Either way I don't think she has real memories, just an instinct which makes her not to like Marco... this is way funnier.
BTW, the spider monster working as a baby holder is an hillariously cute scene.
Not much. I'm not childfree or anything and I'm fine with kids. I'm just not into babies IRL, but then I also don't bitch about them like I would for Meteora on Yea Forums.
It's more like in a cartoon that's focused on teenagers/adults up to now they don't feel especially interesting or necessary to me (Buff Frog's babies are fine, but those were played more like animals up until Katrina started talking). Actually even the concept of Marco's future sibling doesn't bother me either.
I think the plot device of an adult character being turned into a baby and then treated like one until the series ends and just playing that off as normal is what bothers me, especially because, as I expected was coming, they present it as cute and seem to expect Meteora to be a hit among the fanbase, which I guess she might actually be for people who don't hate the whole concept entirely. It just feels like it could easily be someone's weird fetish scenario, even as I'm completely sure it's not. The concept kind of mildly horrifies me.

new Star Vs. Season 4 thread
Anthony Bell
Wyd, why? We're not halfway done with this one?
Jaxson Rogers
Maybe because we are about to hit the image limit of the thread
Same thing happened with Star learning about Eclipsa for the first time (Into the Wand, 11/7/16) and Star meeting Eclipsa in person (Stranger Danger, 11/7/17).
are we gonna ignore the fact that this is the first time she hasn't given any silly names to her spells and basically was ready to use lethal magic from the looks of this?
Cooper Thompson
>Sorry Star and Marco, your room is not ready yet because I've been busy around here... POSING FOR THE BEST QUEEN PORTRAIT EVER
>unapologetically gypsies >Some of them have pale skin
Now's the time to educate you. No not all gypsies look the same. So much so, that there exist even completely white skinned gypsies, who never intermingled with others because they don't mix with gadjos. And on top of that there are gypsies with dark skin and GREEN eyes. Natural green eyes! Desi people are a mystery.
But if there's any one particular reason why you can't really equate piefolk with gyppos it's probably the fact that some of them are very clearly black. As in actually voiced by a black VA.
Benjamin Miller
She is really into decoration for what we've seen. It was obvious her monster town wasn't going to be a shithole like Moon's Mewni.
But I really can't stand Mewman logic. If I were given the following options:
>Live in an extremely poor and small neighbourhood of white trash without healthcare, any comodities, surrounded by dirt and afraid of enemy attacks.
>Live in a wealthy/medium class neighbourhood with other races without fear of being attacked, where everything is clean and pretty.
I'll go for the second one all the way. What's the point of a Mewman only place if it's going to be worse than the one with monsters? I would understand Mewmans point if we've actually seen the old place being perfect... but that's far from the truth.
I still can't get over glossaryk's new voice. It just sounds wrong.
Joshua Jackson
It will never sound 'right' because we had the same VA for him for 3 seasons.
Jeffrey Tambor getting metoo'd was basically another last-minute hurdle for the svtfoe crew. They probably would have given lil G have a bigger role, since the plot is moving heavily towards magic stuff. But nope. His shit got fucked.
So that's another point that puts pressure on the last season.
I watched all of Star for the first time last year before the S3 finale aired, so I missed all the threads and stuff.
I can't understand people's hateboner for S3. It's true that it's maybe not as consistently good as the latter half of S2, but it has Eclipsa who's a great character and it has a lot of good stuff in it in general. The lame episodes also weren't nearly as lame as the lame episodes in early S2 like with Mina.
What gives?
