Carol Danvers is everything wrong with comic books...

Carol Danvers is everything wrong with comic books. This isn't a thread about the movie because I don't give a shit about the movie. What the issue is is that Carol is Captain Marvel and exists and is pushed into everything specifically because Disney wanted to have a female hero specifically to put into the movie. Unlike nearly every other hero that exists and continues to exists based on it's own merits and popularity, Carol exists as CM and is pushed into everything BECAUSE Disney wanted a movie. She has no character as to be expected from someone who was pushed by hollywood executives and her continued inclusion into the Marvel Universe is a constant reminder that Marvel comics only exist to promote movies. As soon as Marvel movies stop being as profitable, Marvel as a comic brand will likely be discontinued.

YTMND

So which female hero do you want to have a movie?

Carol is Captain Marvel and is pushed into everything specifically because Marvel sold the rights to the X-Men - and Storm - to Fox back in the day. Now I understand why they did it at the time, it's not as though they could see the future, but when it came time for them to roll out their Big Female Superhero movie they were forced to improvise. Could they have handled it better? Fuck yes, but had they retained the X-Men rights I have no doubts that a bunch of spin-off movies starring Storm would have been made years and years ago.

Sad casuals buy into this completely inorganic product presented as an icon. Indie capeshitters have done better in less time.

Literally one of the worst characters in comics who is so worthless that her only real use should be stuffed in a fridge.

Look I'll make it very simple and clear: Captain Marvel is really worth a watch. It's just entertaining and visually impressive, exactly what it was meant to be.

Just keep this in mind that it's an origin story so don't go looking for an overstuffed complex story. It's just a fun action movie that introduces us to a new superhero Captain Marvel, played brilliantly by Brie Larson. I became an instant fan watching her in this action heroine avatar, something she manages to pull off with ease. Watch her in the action sequences and there's no way you can't be impressed. Viewers were literally cheering for some of the most heroic moments in the film. Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury is as awesome as always, it's just that his character feels even better and refined than what we've seen. Jude Law is also quite good, and so are Ben Mendelsohn and Lashana Lynch.

But the one character that ultimately steals the show is Goose, the cat. Some of the sequences involving her are so hilarious that it was really difficult to stop laughing.

Visual effects are excellent, and the IMAX 3D viewing just elevated them. And since it's most importantly an action movie, every single action sequence it delivers is impressive, especially the train sequence. I would call it one of the major highlights of the movie. Cinematography in certain portions is really impressive. Humor, like any other MCU movie, is top notch and really manages to make you laugh.

Captain Marvel has a simple-looking origin story presented and executed in a terrific manner. The directors have done a great job with the characterization of Captain Marvel, and that is what makes everything in the film seem so good. The pace is brisk, gore is minimal to no, and there's nothing unsuitable for kids

Not OP, but I think Wanda would have been a much better choice.
First of all, because she already had presence in previous movies, instead of being shove right after the last one.

Elizabeth Olsen has publicly said she does not want to be in a Scarlet Witch movie. so even if the offer was made to her, the offer was probably very low because she is not RDJ or Chris Evans-level draw, so she she would have turned it down.

Storm
Scarlet Witch
Mystique
Rogue
Black Widow
Psylocke
Misty Knight
Jessica Jones
Gwen Stacy
Dazzler
Wasp
Kitty Pryde
Kamala Khan
Sin
Emma Frost
Elektra
Gamora
Spider Woman
Enchantress
Silk
Angela
Death
Selene
Squirrel Girl

Anyone other than a bland character who was comatose and literally nobody cared about her for over 30 years?

>Silk
Opinion discarded and pissed on.

Yet still better than Captain Has To Be Reinvented Four Times Before Anyone Gives A Fuck About Her.

All you're proving is that you never read a single issue with her if you think she isn't as bad as Captain Marvel.

You seem to not understand. So let me make it simple enough for you (a heroic deed). Anyone would be more interesting than some milquetoast white, blonde cunt whose only contribution is giving her powers to someone else. I don't give a fuck who. It could be Gamora's wet fart and it'd be better than Captain Ms. Binary Marvel Danvers whose creation can be summed up in "How can we make the most boring character possible?"

Wanda was never going to get a movie, as a lifelong team character who also (until this year) had her film rights co-owned by a rival company.

The people who are getting Disney+ streaming series are 100% not pissed about that because every one of them - Olsen, Bettany, Stan, Mackie, even Tom Hiddleston - never expected to be the star of any MCU project, so this is a promotion.

