Thundercats (2011)

On a scale from RWBY to Avatar: The Last Airbender, where does this fall? Do you have to like the original to care for this one?

why the fuck did you choose those two shows as the ends of your scale

Avatar is vastly overrated so TC 2011 is better then it

The pilot was amazing, but the series declined rapidly in quality after that.

It doesn't even register on any scale. It's terrible.

>SRS Thundercats reboot
Thundercats was always stupid shit, why would anyone want to take it seriously?

Started out with potential, went to shit quickly.

Doesn't help that the showrunners exercised almost no control over the writers, and thus there was little consistency from episode to episode.

FUCK LION O
PRAISE TYGRA

A good reboot does not require viewing the original. Thundercats 2011 gets a strong 7.5/10 form me.

RWBY is unironically more tonally consistent than this show, even if RWBY only has one good season

This. Some of the best episodes in the series were written by one of the voice actors because he actually cared about stuff like story arcs and character development.

breh

A scary thought

Which episodes are they?

>On a scale from Daffy Duck Meet the Groovie Goolies to The Great Piggy Bank Robbery, where does this fall? Do you have to like the original to care for this one?
Fixed as the shows you brought up were trash.

Anyway the only good thing about Thundercats 2011 is Butterfly Blues, the rest is best avoided.
Soooo..... See You Later Gladiator is where Thundercats 2011 lies at.

RWBY, with all of its flaws, still has both a more interesting cast and a consistent tone.

I can't even describe the bad taste the show left by the time it ended.

It had TWO kinda finales, and they both sucked ass.

And their plans for the next season were just bad.

You don't need to watch the original to care for it but it's not very good at all.
The two-part pilot episode is very obviously written by different people than the actual series, which comes off as being written by fanfiction writers that actively hate the protagonist and want one of the side characters to be the real star.

Basically any episode where Lion-O wasn't shit on was written by his voice actor.

I'm going to ignore OP's dumb fucking question and comment on Thundercats2011 only.

It was full of a lot of promise, interesting concept art direction and good ideas but the writing wasn't strong enough to keep it going. Near the end of its cancellation it had the progression of a poorly written anime and was immensely stagnant and everyone had to suffer through pointless episodes literally waiting for any type of progression to happen to make it worth something and then it ended and confused many on whether they even wanted more or not.

Attached: well aint that just peachy.jpg (288x288, 34K)

Wrote the second half of the Trials of Lion-O, the two episodes that kinda rescue the direction the show went after the terrible mid-season finale.

And wrote the episode that revealed the origins of the swords (that cool as fuck episode where Lion-O relives the memories of his badass ancestor, with that hot panther girl).

incredibly boring

at least the new one will be entertaining

>which comes off as being written by fanfiction writers that actively hate the protagonist and want one of the side characters to be the real star.

Didn't the actual plans for season two confirm this to be bullshit. Lion-O ended up becoming a strong leader and beloved king, while Tygra ended up being a bad leader that was only celebrated as a king when he died?

It devolved into a bad Tygra fanfic. Like many bad fanfics, the only way that the writers could prop up their pet character was by shitting on all of the other characters (particularly lion-O) and making them stupid/incompetent or just generally unlucky by comparison. It also froze Cheetara's development because after she became his girlfriend, she pretty much just stopped doing anything interesting so she could be arm-candy and gaze adoringly at her boyfriend. In the pilot, Lion-O was the one who was interested in ancient technology and was the only one who understood them, making him the butt of jokes for other characters. After the pilot, the writers decided to make Tygra the tech expert for reasons and gave him a super awesome gun that he instantly knew how to use even though he never seemed interested in that kind of thing before.

No one likes this show whether or not they've seen the original.

The change in the characters after that pilot gave me whiplash.

Does Lion-O even show a hint of his tech curiosity after the pilot?

They said this well after the show was canceled though. It could have been them backpeddling to try to appease disappointed fans.

I will always be grateful that this show exists for one reason only

Attached: 140.gif (312x176, 2.47M)

Not really. It was usually either Tygra or to a lesser degree Pantro who fixed things or tinkered with technology. With Panthro, it made more sense because he had been away from home for a long time and had more experience using tech than anyone else in the group.

Bitches in this show were fine.

I still like the pre-reveal Pumyra a lot.

Also, Panthera was hot as fuck. I want her to dominate me.