Xavier Peterson
I love the new Rainbow Fist Punch

Personally I didn't care for the bait and switch with eclipse. She's built up as a big deal and acts suspiciously every time she's around, but in the end just know NDA turned out ditzy. It was a downgrade in antagonists from toffee and ludo. Didn't care for the monsters being blameless fundus either, and the big issue I imagine everyone has is how they dragged out starco further and added more relationship drama, especially doing a disservice to the development Tom's character has been through
Luis Ortiz
Here's some common criticisms:
1. Too many episodes focused on shipping. In the first week of new episodes after Battle for Mewni alone, you've got Scent of a Hoodie, Club Snubbed, Demoncism, Sophomore Slump, and arguably the squire episodes. And it doesn't end there. S1 and S2 not only had much fewer but balanced the ship content with other stuff (ex. Bon Bon isn't just Star getting cucked, but Ludo stealing her spellbook). Pretty much all of these are like pure shipping 2. A lot of time spent on minor characters we'll never see again, so that even important episodes feel like filler (ex. monster expert in Starfari) 3. Retard Glossaryck was a waste of the character. It wasn't a huge complaint at the time but no one's praising it either 4. Tom alternates between being a terrible boyfriend and incredibly nice and self-sacrificing. He's basically whatever to make whatever episode plot work 5. I think Eclipsa's shit, but many don't. But even many of those that don't were disappointed that she was completely innocent and good and that all the hype around her turned out to be misdirection 6. Star made Marco her squire and treated him like her slave. The entire concept just shits on how they felt like equals in the previous seasons. It doesn't seem to have carried over to S4 so far, so here's hoping 7. Heinous is a shit villain. The worst shit. Anons got their hopes up for her not to be shit in Skooled when they somehow came up with an actually great design for her for a single episode, but then lol she's just a giant monster who kills everyone but also wants mommy and now she's a baby, happy ending 8. The monster plotline barely shows actual monsters, and when it does it focuses on characters like Tom who were never defined as monsters before. It all just feels half-assed and weak 9. So much shit happens offscreen or just isn't connected well, enough to make a list of its own, but somehow they also had time for filler. In S2 much less was offscreened
Isaac White
10. Mina Loveberry also wasn't a threatening villain, but the concept of a Mewman villain against monsters made sense narratively so it felt like acceptable buildup to something. Then she just jobs offscreen and that's apparently it. She also has a fairly significant backstory that will probably never be touched on in the show itself even though it's completely relevant to the main plot, and you'd only know it if you read the spellbook which not all viewers will do (one of Eclipsa's mother Solaria's magically enhanced super-soldiers) 11. Star did so little onscreen in S3. She was doing stuff in the background that was important for like the whole season, but the show would always shift focus to an extremely minor character or the Eclipsa and Moon dynamic duo. It's like they realized that if Star was too active the extremely thin plot ("hey, Eclipsa's daughter Meteora isn't in the records anywhere") would be solved too quickly 12. Related to this, Star is explicitly compared to Eclipsa multiple times in S2, but that comes to practically nothing and Eclipsa instead keeps getting paired with Moon 13. Are the MHC now supposed to be looked down on for their role in the baby swap? Fuck knows 14. There's a weird one-drop rule thing where Star and her ancestors are supposedly filthy peasants who don't deserve the throne, even though they did rule Mewni for years and own the wand and breed with royalty etc. It's like the show supposedly against racism is fetishizing blood purity 15. We don't know SHIT about Eclipsa in the show itself, and narratively it feels like Star should be bitten in the ass for trusting her just based on "but she was in love :(" But the image the spellbook presents of her makes it clear that likely won't happen. It feels like more buildup to no payoff. 16. Where the fuck was Ludo 17. The monsters leave Mewni and it's played as a big tragedy, except we never see them all season and they come back in the first episode of S4 anyway
Jaxson Wilson
18. There's a lot of Pony Head and she's about as relevant as she was in S2, which was not much. But at least in S2 she showed up less 19. Kelly is nobody. She has no reason to exist other than to be occasional shipbait for Marco, or at least the writers seem to think so because she's barely used or given any definable personality 20. Giving the wand and kingdom away was dumb when Star didn't know anything about Eclipsa OR her family. It doesn't yet seem that's going to be portrayed as dumb though. The ending of S3 seemed slightly ominous but so far it hasn't been. Yet again it feels like hinting stuff only to just not do anything 21. It was often fucking boring and the delivery of jokes was incredibly drawn-out and weird, but that's more subjective compared to some of this other stuff. I will say that so far even S4 hasn't felt like that so I don't know what the crew was thinking at the time
It just feels like a totally different show now, and even if you're really invested in Star or Marco or Starco it's hard to feel the same about anything else because so much has deliberately or unintentionally changed from what initially drew fans in.
