Just started watching this anyone else seen it yet
My question exactly, I'm probably going to watch it later, has anyone seen or heard about this? Does anyone care?
They had some really big names on-board the pilot originally, not sure if they ended up contributing and it seems like this show is seriously lacking the user attention it could be getting
Doesn't help OP used the (much less appealing) game designs for his pic.
Here's the intro, I see Nelson Boles (who was the showrunner for Clarence post-Skyler and did a bunch of special animation sequences like the trippy stuff in "Chad and the Marathon") directed it, pleased to see him involved.
youtube.com
It's pretty good so far.
And poster
This will probably languish in obscurity like every other kids' show on Amazon, I really can only think that this would've had some giant threads before release if something that looked like this was coming out on CN or Netflix
Most good shows on Netflix languish as well. Only shows with good advertisement campaigns (Voltron, She-Ra, Carmen Sandiego) get the time of day.
Hilda and Harvey Street Kids are about as popular as they could be considering what they are too, don't Trollhunters, Castlevania, and Dragon Prince have decent fanbases as well (not to mention the normie-accessible adult comedy stuff like BoJack and Big Mouth)? I'm sure there's plenty of stuff that gets buried under the mountain of content but a lot of it (like movie tie-in shows and preschool cartoons) would likely be just as ignored online on any other channel.
I can't think of ANY Amazon cartoons that have managed to get any real attention. Cartoon Saloon should honestly be counting their blessings that they didn't greenlight Eddie and that they're doing a show for Disney Channel instead
What the fuck? I had no idea they were doing this.
Never played the second game but I wish we got more comfy Halloweencore vidya like that.
>Stretch Armstrong, Croods, and Turbo never got what they deserved because it didn't really do shipping bait or gay pandering
Fucking faggots
Music by The Blasting Company, same guys who did OTGW too, and apparently they scored the whole show. Damn I gotta sit down with this and a beer once it gets dark out
>Music by The Blasting Company
Consider my interest piqued.
Just finished it the episodes flow into each other and it has a plot like others said if this was on Netflix it would probably have a small following.
Wren looks significantly less cute than I was expecting but whatever since Lucy can probably fill the cute quota on her own.
I do so happen to have Amazon prime and while I never use their video services I'm keen on checking this out.
okay, I'll watch it
I remember playing this game back in 2010-11. Haven't played the sequel yet. Just imagine your cosplay ends up giving you the powers of the character you're cosplaying as.
Stretch Armstrong had some slight shipping bait between Jake, Riya and Ricardo, but I think that's more of one of the many unresolved subplots from the producers assuming they'd get more episodes beyond 26.
>Just imagine your cosplay ends up giving you the powers of the character you're cosplaying as.
I've had this exact same idea for a video game or a comic or something but with actual cosplay.
>Doesn't help OP used the (much less appealing) game designs for his pic.
You say that, but I thought the game designs were quite cute while the thumbnail image in OPs video link just seems off-putting.
That thumbnail is weird - super bright colors makes it look like a wacky Fairly OddParents type thing (probably what Amazon thought would appeal to kids?) while the actual series uses rather muted warm autumn tones like Multiple Over the Garden Wall staff members are involved with the creation of the show and it shows
I really liked the first game and the DLC was ok. But also haven't played the second. I recall it not having a great reception, at least compared to the first.
How the fuck have I not heard of this?
Amazon is absolutely terrible at advertising cartoons - almost all promotion I've seen for this (and it's been very little) has been by Frederator themselves, and how many people is that going to reach beyond ultra-obsessives?
I played the second game cause Xbox gave it out for free and i was bored. Was surprisingly alright. Nothing too deep or ground breaking, but the Game play wasn’t too shabby and you could tell they were putting some genuine effort into the story and worlds.
Amazon Prime dude. Maybe there was a commercial or advertisements on a few places. Cartoon Hangover channel posted the trailer but it didn't trend at all. You can totally forgive yourself for not hearing about it earlier.
>Nelson Boles
Nigga, that was Stephen P. Neary who boarded and animated on “Chad and the Marathon,” an episode that was produced after Nelson had already left the show. Nelson Boles still played a pivotal role on Clarence, but you gotta get his contributions right.