You cannot convince me that would have ever materialized if the show had gone on, seeing how haphazardly they wrote the first one. Like zero planning whatsoever

The former is true but the latter is not

the pilot episodes and the episodes where Lion-O lives as his ancestor gave me that really fun imagination tickling where your mind just can't help but imagine how great this story could be in depth and scale (for an animated tv show on CN, anyway) if it lived up to its potential

It's a shame about the unlikable cast tho, besides a few characters

Attached: 1528580518118.png (410x410, 214K)

The flashback episodes were the ones written by his VA.

The show could have really benefited from one head writer who controlled the direction of the show and a detailed series bible so that characters would be written consistently from episode to episode.

They had two IIRC. One was the resident Tygra fanboy, and the other was the character designer.

You have to actually get to that point for it to count, senpai.

To play devil's advocate, there was a lot of interest in the fandom back then to see a Pumyra redemption, and yet what they revealed was an even bigger fuck you to the character.

So maybe they didn't change their plans in response to the fans when they revealed them, and Lion-O and Tygra's arcs were intended.

But they never got even close to realizing them, so fuck them. They suck.

Pumyra was a huge disappointment. In the original, she was a healer and a pacifist on a team of warriors who solved problems by outsmarting her enemies instead of just punching them. She was always reading or collecting botanical samples or doing nerdy science stuff. She really stood out and was an interesting contrast to someone like Cheetara who was a more of a traditional warrior woman. In the reboot, Pumyra is just another generic fighter who doesn't seem very intelligent and who ends up betrays everyone because it was another reason to have something bad happen to Lion-O.

Nope, that was completely forgotten and somehow it's always Tygra (the guy who in the pilot kept teasing Lion-O for believing that technology exists) who ends up doing maintenance work on Panthro's tank.

After the pilot, working with ancient tech is now cool and therefore, Lion-O doesn't get to do it anymore. Tygra now gets to make fun of him for being lame and not understanding how samoflanges work.

I don't think any show made me more mad than Thundercats 2011. You can't put that much potential into the show at the beginning, and then utterly waste it.

Attached: 200mad.jpg (497x732, 42K)

Because RWBY is absolute shit and ATLA is kino

Lion-o is q literal double-cuck, first to Tiger Dick, then to Mummy Dick.

Supposedly, they wanted to do a time-skip, so if the show lasted another season, you'd get to see a grown-up Wily Kit break his heart too.

I wanted to see Lynx-O and Bengali, but after what happened with the other characters, it's probably a good thing that they didn't get included in the main cast.

How does the series end? Is it like "See you in the next season 2 never" or does it have like a solid ending?
I don't want to watch something just to feel bitter.

The show is a good pilot followed by some really, really weak episodes.
Do yourself a favor; watch the pilot and just imagine the rest of the show was good.

Fuck you, OP.

Awn...

>I don't want to watch something just to feel bitter.

Don't watch this then, user.

The Thundercats get beaten down and they and their allies only narrowly manage to escape, Lion-O loses the power stone to Mumm-Ra, the girl he likes is revealed to be a double agent (and also a gross undead insect monster) and is romantically involved with Mumm-Ra, and the heroes are unable to save the bird people's floating city and end up crash-landing into the planet below. They try to end it on a hopeful note explaining that they're going to try to fix the damaged city and that the animal groups now see Mumm-Ra's true colors and will side with Lion-O and the Thundercats now, but it feels like a hollow victory.

Would have been an 11/10 is Lion-O/Wilykit would have happened as planned. Fan artists, please get on this! I cannot commission such work here in the state of MA. If I lived in New York, that'd be a different story.

Based on the writing from the previous season, they'd fuck it up somehow.

The one thing I really remember is one of the artists for it completely losing his shit over the fact that someone said Pumyra looked like a man. Which, to be honest, wasn't wrong.

mtv.com/news/2630299/power-con-2013-thundercats-reboot-creator-details-the-second-season-that-could-have-been/

Also, the second season would have been off the walls crazy, but only in a way that would have been funny if you were drunk with friends and making fun of the show.

>Pumyra becomes a bug monster and Lion-O can't kill her so Tygra does it
>Slythe hates Lynx-O because he burnt down the marsh filled with innocent wives and unborn children
>Slythe beheads Lynx-O and betrays Mumm-Ra only to have Mumm-ra kill him
>Snarf is Mumm-Ra's failed attempt at a master race

Thundercats 2011 was utter shit, and the hour long opening was the only good part.

Attached: 1339194734923.jpg (2477x1071, 434K)

Pumyra did come off as kind of butch to me, and since she was so hostile to Lion-O and unlikable overall her betrayal ended up being a relief. Still, killing her in the end seems over the top.

