Let's post and talk about comics. Post your buys and shelves.
My Waid DD finally arrived and a '71 Kirby folio's in the envelope.

i got these framed over the last few weeks
nice mercury sable keys
this is the only rolled version of this poster i have ever seen. every single other one i have seen is folded.
pretty
2004 mercury grand marquis actually. when i get outta my current financial troubles i might upgrade to this sweet 2012 model
Ah the luxury undercover cop's car.
you joke but my car insurance is cheaper and i don't get pulled over because i look like a cop driving an undercover car.
Just making conversation really. My town is awful with Tahoe driving cops and I really tried to get a decommissioned one but couldn't swing it.
i laugh at the suv cop cars. they handle like shit and can be out maneuvered easily.
I just like the look of them and all the space for comic books in the back.
i get out of my current financial troubles i'm going to make a custom stand up bin to hold my comics like i used to have.
Is BPRD vampire collected anywhere else?
I've been thinking that I should start collecting the Boom! Power Rangers comics, but I like to at least try to get the best option so I don't have to upgrade later.
Does Boom! ever do HC collections, or almost always stick to TPBs?

There are a couple of omnibi.
I ordered the second volume of Ice Cream Man two weeks ago and it hasn't arrived yet. So that's where my shelf is at right now.
Looks like my tax return is more than double of what I expected though so I'm probably going to buy some nice stuff when that arrives.
I don't think so.
>The 'Nam

Jesus, I'll just get the trades.
>Red Sonja by Mark Russel
>issue #2
Dynamite finally brought back her chainmail suit. Thank the lord.
One day I hope to collect them all
>impossible task
My recents
Recently got Kelley Jones Deadman, but it’s too big to fit vertically on the shelf
Anyone know if Arthur Adam’s shop is still running? I ordered a bunch of prints like 15 days ago, was charged, and haven’t heard a word from them since
Nice user
I hear everything from around issue 40 onward is extremely hard to find. But I just need #25,#36,#41,#49, #53 through #65,#67 & #70 through #84. Damnit marvel, how come you're not further along collecting these into tpbsor omnibuses?
meant for
Woah they still make Mercuries? Those are great cars but for some reason I thought they went out of business, haven’t seen any newer models lately. Anyways, have fun buyin ya a Mercury to cruise up and down the road
is watchmen the harry potter of comics?
how come all you autist boomers own that??
The marvel Omni-pantry.
OP here. It kind of is. There was another thread about it.
>Can be owned in one volume
>Entry level (Doesn't need knowledge of anything else to read, tho I'm a cape fan anyway)
>It's pretty good. I don't consider it the most enjoyable read in the genre (I tend to go back to Miller DD or Steranko Shield more often) but it's worth a re-read now and then.
>For like £15 meh, why not
>Jones Deadman
Nice, I have that too. Artist Editions are the shit but hard to store
I wish you the best of luck my dude. I've been collecting the B&W magazine reprints recently (not big on the colours) but they only go up to #20 of the singles. Seriously doubt Marvel will EVER collect it, just no market for it.
I know a few people have got the run custom bound, pic related
>I know a few people have got the run custom bound, pic related
That looks nice
I can get the Year 2 Omni in my town for 60 Eurobucks. Is it worth it?
I have $5 credit from Amazon because prime was late with something so help me find a used book thats like 1 with 3.99 shipping
>WATCHMEN is just like HP
>I swear guise
Dude, near everyone owns Watchmen who's into comics. Even people who aren't necessarily have it, due to it being approachable. It's not the same kind of mass market kid lit as HP, but it's *way* more ubiquitous than Moore fans pretend it is, to the tune of millions of units sold.
Liking or owning it isn't some elite club. It's one of the most basic "Recommended comics" searches out there. And yes, I say that as someone who got it for £15 in a comic/toy store
Would it be foolish to get the softcover Johns Green Lantern at this point
The omnis are just too expensive for me to blow that kind of money in one go
That said, it's an extremely good comic, and deserves to be owned by people. The original question by that user was essentially "Is Watchmen a widely owned comic like HP books are widely owned?". The answer's yes. I gave some reasons why imo. This isn't a Watchmen thread tho, it's a shelf one so post em.
Meant for
Evening, boys. Good to see ya.
Got this the other day. 70 bucks. It was listed "like new," but I wouldn't call that exactly accurate. Unfortunately that was more than likely due to FUCKING Amazon. It was packed with two packing bubbles just laid on top, and the dust jacket was hanging off the bottom of the book, and was clearly crushed a little by the book moving around the box.
Still a steal for $70. Got the first Absolute Sandman coming tomorrow. It might have shown today but it went through my post office and then to another like 40 minutes away for some reason.
Glad to see the name stuck!
>Glad to see the name stuck!
Trying to find the right bookcase for around ~500 that holds a lot of weight for omnibuses has been a real bitch my man. If anyone has any tips on that I’d appreciate it.
Diversified Woodcrafts DIV-447-3616
Oak Storage Bookcase - 36' 48, & 72" Height
Chemical resistant finish so it doesn't react chemically with anything put on it.
Oak construction for durability and lasting beauty
if you shop around you can find all the models for less than 500 bucks with shipping.
they are lugging heavy though. the 72 inch model weighs 310 lbs and i think it's total weight limit is like 900 lbs. these are what i'm getting when i get a job.
How's the spine on it? Is it a new edition? Is it better than to get the 3 trades? Any answers will be greatly apreciated.

Another Doom Patrol omni, collecting the Kupperberg run and other stuff between Drake and Morrison. This is why we put up with all these stupid shows that bring Yea Forums here, folks. In the end we get books out of them.
like i tell people we put up with shitty movies like green lantern because we get good march from them. i mean i'm pretty sure the green lantern movie was the first time Rot Lop Fan got an action figure.
she's been back in her classic outfit for a while user. In fact all the Dynamite characters are back to the classic outfits, that dumb shit only lasted about 2 years.
>How's the spine on it?
Seems good to me. I'm about 200 pages in or so. It seems a little tight, but it about lays flat in the middle.
>Is it a new edition?
I'm not sure how to answer that. I don't think so.
>Is it better than to get the 3 trades?
With the price hike, no. It'll also never be as convenient to read, but I like hardcovers. You can get the thick trades for around $60 with IST, and the omni is trending around $120 now I think.
Nice.
Thanks for the answers!
I'm not sure how to answer that. I don't think so.
I should've asked, "what edition is it?" instead, just looking at the legal page should answer that.
Any good recommended runs?
what I read of Simone's was good, just avoide Bennett's and Amy Chu's for sure. But really...I think the best is just start reading with Russell's book, it's good so far
Funkos are pretty damn ugly, but I just found out that there's a glow in the dark Kyle Rayner/White Lantern one and I think I'm going to buy it anyway.
rad.