The issue with Captain Marvel is not that they had a better choice for a superpowered female lead, it's that both the comics and the movies have made her a blank slate (in both cases wiping her memories and making her a spectator to her own past) because they wanted her to be their Generic Lady Star.

>Yeah I didn't read her, but she has to be better!
You are dumber than a bag of rocks so this is my last (you). You're so mad that you're literally suggesting that they promote a female character that was bitten by the same Spider that bit Peter, made out to be better than him despite being locked in a containment unit for most of her life, and spent most of her time jumping on him because of phermones out of control and treated like slott rubbing one out to his asian fetish, and it'll sell? Get the fuck out of here causal. Also nice job recommending Mystique when people are already sick of her due to her being forced front and center by Fox. List reads like you just googled Female Marvel heroes because half your picks cant carry a solo or have the same issues you're pissing and moaning about Captain Marvel for.

Please feel free to kill yourself. You'll do us all a great favor.

I accept your surrender, faggot.

Fuck yeah I’d watch a Misty Knight movie.

The cute thing is you think this is a fight when it's just the universe wishing you'd take a bath with a space heater.

Angela would be great if they fucking ignore everything from the Marvel comics and make her an actual Angel who goes to Earth to hunt down Blackheart or whatever demon and tie her more to the occult and magic side of Marvel. Maybe deal with Satanna or Daimon or Man-Thing or whatever.

Like a lot of people I found Carol interesting when she came back to the Avengers in the 1998 run as a washed-up alcoholic fuck-up who was so desperate to get back on the Avengers that she hid the fact that she'd lost her Binary powers.

Most of her stories from then until the 2012 relaunch were about her being a superhero who had botched her shot at greatness but was trying to do better.

I'm not saying they should have stuck with that forever because it clearly hadn't made her a big star. But the Disney approach to female characters is basically the FROZEN approach: their flaw is not being able to accept how awesome they are. (To be fair they pull this shit with male characters too, but Tony Stark became their flagship character because he actually has flaws that go beyond insufficient self-esteem.)

I really want doctor strange 2 to set up Mephisto. That would open up a lot of doors for future characters.

You really did not read the original post, did you. OP wasn't talking about the movie. He was talking about the comic character.

Reading is fundamental.

I wonder, considering how Jessica was sucessful and how Orange is the new Black showed people are willing to root for extremely fucked up female characters. Might have been able to find a good middle ground of redeeming herself from being a fuck up since things are so dire.

Its weird that she is portrayed as both a sociopath that always believes she is right and will always do whatever it takes to prove she is right, and also as this star role model that deserves to be celebrated. Like seriously why the fuck is there a "Carol Danvers day"

Its copypasta, user.

>Misty Knight
Heck yeah, brother.
Make it a self-aware blaxploitation movie.
A jive-talkin, kung fu fightin, afro sportin, barber shop hangin, soul singin, tall standin blaxploitation movie proud and unapologetic.
And one of the characters keeps talking in a completely incomprehensible Welsh accent but everyone acts as though nothing was out of the ordinary.

Silk's solo was pretty nice. And like with many recent characters, who once saved from the likes of Slott and Bendis would prove much more agreeable, it's better to ignore anything the creator of the character did.
I still can't believe I'm enjoying a Riri comic after the shitshow her debut was.

Misty could be damn interesting. A lot of the Netflix women could have interesting movies. But nope, we get Yawn Danvers

Not him but Kamala.
Spiderverse proves that people like goofy Marvel. If Marvel wants to do goofy, you can't get more silly than some of her absurd storylines.

Attached: __kamala_khan_and_ms_marvel_marvel_drawn_by_gin_ginshari__3eac859db17624b4698c39cb81cde35c.jpg (494x700, 56K)

The thing is that if any of those women were promoted to the position of Marvel's Greatest Heroine they would be forced to become as bad as Carol.

It's not that Carol was uninteresting before 2012, it's that to make her their One True Female Star they had to get rid of everything that was interesting about her.

I'll have to see for myself if she improved. Still stand by her being a poorer choice for a solo movie considering she faces the same issues as Miles does with fanboys plus extra baggage.

"Trying to do better" should have been her character trait, though.
She wasn't perfect, she wasn't the be-all-end-all superhero. She was simply someone out of her league trying to do her best.

That's endearing. I want to read the Captain Marvel that character evolved into. I don't want to read the Yass queenie slay garbage that has come out of Marvel for the past few years where her problems boil down to
>Being too perfect
>Being too popular
>Being too reliable
>Working too hard

That's the reason people are pissed about her newest runs. No one even cares about trying to make her into the Carol she once was, they just want to make off-brand Superman fanfiction.

