Believe it or not there aren't nearly enough people who know about Crash so the risk of losing money would be even greater. Not saying Crash isn't popular just not popular enough.
I'm not OP, but I think that was a great idea from a practical effects and casting standpoint. You know how slim Eggman's arms and legs actually are? It'd be easier to achieve Eggman's silhouette by putting Jim inside an "egg" harness with his thin limbs sticking out of it. As for the character, well, he was fucking great as the Grinch and Count Olaf, so I think the good doctor is definitely in his wheelhouse.

Sonic is pretty much Crash Bandicoot in terms of origins.
Robotnik used to work for the government's tech department but was fired after he started testing with "animal batteries".
Pretty much: The film feels like a live action film version of Sonic 1, just set on Earth and more grounded. There are some parts like badniks show up, but it's similar to the realistic approach that the Super Mario Bros. movie did with the Bob-omb and Yoshi. Pretty much Sonic and Robotnik's final weapon are the "wildest" things in the film and the rest is fairly tame.

Sorry about that I was thinking about the old archie comics. Honestly it does look like they did base it off of these in some way, considering Robotnik is skinny in the film and the origin is pretty much this but without the speed experiment.
Sonic's powers is a similar case to how the Fantastic Four got their powers, he was running during the experiment and goes from a normal hedgehog and grows/evolves (in slow motion) into Sonic.