Nothing new yet. I have a decent amount coming though. Silver Surfer Freedom, SS Thanos Quest, SS Rebirth of Thanos, SS The Infinity Gauntlet, Promethea Deluxe HC 1, all 6 books of Preacher (book 1 signed by Steve Dillon), and The Infinity Gauntlet Deluxe
If you check IST it looks like they must have reprinted it. New copies are back to only $87, which is great. The three trades are probably more comfortable to read but are they the larger omnibus pages? I have the omnibus already and you can only read it in certain positions but I didn't have a problem with the size. And the omni looks better on a shelf.
tfw have to wait until October for the Fantagraphics Life & Times of Scrooge McDuck set
I was worried they pushed vol 1 back again, but now I know to wait for the boxset. Thanks user
So I have been waiting for booksetc. to get the Sandman Slipcase back in stock again since January and it's still not there yet. Any UK anons have experience with their out of stock stuff? Is it possible for the set to be in stock again sometime in the future or is all hope lost? I'm getting more and more pissed ebery month and I'm on the verge of just saying fuck it and spending more money on the Absolutes but those things are not handy at all, fuck me
Yeah the box set coming with vol 2, figured I'll wait for both to get the set instead of as they come out.
The Mines Of King Solomon coming out on May 14 though which is nice.
How long before this gets cancelled like Pollack DP?
Son of a bitch I've waited enough why did you TELL ME THIS
Maybe. Do you mean the old trades, or the upcoming "GL by Johns" books?
One of the rumors around the trade department restructuring was that they are being told to make fewer collections, and that means they won't be doubling up in some things in different formats.
Meaning, an omnibus might not be cut into trades anymore.
We've already seen this with the halting of those softcover gold/silver/bronze collections that broke apart the thick omnibuses. Some, like Silver Age Adam Strange and Bronze Swampy vol 2 were cancelled because preorders were low though.
Johns is still a name that sells, but AT&T might rather you shell out for the omnis instead of six or seven trades.
>They canceled the softcover versions of the gold/silver/bronze collections
Those. Fucking. Cunts. I was waiting for Green Arrow. I have the majority of Supes and Batman.
REEEEEEEEEEEE
It does on the other hand seem like they're going to focus more on printing "safe" books that they know will sell well, which should include Johns' GL.
>Bronze Swampy vol 2 were cancelled
JUST
fuuuuuuuuuuuckkkkkkkkk
>the upcoming "GL by Johns" books?
These
Vol. 2 is showing up for preorder and it only appeared after all these cancellation shenanigans started which is what gives me hope.
All the comments on RCO say it's bad to meh and I don't really understand why.
cause they're RCO comments
RCO comments are people who give so few fucks they dont even pirate properly, read it in browser like heathens, will never spend a dollar on actual comic books in their life, and may or may not even read it all in the first fucking place.
Bump
>pre-ordered vampirella box set
>finally set to come on Monday
I can't wait. I need to have that box.
good stuff user
who has the rights to Jonny Quest comics and why haven't they been reprinted yet?
Has to be Warner Bros via Turner, and thus, DC.
Lack of interest, I would assume, I don't know how well Future Quest did.
Well Johnny Quest is Hannah Barbera so DC has it.
Is that Iron Maiden thing an artbook or a comic? Because honestly both sound great.
Had a gift card, so I got the 2 on the left for free.
I made an order, Yea Forums.
There's a reprint coming out with some added material I think.
Fury is GOAT. Fucking phenomenal. Pavlov's art is so great
I decided just now to start a Bluray/DVD collection. What's some Yea Forums stuff I want on that kind of shelf?
Anyone?
MAX Fury! Good job mate! I don't think Ennis has done a better book.
that's a worst case scenario, dammit
I had some issues of the Comico series as a kid and they were great
There's not much Marvel I care about, but I need to get Fury and Punisher MAX.
Actually the first Marvel books I ever bought.
The three paperbacks just read so nicely though. I'm really not huge on Omnibuses as a practical way to read something, especially for the first time.
Does anyone know what issues The Abosloute Sandman Vol.3 covers and how that's broken down in the trades?
I think the Fury Max trilogy sucks, but MWGB's above Ennis' usual tripe. I'm sticking to non-Ennis Fury
>Ennis' usual tripe
Can you imagine being such a stick in the mud you can't have fun with some Ennis goofiness?
It’s just textbook contrarianism, you can tell because they never go into detail about why the popular thing is bad.
>contrarianism
retard detected
I read it in a bookstore. It's just Ennisshit with an OOC Fury coat of paint. Sorry, sweaty
>Ennisshit
what deep critiques you have there, but to be fair you have to have to have an IQ over 80 to understand it
Deeper than any of Ennis' Zucker-Abram-Zucker "critiques"
Also
>War bad
There you go. That's all of Fury Max
user why are you such a contrarian?

DC's winter catalogue is kind of out, and it's lackluster.

Holy kek
>With a new HBO Watchmen series coming soon, DC collects some of the best stories starring the heroes that inspired the cast of the original WATCHMEN comic series.
>At the height of comics' 1960s Silver Age, artist Steve Ditko was winning praise for his spectacular work on Marvel's Amazing Spider-Man and Dr. Strange. At the same time, Ditko was also creating powerful tales of other heroes: Charlton Comics' Blue Beetle, Captain Atom and the Question. Now, for the first time, DC collects stories starring these enigmatic heroes, plus the Peacemaker and others -- the heroes that provided the inspiration for WATCHMEN team members Night Owl, Doctor Manhattan, Rorschach, the Comedian and more. This title includes CAPTAIN ATOM (1966) #83-86, BLUE BEETLE (1967) #1-6, MYSTERIOUS SUSPENSE #1, CHARLTON PREMIERE #3, THE CHARLTON BULLSEYE (1975) #1, #5, THE CHARLTON BULLSEYE (1981) #1, AMERICOMICS #3 and AMERICOMICS SPECIAL #1.
Oh yeah, that one. It's impressive how much of a cash grab they can make out of it.
Yo, holy shit. Another example of Yea Forums being useful for encouraging classic reprints. Based DC. I just wish the Blue Beetle and Question names were more prominent than the Watchmen logo
>Road to Watchmen
How the fuck is that possible? Watchmen is standalone, wtf?
Not really surprising they made a fucking toaster with Rorschach's face on it when the movie came out. I anticipate a similar deluge of tacky, franchise-raping merch in the wake of this show
This is such a grift. That's incredible.
Is there a Marvel version of this somewhere?
There's too many comics I want

I don't know what the rest of the volumes are because it is supposed to be 14 volumes.
Beginning my journey into Invincible and indulging my nostalgia with another volume of X-Treme X-Men.
X-Treme X-Men was no where near peak Claremont, and some of the stories were pretty bad. But the ones that were good I enjoyed a lot, and the Kitty story was actually great.
Are vols 2 and 3 of Perez Wonder Woman worth purchasing?
Long shot but, anyone know where to find instocktrades discount codes?
The only time I've ever seen discount codes for IST is when I've purchased a lot of stuff. They usually just add it to your account and it's never anything that great; like, 2% to 3% off.
DREDD
Subscribe to their mailing list
Not feeling that one at all.
The only one's I have seen are emails that include codes like "dccomics", "darkhorse" or something like that that give 2% discounts on their books. Very minor sales compared to buying during a book's first release when it is 50% off instead of 42%.
Yes
I had a dream DC started doing a print on demand program and I bought Peter David/Gary Frank's Supergirl run for $50 for 2 books.
If only. Comixology Unl isn't even in the UK :(
I keep saying POD is the future for comic collecting. Imagine being able to just buy things you wanted, with a little uncharge. DC wouldn't have to worry about guessing demand because it would just be working tandem with their digitization efforts for places like CMX.
But what if normies don't want thousand of issues of comics and all the time, wages and labour go to waste?