And I really can't imagine that any of that could be coherent or even equal a good overall story in the end. Why on earth didn't they just have the pilot writers oversee the story's direction?

Makes sense, he's been in cool shit like Batman Beyond and is a bit nerdy himself. I love Will Friedle.

>And wrote the episode that revealed the origins of the swords
While I don't mind the episode itselt there is one thing they screwed up. Mum-Ra's true form shows up without fanfare he just walks into the room. That´s not the kind of stuff you show so nonchalantly.

>Trials of Lion-O
It was funny watching Tygra get his ass fucking handed to him and seeing how his terrible leadership nearly got the team killed, until Lion-O came in and saved all their asses.

below RWBY

I get being upset because someone makes a rude comment about your work, but this was just embarrassing.

She's but a child

And then much like the rest of the show no lesson is learned and Tygra is right back to being the best the next season

Will Friedle wanted to write a script where Bengali showed up and became sort of an uncle or a mentor figure to Lion-O but the head writer shot that down because it would diminish Tygra's specialness if there were two tiger guys in their group.

Because stupid shit is stupid and shit.

>Started out with potential, went to shit quickly.

Right around the moment they fast-forwarded through the siege and the ensuing implied genocide I began noticing the decline.

Attached: Support.jpg (648x486, 82K)

That's why I've never believed the supposed "season 2" breakdown that came 5 years after the fact

That guy had years of people saying the same things over and over and over again about the show and provided what was prpbably some rough actual ideas layered with a lot of bullshit to get brownie points after the fact

The actual season 2 wouldn't have treated Lion-O any better than season 1

>Avatar is the high end of the scale
we have truly fallen, haven't we?

Animation alone puts it above RWBY, writing below AtLA

They wanted to make Lynx-O into a genocidal dick.

I think they wanted to make Bengali Tygra and Cheetara's kid.

Jesus Christ, the show runners fucking hated the new Thundercats.

Pumyra goes from pacifist healer to violent zombie traitor.

Lynx-O goes from sage old man to genocidal bastard.

And they wanted to infatilize the resident weaponsmit.

Watch the two-part pilot as a standalone. It's good shit. Ignore the existence of any further episodes.
If you REALLY want to try it out anyway, you should still skip the episode immediately following the pilot. It's one of the worst things I've ever seen in a teen-oriented cartoon, not exaggerating.

Actually, be sure to skip everything but the following: the flower people, the Tower of Omens, the swordsrabbit, the ancestors episode, the midseason finale, the tiger tribe, the trials of Lion-O, Pumyra introduction and the finale. Counting the pilot, that's 15 SALVAGABLE episodes total.

Expect wildly inconsistent characterisation of the two male leads, choppy animation and a lot of suspension of disbelief breaking. Wilykit best girl. Actually, the only acceptable one.

Attached: tc2011.jpg (600x480, 70K)

>suggesting the mid-season and season finale to anyone

You are a cruel man, user.

It's unfortunately too important to the entire series' plot to skip. Especially for Cheetara since her character development gets assassinated there..

>contrarians popped out of the woodwork to defend this trash when Roar was revealed
I don't even like the idea of Roar but for fucks sake.

Attached: 1439312487081.jpg (246x205, 8K)

>we will never have flashforward liono x wilykit
it hurts

I chalked that up to a bunch of anons bingeing the show and just going thinking it wasn't that bad over all

Whereas I and many other anons can remember being in the trenches, watching the show week to week and the collective despair and anger un threads when it became clear no one in the writer's room were even paying attention to the episode right before theirs

wilykit's speech, the flashback episode and the trials of liono are the only good parts of the show

Attached: 1526783691331.gif (477x352, 453K)

why do retards like this wanting to hate rwby so much

>Animation alone puts it above RWBY

Attached: 1485920057216.png (630x296, 343K)

>aged up
It's better this way then.

You'd think that binge watching would actually make it worse considering the immediate whiplash between episodes. They'd have had to not pay attention to the show at all.

>On a scale from RWBY
>RWBY
lol

Attached: 151065769407.png (600x450, 405K)

>Especially for Cheetara since her character development gets assassinated there.

She seemed like an interesting character in the pilot and I liked the training as a cleric angle because in the original series, she was a latent psychic and her powers were just starting to emerge. She had precognitive dreams and she could sense when something was off about someone which helped her be a better fighter. Making her a cleric would have been a good way to introduce that ability to the reboot and develop it further. When she decided that she wanted to be Tygra's mate, all character development stopped with her. She only used her cleric abilities one more time after that and she seemed to stop training altogether.