You’re right, sorry user, just got my names mixed up. At least you are here to remind me rather than getting the two confused for all time
Gonna miss the rosy cheeks.
Fuck you, Yea Forums. Will you please shut up about Captain Marvel for just ONE SECOND?
This is giving me ThunderCats/CalArts Style flashbacks...
I hope you mean their face!
Just watched the first (11 minute) episode - compared to the first episode of Victor and Valentino it’s a goddamn night & day difference, this is at least five times better. It feels so much more ambitious in every regard, and like it’s actually going to try to set up some stakes and intrigue. Great design work with the backgrounds and color choices, amazing music, neat spooky autumn tone and highly competent and somewhat mildly unique-looking animation (while V&V feels virtually identical to nuPPG). Cute characters as well, though they all sort of feel like “the nice one”, at least they aren’t being annoying by being assholes to each other and holding the plot up. Zero overt moralizing either, which is something a lot of cartoons ditched earlier in the decade but has seemed to come back with full force lately (including V&V’s first ep). Definitely worth checking out if you like mystery/lore type shows
Bump for actually good show. Will there need to be rips for poorfags before anyone gives a shit?
Sounds promising. Victor and Valentino is a big letdown so far.
damn, those backgrounds lookin niiice
I mean, I'll be watching for Charlene so if she entertains I'll stick around. It'd be great if the brothers grow on me too though. That said, Costume Quest did make the better first impression by a long shot.
Expected to just watch the first episode but ended watching 4 out of the current 6 I see. Can't snapshot my favorite screens since Amazon Prime stuff gets in the way. Favorite episode so far is the first half of episode 2. When Wren and Everett let their newfound (but admittedly cool) power go to their heads and start acting like douchebags, Lucy and Reynold proving themselves as not-sidekicks was really cute and fun to watch. Gonna miss Lucy's Jellyfish costume, freaking adorable with the squeaky toy sound effects.
Also really like the first half of episode 4 when Everett makes it his mission to become BFFs with Lucy. Again, really cute stuff. I'm detecting a personal bias when it comes to anything involving Lucy. She's adorable.
Lastly honorable mention to Norm, he's a pretty fun guy so far.
It seems like they'll drop 6 or 7 more around fall, I assume one of those is a genuine Halloween episode so I respect the decision even though I bet they're already done
Are they siblings?
Here is the 720p: mega.nz
I don't know where 1080p
>Can't snapshot my favorite screens since Amazon Prime stuff gets in the way
I can’t stand this kinda stuff. Hulu and Netflix also do it, and the CN App used to do it, too. Wouldn’t sharing pics to show that you’re watching a Netflix/Hulu/Amazon/etc. series only help those companies? They could just add a little watermark in the bottom corner like broadcast TV networks do if it matters so much. Pic related made me realize this.
Thanks for the rips even though I don't need em! Everybody who's curious should give this show a shot.
>Are they siblings?
Yes, they are, though I've noticed all the MCs touch each other a lot - doesn't feel shippy though, they're just clumsy cute kids
>doesn't want to hug his bro-bro
Booo!
>art style looks nothing like the source material, which was already designed to look cartoony
what the fuck? It looks shit
>replacing the original art style of the game with the generic popular style of the day
>monster designs completely different to the game
>monsters are being controlled by an evil human
They took way too many creative liberties, as a fan of the game's world this doesn't interest me at all
The theme tune melody reminds me of the "Ernest Scared Stupid" theme:
youtube.com
>the (much less appealing) game designs
Gotta disagree with you there, chief. They're a bit odd, but the pseudo Wind Waker style has a lot more character & charm than the kids' super-generic look in the final show.
It looks like they're putting some real effort into the animation, which is nice to see. And I get that they need simple designs to make that work, but I really wish they'd made these characters look at least a LITTLE original and interesting.
It feels like some cartoons now are trying to get into more visually-interesting character designs (Carmen Sandiego and recent Disney shows for example), so the main character designs for this show feel kinda behind the times. I mean they're still doing that played-out :T face (pic related) for comedy as if we haven't seen it a million times.
