Golds don't really fit in the caste system, do they? They're like normal humans, not affected by the Dammakhert at all.

Golds are ethnically Tainish and for unexplained reasons are immune to the effects of the Dammakhert. Since the Caste system is a product of the Dammakhert, they aren't technically a part of it. They're treated as the sixth caste but really they're an exception to it. What's very interesting is if Sharteshanians or Crescians were to come into Alderode and conceive children, those children would be one of the five Castes, but never a Gold.