Even Superman stories can be interesting because they can show that the man of steel is still a man. They don't even want to do that with Captain Marvel. They essentially want a Superman story where he faces no real character opposition.
Then they wonder why people won't buy her books. Maybe someday they'll learn that there can be more that challenges a woman than evil men who underestimate them. Maybe then they can make good storylines with her.

Attached: nu_marvel.jpg (600x555, 78K)

What if they just made an original female hero to be the MCU's lead lady?

Whenever you suggest making a new character to comicfags they always screech about how new characters can never succeed because comic readers are autistic and only want to read about the same characters for 40+ years
But I don't think a movie original would face this problem since most MCU viewers have never been within thirty yards of a comic shop anyway. It could even be a big selling point: an all new MCU exclusive character! A story that isn't just a retelling of a comic arc from before you were born!

So the obvious solution is a prima inter pares as opposed to the one symbol of... stronk wamen?
Any character would be shit if they get reduced to representing an identity rather than being a person with many traits that form their character, and then they hold identities.
Just imagine if Captain America was not a corny artefact of another time who struggles to square his moral uprightness with his name, but really all about how much he is a man, and how awesome men are. And he's "inspiring" because he's physically strong and he wins, not because he overcomes his foes with a strong character and ingenuity, and his own inadequacies with companions who value him as a person and a leader, not a dispenser of firepower.

A ms Marvel movie would be a much better sequel than more Carol. Only problem is who do you get as a villain

Why are you such a white manbaby MRA incel comicgarter OP?

You scared of a real HERo?

They forced a square peg into a round hole.

Well, people would likely question the validity of a character made for a movie with no real connection to the comics, specifically in the biggest comic-based franchise ever.
You could try and manufacture such a hero, but she would stand out like a sore thumb.
Like Carol does. She was basically manufactured from the ground up for this purpose.
Because Marvel heroes are flawed and human at heart, and people love them the best when they are the most flawed and conflicted.
An almighty teflon barbie just doesn't fit in.

Depends on what you want to do with it.
A teenage drama, Kaboom and Kamran.
An action comedy, Inventor.
A farcical comedy, Canadian Ninja Syndicate.
For a tie-in, use Loki helping them out with the clone Kamalocalypse.

The insignificant comics purist audience maybe, but the normie audience couldn't give less of a shit if a character was originally in the comics or not. Source: Agent Coulson and Harley Quinn

Square pegging would lead to much butthurt, yes.

They used Phillips screwdriver on a Robertson screw.

Neither of which stood out too much, nor were they conceived as central protagonists. Or exemplars of noble virtue stoically standing against the tide.

Is this a pasta?

Yes.

Start with The Inventor as the main threat, with maybe the Canadian Ninjas as hired mooks and comedy relief. Lineage and his Inhuman mafia is better served for a sequel.

I miss that site.

Carol a shit

Is that Hillary Clinton?

She is a Hillary stand in. They both are fascists

kelly sue deconnicks run on CM is the worst comic i have ever read in my life. i had to read dark knight strikes again as a palate cleanser after reading this. thats how bad it is.

she does no superheroing and has absolutely no regard for human life and starts fights fo no reason at all. she is the anti superhero and is an absolute opposite of the superhero archetype. its a fucking embarrassment to the superhero genre. KSD has no idea how comics as a medium even work, everything about ksd's run is anticomic and antisuperhero.

fuck captain marvel and fuck kelly sue deconnick.

>Anyone other than a bland character who was comatose and literally nobody cared about her for over 30 years?
So, I only really know Captain Marvel from the 90s X-Men cartoon, but wasn't she written out of the Avengers in Avengers #200 with Marcus Immortus impregnating her with himself to brainwash her into becoming his love slave, and then she came back a year later in Avengers Annual #10, where she spent the first 2/3rds of the issue - barely more than a day or two in-universe - as a vegetable after Rogue sucked her dry?

Seriously, I know I'm asking a lot, but can anyone give me a bullet-points list of Ms. Marvel's career?

Fuck it! Revamp and push Tigra! She has the potential to be Marvel's hit heroine

Attached: Tigra sketch.jpg (609x900, 605K)

undeniably based

A Wanda solo movie would be absolute fucking trash with that horrific accent she uses. I can't imagine 1.5 hours of that garbage.

