Just as Quality as the Lego Movie. Why did make so little at the box office? Who was your favourite new Character? Anything you'd want in the LEGO Movie 3: the 3rd Part if it happens?
Lego Movie 2
Because, they had Batman floss, something that shouldn't even be possible with a minifig.
fav character?
This cuties
Lego 3?
Nothing really, I rather have a tv show
Franchise Fatigue, making a Ninjago movie was fuking stupid
>b-but it was the first lego show
No one give a fuck, movies are made based on how much money they can make, there is no way fucking ninjago would break even and it just made people tired of Lego.
Lego Batman should be AFTER lego movie 3.
Good taste.
Who is the best and why is it Benny
>fav character
The Queen is underrated
Nobody knew this film was coming out, it seemed. When people started talking about it there was surprise it had come out at all, period. There was very little hype for this movie, as other anons put it. There's also the idea that it was hurt very early on because of the boys vs. girls slant of the first trailer, which wasn't really the core of the movies' conflict.
On the other hand, looking around periodically one does see ads and promotional attempts for TLM2, but none seemed to garner much attention. Was it because there was less, or because it was misplaced, that this was the case? Maybe it really was franchise fatigue? I have no idea, but it's a shame nontheless because I enjoyed it.
It came in a bad time, right behind Captain Marvel and Battle Angel Alita
>People went to watch battle angel little wing
Blergh...
It's a good /m/ovie for people who aren't into /m/ though
Normies would prefer to watch a random live action movie with robots than a cartoon movie
>favorite new character
>new
Best girl, as usual.
Franchise fatigue and barely any advertising.
Or maybe just Ninjago. Cuz seriously guys, what the fuck?
gentleman of taste
So lame that the characters in "Friends of Heartlake City" look like generic CGI characters instead of the actual LEGO toys.
Franchise fatigue and lack of good marketing.
That said, with how legitimately great it was I can see it get back it profit via DVD/digital distribution sales.
The advertising was really weird. Like instead of having a normal advertisement they released the entire Lego Movie 1 film for free through Youtube ad space.
Which don't get me wrong, is pretty based, but how the fuck is that going to make people know there's another film?
He did nothing wrong.
While it was clear early on where they were going, I still wanted to see Emmitt smash all the Queen's stuff and was still glad that it happened, since that sister was a big jerk for taking her brother's stuff without asking.
>That spoiler
Saying the sister is in the wrong is objectively hypocritical since Emmet (human Emmet that is) literally did the same exact shit with his father and his father learned to share.
The sister LITERALLY did nothing wrong just like Rex.
Still a terrible communicator and all around dumby.
Honestly both Lego Movies is one of those things where you can argue nobody really did anything wrong and the point is that everyone just needs to communicate better. It's one of the things I love about it.
>Why did make so little at the box office?
Releasing two Lego movies in 2017 was a mistake. Plus there are a billion Lego videos on Netflix, and those are just as effective at shutting up their kids for a minute.
>Just as quality as the Lego Movie
You guys must have really low standards if you really think that
Just as quality as the Lego Movie isn't really high praise imo. Was pretty much just Kung Fu Pana with Legos. It wasn't bad, but I didn't find it all that great either.
Half the country was snowed in or very very wet.
Alita was a fine movie. Most people went to see "What men want" instead of either of those
>Imax
i'd love to see it at Imax. Sadly they were shwoing Alita instead.
I think it was good, lego movie was great, every single character was likeable, here i couldnt not stand couple of characters.
I saw it in 3D. it looked pretty dope.
Why didn't you see it Opening Weekend? I'm sure they had it in IMAX probably IMAX 3D even then.
Because it didn't need a sequel.
It didn't know it needed a sequel
>Ninjago movie is shit AND ruins the show
i mean, it was ok.
lol. I'd like to see a webm showing that.
The twist for the first movie was good, but the “it was all in the kids imagination” is like “it was all a dream”. I won’t pay to watch a kid play with his toys for 2 hours.
If there’s a Lego Batman 2 I’ll see it in the theater, because at least that has “real” characters. All Lego Movie movies I’ll wait until Netflix has them.
I do know a lot of people who feels the same way.
on a similar note, I just felt there was no need FOR a second one. The first one was a silly movie with a heartfelt ending, and I get they wanted to milk the cow, but I just didnt feel the need to see it when the first one was already such a good open and shut case.
No marketing. Like 0.
Nobody really wanted pt. 2 desu, the ending in 1. was perfect.
Is it really because she is or is it because you just like big tiddy goth gf?
Time travel being forced into non-time travel movies fucking sucks.
Nope, they didn't. (Poland)
The Lego Movie was perfect. As good as it could be.
To me this meant a sequel could only pale in comparison and tarnish the whole franchise,
and I've zero interest in watching a perfect franchise be tarnished.
Anyone could repost anthro version of Disco Unikitty?
It's actually the fourth Lego movie. Of course people would be sick of it. They also sacked Rob Schrab and replaced him, so they've brought this upon themselves.
First problem is that the brand is spread too thin and their estimation of consumer demand is too optimistic. There have been no less than *11* home movies, 4 shows, 2 theatrical movies, and countless specials and shorts since the first Lego Movie. This sequel is no longer an event.