Wren has a bit of what I guess would say is a cynical streak going on - she’s not mean enough to put a damper on the others’ fun but she seems more irritable and downtrodden, like she’s in a pre-teen mood swing state
I guess if you’re really familiar with the games it might be weird to you, but all incarnations of the franchise have a different artstyle - the comics look quite different from both the games AND the show, and this has the comic people involved rather than the game people. Also if this looked like what I’d seen of the games I’d never have watched it and assumed it was a cheap cash-in, so there’s that - the show really is nicely designed and animated, more than a quick cut trailer can get across
This looks amazing, it's got everything I would ever want in a cartoon for this genre/age range
And it's based on a video game?
Is this the first good video game cartoon?
Like Mario and Sonic had their ups, but honestly they don't hold up for anything other than memetic value
I'm gonna say it
The new art style is better for the purposes of this cartoon
Not that 3d cartoons can't be good, but for the type of humor and action, 2d is better
They are. Though it might be difficult to notice at first.
>Giving Double Fine any of your time or money ever.
Plus Tasha Harris who came up with Costume Quest isn't even remotely working on the show or the games and it shows. Double Fine sold out and all their new stuff is shit. I still have no idea how they aren't closed.
Yeah, there is a bit of the modern Frederator house style creeping in (which explains similarities to stuff like Adventure Time) but when you dive into it the show feels very pleasantly graphic novel-esque, it's definitely lacking the thick outlines and off-model moments of newer CN stuff and has a much subtler warm color palette and some abstract touches on some of the designs such as use of shorthand for hair that was more common in older cartoon and comic strip designs than it is today, where things tend to be quite literal and geometric
>the show or the games
they're making new costume quest games?
>little girl turning into Lincoln gains huge, very not-Lincoln-like muscles
Are the muscle growth fetishists really that important a fanbase?
The original style was perfect for cartoons and would have looked a lot more interesting. Plus the fun of CQ was that when you transform you go from some shitty box robot to an actual anime gundam robot. The style and the transformations do not look good or translate well plus negate the idea of the costumes being who you really are.
She was turning into the new action movie version of Lincoln rather than the historical figure, basically the Vampire Hunter version
Also you must have missed this whole thing
I think they thought that if the show was all chibified like that it would give the wrong idea of the tone and age range they were going for, which is absolutely correct. If this show was written the same but had the game designs I can’t imagine it working at all, it would have to be a very different show
>So, who's wackin' first?
What did she mean by this?
>generic artstyle
>all those dull costumes made for the show and hideous redesign of the Robot when there are at least 2 dozen more interesting ones they could have used
>no sign of the based Grubbins, instead it's just bland monsters being led by a human
I saw the Superhero, Terrordactyl, Unicorn, and a redesigned Space-Warrior costume in the trailer so that gives me more hope for more costumes to be shown off but all the original costumes are so uninspiring. What were they thinking with the Jellyfish, Lincoln, and Magician(?). It's not like the games didn't have human costumes either, Thomas Jefferson, Pharaoh, Wizard, and Pirate all look cool. Keeping traits from the kids when they transform is a detriment to the main costume designs. They didn't even have to do that since we see in the trailer that other costumes completely change their looks like the Karate-guy and Space-Warrior. I'll still give this a chance with first few episodes though because I love the games
>instead it's just bland monsters being led by a human
The guy leading them is clearly a monster, user. Are your eyes working well?
So Lucy has a Marcie “sir” complex where she calls Wren “mama” - is this from other iterations of the franchise? Is there an explanation? it’s kinda kinky
None of the episodes have sound for me. Anyone else experiencing this?
A-user... hat’s a girl.
Works for me with VLC
Change player to MPC-HC
I know, i mistyped, sorry
If they made a cartoon out of the original style it would look like a bad Canadian cartoon from the mid 00s
At least those last two got a big run. Stretch got only two small seasons and that pointless interactive special.
