I don’t like Ez, but I gotta admit it was pretty badass of him to stand up and say “My dad’s dead? Well, shit, I guess I’ve gotta turn right around from the super awesome adventure I’ve been having with my cool magical dragon buddy, and trudge all the way home to take on
my daunting responsibility of being the new king.” I mean, very few children characters I can think of would step up and do that. Also I liked when he told Rayla to fuck off for shying away from using the word “dead” because it was insulting and stupid to avoid acknowledging it fully and properly.

Most things about him as a character are pretty boring but he’s had a few good moments.

There’s concept art of Aaravos where he has five fingers. One likely explanation is that it’s simply from early enough in production from before they fully hammered out the detail that elves have four fingers. But there’s also a theory that it indicates they plan to reveal that Aaravos is part human or something.

I remember in an early interview, the writers were asked if Ezran's animal speech powers were primal magic, and they said something like "his ability is rooted in deep empathy". That shit's so gonna turn out to be Earth magic, but they didn't want to give away the twist before Callum got his powers.

Could be they kept some of the elements from the concept for a design of a younger Aaravos, since a lot of that concept shows up in the opener with this one guy. Or it could be a different star elf.

I literally couldn't get through the first few episodes because of this. The 3D-trying-to-pass-as-2d was extremely distracting with its super stiff movements (and to a lesser extent the weird mismatched framerates, though obviously that can be done well... but in dragon prince it wasn't)

It has that same weird ass animation as RWBY, and that just kills my interest. At best it looks wonky, and at worse it looks like something ratboy genius would find uncomfortable. And worse, on average it just looks like it's in the uncanny valley.

I think it works slightly better in RWBY because its using bland generic anime designs, but dragon quest 3D here has a lot more complex designs, and it really doesn't work.

You get used to it. What's really bad is the plot, which feels so very rushed. 2 seasons in and it feels like 2/3rds of a season.

My fear is that they'll just give him some sympathetic motives but otherwise leave him some generic, mysterious, uber-powerful great threat that acts as a foil to Viren's fallibility.

It's not the worst trope but it's kind of lazy. I like fanon stuff of him being genuinly affected from being locked up, or the idea of him actually having some kind of messed up ally-ship with Viren.
He can still be a great threat but having some humanizing traits would make him so much more interesting.
Especially if he's still the final boss in 5 seasons time.

Yeah I just watched season 2 and it's the same exact format.

Waste a bunch of time on filler to the point the writer himself admits through his characters' words than The Dragon Prince is about feelsy cutesy immature character development rather than adventures.
I mean the obsessive message with "Children have to grow up." is not what I'd expect out of a storyteller.
Whoever's in charge of this story needs to rev up his skills because this is far below TLA's in terms of events.

3 fucking episodes to finally get a move on. 1 episode spent entirely on a boat. 2 more episodes spent entirely on befriending a dragon and Callum going through his "I"m Aang now" phase.
and finally just like the first season, the very last episode had a shit ton of events going on which felt like proper pacing. When I looked at the timer and saw just 10 minutes, I thought 40 had passed.

I mean I was expecting the world of the elves in season 2.

Good season for those who appreciate family, emotion, friendship, sweetness, but this writer has to either learn to diversify by himself or get MORE WRITERS.

When will 3D finally learn to draw proper 2D expressions?
Whenever there was rain or the characters were far away and it seemed to look like 2D, it looked infinitely more charming and relatable. It didn't look like a bunch of pre-defined textures animated stiffly on a 3D model. Plus the outlines are very wonky looking. It just looks like PS2 era graphics.

When everything was dark and there were only the flames burning... he actually looked good. The graphics, the art style, IT ACTUALLY LOOKED SUPER APPEALING.

I just finished season 2. If you're looking for it, you'll still see some of the jankiness, but there's noticeable effort to minimize it especially in the action scenes

It's pretty solid if a bit slow and the husbandos are good. The animation in the first season is ass but improves a lot in the second.