>On a scale from RWBY
>RWBY
Based

Thundercats Roar! always looked shitty. Thundercats 2011 is more disappointing because for a minute, it looked like it might actually be good.

I wanna watch Roar already, I'm all for thundercats silliness.

It would be funny if Roar actually ends up being a better-written and more faithful adaptation of the original that the 2011 reboot.

So like Teen Titans Go?

*cough*

it's not as good as avatar but it's pretty damn good.
Yea Forums likes to shit on it because apparently they expect every action show to be BTAS

jesus's mom was a hot natalie-portman-ass teenage girl, bitch. that's how nature works.

Speaking as someone who never saw RWBY I would put it worse than that because I never had any interest in RWBY while Thundercats 2011 lured me in with what seemed like a great show only to ruin everything and then ruin it even further.

Teenage, she wasn't 10 or under.

Tygra's character assassination still vexes me to this day.

wilykit is a miniature breed. think of her like an asian.
besides I'm not suggesting giving her immediate hot dickings. just hugs.

People who fuck immediately on the first date are the source of the pedo scare.
Time was you took time before actually having sex. Time enough for people to grow up. To get a really good idea of what they want.

Now you are just pulling crap out of your ass. She and Kat are 10 or under , their mom is an adult and not a damn "mini" breed. She's a child, and you're a pedo.

Pumyra's mannishness probably wasn't helped any by the fact that she was voiced by the same person who voiced Bobby Hill.

The virgin Liono vs the Chad MOTU

ok let me tell you the game had some bad animations at the beginning and what baffles me people say rwby has a complicated story and peole on here have a hate boner for it

Attached: 1544680196937.jpg (290x366, 84K)

>but it's pretty damn good.
in what way

Attached: 1509932649348.jpg (691x625, 236K)

She also voiced one of the fairies in the Tinker Bell movies.

I didn't have high hopes for BBTB, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Truth.

No.

She's a little girl, user. She's about 10. If Lion-O is 15, then they would need at least an 8 year timeskip to not make it creepy.

>tfw had the show continued, Lion-O would have actually ended up with her after a timeskip

Attached: Let it die sweating.gif (400x300, 2.93M)

Great first ep that immediately nosedives into full on RWBY shit tier

Can Someone explain why RWBY is shit other than that it's being made by Rooster Teeth?

>where does this fall?
The writers weren't really fans of the original, or for sure they weren't fans of the main character and storytelling. Same as Voltron LD. The show was good, per se (far superior to the overrated ATLA),just to different from the original version. IMO it would be a success if was an original series and not a remake.

There's still porn for it being made, so it must be good.

Yes, exactly.

Voltron would have been a stronger show if they didn't have so many issues during production.

youtu.be/iiFiVFxR_Q8
youtu.be/KfUvSaU8_hQ

The guy who wrote the pilot episode also wrote several episodes of BBTB (including the Music Meister one), The Batman vs. Dracula, DC's The Spectre short, Assault on Arkham and co-wrote the animated Wonder Woman movie. They couldn't afford him for the whole series, so they let cheaper writers work on the rest of the episodes and it really shows.

The Adam fight scene in Rwby is good and youver unable to refute it.
Because rwby isn't an objective 1/10 you'll need a new metric for worst show.
unless this was a stealth rwby thread in which case good job

Teen Titans GO! Isn't more accurate to the comic than 2993 Teen Titans. The only somewhat accurate adaptation of Teen Titans is Young Justice, and they managed to do it while being NOT accurate at all.

>Do you have to like the original to care for this one?

If you watched and liked the original, you will probably hate how in the remake the main characters are a bunch of assholes who are united solely in their common need to mock and belittle Lion-O.

You'd think that even if they had to settle for cheaper writers, they'd at least keep a tight leash on them and require some semblance of internal consistency. After all when you know you're taking a downgrade in writers, that's exactly when you can't give them as much freedom to do whatever they want.

why do so many people here hate RWBY?
the world building is solid
same with character designs
the story isn't bad
some of its flaws are:
many characters, but except oscar and jaune no one has really a decent character arc

Honestly RWBY is my guilty pleasure. It may not be a masterpiece but its still fun to watch.

The pilot episodes were closer to A:tLA.
Then most of the rest of the series is RWBY

RvB is better

the pilot was good. then they board a ship and theres a moby dick themed episode or something, the usual cheap saturday cartoon type plot. i couldnt keep going after that.