Second is sequel fatigue, not just of Lego movies but CGI movies. We got Incredibles 2 and Wreck it Ralph 2 last year, and even the people who enjoyed them have realized that they were not essential. Incredibles, Wreck It Ralph, and Lego Movie are all perfectly self-contained stories. There's no compelling argument that these sequels are must-sees.
Fav? Either Rex, and if u watched the movie u know y, or Sweet Mayhem.
Just finished watching it. It isn't bad but it is nowhere near the first. The story, the setting and the characters are simply just not that interesting as before. Absolutely lacks high points the first movie had a lot and it shows with the inclusion of the tons of musical numbers. Some scenes are barely tied together and while the twist villain wasn't that bad it still ruins rewatching the movie. Too much meaningless real world stuff (apparently now everyone can move effortlessly in it). The tons of figures are great but every big scene feels somewhat extremely small in scale compared to the first. I did expect much more but as with many sequels it couldn't deliver.
>apparently now everyone can move effortlessly in it
Wat? Nobody does.
Emmet and Rex are obviously fighting in the real despite Emmett could barely throw himself around a few times in the first movie. Rex is somewhat justified but still very far fetched he got up in a few years and built what the hell he wanted in the real. In the end every other character sing a song and gets out of the storage box to save Emmett. Of course it could be the kids playing with them but then how did they find Emmett? The movie has quite a few problems like this, for example the alien planet where R&E lands and they just walk into the Queens city out of nowhere.
This coupled with the fact that the original movie never felt like there could be a sequel
Emmet was TRYING to fight, he would flop around ineffectively while rex fucking beat his shit in. The rest happens in the Lego world, as represented by the area getting covered in bricks.
I can't help but feel like the movie turned out to be what the first one mostly avoided: being a cynical big screen toy commercial.
In the first one it felt like the sets were based on scenes from the movie (or background stuff in case of all the 2 in 1 vehicles) while in the second one it seemed a lot more like the movie was made to promote the sets, the worst example being when the Party Bus opened up in a "look what the set can do and it's only $89.99!" way.
Poor advertising, waiting too long for a sequel, oversaturation of Lego movies in 2017 etc.
I thought the jokes lacked a lot of the wit of the first one and while it was still visually impressive, all the settings and action felt a little downscaled compared to the first. Musical bits ended up being my favorite part and the queen was always fun to watch.
did you buy Ultrakatty yet, user?
yes - fucking cynical big screen toy commercials
Emoji movie is cynical, TLM2 is honest.
A shit I took this morning is more honest than the Emoji movie, that's not exactly a high bar
>Why did make so little at the box office?
Had to compete with the latest MCU flick.
what movie?
>fatigue
I don’t get why people keep using this as an excuse. Why is there Lego fatigue and Star Wars fatigue but there’s no superhero fatigue, or disney animated movies fatigue, or mission impossible fatigue?
People will go see anything that entertains them. There’s no fatigue, just movies that aren’t as good or as entertaining. This is one of those. The first movie was good, the second is meh, so people didn’t see it.
first one was great second one was good.
WB forgot to market it, and tell us it's a musical.
Again.
>Lego 3?
>Nothing really, I rather have a tv show
A new lego series based on the movie(s) would be something of really good desu, but with ninjago still around i have doubts
There arms disconnected from their joints all the time.
Let's not pretend the show is anything to write home about.
>make so little at the box office
Budget was $99m and they've currently made $164.5m. Has almost doubled its profit. If you mean the weak box office opening weekend it's because
>January and February are difficult months for the theater vs summer release
>winter weather was really bad that weekend for the whole US
>people complaining about "not enough advertising" despite it being constantly advertised on kid's channels and merch put out
Really worth seeing more than once because modern kid's films are so shit these days and this is easily kid's film of the year.
>inb4 award gets stolen by Frozen 2 even though it looks like it's gonna be more of the same shit from before but set in fall this time
According to interviews, it’s actually the other way around. They designed the party bus prop around the script calling for it to open.
The ending for the first film blatantly baited for a sequel, whether you think it needed one or not. LM2 tied up all the loose ends.
TLM had subtle minifig movements, in Lego Batman they aid fuck it and made thing's like Batman bobbing his head during a song for example.
they dont care anymore i guess.
>duplo alien isn't actually duplo
What a gyp
>the ending of the first movie is literally "haha great, but now you gotta share the legos with your little sister" "what?!"
Did you really think that was only a joke and not sequel bait?
Totally backwards. Not only did they make the sets around the film, but the first film kept constantly flashing how many IPs it had (every single master builder) while the second was reusing most of its IPs while adding some newer original content to keep things fresh.
it's as much sequel bait as the underminer in the Incredibles.
All my Keks!
Saved!
it was as much sequel bait as the end credit scene in spider verse.
Rex himself said none of what was happening was happening at all. It's seriously possible that Rex didn't actually time travel; it does not exist. It's a product of Finn's imagination because Rex is an extension of Finn, just like Emmet is an extension of Finn, with only Rex really realizing this because of how directly he is connected to Finn's feelings of needing to grow up and be more manly. As Rex said himself, everything happening was allegorical for the death of imagination in the mind of an adolescent. Emmet and Rex are literally different sides of Finn.
