Clarence had a lot of characters who looked weird & ugly on purpose. It had an anything-goes attitude to character design while SU is really self-conscious about its designs, expecting fans to obsess over them and presenting them accordingly.
Out of context that design seems like a really ballsy choice by the Clarence crew, but in context he was just another goofy kid.

Half of the characters on Clarence looked like they were assembled from different shows and Clarence was never shy about making fun of that sort of thing-- like the way that Gilben wasn't really animated to have any other poses in background shots. He was on Twelve Forever for a while (and it was confirmed he's doing a voice as well as writing) but apparently he got saddled with another mentally ill showrunner who abused their staff and the show's production was such a giant dumpster fire to the point that the company that was making it for Netflix (PUNY) no longer exists, so he as well as the vast majority of the people on the crew haven't been talking about it and sort of pretending it never happened. It's still supposed to come out this summer but there's zero chance of a second season.
He is on Victor and Valentino now but I don't think his episodes will start showing up until after the first batch
