What's annoying is that Hex was the one who ended up as an actual good guy in Omniverse. Previously he'd always been depicted as much more evil than Charmcaster.

Wasn't his last appearance prior to Omniverse just him not giving a shit? He caught Gwen stealing a magic book, and when she said it was to help Charmcaster he just let her go. Then it turned out Charmcaster was sacrificing thousands to an Old God.

I wish they'd even bother to explain why he decided to become a teacher. They didn't get into it at all. Not even one line of throwaway dialogue.
He only existed in episodes with either Ghostfreak or Vilgax. They always get the most out of a voice actor in an episode, especially Steve Blum, so you can tell which aliens Ben's going to use on Omniverse based on which VAs have already appeared.

This would honestly be good character development for both of them if most of it didn't happen off-screen.

It seemed in Ultimate Alien that Hex hadn't reformed, he'd just gotten sick of getting BTFO by kids in his evil schemes and retired. Him turning into a straight-up good guy in Omniverse and being Gwen's cool teacher was completely unexplained.

Might've been something that actually got an explanation if that Lucky Girl spinoff had actually happened.

I think it works together. At first he made Charmcaster an apprentice. Offering her things family redemption, power, and ect.

(Headcanon, then he met Lucky girl realized Charmcaster would never measure up to Gwen)

Either way he just walked away from teaching Charmcaster. Fueling abandonment issues. Which probably lead to her mind breaking.
