Does anyone else not give a shit about comics anymore...

Does anyone else not give a shit about comics anymore? Every character has deviated so far from their iconic selves that it's just frustrating to read. I mean, most of the main event heroes were essentially unchanged for decades but now we have to deconstruct everything. I even fibd the MCU tiresome at this point.

Maybe you should be brave and step outside of the world of Marvel and DC for once in your life

You never gave a shit about "comics", you were into brand names and wiki descriptions

Wallace and Gromit is unironically the only good UK animation.

Read some IDW or Image stuff. TMNT, Godzilla, Invincible.

I've read a lot of interesting stuff lately. LoEG is good, working on Crossed now. But, I used to care a lot about mainstream superheroes, DC in particular.

Then what's your problem? You've found a lot of good stuff lately but at the same time don't give a shit anymore?

>Crossed
ew

What about Watership Down and Plague Dogs?

They're okay. Perhaps "cartoon" would have been the better term.

>Every character has deviated so far from their iconic selves that it's just frustrating to read
Development was the original APPEAL.
>I mean, most of the main event heroes were essentially unchanged for decades
That was the first sign it was all turning to shit.
reeeeeeeeeeeeee

That sums it up.

The problem (for me at least) is that every superhero either is or has been an asshole. You have Spider-Man trying to kill a kid in Superior to save himself. You have Superman letting his son go into space with his father who had tried to destroy Earth. You have Booster fucking up Batman’s timeline for a dumb wedding gift that doesn’t make sense.

It’s hard to look at these “heroes” when they all are either violent, selfish, stupid, or all of the above. It’s what happens when you let writers shit in characters to make them “flawed” and come across like immoral sociopaths.

Right. They've lost their nobility. Flaws don't necessarily make them interesting.

Nigga just read older DC shit
That was their jam. Marvel's ALWAYS been about flawed fuckers and eventually DC started copying them.

I do, post-Crisis stuff mostly

>POST-Crisis
Now when I said "eventually"...

Well done OP, you grew out of capeshit. Uncle Alan would be proud. Now it's time to start reading actually good comics.

I agree with this guy. I started getting Silver Age Marvel and Bronze Age DC (Jack Kirby stuff) and I'm having a good-ass time. If you wanna see, or see again, what made the characters good, get the older runs. Kirby FF is godlike, and one of the best runs I've gotten into (only at #32 tho)

>If you wanna see what made the characters good, get the older runs.
>Kirby FF is godlike
The irony there is palpable.
You know what fukkit I'm not even gonna risk ambiguity THE OG FF RUN WAS ABOUT CHANGE AND DEVELOPMENT AND MOVING THE FUCK FORWARD THIS IS WHY THEY'VE BEEN WORTHLESS FOR 30 YEARS MARVEL STOPPED THAT SHIT DEAD AND ZOMBIFIED THE WHOLE SETTING "ICONIC SELVES" ARE A MYTH AND THE STAUS QUO IS THE PROBLEM REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I don't think these are mutually exclusive points. The SIlver Age was about change (I have Dikto Spidey, Kirby Thor and some Kirby FF), but still represents what mode those characters enjoyable. Later runs either have shit changes or use some version of the status quo badly. The Silver Age was arguably the best era for change, while establishing what made them good. Peter Parker changed, but there was no dumb shit like him being a clone. The FF changed, but had a solid format within which the changes occurred. The changes were development of character, not dumb changes that achieved little

jokes on you, i only watch cartoons from time to time
and read manga

I agree with everything you said and don't see the inconsistency.
I guess I'm defining "CHANGE" rather narrowly. Lasting meaningful warranted change, like you said. Gimmicky-ass changes, like you also said, "achieved little". Because all the modern (i.e. post 1990, incl SpideyClone) examples take place in the zombieMarvel deadzone the above compilation is heralding. Time finally snapped, consequences stopped sticking, and 'a dollar today' became all that mattered to the publisher. So 99% of change isn't lasting, meaningful or warranted anymore. It's all vapid glitz that the writers themselves KNOW will be undone within a year or two.