Liam Peterson
Did you really spend that much time hating on a children cartoon to write a con list?
Wow, there's a big problem here and it's not in the show.
Even if is good concept. Now we have to accept that Star never told Marco or anybody about a photo from the future and just stick it to the fridge. Also suddenly she use it to predict events, this is bullshit.
This show looks like Poz'd Tumblr trash. It's pro-gay too. Just what we need, more propaganda to make our kids faggots with no sense of traditional values and morality.
How are boys gonna grow up to be providers and girls homemakers if they're raised on shows like this?
Jason Ward
>Also suddenly she use it to predict events, this is bullshit. I must say it definitely looks like some of this was written or changed at the last fucking minute. Because right now the beach day photo 'from the future' is just raising more questions and problems.
>Oh yeah she was to shocked right BULL. SHIT. Eventually she had to go back to her home and rule her future kingdom.
At the time she was stll shook from the fucking Love Sentence concert. It didn't really matter that much what she was going to do with Marco in the future. I guess the best way to describe her confession is basically running away from her responsibilities. The bagagge of not telling Marco the truth and still having a crush on him was basically dumped on everybody else at the party by Star.
But that didn't really ruin anything for jarco. It had no effect on either of them. Marco was sad after Star left, but he still had some relatively good time with Jackie for a while. Jarco ending was pretty much just Marco's fault.
>And, even with that, she started dating Tom. Neither of them really wanted a relationship. It just kinda happened.
>How are boys gonna grow up to be providers and girls homemakers if they're raised on shows like this?
They will all grow up to be lecherous, soulless nobodies. Sybarite ghosts of the 'great' humankinde. They will drag down all of civilization by the neck of the western world. And all of Earth will burn in a fiery inferno of death and suffering. Over and over. Mountains of broken bodies beneath a sunless sky.
So let me get this straight: >Initial wave of Mewmans to colonise Mewni = The English >Modern Mewmans in the Kingdom = Americans >Monsters = Native Americans >Pie folk = Irish and other more recent immigrants to the US but the Irish in particular
Well in S2 Glossaryck said wand magic only skimmed the surface of her potential. I also like how dynamic and actiony hand magic is compared to wand magic
I guess you could put it that way, but this is basically the same argument as Zootopia. You could assign all these fictional made up characters and groups to ones in the real world. You could probably assign all of them into various systems that would compliment each other in their own context and look like sound scenarios.
But the fact is that fictional worlds are incomplete in relation to the real world, therefore, comparisons between the two are not always plausible.
Nicholas Cooper
Well, when literal immigrants can obliterate or transform you with a wave of a hand, you can't complain too hard

I don't agree with all of this but I do with the general idea that S3 felt like a turning point. Tons of wasted potential, pacing was all over the place, the villians weren't as interesting, and an overall lack of good character moments. It wasn't terrible, just wasn't as interesting as Toffee's calculated schemes and dealing with the ramifications of that. The plot didn't build in the same way because it was split on so many avenues and as a result it just felt too jumbled to enjoy as much as S2
Chase Price
Why can’t they just have Tom find new friends? His girlfriend cheated on him with his best friend that’s like the most valid reason you can get to end everything.
Lincoln Bailey
What was the deal with Marco and Eric exchangning drag queen tips?
It’s been shown countless times how insecure he is from the situation, and the only person he confide to is the perpetrator of the insecurity. It’s beyond ridiculous to me how Tom is most likely gonna remain friends with both the perpetrators of his insecurity in the first place.
Tom’s friendship with Marco feels like it happened by proxy since he is the only other recurring male character that the fans and staff liked.