Amazon and a few other places already do POD for self published novels. It wouldn't be that hard move into TPBs working with the bigger publishers. You could even make it a prime exclusive service.
Warner has its own book division and publishing division. Why DC doesn't work with them at all is beyond me.
the current discount code is RAWHIDE that gives an extra 3% off. ends sunday
What's everyone reading?
Im reading the first omni for Dark Horses' Conan and its fantastic. Hoping it continues to be great after Busiek leaves.
I had a dream that DC printed something people wanted for a change.
Runaways omni, I've read it all before but I wanted to upgrade from trades to the omni. Not regretting it, though it feels like one of those omnis you could kill a man with.
I'm in the middle of early spring unpacking/cleaning/organizing before I get to my backlog.
I got this and Immortal Iron Fist: The Complete Collection Volume 1 to read once I'm done though since I got them as a gift a while back but never got around to reading them.
I just finished the Dragon Age omnibus. Still no clue why it's called an omni when it's soft cover and 18 issues long, but it was nice to get back into that universe for a little while.
I'm in the middle of Sandman and The name of the rose, but paused all of the comic atm reading got a little burnout.
Slowly making some progress on some thickies. I'm actually almost done with Autumnlands, I realize I forgot to update it yesterday. I think I left work with an issue to go.
>Im reading the first omni for Dark Horses' Conan and its fantastic
I'd really like to read that, but the cost is keeping me away. I'll probably have to resort to reading it digitally. I haven't read Busiek and that's why I picked Autumnlands up from the library when I saw it. Benjamin Dewey's art was an unexpected plus.
OP here. Just finished reading Colan DD (or the stuff in DD EC 2, and about to start Waid DD. Been waiting to have Waid's for years, so I'm hyped.
I got a little burned out during Colan's tho desu, but his art was consistently a highlight. The shift to larger panels around issue... 36 or 37 was weird, but iirc that's because of art paper size changes. That said, problems The Matt-Foggy-Karen love triangle drags for 40 issues, it feels like they didn't know what they wanted to do with Mike, DD's rogues gallery has some better elements, but a decent amount were lame.
Still a fun read as an example of early, light-hearted DD without some of the trappings of the later runs, but it doesn't hold up as well as Kirby FF (haven't read my Thor yet), or Ditko Spidey etc
The costs for the omnis are really cheap for those omnis last I checked. Still bunmed ill never be able to get the colossal conan myself though
Am I being retarded?
Obviously Amazon isn't a great place for pricing, but eBay seems pretty consistent. That used price for vol. 2 is absolutely fair, though.
Amazon is super weird about secondary market stuff, you always need to check it against ebay. It's not uncommon to see $20-50 items on ebay being listed for hundreds on amazon minimum.
I said eBay was consistent, but it's actually worse. And these are the only results I get.
Unlucky, looks the same at B&N and Abebooks.
Did well on an exam so I got a little splurge. Still waiting for Astonishing Ant-Man vol 3.
Shit
Holy shit that shot up. My bad.
I think marvel is re-releasing those as epic collections? Or am I wrong there too ml
Finished Grant Morrison's Animal Man and started JMS's Spider-Man. I loved the Spider-Man tv series from the 90's, but could never get into the comics.
Where's you get this?
Should I pick up the Mortal Kombat X trades or New Super-Man? I was kind of hoping Super-Man would get a complete collection.
Love me some Animal Man
none
What's wrong with Super-Man?
>I think marvel is re-releasing those as epic collections
My soul aches thinking about the ugly branding they use for those. In any case I hope they do.
Are Quad Graphics still doing glossy paper? I have a bunch of Epics, and I prefer the old style. The glossy isn't as heinous as other, bad reprints, but it's not quite as nice
Nothing but I honestly belive it's not worth having. The series was fun tho. Bat-fat based
3rd party on Amazon, they even packaged it nice enough to keep the corners nice.
The Goon library #2. I want some more wacky stuff. Suggestions for a fan of Madman, Mignola stuff, Dial H, Doom Patrol ?
It's a comic.
That is the reprint. It has content from one of the Hellboy winter specials
>Cancelled Bronze Swamp Thing
Those fucks.
Shaolin Cowboy/Big Guy and Rusty, Chew, Godland, Manhattan Projects
Web of Spider-Man and Spectacular spider-man in chronological order, will add ASM to the mix when the macfarlane run starts
was....anyone asking for this? is anyone pumped for this insane collection of mostly bullshit?
holy shit is that v1 omni super valuable for some reason? i figured theyd have made more than enough to go around.
What is the IST of DVDs & Blu Rays?
It's pretty weird for a book only three years old.
Fuckin'.
if they collect the whole short run of it in one book it'd be fun to have. i forget how many issues of it there were... 18?
Reading Muties, a forgotten six issue series of standalone stories featuring different undiscovered mutants, generally in war-torn, troubled or poverty-stricken areas across the globe.
It's pretty bleak stuff at times, two of the three I've read end with the starring mutant dying.
whats the creative team?
Karl Bollers (who's currrently senior editor at Valiant) writes it, the rest of the team changes every issue to suit the setting and tone of it. The most known of the artists would be Charlie Adlard and Dean Haspiel, the rest I wasn't familiar with at all
Just finished reading Shame again, 3rd time in 2 years, I love that book so much. Storytime on /aco/ if anyone is interesting
Also started reading Kelly Thompson's Jessica Jones and it made me go back and read through Bendis' post Secret Wars run. It's got some of his signature shit but I was able to get past it, last time I tried to read it I got pissed off cause I was too used to Alias being a MAX title and the censoring pissed me off. But after reading Kelly Thompson's stuff I was able to approach it without Alias overshadowing everything. So I've been liking both their runs.
>Post your buys
Do rentals count?
How are the plastic man ones?
Yes. Anything goes, but my thread's been fuckin dead. :(
Trying to have something fun while I finish a college report. Only 200 words/1000 left
>How are the plastic man ones?
I've read them before, and I'll read them again and again. Kyle Baker did a damn good job.
cool, what is Too Much Coffee? cause I'm close to shaking...need food to counteract the caffeine now
>that cover
>/aco/
You've got my attention
Damn, I want those Plastic Man books.
Baker Plas
Damn, I'm always jealous when a library has hard-to-get comics. My local has the Essential Tales of the Zombie vol.1...
>cool, what is Too Much Coffee?
I'll let Wikipedia do the talking for me.
ok, that sounds great. Probably not something I would buy but that's a library get for sure
My collection grows slowly
Most recent addition is the Major Bummer omni.
Been doing a lot of cleaning and rearranging today. Bought a new cube cause my /shelf/ was full (got a steal of a deal and got this 2x4 cube shelf and a 5 shelf dolly wire rack for $55). Tomorrow my project is to straighten out my normal /shelf/ and properly file away my floppies
Cube shelves are patrician.
Kallax master race.

Is it worth it to start with the first Hulk Epic Collection?
All it has is the first six issue series and then a bunch of random appearances I've already read in other Epics. His real series doesn't start until book 2.
i think you just answered your own question.
if its not something you care to read or own specifically, don't be a slave to volume numbers.
taking the time to look at exactly whats collected in tpbs is worth it because sometimes you realise you already have the majority of some collections already.
I haven't read the start though so I'm wondering if those first six issues matter or are worth reading.