The audio is Dolby 5.1, which I'm sure gives trouble with some players, but all of the good/widely used desktop ones should handle it
It's late and I couldn't really tell from the trailer especially since the antagonists in both games were human with Dorsilla and Dr. Orel. The prior one being a Witch which made sense for her to control monsters. My issue was more that he didn't have anything significant about him visually like Dorsilla so he was just "some guy" who controlled by monsters but now knowing that he's a monster makes more sense
Still find it weird how they took the monsters being in people's houses to steal candy too literally as if they lived in the houses and disguised as people. Guess i'll have to wait til it's up on Kimcartoon to have a proper opinion on it since I used my Prime membership. Hope my favorite costume makes an appearance
>Though it might be difficult to notice at first
Bruh, they look exactly the same damn person. I think it’s safe for anyone to assume that they’re related right from the get-go.
Replaced all 720p episodes with 1080p versions: mega.nz
I want to tame the shit out of Wren
Nice job user, though 1080p episode 3 isn't up quite yet
i... agree
Ah, there it is. Again, good work.
The first time I watched the intro I didn't realize and thoughts something shippy was going on, in retrospect yes it's obvious though the show only mentions it in passing a couple of times, mostly in the first episode. A lot of shows hammer in the dynamic much harder, but here there's less opportunity since there essentially isn't an MC (leader is Wren, but it doesn't feel that she gets an inordinate amount of focus)
>we want the gravity falls audience
is it working? What's the lore like?
In fact I prefer the game designs.
>is it working
If we’re talking mass commercial success and widespread adult popularity, no - give it more than a single day I suppose but no other Amazon cartoon has managed to make much of any kind of splash
>what’s the lore like
Mild, but there - mostly recommend it if you’re looking for a spooky fall atmosphere rather than a mystery to pick apart, but I don’t think the type of lore that requires fans to solve a puzzle would work with a streaming series that dumps a bunch of episodes at once anyway. It is somewhat serialized though and they do make you wonder about tbe motivations and backstories of certain characters who show up
The ghost guy is literally McHale's avatar
I thought his avatar was sex god Jason Funderberker
Have you seen his tweeter? Curiously when he uses his wizard costume he looks like Jason.
I’m pretty sure it was confirmed that it’s his joking self-insert
user an author can have many avatars, Wirt is his self-insert too, just like the ghost and Jason or The Pirate McKale (Damn it this one is ugly as hell) or Pendleton with Finn and Ice King.
It’s worth noting that he had zero input on the Costume Quest series, he only directly worked on the unreleased 2015 pilot - Zac Gorman could have slid him in though, they are good friends and he did board the ghost episode
Just finished it (thanks MEGAnon). It's really cute. Like really cute. I was really worried that they just take the concept of the games and twist it into something it's not, but while it's a completely new story there is a clear love for the source material with a lot of nods to the games while still doing their own thing to adapt it to a TV show. It's a shame that it was only 6 episodes but I hope enough people watch it for there to be more, and I hope they include more characters from the games. Also Everett and Lucy are adorable together and can't wait for them to be a thing.
Wren is still amazing and I need more of her pronto
The work has a touch of him with the soundtrack and design, besides at least the wizard guy is his kind of character, but I don't understand why they left him out of the final show... maybe he was very busy with his Pinocchio movie, or maybe they thought that he wasn't adequate for the action shows.
This is season 1, part one - most likely the order was for 13 episodes so expect 7 more for certain, probably around Halloween
As far as I gather he worked on developing this show and creating a pilot which didn’t get greenlit for a couple of years, then went to pitching his own new show at CN (which didn’t seem to go anywhere), then moved onto working on Pinnochio with Guillermo - I’m sure they would have loved to have him on this show if he had the time, he’s just been trying to get something off the ground and didn’t have time to wait around on it
>it's definitely lacking the thick outlines of newer CN stuff
Don’t most people complain about modern cartoons NOT having thick outlines? There’s usually very little stylization nowadays, including characters’ line weight.
It looks like it will be generic and utterly disappointing. Just like the game it's based on.