Nathan Ward
Where’s the porn of all the new characters? Did tumblrs ban kill off most of that?
Nathaniel Baker
Good to see someone realized how bad the plot was. The show should have ended after Toffee was defeated.
This is precisely why I want Globgor and Marco to bond. He needs to stay away from Star's toxic shadow for a while and grow as a character along a strong male figure.
>Need wand to cast spells. >Lose wand. >Can still cast spells.
Losing the wand means nothing if you can still cast spells.
Hudson Taylor
It didn't even make sense because Marco looked perfect as a girl the first time when Star magic'd him into one. So why would he need to worry about makeup and contouring, etc.? He could just ask Star to zap him into a perfect girl again any time. But I guess Cotugno wanted to throw that out there for the trans Marco fans to make sure everyone knows he's super enthusiastic about crossdressing now.
The more I read this shit the more I picture these opinions coming from butthurt shippers who lost. Probably because it's true.
Liam Diaz
It turned me on too, user...I wish there was more stuff like it on the show/in fanart. It wasn’t really a confusing boner though, I love fucked up TFs like that

>Too many episodes focused on shipping This is all it starts off with.
A lot of S2fags complain about shipping in S3. Despite the fact S2 has been literally nothing but relationship developing. It really was if you really look at it. S3 had it's shipping moments but honestly, it felt like it developed the evil plot mcuh better than the previous season.
That kinda gave me a clue that these opininons came from youknowwho.
Look at this: >3. Are the MHC now supposed to be looked down on for their role in the baby swap? Fuck knows Why don't you decide for yourself you fucking faggot >18. There's a lot of Pony Head But at least in S2 she showed up less You know very well why PH exists >16. Where the fuck was Ludo He didn't need to have a role in S3. The focus was put on Moon instead. We'll see him in time. >17. The monsters leave Mewni and it's played as a big tragedy, except we never see them all season and they come back in the first episode of S4 anyway You do realize that time skips between episodes existed since 100000000 B.C.? >12. Related to this, Star is explicitly compared to Eclipsa multiple times in S2, but that comes to practically nothing and Eclipsa instead keeps getting paired with Moon In POWER. They are similarly strong in magikks. That's why they're compared. Star has no reason going on adventures with Eclipsa, she has Marco for that.
This is just a select few, but every one of these are really fucking petty. Petty enough to hate the show just because Jackie got shafted. Petty enough to not realize that the show was always the same imperfect mess, S2 included.
Easton Young

That never sat well with me. The whole crossdressing stuff only really seemed to start after the brainwashing at St. Olga since he said that he'd have preffered he be turned into one of the guards, and only said that if he could keep the dress after the solitary conforment chamber.
Jeremiah Young
>Implying it wasn't Tom the one that took that picture
Chase Bennett
so was that picture actually a thing in that horrible Father Time episode — I can't remember what happened in that episode, except that Star had a cactus headband instead of the horns I thought it was interesting how they brought it up in S4 and how it's why she stays hopeful about the future
>horrible Father Time episode You take that back! It actually gave good context for Marcos stasis with regards to Jackie. And actually showed just how much Star's influence on Marco had on his own growth and quality/variety in life. >there's also the 72 hour non-stop hangout /DATE ... which was a neat bonus to an otherwise fun episode. Typical of Yea Forums to dislike fun...
I remember Father Time kind of annoying me, too much like Glossaryck or something. But I'm sure Star and Marco were good in that episode because it's in S1.
But was the "Beach Day!" picture brought up in Freeze Day? In Butterfly Follies Star mentions how Father Time gifted it to her, did that happen on-screen?
Jaxon Adams
I'd assume so. In the comics they visited him again and they were on "hey pals!" terms. I like that goof, he's a nice dude.
Asher Murphy
Who's the artist for this picture? Image search isn't helpful.
Liam Flores
>But was the "Beach Day!" picture brought up in Freeze Day? Not at all. The conclusion of that episode was Star realizing that Marco is awkward as fug, and trhoughout all the years the only thing he could do is nod at Jackie.