Eh, check it out pirated and see wtf is up.. might not be a big deal, epic collections are a good value but still pricey for only wanting one storyarc
Manhattan Projects is pure unfiltered kino
Would the reader be willing to directly pay for any royalty fees that reprinting the issues might have?
...can you explain what you just said? I still have never seen anyone able to define "kino" what is kino in its raw state before the filtering process?
IIRC most royalty contracts are garbage so that'd be a pretty small fee all things considered.
Cool stuff. You're on a good track
kino is something really stupid that you can find entertaining on account of how stupid it is. basically "so bad it's good".
Alternatively, some newfags just use it when they mean to say something is "great"
Kino means cinema in German. People use the term to give something high valued praise in the art world.
Another Major Bummer fan, nice.
Oh yeah, finally took a photo of this. A previous owner got the oversized Waid DD vol 4 signed. Thanks to him. I always wanted something signed!
sigh mechagodzilla
and the rest
Liked the storytime of vol 1 and found the whole run used for $47.
i ordered a couple new 52 captain atom trades. did i do good, /shelf/?
also; any recs for obscure and/or charlton characters?
yes, New52 Captain Atom was good
i think its a omnibus of charlton/dc superheroes who inspired the minutemen in watchmen
Don’t be ashamed of new 52. Yea Forums only pretends to hate it because they’re characterfags/status quofags who wouldn’t know a good comic if it slapped them on the forehead
I heard good things about it, haven't had the chance to read it myself.
New 52 had some gems, yeah, they just weren't the books DC was pushing. Kind of a shame they're even more overlooked now.
geoff johns new 52 justice league run was perfectly fine although darkseid war and trinity war were either lackluster or a convoluted mess
ah, well that definitely clears it up....
I enjoyed darkseid war for what it was, A big dumb popcorn comic. It also has some pretty awesome moments such as Batman in the Mobius chair, and Luthor rising from the dregs of armaghetto to the throne of apokalips. I don’t see why it’s lesser than SCW, blackest night, or forever evil which Yea Forums has no problem with
Throne of Atlantis was the only all right part from what I remember. The first arc sucked, the second arc with the dude becoming a villain was pretty lackluster too. Pretty sure the meme about them being written by Lee not Johns doesn't work either because we've all seen Johns shit up a number of impossible to fuck up arcs since.
Darkseid war was fine but I was a bit underwhelmed by it. Hopefully Geoff John's wont fuck up doomsday clock. Im on issue 2 and it seems fine so far. I wanna see captain atom fight Dr
Manhattan
>I'm on issue 2
>that spoiler text
You have no idea how badly I want you to be joking.
Why
Royalty fees usually don't amount to much, especially in the realm of comic books. And consumers are already paying the royalty fee anyway, it's in the cost of the book. So, if even someone like Chuck Dixon, for example, only got a 1% or 2% royalty on something like... Nightwing Vol. 1, for example, he'd need to move 30,000 trades at $20 per pop just to get $12,000. Keep in mind, as well, that in 2018, The new Infinity Gauntlet trade only moved 40,458 copies via comic book shops (could be more with book stores), and had an Avengers movie to back it. Another issue with royalties is that sometimes, for example, your book has to reach a certain sales number before royalties are ever dispersed (ie. Nightwing Vol. 1 could have to shift 50,000 copies before DC ever disperses a cent to Dixon and McDaniel). DC also gets to take people like Diamond out of the equation; they print, package, and ship to the customer and only have to deal with the customer.
>"only" about $210 for vol 1-10 of the Don Rosa library series
The temptation is strong. Fantagraphics does really good quality
That's not bad per book, but if you're buying as a lot that'll hurt.
They're averaging a little over $20 per book on amazon so about 30% below cover. I can see them going up in price in the near future so I might just pull the trigger now so I'm not stuck missing one that shot up to $60-80.
I, and my poor wife, are all too familiar with that feel. Good luck in your decision.
get an amazon card?
They're good books. They have Don Rosa commentary for every story.
Are any don rosa books readable if you don't really know anything about duck comics?
yes.
Which ones
I have one! I've been afraid to order books from them though. They keep coming roughed up. I had to return the last one.
Yeah that happens a lot but they're good about returns. Sometimes they'll even let you keep the book.
That's cool, but that book wasn't worth keeping unfortunately.
Those points add up fast so I hate that I'm afraid to buy books from them.
Yeah it's a bit of a gamble but for me it seems to work out if I order a bunch of stuff at once so they're more likely to use correct sized boxes.
Goddamn I want that Freak Bros Omni.
You've got a point. I've ordered some omnis and they've been iffy, but the time I bought three books together they were flawless.
Yeah amazon goes by how the box fits in the truck, not how well the box fits the product. So your chances improve a lot if you're getting multiple books in an order.
I really gotta get around to getting into The Goon
You should. It's really good. Also, it's starting back up.
I don't know what Oiroe is but that's a really pretty spine.
The camera flash made the C's look like O's. Its really Circe. Haven't read it yet, just picked it up because it was on 75% off sale.
.
Oh, that sounds like it could be interesting.
oh, Circe by Madeline Miller is something I mean to read, it came up on a podcast recently. It's about reimagining The Odyssey from her perspective. So you see her role and motivations and she becomes the hero of her story. Got really great reviews.
Iron Giant
Secret of NIMH
if you buy a shit load of stuff they use correct sized boxes. i worked at one the facilities and this is in fact completely true. it's why i recommended the amazon card, buying in large lots will get your stuff treated better.
a single item doesn't get focused on, multiple items especially large ones and they take the time to pack it better.
I probably should get the amazon card but I tend to buy stuff in random spurts and like having a bunch of cards.
I'm probably going to hold off some months until I buy more books so maybe I'll just compile a list then get it all at once with the amazon card.
>Doom Patrol: The Silver Age Vol. 2
>Titans Book Two: Deathtrap
>DC Meets Hanna Barbera Vol. 3
have had their status changed to "cancelled" on the edelweiss.
DP might be from either poor preorders, or them having to cut back on releases. Those Doom Patrol issues are in the Silver Age omni they put out a year ago.
The HB cancellation could be:
>The singles barely sold at all so they aren't collecting it now
>There was a rumor that a WB executive really didn't like what DC was doing with the HB characters and killed the line
>>DC Meets Hanna Barbera Vol. 3
Fuckin kill me
>they keep canceling silver and bronze age stuff
Unfortunate, these are the only things from Marvel and DC I pay actual real money for most of the time. I don't think I've bought a single thing from either since Forever Evil.
Immortal Hulk is pretty good.
just remember to check the deal they offer whn you do it. i got 25 dollars off my 100 dollar purchase for and getting the card approved
I'm not saying there's been nothing good new but nothing I really want to spend my money on when there's so many non-big 2 things I could spend my money on instead.
So those square shelves, can you stack them or does that look tacky?
No.
Do people here have pull lists too? I don't care for floppies a ton but I like to support some smaller books at times
>Runaways
>Volition
>The Seeds
>Lady Mechanika
>Relay
>Murder Falcon
>Monstress
>Seven to Eternity
>The Black Monday Murders
>Infinite Dark
>Self/Made
I need to drop a few and not add anymore
I can't buy floppies here, but I try to support Wrong Earth by buying it digitally.
I won't pay for 26 pages filled with ads magazines so I keep up with trades.
>bought cel for a lot of money
>found out it was returned to sender because I wasn't there to sign for it
>Don't really want it that much
Does this mean I can get a refund?