I second this

Right? What the fuck else is she doing? She's purrfect for a complete makeover both character wise and in design (Because people are iffy about bikinis these days). Perhaps even a power boost is in order

some one call me when TV stops their latest aneurysm and gets off Yea Forums. Disney are incredibly hands off with marvel. they decide what films they make and who is in them. We know this for two reasons. The first is that the lack of oversight and planning in the starwars movies means they aren't being master minded by the same strategists and the second is the blowout from AOU lead to fiege being put directly in charge. As long as they are making money and putting nothing offensive out there disney lets them do whatever they want.

But OP's talking about the comics.

I don’t think there is really a chance to do this.
Fur is very hard to make look good with practical effects, and animating all of her for a 2h movie will be exceptionally costly with that much hair animation.
And if you don't do fur then what else could you do with the character to not make her utterly unrecognisable?

user, it's OK to be gay, but not that gay.

>That's the reason people are pissed about her newest runs. No one even cares about trying to make her into the Carol she once was, they just want to make off-brand Superman fanfiction.
Except that's exactly how she is but people who don't fucking read her comics say she is, people like you who are stuck thinking Bendis' CW2 was the way she normally acted in her own book during that time. It's fucking insane is what it is, but it's a lost cause now.

Even if that were true, nobody cares enough about her overpushed, boring ass to go see if you are right.
Maybe they hit her right the fifth time around?
Who cares! Let's read shit we actually find interesting. Like Ironheart.

Oh you mean the girl everyone here hated because she was pushed hard by Bendis and supposedly replacing Iron Man? Are you fucking kidding me?

Elektra's movie is probably better than Captain Marvel.

So you haven't seen either then? Good to know.

See, this Carol was an actual character. She was even a character in the first Civil War where she went full pro-Tony fascist and supreme douchebag. But now?

>This isn't a thread about the movie

Aww boo hoo. Did somebody not get their tendies today?

Precisely that one. You reject her based on past experience.
Turns out if you write her as a flawed human being with clear issues and relatable values instead of a sanctimonious Sue who is right because the author wills it, she's actually interesting.

>You reject her based on past experience.
No because I actually liked Ironheart here EVEN when everyone hated her because I knew all she needed was a good writer behind her, and once she got that with Ewing and Zub, it's like all the bandwagoners suddenly decided to give a shit. So I think it's very ironic that you come here talking about how Carol is written as a "sanctimonious Sue" while not even reading her, and on top of that justifying it by saying "nobody cares enough to find out otherwise", when that's EXACTLY what people said and keep saying about Riri.
Do her the fuck outta here with this nonsense, the problem will always be shitty writers, and Bendis ruined Carol through and through (Aaron is on the way to do that too), but the Fazekas/Butters/Gage run was good, Stohl's had moments, and her time in Ultimates is possibly among the best things she has been and likely will be adapted at some point.

Attached: Screenshot from 2018-05-30 19-11-21.jpg (814x586, 59K)

Sorry, read you wrong, then.
Nobody really hated Riri as a person because everyone knew she was nothing but Bendis' mouthpiece.
And with zero other material it was more easy to look at a non-Bendis take as a separate entity.
With Carol there is now years of Marvel attempting to make a C-lister with little credibility or clout into a big deal.
That may not be entirely fair, but I can see how a lot of people have no longer any desire to really look at any Carol material to give it a chance.

That's a very ironic statement considering that she's the poster girl for lasting growth, change & development in the post-1990 continuity wasteland.
>She has no character
Oh nvm, it's a pure shitpost. Carry on not even trying, then.

Wait I tell a lie, didn't notice this absolute nugget:
>Marvel as a comic brand will likely be discontinued.
pfhahahahahaha that's heckin' hilarious
Marvel's comics have been an undead cancerous parody of themselves ever since the speculator market took off and status quo became the new godhead.
Luckily for you, the movie division is - if anything - the best bet of reviving the corpse & getting real-time moving again.
But hey if a character climbing up from C- to B-list is such an outrage a fullscale return to the original Marvel comics ethos would probably give you a rage-induced heart attack.

You know what yeah I'm baited and'll own it; Fuck You for pretending to even give a shit about "Marvel as a comic brand". You sound like exactly the kinda OCD wanker who kept it stuck as a shambling corpse. Get yer shit in order m8.

She Hulk and Ms Marvel Carol Danvers

Carol atm is an intolerant, irredeemable, inwardly and outwardly ugly pos. Im sure she was “tolerable” years ago but that time has pass.

Scarlet witch with Vision as the side protaganist