But there was absolutely no sign of any photo whatosever. Right now, it really does look like they pulled this 'future beach day' thing out of somewhere soft and warm.
Jackson Morales
>did that happen on-screen? Think it was off-screen, champ
This is such a cool idea for Marco to grow, since at the end of the day, he should be Star's Globgor as both figt having each other back and tried to being change to the kingdoms since young age, but sadly Globgor is probably just appearing in the last 5 episodes of the season to be redeem after a battle with little interaction with the world around him

>Maybe. It depends if Marco is actually gonna ge some time to shine outside of shipping. I.e something like a squire competition Since there not really a royal family anymore and castle is in ruins, does this means the knights title mean nothing now?
All those guys have nothing to protect anymore, but themselves and can't call just say they're the knights of nothing, i wonder if Higgs hates Star and Marco for making her's life work nothing now
Jacob Adams
We saw some of the knights (Lavabo and the black woman) the monster temple, so apparently they're serving Eclipsa now since she's the new queen.

Is there a mega folder for season 4 as a whole so we can know in advance where to go for the latest episodes?
Aiden Morales
I think it's weird that you mentioned "shippers" because as the user who wrote those posts I can honestly say I don't ship anything at all. In fact that's why the shipping episodes annoyed me so much; because the concepts themselves just weren't my thing.
You'd also think as a supposed "shipper who lost" I'd mention Jackie at any point, but I didn't, because I'm not. I think Sophomore Slump was one of the few well done shipping or regular episodes of the entire season.
But your other points: >S2 has been literally nothing but relationship developing. It really was if you really look at it I don't even know what to say to this because it's objectively false. I even listed all the shipping episodes within the first week of the S3 bomb alone. There aren't nearly as many episodes focused entirely on romance to the exclusion of other things, which was a specific factor I pointed out (not just the existence of shipping alone), in all of S2. >Why don't you decide for yourself you fucking faggot I'm saying the show's done a bad job of portraying that up until now when it should be fairly important. >You know very well why PH exists For filler? Because the larger purpose of my complaint was that there was a lot of time wasted around her. I don't even have a problem with the character, or didn't before, but her appearances were excessive this season. >He didn't need to have a role in S3. I actually agree, but I think he was one of the few characters still portrayed well and I was saying absence was a negative. >You do realize that time skips between episodes existed since 100000000 B.C.? I wasn't talking about the timeskip at all (which was also a major flaw of S3 though). I was saying the moment of the monsters leaving, which was played as a big turning point, had no impact because they were never shown much before that and were never mentioned until they returned at the start of the new season anyway. It was nothing.
Josiah Howard
>In POWER. They are similarly strong in magikks. That's why they're compared. Star has no reason going on adventures with Eclipsa, she has Marco for that. I agree that was probably why they were compared, but the buildup didn't feel like that at all within S2 and so it was disappointing that that was all it was. The end of Baby especially was ridiculous if all they meant was "both r strong" because it was implying more similar personalities etc. In fact that's not even wrong; Eclipsa still IS portrayed as similar to Star. It's just not built on in any way, and, as I mentioned, she's always paired with Moon, for some reason, even though that's like a bit of a retread of the Moon/Star dynamic that already exists.
I also never said I wanted Star to go on "adventures" with her; I fucking hate Eclipsa. It just feels like a massive fucking flaw for one character to be barely involved with another character who got hyped up before even appearing as a parallel to that first character. I do think they'll interact more in S4, but my point was that it wasn't what a lot of fans really wanted or what the show itself seemed to be leading up to. >Petty enough to hate the show just because Jackie got shafted. I'm not a Jackie fan/Jarco shipper, and looking back over my posts I can confirm I mentioned Jackie zero (0) times, because the Jarco breakup was one of the few things I thought was done well. Don't project those anons onto my own points, because I dislike the obsessive Jackie fans too. >Petty enough to not realize that the show was always the same imperfect mess, S2 included. When did I ever say S2 was perfect? I said it was BETTER.