I was going to start a pull list at a store that opened up one town over but my friends don't ask me to come with them anymore and it's too far to drive alone just for that.
I definitely still have a pull but part of me is debating dropping floppies all together simply for the sake of storage.
i have a small pull list and suggest you follow alterna press newsprint comics. they are cheap and not cape books. mostly sci fi fantasy like stuff.
That depends on where you bought it from.
ebay
What was it a cel of?
You'll have to contact the seller.
kiki
midtown comics.com will mail your pull list to your house.
I've stopped caring for floppies (at least ones that are destined for trade collections anyway), so my list is down to;
>Redlands
>X-Force
>Creature of the Knight
I won't be adding anymore once those are finished, I'm done with the format for the immediate future.
I just barely made little enough money this year that I don't have to pay taxes
God I'm so happy
The IKEA Kallax/Walmart and/or whomever ripoffs? I think it would look goofy since the outer pieces are pretty thick. The Kallax come in up to 5x5 I think if you have an IKEA in the area.
I'm currently buying:
The Green Lantern
Die
Black Hammer and now BH '45
Wyrd
Beneath The Dark Crystal Dave Petersen variants (mostly for the property and the great artist, I really need to actually read it)
And anything Beasts of Burden as they come. The second mini is coming soon.
I plan on getting Murder Falcon's trade after reading the first issue the other day. Seemed really fun. I also want that Bolt Thrower variant, that cover is sweet. I've been meaning to try Monstress, too, and I see they're doing a bigger hardcover in a few months.
I don't have any room but i still occasionally buy books and these threads make me so jealous. one day imma marie kondo my shit and it'll look great
Green Lantern
DIE
Wicked/Divine
Anything by Mark Russell
Heroes in Crisis
I'm pretty sure you will either
>have to contact the seller and hope that they are nice enough to not charge you for another delivery
>pay for a second delivery
Ebay contracts are legally binding so unless the seller is alright with it (which they are usually not), you don't get a refund
ebay and paypal always side with the buyer
Pretty much yeah, just contact the seller and be honest. 99% of the time just issuing a refund is the much better choice than dealing with the hassle, plus they'll likely just be thankful it's as simple as you changed your mind and not that you're trying to scam them and get the item for free.
>marie kondo
What is this
A woman who sparks joy in my heart.
She's a Japanese woman who's gotten famous for her book about her organization methods and slowly gained more popularity over the years, her book was also made into a manga and most recently she got the biggest surge of popularity in the west with a Netflix series.
A netflix series about organizing books?
Organizing in general but yes, her main thing is to get rid of unnecessary things that don't "spark joy"
She also teaches you how to fold clothes good
I don't have a conventional pull list but these are the series I follow in trades:
Birthright
Black Hammer
Black Magick
Black Monday Murders
Clean Room (I still believe it will come back)
Death or Glory
East of West
Gideon Falls
Goddamned (It's coming back)
Ice Cream Man
Kaijumax
Monstress (reluctantly)
Outcast
Paper Girls
Redneck
Seven to Eternity (reluctantly)
Snotgirl
Southern Bastards
On the fence about whether I'm gonna get Farmhand Vol. 2. Ordered Weatherman Vol. 1 this weekend so we'll see how that goes.
>Ordered Weatherman Vol. 1 this weekend so we'll see how that goes.
I'm a wimp, so I dropped that after issue one
Spoiler for issue one
it ends with a dog getting headshot and its brains everywhere
Urgh I hope it's not edgy
It was kind of pricier than I'm used to, I miss Image's renaissance days when they made the first trade cheaper than usual as an entry point, they made it so easy to just blind buy a Vol. 1 to see if you'd like it. But now it's like actually buying a real trade. I guess with the paper shortage they do what they can.
>her main thing is to get rid of unnecessary things that don't "spark joy"
That makes no sense to me, but okay I guess.
It’s just weird advice because it’s so subjective. Theoretically one book could bring you as much joy as a room full of them. Or a houseful. The advice just boils down to “only have things you like”. It’s so obvious it’s kind of pointless
How much would it cost to buy all the Mignola collections up until current? Ballpark obviously
Her method revolves around picking up an object and sort of feeling if it makes you feel good or is useful to you. It's basically about picking out items that add a net positive to your life, rather than just having stuff because you want to have stuff. It's very shinto and kind of mumbo jumbo, but it works surprisingly well in some cases.
A lot of it revolves around trying to get rid of all outside influences and only focusing on what makes you happy or aids you in your life. A lot of the time people, especially young people, buy things to fit in with a certain group or because they want to seem to be something they're not, but people rarely manage to do what they've set out to do with that stuff and over time it becomes junk. So it can be a good exercise to take a look at all that junk and decide if it's really something that you like, or if it's something you want to/think you should like.
(I know people can change and yadda yadda, but people often don't.)
if they are in print and sold? bout 400 -500 instocktrades prices at one time
There are so many people who actually need to be told this. It's not that it's some divine wisdom, it's that too many people just don't accept it.
This is especially evident if you look at any community that talks about her methods. They just don't fucking get it. "What if I like this old pair of pants? They're really comfortable, and I wear them a lot." Then you fucking keep it, you idiot. But they actually ask this shit.
Well honestly I understand a bit of their confusion because it’s too obvious, maybe it’s an American thing why I don’t get it because we find joy in the material and find the necessities mundane. And in that case why would I own anything at all unless it brought me pleasure, so what’s the point of the advice. Or maybe I’m already a tidy person so the advice seems redundant to me. I do not know.
>why would I own anything at all unless it brought me pleasure
>Or maybe I’m already a tidy person
You've answered you're own question. It's easy for most people to just amass a bunch of shit and then never think about it again. It's slightly introspective.
some people feel more secure psychologically having things in thier home. i have a huge collection and it makes me feel less shitty to look around and see the things i have collected.
everyone else got to go on dates and have lives. i got to lay in a bed and suffocate to death as i died from a terminal illness. looking around my home seeing expensive chef quality appliances and utensils and framed comic and movie posters and my chogs and the fact my whole house looks like super villain lair makes you feel a tinge less like your entire life was wasted because your whore mother thought she was too good to work.
I know I definitely have tons of crap I don't care about anymore but lack the motivation to get rid of.
meh, I'm a horder and I know it, every time I do a full cleaning I try to throw out a few things, but I'm not going to spend time researching this woman to tell me how to throw things away.
Not much og a big haul, though the tomes quite good.
>but I'm not going to spend time researching this woman to tell me how to throw things away
Then you don't need her help. Not everything is for everyone.
Fuck you I want my Berserk NOW
Berserk is a shitty comic desu, be glad you don't own it
Yea I knew it was going to be a larger format, didn't realize it's almost as big as the BPRD omnis
t. assmas tank berserk fan
By slight. The book however makes the artwork superb ten fold contrary to the tankobon versions DH have sold for years.
They've done a good job showing Viz how to collect a 3-in-1 though. Wish they'd done HC stiched to Vagabond.
Yeah I knew it was a guaranteed purchase, I'm just waiting for it to show up on IST. Did some stores break street date? Amazon says it's release date is 3/26
Dark Horse's release date was 2/27. Amazon always gets stuff later. IST supposedly never made it available despite their date also listing 2/27.