>Also Everett and Lucy are adorable together and can't wait for them to be a thing.
ah yes, my fellow black dick X asian chick enthusiast
>then went to pitching his own new show at CN (which didn’t seem to go anywhere)
That's very interesting, do you know something about that show or the idea behind it?
>then moved onto working on Pinnochio with Guillermo - I’m sure they would have loved to have him on this show if he had the time, he’s just been trying to get something off the ground and didn’t have time to wait around on it
The problem with McHale (and paradoxically his best aspect) is that he is very "greedy" he is always trying to create an uncommon or revolutionary story and that's not how the industry works (from the point of view of the networks) and sometimes his projects can be very expensive because he prefers quality over all the things. That's why OTGW has 10 episodes instead of 18 as he wanted.
>That's very interesting, do you know something about that show or the idea behind it?
I believe it was confirmed to be a similar vibe to OTGW but with a winter theme - I don't have any other info on it, and I don't think any art was leaked because he hopes to still make it someday (and odds are he'll get the chance at Netflix after Pinocchio wraps)
Their daughter (on the left) is cute too
And we need to add that McHale has a very aggressive idea of freedom, when someone change his work he gets really angry (and when I say someone I was talking about a network). I like that aspect of him but networks probably don't like that.
He is so "greedy" that it seems like even when he mentioned that he didn't have ideas to continue OTGW in fact he wanted to make a trilogy of it.
They made a show about this game? Neat.
Does this evil cutie appear?
The game was super fun how how you could possibly make a cartoon based on it is unknown to me.
>I believe it was confirmed to be a similar vibe to OTGW but with a winter theme
I believe it user, McHale usually gives hints about his projects in his twitter. I can give you this information after analyze it. His version of Pinocchio will have a christmas theme at the beginning and probably during the last part of the story, he is probably trying to imitate Tim Burton with his Nightmare before of Christmas theme.
He wanted to work with Pinocchio because he is looking for a protagonist similar to Wirt (they are considered fool and Clowns and Pinocchio always wears a pointy hat).
There is gonna be a very important romantic element and it will include a romantic triangle or even square. Between Pinocchio, a yellow bird called Gina and probably (and weirdly) The Blue Fairy.
The Blue Fairy will most likely be the main antagonist of this story, she is probably a witch in this version.
Gina is most likely a cursed girl... and probably a princess... (this sound crazy I know).
The freedom will be very important in this story.
I studied Pinocchio a time ago because college things.
Costume Quest 2 came out in like 2015. No mention of anymore games.
Because Psychonauts 2.
So we're all in agreement Lucy's best character right?
Y’know, I never actually took a close look at Pat’s profile pic. It looks like some kinda spooky ghost made out of a paper plate that he probably did with his son.
Cute.
Yes
KEK that's a funny cover because it seems like the little guy drew it but the big guy applied color to it.
Guys what do you think of this prediction?
Any Psychonauts/Brutal legend cameos?
I like Wren's design the most but Lucy is easily the most pure
Wait, is this based on the Tim Schafer property?
Scroll through the thread and you will see plenty of posts giving you some hints as to the answer to your question.
But yes
ble
Yeah it has another reference... this one is about his novel Bags.
Geez, frederator is a husk of it what used to be. They have been trying so hard to make a new adventure time for many years.
>They have been trying so hard to make a new adventure time for many years.
Why do you think so?
Is it a sequel?
Every cartoon that Frederator aired since the AT success looks like an adventure time wannabe, you know, retarded and dark humor and simplistic character design and
Second
Pendleton created that cartoon, of course it looks like Adventure Time besides that show is Futurama by Pendleton, that guy is a huge fan of Futurama and The Simpsons
They don't really have that many shows to their name in the first place, and since AT was hugely successful in the merchandising department at least for a while I can't really blame them for chasing that vibe.
Costume Quest leans more towards GF than anything though (ignoring that its source material is older) by being about a creepy but relatively grounded town, injecting fantasy into reality rather than reality into fantasy.
Also, I had no idea that Bravest Warriors was still running as a Canadian Flash zombie show. How sad, even though it was never good for any reason besides big hip girl
What's that? Looks like Mc Cracken.
