No, show don't HAVE to exist. Their function is not to mold society. Creator don't have any kind of responsibility to society. Creators should be free to create anything they want without people hoisting some kind of chore on them. If you want children to be raised better go after parents or schools, not television shows.

So? For examble Jim Henson believed tv was a powerful tool to teach not only children, but society as a whole. And in some extent he proved it, many of us learned how to count with Sesame Street. What I mean is that I know, parents should be more responsible of what their children watch, but the thing is that you can't be watching for them 24/7. Tv is not a replacement for that, but it can help children and even adults to acquire many social patterns, shape their opinions and personality.

Yes, Jim Henson believed that and decided to make shows that way. It was his choice. By contrast, you can't go to the Seinfeld cast and tell them to stop making the show they want, make a show like Jim Henson is doing because the children need to be taught empathy. That's not a fair responsibility to put on people who have the right to make what they want.

I understand what you say and in some aspects I think you're right, I wouldn't change Seinfeld or It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia a bit, I'm not saying every show should teach a lesson in any way (aside from that, Sunny sometimes does give good morals, but that's not really on topic here). But creators like Rebecca Sugar, Ian Jones Quartey or Noelle Stevenson are doing the same thing, they don't have to make an inclusive, meaningful or emotional show in any way, but they just do because they want to. This doesn't mean they can't get critized, but if we're getting "preachy" shows it's just because they want to do that, and they try to make it in a more subtle way than those 80's PSA cartoons. That's the best way to normalize those things in my opinion
