I believe it was a tie in for some failed chinese MMO. They were trying to save humanity from this one guy who ruled over animals and they had to convince the kings of each animal race to not want to kill humanity and something something it was garbage. I watched it for literally the same reason that everyone else did.

I remember watching it in South Africa, I was always eager to see every single hero revealed eventually

I've enjoyed Hero 108, It was dumb fun to watch, but it was still immensely better than Teen Titans GO and less brain-melting surely. I've liked character progression some Heroes had like Bunny that as the show was going on was learning to speak Human-ish better and better, and the 'token badass' bamboo-shooter, learning progressively to draw better and better. At least the show had a chance to be ended and not cut-down before reaching conclusion.

You seem like you're pretty familiar with this show. Would it be worth a re-watch? I've got a few busywork projects coming up and I could really use something in the background.

Season 1 was incredibly formulaic and the lack of using the other characters other than first squad was a major issue.
S2 fixes it a little and is way better than 1.
Also, the designs are really fucking cool

You shouldn't have a bad time with it, main cast have some weird-ass powers as well as animals, show is structured around the concept of 'villain of the week' but in the end they befriend said animal 'king' at the end of the episode, and some of them appear later on, aiding main team members of which try to overcome character struggle, or to obtain new weird-ass power , humour is not garbage-tier but it's clear it's show made for kids. Villan is a typical mustache-twirling douche but brings some comedic relief. Show is mostly about human/animal relationships and subliminal eco messages, but it's not in your face.