You seems to be hype as fuck because McHale Pinoccio. Yeah, same, bro.
Maybe I'm wrong, user, but I feel every cartoon that I've seen in frederator YT channel like it's trying to be like AT, besides the dots and noodle arms style.
The first season of Bravest warriors was weird as fuck.
What's wrong with it? The design is cute even when it's simplistic and the humor is very good, I had some hard laughing with Bravest Warriors (I dislike the romantic story although).
Why can't they recreate the same success than AT had?
Yeah, but those are just shorts, and a huge chunk of them (I want to say the majority) are by AT staff members
I don't have any problem with the character design, actually I prefer simplistic styles over detailed ones.
>Why can't they recreate the same success than AT had?
I don't really know, maybe AT was aired in a moment when TV shows were basically death. The episodes were easy to follow, but it also has lore development. I think It can't be recreated because almost every cartoon of nowdays need a plot development.
Your honestly way off the mark if you're dismissing this as an AT clone
>Costume Quest leans more towards GF than anything though (ignoring that its source material is older)
Costume Quest is older than GF?
I like Gina, it's a pretty name but she should be blue in my opinion. I don't know if the Blue Fairy is a love interest then she gets that color automatically and love interests have to be different from each other hence they need another color for Gina. Would it be too much if they called her Beatrice?
>You seems to be hype as fuck because McHale Pinoccio. Yeah, same, bro.
Well it's not exactly that I'm dying for it (I'm not obssesed)... I just like to analyze McHale's work because I studied Pinocchio and it's fun how easily McHale could have completely adequate sequel for OTGW using this material because the similarities with OTGW. Huh... what do you think about the analysis? People barely talks with me for some reason.
>McHale could have completely adequate
could have made a completely adequate sequel*
And I like this weird game of his about hints and look for answer... it's... funny. But yeah he is my favorite author right now.
By two years, the first game was released in October 2010, Hirsch came up with the idea for GF the same year and it started airing summer 2012 (it was developed and brought to air extraordinarily quickly, which is why it’s so impressive that the early episodes are so strong)
Is GF a plagiarism? I ask because there are twins in this story.
Are they twins? I thought Wren is older, though that was just a hunch on my part.
Anyway no, Hirsch is a twin himself and the main duo are based on him and his sister
McHale uses the blue according to the poetic meaning, I think that the character related with the color is often the one who say "goodbye" to the protagonist in his works, so Blue Fairy will be the character who say goodbye to Pinocchio during the last part of the story. My hope is that Pinocchio will conserve his romantic interest but there is chance that Gina says goodbye to him with the promise of being reunited again too.
The other chance is that she isn't blue because McHale wants to respect her colors (she is often portrayed with the colors yellow and pink)
Yeah but that doesn't mean that it wasn't a plagiarism, he could have decided to use twin brothers after watch this product even if he is a twin himself.
I assumed twins. Wren makes it clear she's the oldest but I assumed that was a "few seconds older" kind of thing. It's easy to assume all kids are the same age.
This, they are clearly twins. This is very suspicious to me.
June bride, shine so bright,
flowers in her hair but it just ain't right.
June bride, shine so bright,
flowers in her hair, we look good together
we look good together.
Yeah it feels like summer.
Oh no... oh my... oh no... I will be surprise if McHale applies this kind of connotation to the story... really morbid.
>a vast majority of Wren's costume transformations are masculine
Gorman was also involved in the pilot like McHale
also Gorman's a writer, not a boarder: this show appears to be script driven, given the written by and storyboarded by credits are separate
Who is the author then?
the writer (in the case of that episode the post I was talking about, Zac Gorman)
Oh... and who is the author of the whole story? Sorry if I am being autistic.
the showrunners are Bryan Caselli (boarder/director on Sanjay & Craig, one of the staff writers on season 3 of Star Vs) and Will McRobb (who's served as a producer on a bunch of shows)
okay so looking up costume quest stuff on Frederator's blog, I'm semi-wrong: It's a script driven show *but* the boarders have freedom to change things:
>Since the show is serialized (one big story told over multiple episodes), we went with the method of scripting the shows. But we encouraged the board artists to make any joke changes or story edits that they saw fit, without affecting the overall narrative. I couldn’t be happier with the result: a perfect mix of the writers’ and board artists’ voices, and we never ran into a moment where we had to redo large sections of the board. It’s not uncommon on a board-driven show to get a note like “Act 3 isn’t working,” and a lot of work has to be redone. We never had that on Costume Quest, because the script was already there from the start.