Adam Sanders

Anyone else think that sidelong glance Eclipsa gave to Star after showing her the efforts to free Globgor were suspect? Something along the lines of "I know that you know of a method of freeing my husband... won't you tell me?" but then drops the subject when Star doesn't respond any further.

yep. saw that, thought they were finally make her sneaky. They're gonna pull the rug out from under us aren't they?
I would agree, but only if it includes a rasticore realizing "oh shit, she's actually kinda hot this time around" but then she dumps his ass for Marco/Marco Jr. What?? Isn't this the thing you cuck posters / suffering fags get hard for?
Jaxon Thomas
>had the tune Moon was humming even appeared on the show before? I know Star recited it at one point but it was played as "you should recognize this" when as far as I'm aware only the characters did I think it was just an Easter Egg for the people who read The Book of Spells because it's in there. I recognized that Moon was involved witht he Pie Folk because of the butterfly designs on the pies which is also in the book. The book probably has more foreshadowing for season 4, in minor ways, than we realize.
If one thinks about it, The pies indicated that it's the whole New butterfly line that is the one related to the piefolk instead of just saying "Moon is with the piefolk. During the whole sectilon there were bits that alluded to them loving making pies, not to mention that the butterfly, well, the "moth" has been a staple of the piefolk for a long time according to Foolduke. Moon learned the little moth because her mom taught her how to do it, so it's probable Comet learned it from her mom, and so on and so forth until we reach Festivia.
And then she seduces Marco Jr because he's like Marco but doesn't create the primal hate-reaction.
Liam Rodriguez
...anyone know how the "moth" symbology play into Festivia's royal line in comparison to what we've seem of Eclipsa's "butterfly" line. Is there some hidden meaning behind these symbols that appear similar, but operate in diametrically opposed lifestlyes
I dunno, not even sure. Most i can think of would be that, while the old line actually tried to do something about their hostile relationship with the monsters, the new butterfly line was basically a hard reset on history, with Festivia not even knowing anything about a complex problem nor how to even acknowledge there was one, she basically just "PAAARTAAAAAAYYYY EVERYBUDY! LET'S FORGET ABOUT THE PROBLEMS AND BLAME OTHERS FOR IT! WOOOOOOHOOOOOO" a la bread and circus, because she didn't knew anything at all. Those who forget history are condemned to repeat it. But then again, i'm no entomologist, so i don't know about moth and butterfly life cycles.
I think he never liked her since he didn't even show any indication at all, and the moment she was starting to express both her liking him he bailed because he didn't reciprocated her feelings. That and also mixed with her being insane
Hunter Jenkins
Why did he stay around after being completely healed then? Meteora had no money to pay him for his services.
I'll go for the "don't stick your dick in crazy" theory and that he was fine with her before the St. Olga incident.
But we can all agree Gemini did love Heinous even at her lowest >"If you wanted my heart, you just had to ask for it"
Still doubt that is indication he had a thing for her. Also, raiding what's basically a castle full of lots of money and valuables and nothing remote to actual security seems rather obvious
Christopher Sanders
I think it's just meant to be another blow to Star's pride in her family history since a moth is basically an "ugly" version of a Butterfly. Like your golden family heirloom being made of fool's gold.
Alexander Cooper
And even if i place Rasticore over him, i still like Gemini. He was a lovable fellow who deserves his own post as well.
If Tom's so great why isn't he helping Star look for Moon?
Easton Stewart
Maybe because he gets shut out every time he tries to show interest in her activities?
Don't you remember him pretty much singlehandedly destroying the babymonster last season? And giving the speech for Mewni and Monster unity? He obviously cares. But Star gives him NOTHING but emotional neglect. For the past like 15 episodes. Star and Marco /are/ good for each other in that they're both assholes.
Also I'm willing to bet Star didn't even invite him along, and just auto-invited Marco. Notice how Tom is calling like trying to figure out wtf they're even up to. Fuck this 'romantic' plot. They're just assholes.
