In this political climate, changing an LGBT character into a straight one, no matter the context, would be seen as "problematic," or "gay erasure."

The best option would be to reveal that Iceman is bisexual, and cite this change as him still figuring things out. If you want, you can have Bobby date girls so he's effectively straight, except for a new guy love interest every 20 years.

Iceman's actually my second favorite among the originals. He used to be one of my favorites before Sina Grace stated writing him. I could tolerate the sudden sexuality change, but Sina Grace just turned Bobby into his self-insert.

To the point the story is starting to get in the way of the author's whim, so they give that character a new character titled series, to give them more freedom to make the font even bigger and make THAT the focus of every page.

He was the "safe" charachter to make gay. Few people really like Bobby, and it's typically not for his personality. It's almost always for his powers. He's never been especially well written, and the handful of times he has been have all been subsequently ignored.

Making him gay was just Bendis' typical way of hoping a diversity change would stick, take-off, and make him famous. Instead it just serves to show what kind of a pissant talent-less hack he is.