I feel that there is something wrong with this show... it's like the characters don't have much personality.
looking into it further:
the original pitch came from Zac Gorman (who was writer/boarder of the pilot; Pat only served as director) and Thurop Van Orman (who isn't on the full show)
I swear I saw somewhere that Hirsch said he started pitching it to Disney back in ‘09
>What's that? Looks like Mc Cracken
She's the final boss of the game.
I watched the documentary on the Blu-ray recently and while maybe his initial development deal was inked in ‘09 I distinctly remember him pulling out what he said were some of the first drawings of Dipper and claimed they were from 2010, which struck me as crazy recent for being the genesis of the show
Extra detail that might be helpful, he tried lots of different pitches before he landed on GF
I don't know if I can trust anything related to Disney, they practically never say the truth.
2 years between pitch and premier seems to be the lower limit time-wise: SU's pitch was developed back in 2011, for instance
I see.
>Pat only served as director
The new generation of authors always slid a little of their tastes in the things in which they work even if they aren't the owners.
yeah no I don't doubt Pat had influence, Genndy was merely timing director on the SU pilot yet he def directly influenced it
I liked the game because it for the most part could be interpreted as kids just playing pretend on a halloween night. It reminded me of my childhood when every house on the block went all out with decorations turning the place into a halloween wonderland and our parents would just set us loose. I've never really seen anything that captures that and this game kinda did.
That trailer seems to throw it all out the window to create some generic looking hero formula.
It was produced by Shout Factory and there’s plenty of Disney badmouthing in the commentaries, since they licensed it out I don’t think the standards were as strict (same with the Invader ZIM Media Blasters DVDs, which all sorts of negative things at Nick’s expense in the extras that were removed when Paramount reissued the series themselves)
I really liked the first game.
That however looks like some defunct Cartoon Network pilot.
The biggest problem is not releasing it in October.
The fuck are they thinking?
They only put out half the season right now, the other half will probably be in the fall - since Amazon shows typically have trouble gaining an audience it may not be a bad move, gives plenty of time for fanart and for it to get attention so that less people will miss watching the conclusion at the seasonally-appropriate time
>Are they siblings?
Yeah. The plot of the first game is after you choose to play the brother or the sister (who play identically), the other one gets kidnapped by the villains of the game. You and your neighbour (the black kid) race out to save him/her. Glasses girl joins the party later. This all takes place on Halloween.
>It was produced by Shout Factory and there’s plenty of Disney badmouthing in the commentaries
Seriously?! Can you post some example I'm very curious.
Who is the redhead girl?
It's mostly about the censorship issues and the airing schedule, nothing extremely scandalous or that we didn't know before beyond more detailed info on the standards & practices notes, but likely stuff that wouldn't make it into a 1st party Disney product
Or Sugar with Hotel Transylvania.

And done with episode 5, one more to go. Not quite sure I understand the Shark tank joke since I doubt it's implying what I think it's implying. Though there's nothing else it can be implying.
>Reynold: "The Salt-water's the worst part."
>Smug Shark Wren: "It's not all salt-water."
>Camera focuses on Reynold's distressed face.
pretty sure it IS supposed to be a pee joke
Nah, she's the next-to-last boss.
The final boss is a giant fat Grim Reaper named Big Bones.
Dipper and Mabel and Wren and Reynold are at a fall festival and their fighting for the last candy apple. Who would win?
Dipper and Mabel have the planning and diversion skills, but Wren and Reynold would be able to kick their fucking asses if they have their costumes
Great thread, so many interesting things
Dipper and Mabel have the advantage in planning and sneaking things away, but if Wren and Reynold have their costumes, then they get destroyed.
why we sayin the same thing bro
Those cute little bastards, McHale's designs are very nice
>Wren and Reynold
How could anyone NOT think they're twins?