I'd assume comic shops that sell manga got it in.
death to all berserk fans
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
How?
Amazon's release dates either are too late or too early, as my comic purchase at the LCS have attested.
Last october, an anthology book by a late cheft was dropped 2 weeks prior to Amazon, and a bunch of Junji Ito books were croppin' up a whole month or a week after.
Every since I bought my car my collection has stopped dead, but I still gonna update my Jodorowsky collection by April .
Or they can just decide that it takes them 20 fucking days to ship a book to you. By horse carriage, presumably.
bump for any more recs please
white goon editions wtf? do i have second printings?
I buy £20-30 books with low shipping. Sorry man. I have no clue what to rec for $1
Hey guys I purchase single issues weekly. Spend like ~35 bucks every Wednesday.
What do y'all think?
If it's within your budget, that's not a bad thing
Personally I don't have time for singles.
Fine, I didn't want to read fucking Thor anyway. Your loss, Marvel.
OP here. I tracked that shit down on eBay and had to get it for like £60. It hurt my wallet, but I'm glad to have it, even if it'll take a while to get to.
That said, fucking Christ, their inability to keep these in print baffles me. The first Silver Surfer and FF ECs are OOP. I got them while they were in print. There is *no* good reason for it
So I just joined a comic group on Facebook and one guy is selling his Sandman collection for 260€. Is that a reasonable price for these? I didn't even know the old issues were collected in hardcovers but apparently, they exist
One guy pointed out that for 260€, you can easily get the first four Absolutes but I wonder how the old HCs hold up. Anyone here own these?
Almost everyone owns Sandman
you guys continually forget how things are printed. They have print RUNS or tens of thousands and only big sellers are kept in cycle so they can be reprinted for another cycle. They aren't going to keep it 'in print' if their first print run took a long time to liquidate fully.
I thing they just have the dust covers off them
I finally bit the bullet and purged my floppy collection to sell off what I dont absolutely want to keep and/or are the only ways to still read them. Ended up purging out close to 500 books. Bitter sweet. Money should be nice once they sell
That's completely fair and I can understand it from a business sense, but come on, man. FF volume 1's one they're letting slip? It's great shit that more people should read :(
if the book started selling well and then for the last year it barely sold, they would take that as a sign that enough have sold and a reprint would mean they would have to pay for storage. Someone mentioned POD earlier but that would drastically increase the costs (and probably increase odds of errors a lot). It sucks, but some thing like FF VOL 1 will get collected again, just maybe in a different format.
how much did you sell them for? Did you take a big loss?
I know that but are the old HCs worth the 260€ price tag? those are the ones with the original colouring, aren't they? the newer paperbacks and Absolutes have recolours
POD'd be great, but yeah, it'd be weird to work out. They'd also probably have to have several types of paper ready for people who want glossy or newspaper type etc. At that point, it'd be more like custom printing/binding. That could work as a service but fuck it'd be pricey
Hell yeah boy
Im in the process of selling them. Ill probably do okay given ive gotten things signed but there's definitely series that I gave up on after like 3 issues that ill take a hit on
oh, I thought you were selling in bulk. Most of the time when I see people selling that much they just sell the whole thing or whole runs and don't make anything. IDK, it seems unless you find lame ass cover buyers most of the stuff doesn't seem worth anything. But good luck
Some money is better than no money for things you don't find value in anyway.
Yeah I think its worth it to organize and sell in smaller lots. Just time consuming
A little bummed to sell Wytches especially considering I have issue 1
signed by Snyder and Jock but Jock's art alone cant carry a stale comic
Eh, I liked it well enough, but I got the trade when IST was selling them for $0.99.
I think I even used my discount when I got it too.
That's a bad sign when they're selling it for a buck. But the art is boss as always.
Sandman was selling for 3$, sometimes it's just to get rid of stock
They were a DCBS exclusive edition around Halloween, so I'm pretty sure it was deliberate.
Comic purge complete. Now to wait for them to sell
time for the waiting game
>edgy
I feel like I'm missing out on something unless someone gets really worked up about this word choice.
I just finished an art comission, gonna blow half the money on comics. I’m gettin BPRD 1-5 this week, and Savage Sword of Conan next. Also pic related.
Enki Bilal is so good
I wish I had Spidey Noir.
I wish my waifu came in a box set
I wish I had started collecting things several years earlier.
I wish I came in my waifu
I wish my waifu came in your waifu like a russian nesting doll
I feel like I let my waifu down because I didn't collect her entire body of work.
I guess that depends, have you got her main body and at least 5 offshoots? And make sure you get enough annuals to make her legal age
I got one comic
then she is just a pale imitation of a shadow of your waifu. Disappoint!
SHIT! MY WAIFU IS WATCHING!
Waifus are important son
Who is she? Mine isn't Yea Forums related.
Only if you have one.
If you have many they are meaningless.
what if you are not monogamous? I couldn't choose between a singer/musician or a comic character, cause one is the voice and the other a silent character
Non-monogamous people are incapable of true love
>"volume" is only 3 issues and 32 pages
Why are you like this, IDW
More books is more money!
Just give me my Jem & The Holograms omnibus
no, not after that movie
>buying Waypool
How are you going to have fucking Bendis' Guardians omnibus and not have the DnA omnibus?
Reprint when?
;_;
There actually is one coming out in July.
WHAT
30th anniversary.
It's getting a Complete Collection later in the year. Hang in there, user
Holy shit, it's true! Thanks a lot for the heads up senpai!
You're welcome fellow Moebiusfag.
1/2
2/2
Bump
christ user you must be loaded, how long did it take to collect and read all of them?
How is JoJos? I'm on part 4 of Vol 1 and can't tell whether I should keep going afterwards
>Part 4 of Vol 1
I think you've got your terminology mixed up, do you mean chapter 4 of volume 1 of part 1?
I think that way for almost 50% of the shelves posted here. I started with my collection two years ago and I still don't even have one completed row in my shelf. Granted, I'm almost solely collecting essentials in paperback form but still.
sorry, Vol 4 of Part 1...
But part 1 only has three volumes.
>$55
Is this some kinda absolute edition? Because I don't remember the story being long enough to warrant this cost.
It's Aussie dollarydoos, senpai. What's that, about 40 USD?
Even so, we get completely stooged for nice things here due to the generally very high standard of living.
Says right there it's oversized. How big that is I don't know.
9.25" by 13" apparently.
>want to get the 4 New Super-Man books
>need one of the big guns to ensure that they don't fuck up the packaging
>all the bigger books I want are not in stock
Well, isn't that fucking great?
Jesus that pile looks hideous. Best of luck to you.
Stop teasing me, IST
If it's as big as Behold Galactus then it couls be pretty fuck hueg. Look up some images of Behold Galactus on shelves or in people's hands.
Never read Hush so genuine question. Why would you get the Omnibus when the story is supposed to be self-contained?
It includes spinoffs and frankly I just prefer a bigger omnibus over multiple trades. I thought the Jeph Loeb/Tim Sale omnibus was fantastic and it was primarily two standalone stories. It's nice to have them all together.
Vampirella limited edition box set for 50th anniversary finally came in.
That Vampirella Master Series volume is a lot of fun.
Is great
Just marvel pricing.
The comic is great though.
I once spent an hour going between two shops in Scotland deciding which format to get Jems 1-3 in. So glad I got the Outrageous Edition. Too bad OE 2 and 3 get cancelled.
