What do we think of the Ice Age Franchise?

I grew up loving the series. Re-watched the first recently and it holds up really well. Tried to go into the second one and turned it off after about five minutes in.

Unironically, Ice Age 3 is one of my favourite movies and I think it's the best one out of all the movies.

They're funny and well animated. The main trio are extremely likable too.

I remember seeing and enjoying the first movie, but can’t remember if I seen the rest. This inspired me to watch them again.

The first one was pretty neat, but all the ones after it might as well be direct to DVD.
I think the Peanuts Movie shows that there's a lot of talent at Blue Sky that's being wasted on these more generic movies still chasing the Shrek/Dreamworks dollar.

Everything made beyond the third movie is irrelevant imo.
Manny started another family, Diego became fully integrated into the "pack" and Sid became better comedic relief while becoming content with himself (if nothing else).
I MIGHT enjoy more stuff about Buck, but he'd fit better into a more episodic series. Hell, I think the stuff in the fourth movie would've been better compressed into the third one for the sake of character development.

Kind of bothered me that Scrat went from a small gag character to starting off the plot of the fourth film by breaking Pangaea.

In the original concept the Scratazons were giantesses. But in the final cut they were amazonian size (they're still tiny compared to humans).

I saw like one or two in the theaters. I thought they were okay. All I remember from the first one is they were trying to get some little girl back to her tribe. And the second one I can remember anything for the life of me. Didn't they end up a making a girlfriend for every character in the later movies?

Like others have said, the first one is great. I don’t particularly think the visuals are appealing but it’s probably part of the point. I remember my family trying to see this and the theater was so crowded people were sitting in the isle. We had to come back later that day.
If it came out today it certainly wouldn’t be as big as it was. CGI being new had a lot to do with the first ones success.

I had the first on VHS and watched it often, then in elementary school we saw it, and then they showed it in middle school again. It's a good movie and I liked it/still do. I remember hyping for the 2nd movie and finding the teaser online, watching the trailers, even getting some figurine stuff and a poster. I believe I saw it in theaters. I saw 3 in theaters too. 4 was the last one I saw and I went twice not because I loved it but because my grandma wanted to watch it with me after I already saw it with a friend.

I was interested in that rumored 4th film where they are thawed in present day but that was either a hoax or rewritten. 4 was ok but clearly getting into the just for kids territory. I watched 5 online.

None of the sequels have the same charm as the first movie. 2 had some other vibe coming off it that I can't explain.

This fucking song, I heard it so much because of watching Ice Age a lot. I think it was The Meltdown that I tried downloading on Limewire possibly before it released, but it had a Why Can't We Be Friends mp3 and I don't think it was ever used for IA2 marketing or in-film.

She was so annoying I almost forgot. At least the writers weren't total ass about her and had her admit she overreacted too. They could've played up Manny mentioning saving their species far longer and bigger than they did and I'm glad they didn't.

What the hell. Anyways, are 4 and 5 worth watching on a day I have absolutely nothing else to do? I've always felt kind of bad for not watching the latest movies of the ice age, shrek and madagascar franchises. Feels like I started something and I never finished it.

You can try to see how much you can sit through. 4 has teenager peaches problems and its kinda grating, then muh brodad brohoof mic drop shit in 5.

Final showdown is hella epic. 5 was just funny and filled the void that 3 left when Buck returned back down there in the ending. Also they gave Sid and Diego girlfriends and even Peaches got her bf in the 5th

4 is basically BadEnding!universe and its apparently a bit more grim than the others because of the stakes. I consider Puss' spinoff movie as a heist movie and if u do that too you'll find it appealing. Watch them before the reboot is made

I remember 4 being decently funny, at points except for the annoying minion wannabes rodent things. 5 is pretty bad, the animators clearly had a lot of fun with it, but I can't say the same for the writers. Shrek 4 is straight trash, skip it. I never got how people think 3 is worse than 4. Both Madagascar sequels are genuinely good, I'd recommend.

I liked 1-4, especially the original trio.
My favorite character is Manfred/Manny, he's the reason I like mammoths very much until this day.
A great franchise in my opinion, was an important part of my childhood.

Ice Age stopped being part of my childhood by like movie 3.

Wasn't 4 where Fionna was being a bitch but also we had that long stream of badass garbage in the alternate universe? Insufferable.