Not him but thanks for the info
>Everett’s room has DBZ posters
They really understand black culture, god bless
Anybody here played the game?
Several people evidently, given multiple posts about anons mad about the changes they made.
I myself probably will play it now, as I’m 5 episodes into this and quite impressed, but I’m guessing it’s probably advisable to wait until around Halloween when the second half of the season comes out
Also I like how Benji brushes Everett off and gets embarrassed by him but isn’t a total asshole about it like Craig’s brother Bernard from COTC; they feel similar as characters but he’s much more likable here
That's a redneck gator farming boy from the past
Costume Quest 2 came out in like 2015 and the plot involves time travel. In the future you find adult Everett and Lucy and their daughter joins your team. In the past the boy on the right (Monty) joins you while Auburn Pines is a swamp town.
I played both except I never finished the sequel. Not because it's bad but because I was playing it on a shitty mac laptop and there was a visual glitch where the lighting was extremely intense and made things too bright so the whites were incredibly bright during combat.
Both games are really cute and charming RPGs with fun Paper Mario-like mechanics and they don't outstay their welcome as each game is like 5-7 hours long. I highly recommend them to anyone who wants a fun Halloween adventure, and they are pretty cheap nowadays with each coming out to a couple dollars and they are on most platforms. Now that I have a powerful computer I think i'm going to replay them since this cartoon reminded me about how much I loved this series.
Yes, I regret ruining your innocence user, but Reynold has tasted her sister's pee
yes
Charlyne Yi’s new music video was directed by Patrick McHale, if anyone in this thread is interested: youtube.com
A few notes so far:
Explicitly making clear that the monsters won't eat the children kills all tension. I expect that a kid's show has to pull their punches a bit, but I feel like there are better ways to do it.
In general the show has kind of an awkward feel to the writing. Like it's between a no stakes little kids show and a Gravity Falls older kids show.
The art is nice, and the characters charming, but it's not quite there yet
Yeah. Cartoon Hangover (their main focus this decade) just kind of died out. SuperF*ckers was a bust, Bravest Warriors winded down to the point where the latest episodes use tweening/puppet animation, and Bee and PuppyCat is 90% teaser promos, updates, or ads for merchandise.
And nothing really became of pic related besides The Summoning (purely for waifubait), Welcome to Doozy (also waifubait), and ***barely*** Tyler & Co. (for actually being pretty neat).
With Adventure Time finally over, Fred Seibert's at his wit's end.
Does anyone succeed to download episode one? Mega failed to download again and again...
Twincest ahoy!
lolwut
Played the 1st game and DLC, but not the sequel.
Just finished the current batch of episodes, it’s a pretty charming show. The characters’ personalitiles do feel a bit mild/toned down from what you typically expect from a cartoon but it works out fine imo, and all the technical aspects of the show are well done and show a lot of effort poured in.
dayum, work it girl
>a vast majority of Lucy’s are trans-species
I’m sure we’d see some Tumblr theories floating around if that site wasn’t on a steep decline in popularity at the moment
I prefer the game designs honestly
Charlyne Yi is cute! CUTE!!
>Twincest
No.
wish they still use the video game graphics
also does it feel like over the garden wall?
You're making it sound like the monsters aren't trying to even hurt them. Which is certainly not the case.
"Languish on Netflix" translates to "still have literally 10 times the amount of viewers as even well performing Amazon Originals"
The amount of people using Netflix for original shows compared to Amazon's is outrageous
I like the game designs better.
Bump
Game designs are good in context but would make the show look really lame to most older viewers, they’d be sacrificing their periphery audience
I wish I could cheer up spider Lucy with an ice cream sandwhich
bump
Played the first game and DLC
It has good points - fantastic setting (great idea for an RPG), silly humour, cute characters; all get obscured by how shitty, repetitive, and mediocre the gameplay is.
Again the setting/story is great so I want to check this series out