Ghost Rider is finally getting a Marvel Masterwork, now that they are restoring these issues maybe Epics are next.
>Marvel is releasing a JMS Spider-Man omnibus
>contains all of Romita's issues...
>...and ends with Sins Past
What did they mean by this?
Newest stuff from last month minus a book I already finished reading (I Am Going To Be Small by Jeffrey Brown).
Time to double and triple dip!
And part 2 because fuck you image size limit!
Just got this in the mail
where'd you find it?
amazon
nice on the Templesmith. And Copra is my jam
hey, Claremont soon gonna visit a convention in my shithole of a country. Got myself trades of wolverine mini and days of future past + uncanny #201. Any reccomendations what else I should get signed from him?
>I had to buy BPRD v3 from Amazon.
Whelp.
>had to buy from Amazon
>oh no, the horror
In his defense, Amazon packing can be awful for one thing
>ordered spider-verse artbook
>can't wait
>it never came, and seller just refunded it
>price has already doubled and is around $60 now
I guess I just have to see if someone uploaded a pdf version
I wonder if he saw the price go up and flaked like a cunt.
The only prices I see now are $60-$70, and it's too late to leave negative feedback. So, yeah that's probably true.
First half of my duck books showing up tomorrow
>it's too late to leave negative feedback.
Did you give feedback before receiving it, or is there a time limit I'm not aware of?
Yes, 60 day limit. This was a pre-order book, which I'm not doing again on ebay.
>tens of thousands
haha, I think most things are only around 5-6K these days. Last year's bookscan numbers had the biggest of the big selling over 4K to be in the top 750
I'm pretty sure that Hush omni was cancelled a few months back
Amazon nearly guarantees damaged books.
[citation needed]
Not that user but while anecdotal it's common. My brother got two damged hardcover art books, and every new Epic Collection I've ordered has been nicked at the corners. One was in such a state that I returned it and went to a 3rd party seller
Have you literally never ordered from Amazon? I have like 20 paperbacks in my collection and right about every single one arrived damaged. They use shitty packaging for books, everybody knows that except you
Here's my general experiences that I've weighed against other people who buy books from Amazon a lot.
High chance of damaged book:
>buying a single book that's been out for a while and maybe some other cheap thing to get free shipping
Medium low chance of damaged:
>preordered paperbacks
Low chance of damaged:
>high value packages or more than 3 books at a time, preordered hardcovers
If you complain they'll usually give you a $5 courtesy credit or a month of prime and returns are easy though.
Welcome to /shelf/
Lurk more.
>courtesy credit
Man, I already had to pull that one like 5 times after ordering from the US amazon but amazon germany? Dear god, those cheap fucks literally never give courtesy credit. Keeping books because sending them back is useless? Forget about that, they make you send back even the cheapest of books. Also, they literally never apologise for the mistakes they make. It's pretty disgusting behaviour if you ask me. At least I managed to trick them once after having ordered something to a friend's place and acting as if I didn't know the person whom I sent the book to. They gave me a refund and let my friend keep the book
That sucks, US Amazon has been shitty for me a few times but they usually try to make it right and I've never had them dispute a return.
I've never had any issues with Amazon DE, but I had to contact the Audible support once and those cunts were so goddamn useless.
Yeah I know but I was checking IST's "coming soon" and they still list it for release this week.
They package books in boxes that are much too large for the books and then te books smash into the sides the whole time that they're in transit.
I think most reps are probably technically useless and it's just a matter of how much they're authorized to give you to make you feel better.
All these beats complaining about Amazon . Here’s what you do
>order book
>oh no it has a ding/bent corner (doesn’t even matter if it’s true)
>call and raise a fuss
>receive 20% refund or more
Rinse repeat
Let’s see if my post will be the one to kill this thread.
betas*
I don't want a refund or a discount. I want the new book in new condition like I ordered.
Definitely, but in Audible's case they overcharged me and couldn't even fix that (along with failing to honor that promo where you got a free book if you tried their services).
Then don’t order through Amazon. I have no problem paying peanuts for a book if it has a little ding on it, I just don’t care that much, but that’s just me
I can't pre-order the book from anywhere else
That's all good but you are forgetting a few things there
>you have to actually go to the postal office and send the damaged books back
>you habe to repeat the shit until you get an undamaged book which doesn't even have to work out after 5 tries
Even if you're getting a discount, they are literally wasting your valuable time
It wasn't alwaysa problem. Over the last 10 years I've gotten books from them just fine. I even have their card and I figured those rewards would be great for books. I just wish they didn't have monkeys packing the fucking boxes.
>Batman Inc
Nice! I didn't get round to reading that till a couple years ago. You a fan of the other Morrisonbats? I liked it a lot
After having just said that, where do you think this conversation is going to go next? Don’t bother replying to this post because I won’t reply to your next one, I want you to rather simulate it in your mind enough times until it makes sense.
All you have to do is go through the customer service thing on the front page they call you you raise a fuss and you get anywhere from 20% to 50% Hell you might even get 100% off if you’re pissed off enough. That’s a 5 to 10 minute phone call, not a lot of time, and we’re here posting on Yea Forums so we’re not really in a position to be complaining about wasting time in the first place.
Yes Amazon is shit at delivering stuff in good condition. At least 50% of what you order will be damaged and damage could literally be just a tiny Nick or a bruise or a band. I am simply giving you the option to fuck them right back if you don’t want to do that then do whatever the hell you want for some countries the best price by far is Amazon and that’s all we have to deal with this is just a real life cheat code for you
Ebay, Cheap Graphic Novels and In-stock Trades are the greatest.
5 minutes with customer service, half an hour to send the book back (which IS mandatory most of the time). Multiply that by x and you got yourself a couple of hours wasted if you are waiting for a book in perfect condition. I agree that one should exploit Amazon but with books, it's way too tedious so might as well go with other sellers
Cheap-comics.com too
What are you talking about? You don’t send the book back, you keep the book and you get the refund. I’m not theorizing here I’m speaking from personal experience . I have jewed Amazon for well over $1000 only by doing these little five or 10 minute phone calls with customer service. Obviously you should use a better option if you have it if I were American I would be using IST. But I live in Canada and in Canada Amazon always has the cheapest price. And if you happen to find it for cheaper on say indigo or the book depository, within hours Amazons algorithm will crack down on that and they will have the cheapest price. Factor in the refunds I’m getting and nothing is even coming close to the price I’m getting on Amazon.
There is no “but” to this post or anything that I’m saying. If you must use Amazon then this is a cheat code for you to use.
ever tried those middle man services? i had an ebay buyer from overseas do that shit use some ebay owned company and i mailed it to them and they took it to canada without customs fees or some shit.
Batman Inc is so great
I’m not totally sure what you’re referring to, but I am more than welcome to learn more about it. I only really use eBay for floppies. I find you only find something there that beats Amazon on price may be one percent of the time
ebay.com
usglobalmail.com
wikihow.com
there are services you mail a package that won't mail to canada mexico or international and they have a us address receive the package and then forward it through various means. the one i used to use would drive the package across the boarder to their warehouse on the Canada side and then send it out Canadian mail
I just finished reading Astro City: Life in the Big City, and I loved it.
Looking up the series, this looks really annoying to collect. I'm surprised this hasn't gotten any larger collected editions.
man, that is wondrous! Would you recommend it to a Vampi fan, even if I have the Master Series Omni?
