Anons, I have to be freaking honest. That ending hit me hard. Like real hard. Hiccup taking hid hand off of Toothless as reference to when Hiccup put his hand to Toothless was the most heartbreaking. It felt like it marked the beginning and end of the era that humans got along with dragons. I'm glad they gave us their reunion at the end. Everything about it has hit me harder than any Pixar film has.

What I like is that the dragons leaving is a sum of reasons instead of one big reason like many seem to imply. It's not just the lightfury driving the alpha away, or just Grimmel being too close to killing Toothless, it's both, and also the Hidden world is paradise for dragons, and Berk is bound to be overcrowded if Hiccup wants it to be a haven for dragons.
I can also excuse the mere 2 min of runtime for the separation if I try hard, by blaming the lower budget. No way writers wouldn't want to acknowledge Valka and Cloudjumper's bond for no more than 2 seconds.
What I can't wrap my head around is why the fuck Toothless does not visit Berk any night in ten years. Hiccup not visiting, why not it can be hard by boat and he wants a clear cut to give Toothless a chance. However for Toothless, he's half a day of flight away. I get that an animal may not have a human logic of visiting a friend, but him and Hiccup have been together for 6 years and have lived really deep stuff, it can only be out of character for Toothless to instantly zap Hiccup out of his mind indefinitely.

I saw the movie last night and all I can think about is how the villain posthumously won in the end, and I'm not seeing anyone else discussing that.
His entire ideology boiled down was "humans and dragons living together threatens civilization as we know it; the creatures are far too dangerous." His point of view is no different than the people of Berk's was before the start of the first film, and is likely representative of most of mankind. Killing the nightfuries and by extension assisting in the deaths of the rest of the flock was really just a means to that end, one that Hiccup carries out willingly by sequestering the dragons away at the end of the world.
This wouldn't be too big of an issue if it was the only movie in the franchise, but up until now Hiccup has expressed a goal of progress through education and cooperation. People have no need to fear what they don't understand if they're taught that they have nothing to fear (represented at the end by Hiccup showing his children that the dragons aren't inherently dangerous.) But by letting them fade into myth, his entire goal is shattered.
If the dragons came from the pit, they had to have left at some point in the past for the plot of the first movie to take place. It seems feasible that generations will pass, dragons will eventually leave their hole in the ground as they must have done before, and the whole cycle will start all over again. A conclusion which is even reinforced in-movie, because if it hadn't been Hiccup that Toothless encountered on that boat in the conclusion, he'd have torn the family apart to protect his young.
The only conclusion that makes sense and would secure lasting peace was Hiccup's original goal, educating the world about dragons and incorperating them into global society.

I didn't notice lip syncing as an issue when I was a kid. Most of the time big-budget movies have their dubbing cast attempt to roughly match the lip movements, so it's close enough for me.
The one and only time when lip-syncing bothered me was a specific scene in Lion King; the part where one of the hyenas says the line

That line was accompanied by an extreme close-up of the lips, so I couldn't help but notice that the local translation/dub of that line didn't match with the lip movements.
But most of the time, I never really paid that much attention to this stuff.
I do like to observe how the dialogue is translated, though. Like for example, if a character uses an English idiom and it's just translated literally even though the result makes no sense in my language; that takes me out of the story and reminds me I'm watching a bad translation. Alternatively, if the work has untranslatable puns yet the translator gets creative and manages to make the scene work in a different language anyway, I respect that.
As for thread topic: still haven't seen the third movie. The first one was great, but the second one left me feeling kinda disappointed, so I haven't been in a rush to see the third one.

we don't really know the differences. The light furies seem a bit more skittish, and the light fury didn't demonstrate the destructive power of Toothless, but they may just be the individual. I'd say Night Furies are more dangerous since Grimmel enjoyed hunting more difficult prey, and didn't care about light furies.

There MUST be some sequel with them and Toothless' children. The director only said it was the end of Hiccup and Toothless' story. There should be no reason to stop Dreamworks from continuing. And story-wise, nothing stops dragons from visiting humans

I think it cut me deeper than any other movie. I didn't cry at the theater but I felt like crying the day after. I completely forgot about the iconic scene of Toothless putting his face to Hiccup's hand. But when Hiccup took his hand away from Toothless, it all rushed back to my memories. I want to hug Toothless goodbye to let go of my frustration to see him leave and it is still strongly on my mind 1 month after seeing the movie. I'm riding that vivid emotional high while it lasts before it fades and my lifes goes back to being bland again, waiting for the occasional movie/game that will try but never be able to touch the feeling of seeing Hiccup and Toothless flying happily together.