Slott's Mighty Avengers may be my 2nd fav Avengers run behind Busiek.
>Wormwood
nice! Horror comics are the best
Interesting. Thank you for sharing this
find the kinkiest fetish he ever did and get him to sign it. Honestly, I would get him to sign X-Women, and fuck you, I liked it
>Thinking this would kill the thread.
true, but a 4k in sales probably had a 10k print run to last it for a few years. You still aren't wrong that most books are probably lower. Kids comics still have GIANT print runs, stuff like Dogman got a 5 MILLION copy first print run!
2 damaged books ever, one had the cover ripped and I sent it back for full refund (no postage required). The other is a 3rd party seller who expect me to pay the postage, Amazon honors refunds and it's on their dime.
I work in an Amazon FC and see everyday how books are stored and treated there. Stow crams them into bins, Count yanks them out and chucks them into a tote (or often onto their filthy station floor) to count them, then crams them back in for Pick to retrieve when an order comes through. Pickers use their items to slam the complete button and let them drop the two feet or so into their tote. Expensive hardcovers and coffee table books are treated like literal garbage at every stage, and even if they survive that gauntlet they still have to get shunted around on miles of conveyor belts. And as difficult as getting an undamaged book from Amazon is, it’s going to get even worse because stow rates have gone up, meaning there’s a lot more junk crowbarred into the bins than before.
I haven’t bought anything collectible from Amazon since I started working there, even with the employee discount. IST and MyComicShop and ebay get all my business now.
Don’t get me started on Funko Pops, pickers just delight in smashing the fuck out of those with like 12-packs of Gatorade.
InStockTrades has much better shipping practices than CGN — I buy Artist Editions from them and the lengths they go to are just insane. I love them.
I'm quite positive that IST is just Diamond. Every time I place a huge order, like, 7 to 10 GN, it just shows up in a Diamond Box.
My last order came in a Diamond box, too.
I completely agree. I really enjoy it but a shit ton of tiny trades is not desirable.
I'm not so sure. I buy from a couple of places that definitely aren't Diamond that also ship large orders in their boxes, though it's often obvious that they've been used before. Could be that comic retailers just tend to have a lot of them.
I was repeatedly stating that I am using Amazon Germany, yet you are adamant about being in the right. I am telling you that from MY personal experience, our Amazon demands the products back except for the one time I purchased something for a friend. They literally don't provide customers with refunds unless you send back the product and they especially don't give extra credit
>inb4 you don't know how to contact Amazon customer service properly
I have literally received like 10 figures for free off of amazon.com before by doing exactly what I was trying to do with the German one
Maybe but they could just instead be someone that buys so much from Diamond that they repack Diamond's boxes.
They just reuse diamond boxes. The owner of IST went on omnibros once and talked about how he started the business.
I don't think it did too well in singles, so the trades that they did make were limited.
Maybe if he ever wants to continue it in singles-format, he'll bring it back to Image.
But even there it isn't a 100% change that it will get bigger collections (like Prophet never getting them)
Prophet in library edition format would be sick.
What the fuck are diamond boxes?
They are boxes from Diamond Distribution. Often times, if you order a big stack of trades from IST, the shipping box that shows up to your residence will bare the the Diamond Distribution branding. Hence, our discussion.
oh no....
Can Yea Forums help me rearrange my shelf? I want to throw my complete Calvin and Hobbes boxset and Akira box set on there. I have a space on the bottom, under the shelf in image two, but it's on carpet, and if I put other books there, would they be fine? Not sure how well books do on carpet.
Copra is great. I hope theres more to come.
You can always cut a cardboard box to lay flat and put it on that. I do that for the wire shelves I have.
Yeah, the pricing is a good deal. It's about $70 for everything. The box is custom and I couldn't find the same one anywhere else. The omni is worth about $25-$50 right now, while the rest is about $15 each. Master series is usually a good place to start. It's also her 50th anniversary box, so I think a fan would like it.
I wanted to get an HC version of Habibi but there are apparently two versions. One of them is clearly more expensive (Pantheon Books) while the other is cheaper and lighter (Faber & Faber). I can't find anything on the differences so anyone here know what they are?
Why does the company that started as an online book store treat books like that? Does IST have collectibles other than books? I can almost never find anything on IST, so I have to find it on ebay
>mfw box-man stealthily enters the thread
You're not fooling anyone
I don't lurk these threads enough to get the reference but if you're that paranoid about carpet it's a practically free solution.
Nice psyop
My most recent purchase was the collected editions of Morrison's Doom Patrol run in preparation for the show (it's not out yet where I live.)
>museum of terror 3
As much as I love Junji Ito I'd probably sell it if I was smart enough to grab it when it was list price.
I bought those books almost a decade ago when they were still in print. I know they sell for around a hundred bucks on Amazon now.
1 and 2 aren't too bad but 3 is around $150-200
maybe I'm just a bad collector but some OOP stuff I'd be fine selling if it got over 5x cover price to expand/rotate my collection. Though maybe not always since I have Memories by Katsuhiro Otomo which I somehow snagged for about $10
I remember someone here asking if FOMO actually happens to people with books.
Well, here you go.
I wouldn't really call it FOMO, it's just a reality when you're dealing with a secondary market. I've been buying and selling and trading used video games since I was like 7 at the flea market so I'm just inclined to pay attention to the secondary market.
In a perfect world we'd have a POD solution for every comic that ever existed so the only secondary market would be special editions, autographed editions and such.
I still don't think FOMO happens with books
Well you're fuckin' WRONG, nerd.
It does
ie IST gives 50% off for the first week and then 42% off after that
Yeah, when I saw they has the MA HC for only 20 bucks I had to get it. It's just a lot of fun. Probably my next read once I finish the JLI Omni.
Image will be reprinting it now, but I wanted to get the Bergen Street Comics releases instead. I didn't keep up with the singles releases, is there a reason issue 25 wasn't collected in these trades or in the upcoming Image reprints?
What are some good IDW comics, considering their current state
Ragnarok
Tipton and Tipton Star Trek, if you like Star Trek. Their Mirror Broken and Through the Broken Mirror were great. They created Based Barclay
Jem
TMNT. Easily. It's so good.
What do you mean by "their current state"?
Hey, I got one of those with my Waid DD for whatever reason. Probably cos it was like 9 HCs

>In the past nine months IDW Publishing has lost $2.5 million.

Should I spend $100+ on this stack of random 70s comics? I've been living in Japan for half a decade and the total lack of floppies drives me to consider silly things.
I do love bronze age comics. If I lived in Japan and had very little access to American comics I'd definitely be tempted even if I don't normally love floppies.
A part of me enjoys how random a collection it is - reminds me of my own buying habits growing up. I imagine it must have belonged to some young soldier stationed here for a short stint decades ago.
That's a hot native-american angel lady.
Ive aleays dug those museum of terror spines
I'm proud of us, people. We hit bump limit the same week a movie came out.
Those Panini versions must be killing your wallet. It's disgusting how their pricing is compared to the US versions
I love Batman & Robin and Batman Inc, but very cold on the first part of Morrison's Batman epic.
Funnily enough, I'm returning Vol. 2 of Batman Inc to Amazon because it's not new as advertised. No problem at all getting the refund, but now I have to find the book somewhere else.
